Editing on the new Mac iOS

Good afternoon
I used to be able to create a new project, drag the Mp3 file from my desktop into track one and just edit the length.
Since downloading thye new OS, I can't seem to do this quickly.
I've tried looking at Youtube tutorials but there is nothing recent
Please help.
Thanks,
Peter.

THe procedure should work the way léonie explained it.
I have to questions about your response:
1) What do you mean with "Choose Keyboard Sample"?
2)What do you mean with "I can't find that track on the Timeline". Do you eman the Region.
When you drag an mp3 file to your Project (onto an existing Track Lane or below), upi shold see a little window with a progress bar that indicated the conversion.
GarageBand uses aiff audio format internally, so it has to convert the mp3 audio format first. Once that conversion is donw, the Audio Region should be there on your Track Lane where you dropped it.
Hope that helps

  • Is it ok that the new Mac IOS update take a long time?

    Guys,
I have more than one hour waiting for the new Mac IOS update. Is it normal? The screen is only with the Apple and 1/4 of progress. Thanks! Ricardo.

The update is about 1.5 GB. So the time to download it is entirely dependent on your Internet connection speed.

  • IMac vs the new Mac Pro for video editing in FCPX?

    Hi.
I am currently using a macbook air for all my editing and rendering of videos in FCPX. The editing process is reasonably smooth when dealing with shorter clips, but when I tried to edit multicam clips, things started to slow down. Also,  the rendering and compression processes are tedious. I am planning to edit and process a much larger number of videos in the next years to come, so I have decided to do a serious upgrade of my system.
For the moment, I am torn between a maxed out iMac 27", which would be the cheapest alternative, and the 6 core Mac Pro or 4 core Mac Pro.
When I look at benchmarks of the new Mac Pro's in Geekbench, the iMac is never very far away in terms of performance.  Does tests like this tell anything about how well the Mac Pro will perform in FCP?   Does the hardware in the Mac Pro have features which makes it superior to the iMac, in other ways than for example the "pure power" of the CPU and GPU?

FCP X 10.1, Motion 5.1 Updates w/Dual GPU Support (new Mac Pros) (from Thursday)
Apple released Final Cut Pro X 10.1 Thursday with support for Dual GPUs in the new Mac Pro and more.
Long list in the Final Cut Pro X 10.1 Release Notes that also links to info on How to back up important FCP X 10.0.x files before updating. (Today's Apple docs listing also has more related to Final Cut Pro X 10.1.)
Also out today are Compressor 4.1 and Motion 5.1. Full release notes below but here's a clip from the App store Motion 5.1 changes:
Optimized playback and rendering using dual GPUs in the new Mac Pro
FxPlug 3 with custom plug-in interfaces and dual-GPU support
Faster project loading, especially for complex projects
Share directly to YouTube at 4K resolution
    Spanish language localization

Intel Xeon processors are designed to run 24/7 and stay cool and under load.
Mac Pro so far hold up strongly for years, easy to add and upgrade RAM and processor, and maybe, hopefully, even the twin GPUs. Thunderbolt2 for all your projects and storage as well.
6 or 8-cores is going to walk away from iMac which is breathing hard and not designed for constant heat. Haswell was designed to conserve and reduce.

  • Import (v. 7.1.5) iPhotos from old iMac to new iMac (v. 9.2) using Migration Mgr. over fire wire.  All photos (  many dups) appeared in EVENTS and PHOTOS in the new Mac – but NO ALBUMS.

Attempted to import 6.5 GB of (v. 7.1.5) iPhotos from old iMac to new iMac (v. 9.2) using Migration Mgr. over fire wire.  All photos (plus many dups) appeared in EVENTS and PHOTOS in the new Mac – but NO ALBUMS.  I read a previous response to a similar question -- to copy the pictures library to the new computer.  How best to do that?

There's actually an option to iPhoto Library Manager that makes this all almost work flawlessly (and work well enough for me). With the exception of Photo Albums that the pictures are part of, if you select "Library > Rebuild Library..." and then select "Scavange Orphaned Photos" check box, then it will put all the Photos and Movies into the "Scavanged Photos" album. It matches the modified pictures to their originals. It preserves all the event names and photo groupings. All the meta-data I could spot check it got right (although with 44k pictures, I only checked a few). If you fail to select this option, however, it will find no pictures at all when it goes to rebuild the library (this was true of the small test libraries I tried as well as the big, monster 280GB library I just finished converting). The conversion process took 5 hours to run, but in the end produced a library my new iPhoto can read and that I can interact with. I'll be suggesting to the iPhoto Library Manager folks a notation that would estimate the number of Orphaned Photos and display that number as a hint to the user that the option would be useful.
Edited: Thanks to Old Toad and LarryHN for their help in finding which of the many options to transition this library to 9.5.1 I needed to use. Sorry if I took my frustration of the past several months out on you guys for generously trying to help me.

This sounds different than with my IOS devices, since I am able to see the photos even with a connection to the Internet.
Do you mean without a connection to the internet? With a connection it's logical you would be able to see the PS.
The following is from iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
Can photos be saved or downloaded from a shared photo stream?
Yes. Once photos are shared, anyone who can view the shared photo stream can download and keep the photos permanently.
On a device using iOS 6 or later, you can save photos to the Camera Roll. On a Mac, using iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4, you can save photos from the shared stream to your local Photo Library or any other location on your Mac. On a Windows PC, you can copy photos from a shared photo stream to any folder. On the web, photos can be downloaded directly to your computer from the detail view of each photo.
This tells me that the image files are not on the HD unless the subscriber chooses to download them.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Premiere Pro CC and the new Mac Pro - are all upgrades necessary?

Monday I'm ordering the new Mac Pro because my Mid 2012 Mac Pro tower is simply too slow and crashy no matter how much money I sink into it. Thing is, every little upgrade I add onto this new Mac Pro is very expensive, so I want to make sure I don't add anything that won't make a difference in edit performance.
My ultimate goal is to be able to work with 4k, and even 5k footage in 2014. More and more clients are giving me Red media, and my system right now can't handle it (I have to render proxy files for everything).
Attached are my hardware upgrade options for my processor and graphics card. These options can only be offered when I order the computer. Neither the processor or the GFX card can be changed by me later. Note that these options alone almost double the computers's price (3600). As of now I assume that getting the fastest everything is the way to go, but is there any reason I should not go this high?
    jesse

We have an issue when we send a film to the media encoder it crashes about half of the time for no particular reason
Anyone else got that too with Premiere Pro CC and the new Media encoder?

  • Memory for the "New" Mac Pro ???

I have a 2 x 2.66 Dual-core. I've had it for about a week. I found out about the new macs and realized I ordered mine a day before they released the new ones. I called and was told I could return. My question is I just purchased 4 gigs of ram for my 2.66 Dual Core. Is it the same memory???
Message was edited by: Keith Middlemiss

Yes, memory always has to obey the "lowest slowest" common speeds (and lucky it works probably).
I expect vendors to just phase out 667MHz in favor of dual 667/800 the way they have in the past when DDR and DDR2 moved to faster standard, and backward compatible.

  • Editing hdv on new mac mini?

hi, i want to buy the new 599$ mac mini but first, would anyone know if it can indeed edit hdv? im thinking of buying it with final cut pro/studio. (not long movies, just less then 10 minute hdv clips)
im very new to the mac world. im use to windows pcs, but im hoping to pick up my first mac soon. as a hs student, i can't afford the current or older mac pros, but i can afford the new mac mini at 599 (i could afford the upgraded one, but im going to save that part for maxing out the memory and some software).

    Hi,
The Mac Mini and any other Mac that has a Shared Video Card are not qualified to run and will not run Final Cut Pro. One of the requirements for final Cut is to have a non-shared Video Card. Check the Specs, a Mac Mini, a couple of the laptops and the lower end iMacs have shared video cards and are not capable of running Final Cut Pro.
However, Final Cut Express is designed to run on these machines and will edit HDV, but you will have to check into the limits of Final Cut Express to see if this is an Editing environment you would like to use. the Editing interface is basically the same, but some of the more involved aspects have been disabled. Primarily, the ability to use any type of capture card, like a Kona or Black Magic card. But if you are truly only going to Edit HDV footage, FC Express might be a good option.
    Hope that helps.

  • Using both the display ports on the new mac book pro

Hi, are there some one in Appel that can tell me if its possible to use both the display ports on the new mac book pro to show keynote on? or if its possible to make that possible? i would really like to be able to create a keynote with 5120 x 1600 pixels and get that output on two display ports, so that i can use my hardware to make a keynote with really nice reselution. its for use on a screen size of 18x4 meter.

Connect one display to the Mini-Displayport and the other to a USB port using an adapter like this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/VIDU2DVIA/
Or buy a Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition external video box and connect both displays to that, which in turn connects to the Mini-Displayport on the computer.
There are limitations either way. A USB-connected display will be less responsive than one connected to the MDP, because USB 2 is slow. To use two displays with the Matrox box, I believe the displays must be identical. Read and understand all the caveats about each alternative before making a decision about which way to go.

The Mac App Store only has apps for Mac OS X. There are no iOS apps.

    The requirements for iTunes:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
Your Mac must be able to run OSX 10.6.8. If you can run that OSX then you can run iTunes 11.1.

  • Using ADC Monitor with the new Mac Mini

My husband has an Apple monitor with an ADC connection. I would like to purchase the new Mac Mini, but would like to use his current monitor. I know there is an ADC to DVI adapter, but the new Mac Mini uses the Mini Display...could I use yet another adapter? I am trying to save money, but don't want to the display quality to be really poor. Space is not an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have located that, but my concern is the DVI connection to the Mini Display connection on the Mac Mini. My understanding is that they are different.
