Editing off a DVD

Quick question for everyone.
We have in our contract that we delete all clips from our past weddings a year from the date we send them their DVDs. So, true to our word we did so roughly 13 months afterward (I gave our last couple an extra month). They just reached out to us and said that they finally watched their wedding video on their anniversary (10/13) but forgot to message us until about 30 minutes ago in regards to the audio on their video.
All audio is crisp and clear, they just decided they no longer want music to be playing in the background of their toasts/vows as originally was requested.
Now if I still had the clips, I would love to edit this. All I have is an extra DVD I always burn in case they wanted another, and I have the saved movie file of their film.
Is there ANY way to edit this full video (no longer broken down into clips) to completely remove the music during the vows/rings and toasts and keep the integrity of the speaking parts? Or is it a lost cause?
Fingers are crossed as I told the couple I'd reach out to you pro audio folks and see what we can find out.
Thank you again!
J

I know that this is going to sound harsh, and that you're trying to do your best for them. But, previous replies notwithstanding, I fear that it's likely to come down to this anyway... Caveat Emptor.
I do have a (quite genuine) question though. Why do you have this in your contract?

  • Editing from VIDEO_TS dvd content...

I need to edit the content of several old DVD's.  I have successfully transferred the content from all the DVD's to my hard drive.  I am able to edit all of the content in Premiere normally except for the content of one particular DVD.   If I drag the VIDEO_TS folder from this DVD into VLC it plays perfectly.  It also, of course, plays perfectly directly off the dvd.  If I drag the VIDEO_TS folder into Premiere it imports properly but the content is a mess.  For example, the video clips are all truncated, the audio does not align etc.
Notes:  the problem DVD is the only one that transferred to my hard drive and did not create an AUDIO_TS folder.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks,

  • Ripping off a DVD into iMovie

My boss gave me a DVD of some older footage he wants me to put into some advertisement trailers for him.  I am using iMovie to do all the organizing and editing and want to know how I can get the video into iMovie.  I assume I have to rip it off the DVD, but don't know how to do it or what programs to use.  Thanks for any and all help,
    Eric

This tip will show you how to import your home movie on DVD into iMovie 11 for editing. It will not work on commercial, copy-protected DVDs. (Ripping commercial DVDs is against the Terms of Use of the Apple Discussions).
DVDs are encoded by iDVD into MPEG2, which iMovie cannot edit. So you need to convert the DVD into a codec that iMovie can edit. For highest quality, I recommend that you convert the DVD to Apple Intermediate Codec. There is a free tool called MPEG Streamclip that will do this. You will also need to install the Apple QuickTIme MPEG2 Playback Component.
    Here are the details.
    1) Download and install the Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component ($20) - available online from Apple.
    2) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
    3) Start MPEG Streamclip
    4) Insert your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player or Front Row starts automatically, quit those.
    5) Open a Finder window. Navigate to the DVD.
    6) Drag the Video_TS folder from your DVD and drop it into MPEG Streamclip.
    7) If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
    8) Use FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (or h.264 if you prefer)
    9) Optional steps.
9a) Optional: You can deinterlace your footage in this step, if you like. If you don't know which is best, try a short clip both ways. I usually do not deinterlace.
9b) Optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
9c) Optional: If you don't want to make one huge clip out of your DVD, you can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then do steps 8 through 10 and repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
    10) Save the resulting file in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
    11) Open iMovie.
    12) In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/Movies... and choose the file you saved in steps 8, 9, 10.
    13) iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.

  • Import DVDs, Edit, Burn New DVD

I have a friend that basically wants to import DVDs he's recorded into his Mac, edit and title them, then burn new DVDs.
He really wants to be able to get the .VOB files off his DVDs, edit the footage, then make a new DVD.
Is Final Cut Express designed for this, or can it be done in iMovie '09?

Getting the files from the DVD into FCE is the tricky bit.
    Try this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11617624&#11617624
Once edited export from FCE as a QuickTime Movie export to iDVD, then burn the finshed result.

  • Help! Trying to get a Video File off a DVD so I can use it in Final Cut Pro

Okay. I'm trying to cut together a project and I need the video and audio off a short DVD. The DVD is under 5 minutes in length and is not copy right protected. For the life of me I cannot understand how to convert the files off the DVD to something I can work with. When I open the DVD I have 2 files: 1) AUDIO_TS and 2) VIDEO_TS. I would like to convert these to something FCP can understand (AVI, MPEG...anything). I have searched and searched the message boards and have found no useful information. I have a feeling it's something to do with Disk Utility but have found no clear instructions. Half the sites want you to buy their software. Surely there is some way to do this without buying additional software. Any help would be greatly apppreciated.

There are four ways that I know of:
    1) Play the DVD and have the player's analog outputs connected to your DV VCR or camcorder, which then acts as a convertor to bring it into FCP
    2) MPEG StreamClip - FREE, rips the video and audio from the VIDEO_TS folder
    3) DVDxDV - $20 or so, does the same thing as MPEG-Streamclip only a little easier, IMO
    4) Cinematize - $70, same thing, more options

  • After upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer or even off my iTunes library

after upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer, love film or even directly off my iTunes library. in each case, all i get is a black screen and no error message.

Hi, i had the same problem and tried this,
Somehow iTunes is tied to Safari. Try this:
Someone mentioned to clear all website data and history in safari, stupid but it was either this or the below that fixed it
    or this,
    Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services
Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.
Please let me know if it works.

First, iOS 5.0.1 does not run on a MacBook Pro.  You should correct that on your profile.

  • How to get FCP edited footage on DVD?

I need some help, how do I get a FPC edited file on DVD? I assume I need to export the file but what then? OK I have recently bought my Mac Pro and used to use Coral Pro X2 (which had burn dvd).
    Any suggestions?

simplest way export selfcontained quicktime with sequence settings. Bring this file into DVDSP. DVDSP may be a little intimidating, but it shouldn't take you long to figure it out.

  • Editing code in DVD

I have a DVD/CD-R Master Image I need to edit. This DVD is of a movie I made, and the post-house naturally made it read-only. I need to change the title of the DVD's which the Master Image burns. Is there someway I can make a change at the code level of my DVD/CD-R Master Image, that is, to the .BUP or .IFO file? Or in some other way make a change in the title of the CD which is going to be burned?
I have to change one letter, and the post-house would charge over $2000 to remaster the DVD from our files. That's a lot of money for one letter, so I hope that there is a workaround. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this problem.

If you need to change only the name, you can use Burn
    <http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html>
Select the "Video" tab and set the format to "DVD-Video". Enter the name, then drag the VIDEO_TS folder from you disk image file to Burn's window. Use "Save Image" from Burn's "File" menu to make a new disk image file.
For more complicated changes, try myDVDEdit

  • Why can't I browse jam packs right off the DVD?

I'm trying to use my jam pack DVD's without taking up space on my hard drive. There must be a way to browse jam packs straight off the DVD without installing them. How can I do this?

You'll probably need to show invisible files in the Finder. Try this, for instance:

  • Best Quality import when editing with a DVD master?

I have been on a project, that is nearing online, that has a large amount of footage that I have had to import off of DVD. I have been using Streamclip's "Apple Motion Jpeg A" setting at 100% when I have converted files to QT. Anybody know the best way to get this material off DVD and into QT at the best quality? The footage is so bad, that it may not make a difference, but I thought I would try. Anybody use any treatment tricks when working with old, home movie type footage, to "spruce it up" and help it not stand out so much?
    Thanks for your input.

The question would be; is the footage bad only because it is from heavily compressed DVD-Video? Or is it bad because it's old home movie footage? Or a combination of the two.
Since it is old home video footage, I'd suspect a fairly low quality camcorder was used. If that's the case, I'd convert the footage to the Apple DV/DVCPro codec using MPEG Streamclip. Or simply capture the footage through a DV device while playing the disc in a DVD player.
Once it's on your system, try using the 3-Way Color Corrector filter to enhance the contrast and control the chroma levels.

  • Taking audio off a DVD

Other than playing the DVD on the Computer, connecting an audio cable from the headset jack out to a vtr or similar device, recording the dvd audio to tape and then re-digitizing that audio back in, is there an easy way to get audio off a DVD into Final Cut Pro 4.5?

You know, I'd answer this question (which is asked about 15 billion times a week) if it was someone who just registered today and this was their first post ... but you've been here for 2 1/2 years and post here regularly....
No time like the present to finally learn the 'little used search function' !
Try it, set an example for the noobies!

  • What software works to capture pics off a dvd?

What software or app works best to capture pics off a dvd?

You need to convert the VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
No guarantees any of the above will work using Panther.
