Editing Preference file in LightRoom 1.4

Hi
I have duplicate lrcat files over several partitions. With experience & a number of mistakes, when I open "File/Open Recent" I have several duplicate options, of which only one is current.
To avoid confusion, I would like to eliminate the duplicates. I have found the "agprefs" file, and have opened it in Window's Notepad. I just would like confirmation that I can delete one or more of the following lines.
"memoryCardDetectionAction = "ImportBehavior_ShowImportDialog",
noAutomaticallyCheckUpdates = false,
noSplashScreenOnStartup = true,
onePixelFudge = true,
photoBinSize = 150,
photoshopEditingFormat = "TIFF_ZIP_16_ProPhotoRGB",

printModule_showExtras = true,
printModule_showImageDimensions = false,
printModule_showPageBleed = true,

Also How can I change the "lrcat" file name to make it more identifiable? Ex. instead of "Testing.lrcat" chane it to "Landscapes.lrcat"
Thanks , any help will be appreciated

It won't.
But if you download the free DNG Converter and run it on your D3x files you will be able to use then in 1.4.
Having said that you will benefit from 2.x's advances!

  • How to edit raw files in lightroom?

    when editing raw files in  lightroom the only extra option I seem to get is more control over white balance.  Am I missing something?  is there a way to open raw files in camera raw (like in photoshop elements) or can the editing options I get for all photos raw(nef) and jpg work better on raw than on jpg?  I am a little confused by it...

    Lr uses Camera Raw internally for processing raw files.
    You create renditions by editing raw images in develop mode until you are satisfied, and then exporting those renditions.
    If you mean you want access to proprietary NEF settings placed in the raw image by the camera or Nikon software... this is not possible. You can mimic some of the settings with camera profiles and presets, but Lr (like most software) does not have (complete, unfettered, unencumbered) access to proprietary image details.  Adobe uses the public Nikon SDK to get access to the encrypted WB information.

  • Editing PSD file in Lightroom?

    I'm creating a PSD file for a client so she can edit the text in the document herself. I thought I read somewhere that PSD files can be edited in LR. I've never used LR, but just downloaded it to take a test drive, but can't figure out how to edit the document. Any tips?

    Lightroom works in a completely different way than Photoshop or other pixel editing programs. In order for you to edit that PSD file has to be imported into the Lightroom catalog. It might be to your advantage to just use Photoshop, if you have it, because understanding how Lightroom works is essential in order for you to be effective.
    If the PSD file has a text layer, you will not be able to access It separately using Lightroom. Lightroom does not use layers, and you cannot work with text like you do in Photoshop. I just believe, based on what you have told us, that Lightroom is probably not a good choice for this particular project.

  • After latest Photoshop CC update, I can no longer edit a raw file in Lightroom 4 as a smart object

    I updated PS this morning, since then I am no longer able to edit a file in LIghtroom 4 as a smart object in Photoshop CC. Photoshop will open, but after some time passes, Lightroom 4 gives an error that Photoshop cannot be launched. If I choose "edit in photoshop" from lightroom, instead of "edit as smart object", the file opens fine.

  • Lightroom won't ask how to edit a file when I select "edit in Photoshop CS6"

    Yesterday Lightroom suddenly stopped asking how I want the file edited when I select "edit in Photoshop".  I opens the file directly in Photoshop without asking do I want to "edit with Lightroom changes", "edit a copy", or "edit original".
    I've tried finding a setting to turn this on or off and found nothing.  I've tried shutting down.  I've even tried removing and reloading both Photoshop and Lightroom.  As far as I can tell it has defaulted to always opening with LR edits.
    I'm using Lightroom 5.3 and Photoshop CS6 extended version 13.0. I ran updates on both after reloading yesterday.  I'm using the Mac versions of the software.
    Please help!

    Is it possible that you've switched to using Raw (or DNG) files? There is a different process when using a Raw file versus using a rendered file such as Jpeg, Tiff, PSD....and it's only the latter file-types which will prompt the "Edit a copy, Edit original, etc" question. If the ACR levels are compatible (which they will be if your ACR plug-in for PS CS6 is up-to-date) then there will be NO question when using "Edit In...." on a Raw/DNG file, the file is rendered automatically in the background by Photoshop's ACR plug-in, when you then "Save" in PS the now-rendered file (Tiff or PSD, depending on your external editing preference setting) will appear back in Lightroom.

  • Problem with "Edit in Photoshop" and Lightroom 2.1 failing to import new file

    I am a new user to Lightroom, so I won't be surprised if the problem is at the dull end of the keyboard...
    I am working with Lightroom 2.1 (still in my 30-day free trial), Photoshop CS3 with ACR 4.6, on Windows XP (fully updated). My image files are mostly .cr2 files (canon raw).
    When I "edit with photoshop" in Lightroom, it fires up Photoshop and brings the file up for edit as expected. Photoshop shows the file name as something like _MG_2326.CR2, as (I presume) expected. When I'm done editing in Photoshop, and I save the file, Lightroom brings up a message "The file could not be imported because it could not be read." and "It may be an incompatible format." on a second line.
    If I synchronize the folder in Lightroom it picks up the save file without issue (though its not automatically stacked with the original).
    I have tried messing around with the different options in the preferences "external editing" tab -- file format, color space and bit depth (I can't imagine resolution would matter). No joy there.
    I have also tried setting photoshop up as the additional external editor and if I do that it works correctly. However, in this case, it makes a copy of the file before opening photoshop which slows things down a little.
    Is this a problem that anybody else has seen before? Any solutions or work-arounds?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    I'm back trying to sort this problem out (got distracted for a couple of days by trying to get my monitor calibrated).
    Rearranging the folder structure didn't help. But I now have a better organized catalog, so that's ok :)
    What I did find is that if I import files into lightroom using the "file/import photos from device", then I can edit them normally afterwards (that is, when I save the file in photoshop cs3, the new file gets picked up correctly by lightroom and gets correctly stacked with the original). This is true even if the new files get added into the same directory structure that I'm having troubles with.
    So it looks like the directory structure is a red herring. It looks like the problem is in the catalog, with the way that lightroom originally imported my files. I created my original catalog by allowing lightroom to read my elements 6 catalog.
    It seems that I have this edit problem with all catalog entries that were imported from elements 6, but I don't have any problem with catalog entries that lightroom brings in directly (either through "import photos from device" or by adding a new folder to the lightroom catalog).
    So right now it looks like there is a problem with the elements catalog conversion.
    Is this a problem that anybody else has seen? Any suggestions for getting around it?

  • Resetting (or 'Trashing') the Lightroom Preferences file

    Hi,
    in an effort to make the edit-in option in LR work, I found instructions that I need to reset the preference file for LR. I followed the following directions, see below.
    However, even with holding the option key down on my iMac, as directed, I cannot find the folder and file. I do not have a Library folder under my username, but only one under hard drive, and in there I can find com.adobe.photoshop files, but no LR file. Can anybody help me?

    Try making hidden folders and files visible temporarily following the steps described here Quickly Show/Hide Hidden Files on Mac OS X Mavericks & Yosemite | Ian Lunn - Front End Developer, it applies to Mavericks but I think is also valid for Yosemite (but not 100% sure). Please don't use a external drive when hidden folders and files are visible as there might be a bug with LR5.7.1 on Yosemite when they are visible (not fully sure).
    When you are done with the preferences, make hidden folders and files invisible again.

  • Lightroom 5.5 stops working when I try to Edit Preferences

    I installed Lightroom 5.5 a month back. I had no other versions of Lightroom on my computer before that. I have Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC on my machine. I want to add Noise Ninja standalone as an External editor and have tried to edit preferences. I use Windows 8.1 on my desktop. Every time I click on Edit->Preferences, Lightroom stops working and exits. I read the forum and once removed the Preferences file and restarted. The problem still continues. I am unable to find a solution.

    Thanks Geoff the Kiwi.  Did they forget to include those two DLLs in the installation package?
    Nope. Just to be clear, they are Microsoft DLLs which can be and are used by other applications, including Lightroom. In the majority of the "007b" cases that we came across on these forums it was determined that an application called iLivid was heavily implicated in corrupting these two DLLs and thus impacting Lightroom. So Adobe provided this "fix" which simply downloads "clean" versions of those two DLLs.

  • Is there a way to edit raw files from the Canon 5DMkIII in Lightroom 2?

    I rented a Canon 5DMkIII this past weekend and shot in RAW. I'm running Lightroom 2.7 on my laptop because I have a pre-Intel dual-G5 tower at home and can't run LR3 or LR4 on a pre-Intel chip machine and I tend to share my libraries across my laptop to my tower and back (so I need to be able to open the LR files on both machines, which is why I'm still using LR2 ... I know, I know, I need to upgrade but that's going to be a hefty investment!)... In the meantime, I'm wondering if there's a way to view/edit the raw files in Lightroom? They won't even import (I get the message upon import attempt: "Some import operations were not performed. (97)")... I know the information is there, though, because I used PhotoMechanic to do the initial sort of my images that I wanted to keep/edit. I see there's ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 6.7 (I think it is) that supports the 5DMkIII, but I'd prefer to edit across the board in Lightroom, it's so much faster. Is there something I can download to still edit my raw files in LR2? Or, do I have to buy the update and get LR4 if I want to edit my 5DMkIII RAW files? Thanks in advance for your help!!

    Support for the canon 5d Mk111 was introduced in LR 4, ACR 6.7 so you will have to use the Adobe DNG Converter 6.7 or later to convert the raw files to dng format before you can import and work with the files in LR 2. The converter is a free download from Adobe and is available at this link.

  • I have copied over my music file to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit Preferences has the right location

    I have copied over my music files to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit>Preferences has the right location?

    Select one of the tracks with a broken link, press ctrl-i to Get Info. Say No when iTunes asks if you would like to locate the track, then look at the Summary tab for the location expects to find the file in.
    Now try to locate the file in question. The two locations should give a clue as to what to do next.
    Here is an example with a file I've deliberately moved from the new layout to the old pre-iTunes 9 layout.
    This means iTunes is expecting to find the file at:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
    but it isn't there because I've moved it to:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
    which is where it would have lived back in iTunes 8 (though the media folder would have been called iTunes Music back then as well).
    If you can provide the expected and actual locations of a broken track I should be able to suggest the easiest way to resolve things.

  • When I am finished editing an image in Lightroom, what files or versions should I have in my database of images?

    When I am finished editing an image in Lightroom, what files should I have in my Library?  I start with a RAW file or a tiff scan from film. I label that "A" as the archived file. I make a virtual copy to work on in the Develop module. When I am done, I save a file as a Print file with dimensions of the print.  Since Lightroom is non-destructive, do I need to save any other versions?  For instance, in Photoshop since the crop is destructive,
    I edit an uncropped version and do the crop when I am working on the Print version.  What should I have for the most flexibility over time in Lightroom?
    I use Lightroom CC on a IMAC desktop.  My photos are on a separate hard drive and are also backed up offline.  Im running OSX10.9.4.

    You don't need to make a virtual copy before you edit the photo (this is optional, but most people don't bother as its extra work with little or no benefit). EXCEPTION: If you are doing multiple crops of the image, you would need virtual copies in that case, created after all other editing is completed.
    You can't "save" from Lightroom, you can "export". (It's a terminology thing) You would need to export a photo at the desired dimensions for printing, but there's no need to retain this exported photo, you can consider it temporary and delete it once the print has been made, knowing that you can always re-create it exactly from Lightroom if you need it.
    So to answer the question in your title, all you need to retain on your hard disk is your original image (and in the EXCEPTION case where you have multiple crops of the image, you would retain the multiple virtual copies in Lightroom).

  • Can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

    can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

    No. Lightroom 4.x will never be able to open Raw files from the D810.
    D810 support has only just been added to the RC version of Camera Raw 8.6. It is never retrospectively added into older versions.
    Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 RC for CC and CC 2014 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
    Adobe will probably add D810 support to the next version of Lightroom.
    Either way you'll have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 to be able to open D810 Raw files in Lightroom.
