Editing old msWord (for windows) files on iPad?

I just bought an iPad2. My last computer was a Windows pc. I have lots of old MSWord files I'd like to open and edit on my iPad. How can I do that? What is the best app for writing and editing text files?

If they are in a .DOC format, then you should be able to read them on your iPad 2, but you will need an App from the App Store.
Such apps are iWork Pages, Office to Go & QuickOffice.

'Edit in Place' for XLSM-files (Excel Macro-Enabled)

Hi,
is it possible to activate 'Edit in Place' for xlsm-files (Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook file)?
For xls(x)-files there is the link 'Edit This File', but not for files of type 'xlsm' allthough they could be dealt the same way with Excel.
I know I can edit this files using the 'Add-in for MS Office' and via the 'Vibe Desktop', but it would be nice to deal them like other Excel-files.

Looking for Windows files on a Mac

On my Macbook Pro OS X 10.9.4 Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR 3 when starting a existing project I get a message about a file the program is not able to load.
So it asks me to point the location. The question is as follows: Where is the file 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiers Pro 1.5\Presets\Textures\Business Title_7.tga'?
I'm using a Mac and when I search for the file it's not on my computer.
It's looking for a file in a curtain folder.
Could you give an advise what to do?

I’m using Adobe Premiere Elements 12
Version 12.1 (20140225.12.1.620828)
I get the message when opening an already made project in which I added a Title.
In the ones without a title I don’t get the message.
So it is something connected to the use of titles.
I used RedBulbs as a title.
When I click ‚Skip’ or Offline my project opens correctly and I don’t miss any media. Even the title part is OK.
I hope this describes the problem enough and hopefully you can give me some advise.

when you open a new project or do you get this message only when you go to open an existing project?
If only for existing projects, then please tell us if this existing project was created with title templates and/or Instant Movie themes.
If so please detail.
If you click "Skip" to the "Where is the file....?" message, does your project open without problem? And if so, do you see any missing media
displays in the workspace? And if so where?

Everything was doing well back then. And when W8 came, then the problem started. A quick fix from here and there would do the job but here comes W10 another major adjustment and who knows what's next. For whatever it is,... skype in toto is a helping hand ...

Adobe Photodeluxe Business Edition 1.0 for Windows 7?

I have an obviously old version of Adobe Photodeluxe Business Edition 1.0 that's been running on an old computer for years (just used for that purpose). I've upgraded computers and it's apparently incompatible with Windows 7. Is there an update/fix out there to make it run on Win7? Thanks.

Use MacMini server for windows apps and save for windows files ?

My question : Office equiped mixed computers , aslo Windows and Mac,
Could we use MacMini server for both machines, working by windows apps and / or to save and work with windows files on MacMini server and with Mac as well?
We woud use it for normal office work and get it by internet from other places as well
windows apps: merchandising, invoice, word, excel, pictures editing, Outlook Express + the Mac apps

In general what you can do is: in OS X, use Windows in virtualization (aka emulation), as a "virtual machine" with VMWare Fusion, Parallels, or Oracle VM Virtual box.
That way you have both operating system open side by side without having to reboot into one or the other operating system.
Not sure whether you need a Mac Mini Server per se to do that, I do that with my MacBook Pro for instance. But the server would help since it has a quad-core CPU (more cores that you can dedicate to the virtual macine), and you can put the virtual machine on the second harddrive for better disk access performance. Was there some particular reason you were thinking of the Mini Server -- do you want to use server side Windows apps?
Again I have that setup on my MacBook Pro using VMWare Fusion with an XP virtual machine. In the Windows, I only use Office 2003 and some company apps that are Windows only. With Fusion (and I'm sure the other apps can do it as well) you can set a "shared" folder so both Windows and Lion will see the contents of it for reading and writing. I believe with Fusion you can also do your entire Home directory, but I prefer to limit it to a single shared "work" folder.

Can I partition a hard drive so that one partition is for windows files and the other is for time machine backups?

I have a 1TB WD passport that currently contains windows files e.g photos, documents, etc. Can I partition it so that one partition contains these files and the other partition is used for time machine backups? Also, how do I change the partition system on the hard drive so that it uses the GUID partition system?

Yes, you can, though you need to format and partition the drive from the scratch.
1) back up your PC data on other drive.
2) partitioning your drive into 2 partitions with Disk Utility.
3) format one partition by Mac OS extended (journaling) for Time Machine, the other by exFAT for PC data.
4) restore PC data on exFAT partitioned drive.

How to publish a Windows 8.1 store app to cover the old version for Windows 8 app

The scenario of the Windows 8/8.1 app is that- (VS=Visual Studio)
-If the app is build in VS2012 in Windows 8 then it will available for both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users
-If the app is build in VS2013 in Windows 8.1 then it will available only for Windows 8.1 users only.
You can use the Visual Studio 2013 Express (free available) in Windows 8.1 and retarget the old Windows 8 app to Windows 8.1 by following this link

Basically if you want to develop/give updates simultaneously to users then use VS2012 and VS2013 on Windows 8.1 and work on both to have universal apps.

How do I convert Quicken for Windows files to Quicken Essentials?

I have a large Quicken for Windows investment account on a virtual PC at my old office that I need to transfer to Quicken for Mac at my home. I only want to transfer the investment information and do not use Quicken for banking. I have installed Quicken Essentials on my Mac. I have the info that needs to be transferred on a disk. Please advise any hints/suggestions to make sure all the data is transferred. Thanks.

FIrewall for Windows File Share for windows 2008

Hi All,
Recently we upgraded one of our application file server from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008. We use this server for file sharing. We used to read files and write files to this server. Post upgrade one week every thing went fine all of a sudden we started seeing
issues like the application servers stopped communicated to this server.
We worked with our firewall team and enabled port 445 post this the application servers started communicating to the file server. Our Application servers are on Windows 2003 server.
Can someone please help me understand what is the port that needs to be enabled for accessing the file shares. My firewall team confirmed there were no firewalls rules between the Application server and File server.

Hp Envy Dv7t Quad Edition NOT tested for Windows 10

I have been waiting for 5 days for the windows 10 update, my windows app says notify me when ready, i check tge update history and it has over 10+ failed attempts to install this new operating system.I havnt gotten a notification even tho it has been trying to download but failing. I tried the command prompt trick to force it and i waited 4 hours until it all downloaded. Then it was preparing to install and it failed. I've also checked if it is even compatible as i bought it january 2013 but it had windows 8 at the time. It tells me on the hp site that it hasnt been tested for Windows 10 and that is my theory on why my update has failed constantly. Even the update trouble shooters show the problem and cant fix it. I dont know what to do at this point i know im not going to maually do it using the creation tool. I am hoping i can get answers or get hp to verify my computer so i can finaly upgrade to windows 10 since it has tried to download and now i am in deep teritory of fear ill mess up my computer. If anyone can help get my model verified or give me a logical answer, i will be gratful.

Hi all. First off, I'm on a HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k015dx Sleekbook, Windows 10. I've had it for two years now. A while back, it fell off of my bed in college but I didn't have any trouble with it until recently.
It took me a while to discover the issue, I thought it was the touch pad because after updating to Windows 10, my buttons on the touch pad will not work. But sometimes when I would adjust my screen, it causes the cursor to move on its own, a bunch of these clear dots show up all down the middle of the screen, and it just clicks and moves things on its own. It's very annoying. The only temporary fix I have found is to use a little pressure onto the touch screen with my hands. It seems to send it back to normal until it acts up again. I'm just wondering, could me dropping it all those months ago be the cause? Should I take it to the shop? It's my school computer so it would have to be either a quick fix over a weekend or something because I need it for school. I've saw others have this same problem and it recommended to download some update, but where I'm windows 10 I can't find it. I just got to thinking that maybe it's where I dropped it a while back. The issue is very annoying and if there's a way to either disable the touch screen or something for Windows 10 to download to maybe try and fix it, that'd be great. It started this over the summer and I'm about to start classes again so I'd hate for this to be an ongoing issue while doing papers and the like.

Office for Windows files won't open on mac

Why won't Word documents and Excel files created on a Windows machine open on my new MacBook Air? I never had this problem on my old MacBook Air. I'm running Mavericks and all software up to date.

I am running Office 365 and yes it all works fine other than this specific problem. I have a machine that was used by another employee for 6 months. It was wiped clean and set back to factory conditions according to the IT group and then set up for me. I transferred all my files from my old Mac Air to this one through an external hard drive. Those open fine. All files have extenders based on the vintage; doc and docx, xls and xlsx. Denise has a company Dell and a personal iMAC. Denise can open the files on either machine at home. She copied all files to a flash drive (from the Dell) and I loaded them onto my Mac. I was able to open one of the docx files in text edit and then close (not save) it. It will now open in Word. But this didn't work on any of the others.
