Editing pictures with DxO under iPhoto

Hello Folks!
Can anyone help?
I do use iPhoto 6 and DxO Optics Pro 3.5.
In the preferences of iPhoto I selected DxO as the external program which edits my photos.
Now the issue starts: DxO renames edited files in order not to destroy the original. This leads to the situation that iPhoto does not find the edited file.
Has anyone got a solution how the preferences should be selected in both iPhoto and DxO that both applications can work together? If not, is there any workaround to solve the issue?
Kind regards,
Holger

Once you create the modified version on the desktop drag it into the open iPhoto thumbnail window. It will be imported into a new roll in iPhoto. You can then select that thumbnail and drag it onto the roll icon of the roll that the original file is located. That will place the new file in the same folder and the original file in the Originals folder.
You do not want to do any moving or renaming of files and folders in the iPhoto Library folder from the finder. That's the kiss of death: Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder

  • Unable to send pictures with mail from iPhoto

Since yesterday i cannot use iPhoto to send pictures with mail, it just does not open a new mesage in mail. can you help me please? have done cleaning tasks and repeired permissions already. thank you.

    Does anything happen?
Have you deleted the iPhoto Preference file - A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help

  • Editing pictures with "Adobe Photoshop"

    Hi all,
My friend has 500 jpeg pictures (all the same size ect....)
and needs to edit each one (change the canvas and image size and a few other things)
I was wondering if I could simulate keyboard keys been pressed because... I can apply all changes to the image from the keyboard "Ctrl+Shift+whateva" and "tab , tab, down arrow, enter... and so on...
So could I start Adobe Photoshop then run my program in the background and simulate keys been pressed... with about half a second pause between each key... so I open all 500 images then let the program loop over a few keys that need to be pressed... in order for the images to be edited ....
Is this possible.... please provide some information....
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
If you want to do the same thing to each picture you could just use the "Actions" feature of Photoshop. Unless this doesn't meet your needs of course.
    Window -> Show Actions.
You can record any steps possible in Photoshop (e.g. Canvas Size etc.) and then run the same commands on a whole bunch of Images in a folder using
    File -> Automate -> Batch...
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't Sync pictures with iPad from iPhoto in iTunes

I have an iPad 1, and original Aluminum Mac book running 10.7.
When i sync my photos to the ipad in itunes, it will not sync all 3000+ photos i want to sync from 5 different Albums i have set up in iPhoto. It randomly syncs 36 photos and that is it. It also puts the same 36 photos in two different albums. This has only happened since i installed 10.7.
It seems to only add videos and some pictures.

I was able to solve this problem by redownloading and installing iTunes from apple.com.
Then I created a new iTunes Library (hold alt on launch) and synced from this library.
N.B. Since I'm using iTunes Match and Mavericks has iBooks, my iTunes Library doens't contain any items on disk, so creating a new Library doesn't matter. If you have your music and or other items synced from your library, this may be not the best solution.
So looks like you are warning that creating a new library will loose things like album artwork, playcount etc.
Not really willing to take that sort of hit for Apples random decision to remove a key feature (even if it is a bug).
I would gladly receive any additional advice!

  • How do I OUTPUT an edited picture file from the iPad (latest) to an external USB for easy transfer?

I am a photographer and I use my camera and iPad everyday. Camera takes pictures, connect to iPad, edit pictures with iPad software, output to Internet somwhere (Dropbox, etc..).
However, sometimes I need to hand someone a USB stick with an edited picture on it that came directly from the iPad. I know that I could do it by buying another computer but that would be silly. I do not have another computer.
I need to get the picture file OFF the iPad onto an external storage device (USB stick for instance). Can anyone help?

Currently you can't use the camera connection kit to export pic to a USB thumb drive or an SD card.

  • Why downsizing the edited picture while saving?

After saving edited pictures with the app for Android, it seems like the pictures are saved with lower resolution.  Is there a possibility to save full resolution?  How and where to change this setting?
I did not know this until I came back from holiday. Because I liked my edited pictures better, I deleted the original once.  When showing them to friends and family the edited pictures where much smaller as the deleted original once.  Is it possible to change this in the future?
    Thanks for information,
    Ans

I did some testing and got the following result:  the orginal picture is 2592 x 1944.  After only cropping a little piece from the original and then pressing the save icon the picture is saved 889 X 740.  The same original picture edited by changing the exposure and pressing the save icon is saved 1024 x 768. I tested with a second picture, with the same result.  It happens as well if you select first the pic and then edit, or first edit and then selecting the pic.
It would be great if you could find a solution.  The free app has a lot of feature.  Hopefully we can use them in the future and keep the orginal seize of our picture.

  • If I back up iMovie projects to an external drive does it take the media with it? I want to free up space and remove pictures that were in iPhoto...that were used as media by iMovie when project was under way. In short I want archive iMovie stuff

If I back up iMovie projects to an external drive does imovie  take the media with it? I want to free up space and remove pictures that were in iPhoto...that were used as media by iMovie when project was under way. In short I want archive iMovie stuff. If I pull pics out of iPhoto, and later want to drag an archived projet bac into iMovie and the pics are no longer in iPhoto, will I be able to keep working in the project in iMovie?

Very likely not, as the iPhoto's can be used for something else.
More like it took a copy, or it's referencing that spot on the drive in the editable files and most likely made a copy to create a new permanent export file.
Sample one picture and a iMovie file and see what happens.

  • Why is it that even after editing a picture under iPhoto, the original picture is still the file that is being exported?

Why is it that even after editing a picture under iPhoto, the original picture is still the file that is being exported?

because you are exporting the original?
SInce you give us no information at all we can only guess and that is the most likely
How are you editing the photo - iPhoto? An external editor? How?
    how are you exporting?

  • Iphoto edited pictures not importing ipad

    Hello
Is it possible that my edited pictures on Iphoto get imported as original (with no changes) to my Ipad2?
    Is there a solution?
    Thankyou!
    Alex

    Alexmanj-
I believe you are correct.  Try exporting the photos from iPhoto and placing them in a folder.  The exported photos should have all the latest changes.  In iTunes, select your iPad under DEVICES and click the Photos tab at the top of that screen.  Specify the new folder for transfering photos to the iPad and re-sync.
As an alternative, you could export the photos, rename them, and then move them back into iPhoto.  They will be treated as new originals.

  • How do I transfer a multiple number of my edited pictures from iPhoto on my iPad to iPhoto on my mac?

I have been working on my ipad with iphoto. First I transferred the pictures from my SD card with connection kit and then I started to edit a lot of them. Now i need to transfer them back to my mac. I would like to continue manage them in Iphoto on the mac but I can not find the option. When I import the pictures via Iphoto or aperture the pictures transfers without the changes I made on the Ipad. I've also tried the command "Send to Itunes" but nothing happens. Do I really need to convert every edited picture to the camera roll ONE BY ONE and then sync the normal way? And I need them with no loss of quality because I want to print a book later. Please help.

There is no link between iPhoto (or Aperture) on your Mac and the app on iOS. So you'll need to export from the iOS app and then import to your preferred app on the Mac. For details on that:

  • Iphoto 11 edited pictures are shown in reduced size

    Hello,
    maybe someone has a tip:
I have imported some very important Jpegs from a Nikon D90 to Iphoto. Then right click and edit in external photo editor (Photoshop). After finsihed editing, hit the save button. Closed the photo in Photoshop, and returned to Iphoto, where the new enhanced image show up.
    Up to here "everthing normal".
Now, opening a day later Iphoto, I can see the thumbnails of the event (as usual) , BUT when clicking on them, a heavy reduced file size picture shows up for a second, followed by a heavy zoomed in part of the Image. First I thought, okay, at least the high resolution image is still there, and I only have to zoom back with the slider to get it to normal view - but this is not possible. It stays this size.
To save the pictures, I used the function "show edited Picture"in FInder, and so I started Copying them to a separate Folder, in fear i might loose them.
So, pictures are saved, but library is somehow not working right. I also used the "create new thumbnails" function when starting Iphoto with command/alt. But it did not improve anything.
Any idea how to fix it?
    Regards
    Michael

If you're running Lion or Mt Lion that library folder will be invisible.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Once you make your library folder visible you'll be able to find and delete the iPhoto cache.

  • Printing iPhoto Pictures with Titles

iPhoto provides for titles with pictures and a description with the picture as well. Is there a way to print pictures with their itle and description?

Within iPhoto the only way is using the contact sheet option as Daiya pointed out. If you want to put the info on the photo itself you'll need a 3rd party editor link Photoshop Elements, Seashore orAcorn. If you go to VersionTracker.com and search for "image editor" you'll get a number of candidates.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Any work you do in Lightroom is in the catalog. It is impossible to use Lightroom without a catalog.
In addition, your photos are filed in a specific location, which is determined when you import the photos (this may be a location you have specified or it may be the default location chosen by Lightroom).
So ... unless you specifically choose to delete your photos, your photos have not been deleted. To find them, open Lightroom and select File->Open Recent and select each catalog shown there until you find the one with your 170 photos.
And now ... a word to the wise: as gvb279 and Keith said, you absolutely need to stop doing whatever it is you are doing and learn the basics of Lightroom. You are clearly in need of such basic understanding. In addition to the links given above, there are many valuable instructional tutorials here: Getting Started with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 | Adobe TV

  • IPhoto does not show any of my edited pictures

I recently upgraded from SL to Lion. After that, all I wanted to restore was iphoto, so I restored the iphoto folder. After that all my events but five was black and showed no pictures, all thumbs was corrupt etc. So I started iPhoto while holding two keys down, like I read I should, and then I restored everything but one option. I left it for the night as it seemed to take for ever. Today everything looked fine, great! Or.. no all photos I ever edited looks as they originaly did. All modifications are gone, atleast thats what I thought but then I looked in the iphoto folder and the modified folder is still there and full of photos. If I click edit on a previously edited picture I see the modified version ... when I return to event or album view, it shows orignal again. Help please!

Where did you restore the library from?  Time Machine?  If so resore it again (you can keep both) and when the library has been restored download and run  BatChmod  on the library with the settings in the screenshot below:
Launch iPhoto and check your edited photos.  If that doesn't  help try rebuilding the library using  iPhoto Library Manager  as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto won't save edited pictures

What has happened to iPhoto since the last update??? It will not save the edited pictures, you waste time carefully editing photos just to find out it does not save them.
It also is having problems switching from full screen to regular format, as well as trouble importing pictures.
Apple what have you done???? I'm having nightmare flashbacks of the Microsoft days. Quality control has really gone down.
Is anybody else experiencing these issues?
    DC

I had  the same problem and after some gnashing of teeth and tearing of hair and barking at the apple support rep was able to determine that I just have too many pictures on my MacBook .  Once I started deleting, the editor came back little by little.  The editor saves the original plus your new version makes two and if you are too heavy with photos it can't handle one more thing so it just throws its little hands in the air and says enough!!! Watcha do in' to me?   I am overfed and ready to vomit!!!
