Editing online interactive forms using Acrobat XI Pro

Our organization recently purchased Adobe Acrobat XI Pro in hopes of using it to create and convert many of our forms to electronic format. We recently tried opening an existing online interactive form to edit it and it says "This form cannot be edited in Acrobat. Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form". Did we purchase the wrong product for what we are trying to do? I'm in panic mode because we are very new to this type of editing and I hope we didn't purchase the wrong thing. Any suggestions?

There are two kinds of PDF forms: Acrobat forms and LiveCycle Designer
forms. The latter are actually XML files and can only be edited in
LiveCycle Designer, which used to be bundled with Acrobat Pro but is not
any more. If your forms were created in LCD then you need to purchase that
application as well if you want to edit them.

1. I you are woking from the Web Dynpro for ABAP then after binding the Context variable in the view, and in the Adobe Layout Designer from the Library goto WebDynpro Native Tab and drag and drop the Value Help and for this automatically JavaScript is being generated, go that script and edit the line
Var fieldname = "yourfieldname";
Note: dont forget to link the context attribute to search help. ie. in the context properties of the attributes select the input help mode as dictionary search help and specify the name of the search help present in data dictionary.
And now go to Utilities and click on u201CInsert Web Dynpro Scriptu201D.
Also make sure that you specify the Layout as ZCI Layout in the Propertioes of the Adobe Form.
2. Only the Submit button , the Enumerated Drop-Down List as well as the Value help button from the Web Dynpro Native library of Adobe LiveCycle Designer are supported. Check SAP Note: 1098009

Change subject line of email when submitting a form using Acrobat X Pro

I have created an interactive PDF in Acrobat X PRO with a submit a form button. Everything works fine all the way through distribution except that I need the Subject Line of the submitted form when attached to an email to read "Form Returned: File Name" rather than "Submitting Completed Form". All of my past forms had the "Form Returned: File Name" subject line automatically...did something change and is it possible to change the subject line? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. I had actually come across that form on multiple occasions during my research. Looks like I need the doc.mailDoc() function, but there isn't an example of the code. Looking in other places I have tried a few things unsuccessfully. I did find this, which I thought would be even better than Form Returned: File Name in the subject line...actually taking information from fields in the form:

Online interactive form using ABAP

Is it possible to create an ABAP program for Online Interactive form (NW 2004)? or do we need ABAP Webdynpro (NW 2004s)?
We have implemented an offline scenario i.e. create an interactive PDF, fill the forms, save it, upload it and extract information from PDF. It is working fine. But we are not able to implement online interactive scenario.
Any suggestion?

While SAP certainly does not recommend to create interactive scenarios from transaction SFP (please use Web Dynpro for such scenarios), it is not entirely correct to say that it is not possible.
The issue we see is that SFP was created for output forms, i.e. "one way out of the system" (to print etc.). Interactive Forms is based on XML, which means that in ABAP you need to convert the ABAP structures to XML for generation of the PDF on the ADS, and - in interactive scenarios - on the return trip you need to convert the XML (in the PDF) back to ABAP structures. The conversion from ABAP to XML and vice versa is done in the background automatically by the Web Dynpro environment, which is why we recommend it for interactive use. There is no automatic back conversion in SFP, i.e. you'd need to handcode this - which means additional cost and potential for error.

Why can't I see the text I enter when testing a fillable form using Acrobat 9 Pro?

I created a fillable pdf using Acrobat 9 Pro. I have done this several times over the last two years with no problems. Recently, when I tested my fields by typing in text, it didn't show up. Out of sheer frustration I just typed a staggering amount of letters and suddenly I could see a couple of letters, but they were chopped off at the top, and no where near the bottom of the field where they should be. What is going on?

I know!!! This is so frustrating. I have attached the document.
Maybe you can try to type in it and see. I used the default font, but I
did change the size from "varies" to "10 pt."

My document has extended features, if you open this in Reader or Pro does it work the same?

For the most part.
If it is enabled, Reader users will be able to fill in form fields, add comments then save when finished. But they won't be able to add form fields or do any other editing that Acrobat can do.

Can I auto-populate fields in a pdf form based on responses in other fields (using Acrobat XI PRO)?

I am creating a fillable pdf form using Acrobat XI Pro and would like to be able to auto-populate text fields in one section of the form based on responses entered by respondents in an earlier section. Is this possible? If so, would it function for respondents using Adobe Reader to complete the form?

Thanks, George! In the form I am creating, I ask respondents to identify a number of organizations that they work with. For example, I ask "Please list up to ten organizations" and then I provide ten text boxes for organizations 1-10. I then ask a series of follow up questions (radio buttons, check boxes, and rating scales) about each organization. I would like to auto-populate the fields of those follow up questions with the names of the organizations that the respondents had written. Does that make sense? Will this require JavaScript? My hope is to avoid complicated scripts that may give respondents technical problems with the form. Thanks again,

However, now when they try to use version 11 to edit the form, they receive the following message: This form cannot be edited in Acrobat. Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form.
If I remember correctly, version 10 (or some package suite) use to install LiveCycle along with version 10. This doesn't seem to be the case with version 11. So... How do we obtain LiveCycle Designer? Is it still available to install on a desktop or is it only available in the cloud? Or, preferably, is there a way to edit the form using Acrobat Pro version 11?
I don't work with Adobe forms, so any information you can provide will be extremely helpful. Thanks.

LCD forms can only be edited in LCD. However, Adobe stopped distributing LCD together with Acrobat. You need to purchase it separately now, but if you had a previous license you can get it at a large discount, I think. Try the LCD forums for more info about that.

I have a PDF file which seems to have been created using acrobat 8.1 file maker for Word. Is it possible to edit this file using acrobat 9 pro extended and if so how do i go about this..
When i select the tools menu, no options become available and there is no secuirty enabled on the file.

If you have Acrobat Pro Extended that is a PC Product. You've clicked on wrong Forum. Go back to main page the click on Acrobat and choose PC forum. Extend has such features as XML based PDF Forms which Acrobat Pro Mac can't handle.

And the degree of effective editing may be an issue. Editing is not a recommended task in Acrobat, but instead edit in the original doc and recreate the PDF.

How can I edit large amount of data using Acrobat X Pro

I need to edit a catalog that contains large amount of data - mainly the product price. Currently I can only export the document into excel file and then paste the new price onto the catalog using Acrobat X Pro one by one, which is extremely time-consuming. Yes I am able to edit text/image via tool box, but the thing is the catalog contains more than 20,000 price data and all I can do is deleteing the orginal price info from catalog and replace it with the revised data from excel. Repeating this process over 20,000 times would be a waste of time and manpower... Not sure if I make my situation clear enough? Pls just ask away, I really hope to sort it out, Thanks!

I am currently developing an online interactive form and in it, a textbox which allows user to search for employee data in the backend in the event that the default name is not correct. However, I noticed that in the proerty field of my interactiveform, there is only OnCheck and OnSubmit. Is it possible for me to make a search in the backend and have the results returned to my adobe form again ?

Hi Kwok Wei,
OnSubmit and OnCheck work in the same way. So if you need 2 buttons in your form then you can use both of these.
I have never tried passing parameters but you can define context attributes and assign values. Later these can be accessed from the onSubmit Method.
