Editing plug-in settings on the fly...

OK, so I'm starting to get used to this program, starting to grasp the automation. Now, I've been able to save settings onto plugins where I want the plugin set to at certain points. Is there a way for me to, say, instantly set the automation to match a particular setting? As in, change the settings of the plugin from one setting to another on the fly during the playback, without having to set each automation bit seperately?

I just write that a couple of timeson other posts, here's once more:
Open the plug-in, on channel strip change the off or read to TOUCH,
press play and press (you can bring down the tempo, just to get more time on your moves) Bypass button (on plug-in) (ORANGE in every area you don't need it) click on it again (GRAY in the areas you want the effect)
stop change to READ and the automation's done.
You can do this with every parameter too, in your case it's probably the best solution, every touch on the plug-in slider will write a different automation, and you can recall it from the menu, the best way to do it in my advive if you have several slides too change is do it in loop mode and every time (pass) you deal with one.

Next-Generation Plug-In settings in the Enterprise

I work in a company of 1000+ desktops and various user groups running various core systems. For background, we've been standardized on IE 6 for years, and we're trying to move to IE 8.
I'm looking into an issue with one of our core systems. It's a 3rd party solution that relies on an applet that fails when the latest JRE is downloaded and the "Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in" is checked (which it is by default).
I've been searching the web, and I know most of the work-arounds, including how to run ssvagent.exe -high -jpisetup -old from the JRE install folder. I'm almost ready to pass this information on to our desktop admins, but I have a few questions I know they are going to ask. I would deeply appreciate any help in answering these questions:
What is the possible impact of disabling the next-generation Java Plug-in on other applets from other 3rd party vendors? Are we likely to run into some applets/plug-ins that fail when this option is disabled?
The vendor of the app that's failing isn't being very helpful. Is there any info we can give them on how to recompile the applet so that it works under the default setting?
What are other large enterprises doing to manage this?

I tried the java_version param. It prompted me with a warning informing me that the app would run an earlier version of Java. I clicked run, and continued having the same issue. I captured this from the console:

Changing applications' font settings on-the-fly

Hey everybody,
I'm using Arch on the 13.3" laptop (with awesome wm as window manager). Frequently I plug in an 21" external monitor via HDMI cable. Because of this difference all the font I setted up for laptop's screen look enormous on external monitor.
It's easy to change font's sizes by altering a bunch of configs for different types of applications (~/.Xresources, ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini, ~/.gtkrc-2.0.mine, ~/.config/Trolltech.conf etc.), but the changes wont apply until the X server is restarted. Unfortunately, that means a loss of all the applications running.
Is there a way to reapply gtk, qt configs without restarting applications or without restarting X server?

It's the difference in screen resolution that matters, not the difference in screen size. If the external monitor has a lower resolution than the laptop display, the fonts will appear larger because the same number of pixels occupy a larger physical area (the pixels themselves are bigger). You can use lxappearance like xero suggested, but it changes fonts for everything, so if you use the laptop display and external monitor simultaneously the fonts on the laptop display will be changed as well.

Multicam editing, but not "on the fly."

Using USB 2.0 hard drives I can edit 4 DV clips on the fly but only 2 1920x1080 ProRes 422 before dropped frames occur. FW800 will allow more.
However, I seem to recollect that muliclips can be edited carefully and slowly rather than playing and editing in real time.
Is this possible with FCP X and how would I go about it?
Assuming it is possible, would I be correct in thinking that more clips could be used and because I wouldn't be "playing" them there would be no problem with dropped frames?

Another peculiar thing has occurred. I tend to use USB 2.0 HDs more than FW and recently on test I could only get 2 angles of 1080i ProRes 422 to play without dropped frames.
3 angles or more choked the playback, but today I am able to do 4 angles reasonably smoothly though I get a dropped frames warning at the end.
I'm puzzled as to why I got the 2 very differing results.
Anyway that's all academic as by using the method you outlined it doesn't really matter how slow the HD is.

Java plug-in settings

Is there a way to change the java plug-in settings outside the control panel??? Can I use an ant script or env-variable? Or can I edit some .ini file or even the windows registry???

We operate in a lockdown environment and have never got the C:\Windows\sun\java\deployment\deployment.properties or deployment.config to work for anything but JWS stuff. However, the we can provide a script through which users can create or modify their own deployment.properties file under their application data folder.
For us, this file does not exist when the user first gets 1.4.2 installed, the plugin seems to use defaults. The file will be created if for example the user resets the cache location using the CPL file (the JavaPlugin Control Panel). We can use the script to either create a basic deployment.properties file or to parse and apply changes to an existing one.
Try looking for it in <user profile>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment. If you can't find it then you should be able to create it by opening the CPL and changing, say, the cache location.

Error when editing Broadcast Scheduling Settings

Hi there
We are experiencing a problem when editing Broadcast Schedule settings. The message that appears is:
[code] Java system error: Server repository could not create function template for 'RSRD_X_GET_INFO_PROXY' caused by: com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception: (103)

To produce this error:
1. Open a web template in the browser, then click on the Broadcast button
2. In the first screen that opens, click on the link that takes us to the scheduling settings
3. Right-click on an existing schedule setting, select EDIT
4. A popup screen appears informing me that there was an error loading the template,then if I click on a tab or try to do anything further, I get a screen with the above error message.
Any ideas?

Unable to edit listener gateway settings

I am unable to edit listener gateway settings. The response is you do not have enought privilages to perform this operation.
I have tried using both dad_admin and sso_admin users both have failed. How should i proceed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have You tried to log into the portal as DAD (default portal30). Under administer tab, there is a portlet Listener Gateway Settings (http://<host:port>/pls/portal30/admin_/gateway.htm). Then the second link (http://<host:port>/pls/portal30/admin_/dadentries.htm) leads You to a list for "Database Access Descriptor Name"s.

I have the new macbook pro from late 2011. when i try plugging my cannon gl2 into the mac via firewire 800 it does not show up in iMovie as an option to import from. i even have gone into my settings on the camera and changed it to vcr.

"the one before the new ritina display" i have a cannon gl2 video camera which is mini dv. when i plug it into my mac via firwire 800 it does not show up in the iMovie. i have set the settings on the camera to vcr mode and changed it to av->dv out. when i click on the import from camera on imovie it doesnt even show my camera in it. it just gives me the option to import video from my facetime camera. the camera is turned on the wires are connected i know for fact that its a firewire and not a usb. i know what they each look like. i bought the firewire cable and it was marked down cause it was an opened and used item. would it be possible that it could be deffected and if that is not the reason what other options do i have?

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.

Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

I got the error message:
The document could not be printed
I googled this error message and used the following
solution that worked i.e. it then printed successfully.
Edit > Preferences
Category: Security(Enhancement) 'Enable Protected Mode at Startup'
It was checked, changed it to unchecked.
Category: Documents 'View documents in PDF/Mode'
It was set to 'Only for PDF/A'
Set it to 'Never'
Exited Adobe Reader and restart it. Then it printed.
I had a look on another computer system (Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.10
and MS Window 7) and on this different computer I could print
without doing the above two changes.
I'm a bit puzzled. Why preferences on one system were not
needed on a different system?

Here is an elaborate method of troubleshooting this problem. There may be a simpler method if anybody wants to suggest one.
There is a general technique that is helpful in this situation. I can't give you complete instructions here, and I haven't tested this with regard to bluetooth devices, but here's the gist of it.
Create a second log-on account for your music projects. Configure it so that when you log in to the new music account, the drivers needed for the Bluetooth devices don't load. You do this in System Preferences: Accounts.
When it's time to do music, log out of your usual account and onto the new one.
When you install drivers for any peripheral, you have the option of installing them "for all users" or only for the user account that is active during the installation.
This governs whether the drivers go in root/library or root/Users/your name/library.
If drivers are in root/library, they will load whenever the Mac is booted up and will run for all users.
But if drivers are loaded in root/Users/your name/library, they will only load if you log in as "your name". If you have a second account called root/Users/music account/, and you log in under that, the drivers in "your name" will not load. Get it?
To get this working right you need to be knowledgeable about moving or deleting files in the /library/ directory and subdirectories, and you need to be careful because you can unwittingly cause some damage if you are not careful.
There is also the root/System/library directory, and in general you should never mess around with anything in there or you might hose your system.
In summary, I would start by using the installer programs for your BlueTooth devices and DE-installing all drivers. Reboot. Log back in as your usual user account. Then RE-install each driver and see if the installer program gives you the OPTION to installl for all users or just for this user. Choose the latter. Then log on to your new Music account and see if the problems go away.

Installed latest softward for my ipad 2 and now it want's me to connect to iTunes and restore to factory settings!? What do I do? I can't access the iPad2 other than a screen that shows a plug being inserted into the iTunes logo.

So I saw that my software needed to be updated, so I did it over wifi, then a picture with the plug being inserted into the iTunes logo appears on the screen when finished the install. I plug my iPad 2 into the connector and iTunes sees the iPad 2 connected. Then a window opens that says to restore to use iTunes. I click restore and a second message appears stating something to the effect "Are you sure you want to restore to factory setting all info will be lost."
NO I don't want to loose everything.
My iPad only powers on with the image of a cord pugging into the iTunes logo. I can't get past it and I don't want to restore the iPad 2 to factory settings.
What do I do?

Generally it gets this info from the Identity in the preferences. Unfortunately, I know of no way to change the Login Name that shows up in the comments. I need to look at newer versions of Acrobat on other machines, this is AA8.

You have to do it on the Apple TV itself while it's plugged into a TV so that you can see its screen.

I have a nook and have been using it regularly to borrow library books along with digital editions. Normally as soon as I plug my nook in the icon pops up on the desk top. Now it doesn't and it isn't showing up in the digital editions.

Are you trying to print or to save the doc? Whether you have a working printer or not is really immaterial. If you're trying to print, then File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF…. What settings does the MTS footage need so I can edit in CS4?

I have imported AVCHD MTS files from a Sony camera into CS4. The audio is fine but, completely out of sync with the footage before or after editing.
I've looked through the forum and tried a few ideas but can't seem to get the right answer for my situation.

My mate's camera is a SONY HDR-XR520 and the settings are as follows.
1920 x 1080
25fps

16:9
I've used all of the AVCHD settings in Premiere CS4 i.e. all four 1080i settings and all five 1080p settings.
The audio is fine but the picture cannot keep up with the audio.
I've had CS4 for about a year.
