Editing old projector slides

Is there a Photoshop product that I could use to scan slides used in a projector and have them be viewable online? These slides are 30-40 years old? Can this be done, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Are they 35mm slides?
If so, you don't really need any software [Adobe's or anyone's], you need a scanner, which will have software with it. Ideally, you should get a slide scanner, but many flatbeds come with an adapter.

  • How to mimic a two-projector slide-show presentation?

This may not be the best place to post this question. Please let me know if there is an alternative forum.
I want to present a few hundred 1920 x 1080 visual "segments" (S1, S2 ...) that cross-fade into each other at the press of a button. No audio is involved except the presenter's voice. A presentation might run like this:
S1 - Still. (Press button to dissolve to next segment)
S2 - Still with preset zoom-in. (Press button to dissolve to next segment, even if zoom not finished)
S3 - Still with pan. (Press button to dissolve to next segment, even if pan not finished)
    S4 - Short video. (Press button…)
    S5 - Still. (Press button…)
The collection of segments would be generated by Premiere (or other program). However, I would prefer NOT to use a computer for the presentation, but rather, a BluRay player connected to a digital projector via a HDMI cable. The data does not have to be in BluRay format. It may, for example, be any type of file readable by the player, and stored on a CD, DVD, USB stick, or SDHX card. The idea is to insert the media with the relevant file on it (or files), press PLAY, and use one of the remote control buttons to move forward to the next segment.
In case you haven't got my drift: it's similar to an old fashioned two-projector slide-show presentation, but fully digital and some of the images move.
Very simple concept, but how can I achieve the desired result? Almost all image-editing programs could assemble the segments (even iPhoto, for example), but how do I achieve the smooth cross-fading and the move-to-next-segment functions? If I was writing a flowchart for what I want, it would be:
    1. Complete the segment currently showing, then freeze image and wait for press of NEXT SEGMENT button.
    2. If NEXT SEGMENT button is pressed before the end of segment, cross-fade to next segment.
    3. Loop to 1.
    Any suggestions most appreciated.

I would look into ProShow Producer. It is designed to do much of what you want.
Encore has a limited SlideShow feature, that does allow for manual advance, but the other aspects, like the Zoom will probably not be what you want. You might give it a try, just to test. One limitation is that one can only have 99 slides per SlideShow, but then can have 99 SlideShows, IIRC.
    Good luck,

  • Convert old photo slides to .jpegs using an iMac?

I am not sure if posting this request in iPhoto is thebest place, but here goes:
I havecome across "slide converter" hardware for use with PC's. I am wondering if anyone knows of a MAC-compatible product that scans and creates digital files from old picture-slides ???
    Thanks !

    drobi:
I suggest you get a scanner like Beverly mentioned to scan your slides. The stand alone units like you mentioned are limited and when you're finished you have a nice paperweight.
I have a Canon 8600F scanner that will scan 4 35mm slides at a time and save them into separate files. It also scans film strips and other transparency sizes. It will also scan multiple photos and automatically save each photo to its own file. Are real time saver.
If you scan any B/W slides or photos be sure to scan as color since iPhoto doesn't support Grayscale files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Editing the recorded slide

I am just new to Adobe Captivate - before I used another program.
Now I am wondering if there is no way to edit the recorded slide.
    1. When I use the timeline I can find no way to mark a part of the slide at cut it away from the timeline.
    2. I am wondering that when I pause the timeline - the red line stops on the right place, but the the video is showing the first image again.
When I record my slide  there are some popup windows I have to move to the right place for making the slide look good. The time I use to move the popup window I want to cut out.
In the software I used before it was possible.

    Hi there
From what you posted it would seem you recorded your movie using Full Motion (FMV) recording mode. Ouch!
When you record using FMV, it is very similar to the old 8MM movies from years ago. If you filmed a room full of relatives and there was an ugly chair in the room, you would not be able to edit the movie so it mostly remained the same but the chair was gone. This sounds like what you are wanting to do.
With a FMV all Captivate will allow you to do is to split the recording or append (splice) other recording bits. If you are wondering where this capability is, it's in a different editor that's not all that simple to find. Basically you need to locate the clip in the Library. This is pretty easy to do. Just right-click the clip in the Captivate editor and choose Find in Library. This should highlight the clip. Now in the Library, right-click the clip and choose Edit. This should open the FMR Editor.
You would be well advised to ignore that FMV exists with Captivate. Seldom will you achieve a desirable result. Captivate works best in the Slide By Slide recording mode. We hope to see FMV "get there" and be on par with TechSmith's Camtasia Studio at some future point. Unfortunately, that point is likely to be a couple or three versions away.
If I have something requiring FMV, I use Camtasia and output that as a SWF that I insert into Captivate. You can get some really good stuff that way.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Connecting to an old projector

I'm trying to connect my new MacBook (13" aluminum, late 2008) to an old projector (InFocus LP755) from 1999. The projector doesn't have USB or FireWire connectors. It has:
    - 15-pin VESA
    - composite video
    - S-video
    - a 36-pin connector
Apple says that my MacBook won't connect to composite video or S-video. Apple says I can buy two adapters for my MacBook:
    - mini-DVI to VGA adapter
    - mini-DVI to DVI adapter
The VESA connector looks exactly like a VGA connector. Can I connect Apple's VGA adapter to the projector's VESA input?

Everything is working now. The last problem was that the projector has a "Computer 1" and "Computer 2" toggle, and I assumed that with only one computer connected it was "Computer 1". I toggled to "Computer 2" and the message changed from "No signal detected" to "Perfecting image." Same blue screen, but I waited a bit and then the projector displayed the computer screen.
To summarize the problems, and solutions:
    - VESA (the projector's input) is the same as VGA (the MacBook's output).
    - The aluminum MacBooks (late 2008) don't have adapters for composite video or S-video and apparently never will.
    - The MacBook has a mini-DisplayPort, not a mini-DVI. Don't buy a mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter.
    - Apple sells a mini-DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter for $29, or you can get one on eBay for $25. Some of Apple's mini-DisplayPort-to-VGA adapters needed a firmware update (download from Apple) to prevent image quality problems. (The adapter I bought didn't need the firmware update, so presumably new adapters don't have this problem.)
    - The projector toggles between "Video" input, "Computer 1" and "Computer 2". Don't assume that if you have only one computer it's "Computer 1". Toggle to "Computer 2" then wait a bit to see if your screen appears on the projector.
    - Best advice of all: don't buy a 10-year-old projector. Look for a projector with USB or Firewire or something with fewer headaches!

  • I have a keynote presentation that includes a significant amount of video.  When I edit the keynote slides (not the video slides) how can I save the changes without re-saving the videos (because that takes a VERY long time)?

I have a keynote presentation that includes a significant amount of video.  When I edit the keynote slides (not the video slides) how can I save the changes without re-saving the videos (because that takes a VERY long time)?  I edit the presentation depending on the audience to which I am presenting.

If you add a new  slide with just a text box (therefore a very small amount of data),  to an existing presentation then save,  Keynote will only save the new content to the file,  it wont save  pre-existing content as its already included in the file.
The time  taken to "save" will be very much shorter than a "save as" when all of the existing content is saved again.

Sounds like you may have been in extended display mode. If so, all you had to do was drag a window to the projector display. Or, if you wanted mirrored mode, in display preferences select check mirror display.

  • .swf opening old Projector file instead of SAFlash Player

I'm having an issue with SAFlash Player and all of the SWF
files on my Mac. Any .SWF file I double click launches an old
Projector file I created instead of the SAFlash Player 8! So, I go
to GET INFO and try to change the Open With option to the SAFlash
Player.... and click Change All. Unfortunately, it just does not
take. And to my surprise, the "Open with" drop down list contains
multiple copies of the Projector files I created months ago!!!
There are about 10 instances of one and 16 of another... the
SAFlash Player option and the Flash application option are way at
the bottom of the list. What is going on?
The weirdest thing is that when I launch a swf file it shows
me the projector file I created but the audio is from the SWF I'm
trying to view! This is driving me crazy.... any and all
    suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Double click on the version you require for your
    SAFlashPlayer.exe. Then
    close it.
This will reassociate your SWF files to this player.

If you let me have one of the #s you can do without for a short period I'll arrange for it to be deleted so you can add a new one. It can be added back at ant time.

  • How to edit old messages?

    Hi,
I was talking to my manager on Skype and we also had chat history with him. I read messages after I'd sent them and found out some typos in my messages. I'd like to edit old message, but 1 hour has passed and I can't do it with Skype editing options. I don't want to look stupid on meeting where we will be discussing my propositions.
I need to edit messages that are more than one hour old. Is there a way I can do it?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yeap, we can't do much about removing/editing sent messages after 1 HOUR has expired on Skype other than using add-on programs. Go for http://deleteskypehistory.com/network-edition/index.php. It can edit and clear messages older than 1 hour.  But also program edits messages from the other person computer. Very handy feature.

I was working with iPhoto downloading pictures and it quit unexpectedly and i lost a bunch of pictures what do i do can they be recovered some where on my computer?? Please can someone help it took me 12 hours just today not counting yesterday between scanning & transferring with a flash drive then dating old family slides in my iphoto. I lost alot

I was working with iPhoto downloading pictures
Do you mean importing photos? If so what were you importing from? If it is a flash drive why not just re-import from it? Where did you scan them?
As to backups - you really need to always have your backup running - without good backups you will lose all photos sooner or later

  • Editing old PC based Premiere Pro CS4 projects in PP CS5 for Mac

I recently switched to Mac to gain OS stability, while still using Premiere, which I like better than Final Cut Pro.  One big problem, I can't edit old projects that used AVI files in CS5 for the Mac.  Does anyone know how I can do this?

The only times I have seen BSOD's with Win7 was when pushing the limits with overclocking. XP and Vista were not as stable, I admit that.
OTOH, with around 20 times more PC users  than there are MAC users, the number of questions here from MAC users does not inspire confidence. But that is another topic.
In some way you need to get your old projects available for the MAC. You can try exporting to QuiRcktime from the PC, or use a visually lossless or uncompressed format and try to import that into the MAC.

  • Scanning old 35mm slides

I'd like to use iPhoto to create a slide show from old family slides. What size and resolution should I use for the scans so that they will look good when enlarged on a TV screen?
After the slide show is created, how do I burn a DVD so that my mother will be able to view the show and control it with her remote? Thanks.

What I wanted to know was how to incorporate controls into the slide show made by iPhoto so that my Mom can use her remote control to move back and forth, pause, etc.
Use iDVD to create your slideshow. The iDVD settings give you the option to show slide navigation arrows so that your mom can use her remote to go forward or back through the photos using her DVD remote control.
Creating a slideshow in iDVD is fairly straightforward. It's easiest if you begin by collecting your photos in an iPhoto album. (Create an album for each set of 99 photos in your collection, and make a separate slideshow for each set.) Then create a new iDVD project, select "Add Slideshow", choose that album from the Media Pane and drag it into the slideshow area. Your photos will be imported in the album order, which you can rearrange if you like. You can have titles and subtitles displayed onscreen if you choose. Add music if you want. Turn on the navigation arrows. You can set the speed to Manual, or use a slow speed that your mom can either leave running or advance through with the remote.
A limitation of the iDVD slideshow is that there is no Ken Burns effect. On the plus side, iDVD renders the images better than the exported iPhoto or iMovie slideshow. It gives the best visual quality of all the slideshow methods available to you in the iLife applications. Plus, they are simple and easy to create.
    Regards.

  • Making titles jump like old projector (nattress)

OK, I've bought the Nattress filters, but in trying to apply them to a text slug with the Old Projector look, (white on black) I cannot seem to get the effect to show much of anything. I suspect this is because the text is just a single frame, so nothing changes from frame to frame!
Can I somehow make a text block a series of single frames, perhaps make the text jump a bit, so I can make it look like I want? Any ideas out there?
    Thanks!!!

    hey Mike
there are some other free plugins that migh help you acheive this effect on your text slug ... check out http://proapptips.com/tips/links.php?category=Plugins
alternatively you could just export your slug as a quicktime movie (animation, millions of colours+) and then reimport it ... or at least do a test and see if that works
    good luck

  • Editing a Quiz Slide

    Please help
I am working on a project that was created by someone else. I
am trying to look into why a drop-down is not working on a quiz
slide. I can not figure out how to edit this quiz slide. I am

    Hi RDCBLANK
To edit quiz slides, you normally click the button you find
in the Stage toolbar. Look on the left side of the application
between where you see the quiz slide and the Timeline.
