Editing Plug In Workflow

This is a follow up to a previous question. Firstly i know it's not not possible to add new plug ins to the internal adjustments within aperture which is a shame.
So i've tried using an external plug in, specifically Magic Bullet Photo Looks because i use the video version as well and like the results.
However is it me, or just this plug in, or is plug in integration with aperture really lame? These are the issues i've encountered, if someone knows a way around or can tell me i'm wrong that would be great
- when you edit with a plug in a 14MB RAW file is first turned into an 80MB tiff file (and at 8 bit too)
- that generates a new master, and then that starts the adjustment workflow anew basically from an 8 bit source now.
- i make adjustments then leave the plug in
- if open the image again any information about those adjustments have gone, there doesn't seem to be any storage of meta information so i cannot tweak. Like wise i'd expect some of the aperture adjustments to happen before the plug in is applied because they're more to do with source RAW conversion.
In reality i'd expect a plug in filter to be applied within the adjustments chain. So that it's live and can be tweaked. I'd also expect aperture to be able to send a screen resolution preview to the plug in or at least the image data aperture is working with rather than create an intermediate huge file.
Is this just the way it is or am i doing something wrong (please!)

That's exactly how it works. When you send a file to an external editor or plugin Aperture creates a TIFF or PSD file with all your adjustments applied. You then work with this rendered file and save it back into Aperture with whatever plugin effect applied.

Or 16-bit. This is a choice in preferences.

Not if you work with Photoshop. You can save layered PSD files and go back in to change things from Aperture.

It would be great to keep everything non-destructive. But right now it's simply not possible. In any DAM.

If you send a screen resolution preview, you're working with a screen resolution preview - not good. And for Aperture to share its image data, third party apps would need to be able to understand it. What you see in Aperture isn't an image: it's a set of instructions within an xml file that are applied in realtime. This is not trivial. It's code, just like each app or plugin has its own code. It's not something that can easily be shared universally.
Your wishes are pretty much what we all wish. But it's not yet reality.

All my material is rendered via RenderMan, our resolution is 1280x544, and our format is generally .exr in 32 bit space.
Our editor has been converting over to 32-bit tiffs, and using Apple Intermediate Codec for editing, mostly for speed concerns.
We need to re-vamp our workflow so that we can edit our footage, and then do color grading of the edit head to tail to smooth the look between scenes. We want to do this in Color, being fed by Final Cut Pro's timeline.
We want to keep our bit depth as high as possible when coming into Color.
My question is, does anyone here have any workflow suggestions for doing what I am talking about.
I wasn't sure if we should just export and EDL from FCP and try to get Color to load our single frames from that. Or if there is a special Quicktime wrapper we should be using, or converting our 32-bit .exr files into some other format more readily available for using in Color?
Any thoughts would be great, thanks in advance!

You're not going to get anywhere beyond 10-bit. That's it.
Try encoding to 10-bit LOG dpx if you need upscale RGB.

Thanks for the reply. The project I am working on is a test project for a customer. They could potentially want a number of their educational subjects presented as an interactive text book. The intent of this first project with them is to establish a logical workflow that will allow us to efficiently estimate costs and allow for review throughout the design process. Having worked with customers on creative projects in the past I can anticipate that they will want a number of changes made once they see a working version of the interactive text book.
It is a grim reality that no project can be fully edited and planned prior to working on it and I know revisions and changes are always made once the customer can see their product. It is ok with me if there is no easy way to pass the text back and forth from the customer and me without having to reformat everything but I just want to know that is the way it works in order to provide a realistic time estimate for the project.
My hope was I would be able to export the formatted text, allow them to make edits and then reimport that formatted text. The style sheets I am using are from one of the iBooks Author templates.
Do you know if there is a way to use (or export ) this style sheet so it can be used in a Pages Document?
Or, would the best option be to have the customer install iBooks Author? This would require the customer to have a mac and the software so it doesn't work for all cases.
Another idea I was considering would be to export the book as a PDF and have the customer add markup and notes to the PDF.
All of these options do not seem too great to me.
I am open to any ideas.

Edit document in workflow

I am new to SharePoint, so please bear with me if this is a dumb question. I am running a standard workflow (Collect Feedback) on a doucment library, and starting it manually. When the recipient receives the automated e-mail notifying them of the task, the hyperlink to the document opens it as 'read only'. I want the reviewer to be able to edit the document and save it back into the document library as a new version. Is this possible, as I haven't seen anything obvious in the workflow set-up dialogue?

Bump, You would think that SharePoint at MS would have done this by now.

I am using BO : SOFM and method : COMPOSE in my workflow. The user uses this step to seek clarification for PO or PR. now the user wants to see the reply and also what he has sent previously in workflow itself.
Is there any other method in BO : SOFM that can be used to edit the previously sent object or is there any other BO that serves the same purpose?
Pls let me know as i am not able to execute the method EDIT in Bo : SOFM.

Load Dropdownlist with share point groups in Edit Form of workflow List

two drop down list
Memeber Group :Load sharepoint groups
Assigned to :Display members from selected group.

Based on your description, do you mean that you want to show two drop down lists in the workflow tasks list’s edit form?
And, do you want to display all the SharePoint Groups and all the members in the specific SharePoint Group that you select from the Group drop down list?
Per my knowledge, we can add two new Task Form Fields to display the “Assigned To” column’s value of the current task, and the Approval Task Process’s Participant Groups, however, we cannot get all the SharePoint Groups in the workflow tasks list’s edit
form using SharePoint Designer 2010.
To implement it, please follow the steps as below.
Click on the “Approval” of the action in the workflow, add two new Task Form Fields named “Assigned To Member”, “Member Group” with “Single line of text” type.
Click on “Change the behavior of a single task” in the “Customization”, add two “Set Task Field” actions in “Before a Task is Assigned” section as below:
Set Task Field ““Assigned To Member” to “Current Task: Assigned To” with “Display Name”, Set Task Field “Member Group” to “Task Process: Participant List” with “Display Names, Semicolon Delimited”.
3. Publish the workflow and test if it works in your environment.
Then, the result is shown as below:

Editing plug-in settings on the fly...

OK, so I'm starting to get used to this program, starting to grasp the automation. Now, I've been able to save settings onto plugins where I want the plugin set to at certain points. Is there a way for me to, say, instantly set the automation to match a particular setting? As in, change the settings of the plugin from one setting to another on the fly during the playback, without having to set each automation bit seperately?

I just write that a couple of timeson other posts, here's once more:
Open the plug-in, on channel strip change the off or read to TOUCH,
press play and press (you can bring down the tempo, just to get more time on your moves) Bypass button (on plug-in) (ORANGE in every area you don't need it) click on it again (GRAY in the areas you want the effect)
stop change to READ and the automation's done.
You can do this with every parameter too, in your case it's probably the best solution, every touch on the plug-in slider will write a different automation, and you can recall it from the menu, the best way to do it in my advive if you have several slides too change is do it in loop mode and every time (pass) you deal with one.

Clean, Lean & Mean Editing Machine - One Workflow

Many people run low on System Resources, while editing. Often, this is because they have a lot of other programs and Processes loaded, running and sapping their Resources. Here is how I handle these programs and Processes, to get the most out of my computers.
The first thing that I do, before I do any editing, is clean out my system, using MSCONFIG to eliminate all unnecessary programs and Processes at boot. These are things like MS Messenger, iTunes Helper, Bonjour Services (I do need this for one progarm on my laptop, so I keep it there), and the like. These are little things that are usually installed by the OS, other programs, or the folk, who build the machine. Unless subsequent installs add this sort of stuff back, this is a one-shot deal. I do this, when I take delivery of any new computer, and check carefully, should I install, or update anything.
Next, I manually Exit from my AV, spyware sweepers and pop-up blockers. The reason that I do this manually is that most of these programs are designed to not let themselves be shut down by any software, as many Trojans will attempt to do this, so they can do their nefarious work undetected.
Last, I run a little utility, called EndItAll2, to then shut down all unnecessary programs and Processes (on a session basis, and not permanently, like MSCONFIG), prior to editing.
This gets my machine in as lean, clean and mean a status, as I can. Then, I edit.

You guys must be super intellegent. Sorry but I dont understand any of that stuff and if I muck with it I am only sure of one thing,
I will stuff up my system. All I want to do is speed up my editing of video, which I am now doing with an ancient computer with premier CS3.
It was already getting slower and slower and crashing often, but is still four times faster than this beautiful, latest, fastest piece of junk I am now on.
Gosh, you know the curser on this page cant even keep up with my typing, have to keep going back and inserting missed letters.
trouble is there doesn't seem to be a computer tech in New Zealand that knows anything about video editing programs. So I spend my time trying to decifer stuff thats way over my head on these forums.
Thanks to you all for your advice and help. Maybe the penny will drop one day. I will not give up, my income depends on it.

Child form editing when approval workflow is triggered in OIM 9i

            I am working with oim 9i.I wanted to know if there is any way to prevent editing of child form once it is submitted for approval.
            I have a object form with a child form attached.
            I have these forms attached to a resource object.
            It has approval task with 3 levels of approval.
            When user requests for the resource object, he has to fill the object form and child form has to be filled by approvers.
            But user is able to fill child form also.
            Also after 1st approval is complete.The requester is still able to edit child form.
            The requester is allowed to edit child form till last approver approves.
           In Resource Object and form Object administrator i have added group as- SYSTEM Administrators.
           HOW to PREVENT requester from adding data in child form once approval is triggered..
           PLEASE help.

I am a newbie and wanted to know how to call this process task adapter as i currently have entity adapter on POST-insert on child form which identifies that there is some update..So does that means through entity adapter i need to call the process task of a approval process?
Also is it possible to get the value of user who updated the child form as soon as it is updated?
On post-insert adapter when i try to get the value of "formupdate by" whenever it is triggered it gives me the previous "update by" and not the current "update by" value?
Does the database get updated later or am i doin somethng wrong,beacuse if it is a post-insert i should get values of "latest update by" on the form?

Auto Edit Plug-in

Hi,
Has anyone written a plug-in that will randomly take bits of clips from all the bins and place them on a timeline creating a short promo?
My editors have been asking for this for years every time they are ask to make a promo out of material not shot for something else.

Call me a skeptic.
I can't see a plugin using cryptic information and being able to produce a promo that captures a viewers attention and conveys a compelling reason to tune in and watch.
Even a simple 10 second promo for Godzilla versus the Sea Monster takes thought.

It is normal that you get this errror message "Park document blocked xxxxxx" if you try to park a document for which "Release necessary" is set but "Released" flag is not set.
Normally in workflow the "Released" flag is set in a background step right before the workflow posts the documents.

There is no quick and dirty way to achieve that. Well, there is one solution: get more and bigger disks. AVCHD is a long GOP format, so changing even a single frame requires re-encoding of the complete clip, causing a generation loss and thus costs you quality. Stay away from QuiRckTime as much as possible, since it is a 32 bit application, that defeats the 64 bit nature of PR.

- The workflow is still fail even I assign "full control" to my users group "test\group" – at Site Collection level.
Surprisingly, I have successfully found a solution for this error message. However, I still have some points that I do not clearly understand. Let's start with my solution first.
Solution:
*** i. Assign permission policy at Web Application level – Central Admin site ***
1. Central Administration ==> Application management
==> Manage Web application
2. Go to "permission policy", then create a new permission level. This permission level contains all "edit item" permission.
3. Select "user policy", then I assign it directly to my user account: test\user1.
*** ii. Assign "edit item" permission at Site Collection level ***
1. Site Setting ==> Site permission
2. Assign "Edit" permission to my test\group.
(Actually I removed all permissions of my user group at Site Collection level. It seem my group has inherited permission from Web Application level, is that correct? )
*** iii. Create a new list item and workflow runs ……. ***
==> My question is:
1. Why I cannot assign permission to my users group - "test\group" -
at "Web Application" level? Instead I have to assign permission policy for each users, one by one?
2. Could you please let me know how to collect full detail error message of workflow status?

Point 1: Yes my 2 service: user profile & profile sync service are running. I performed "full synchronization" as well. Actually i've tried 3 another action plans before coming up with the solution i posted:

Point 2:
- Yes my user had Edit permission at workflow task list + list affected by workflow.
I have just remove all permissions of my user at "Site Collection" level. However, when i show my user permissions at my workflow task list and my users still have "Edit" Permission ( assigned at Web Application level. These permissions
still exist even after my workflow task list stop inheriting permission).
==> the problems probably belongs to "permission" at "Site Collection level". It seems "permission level at my Site Collection does not work". All users accounts are also suffer from the same issues except farm admin account
( which has full control at Web Application level).
I would appreciate if your guys can guide me how to make "permission" at my "Site Collection level" work again?
