Editing primary SMTP server crashes settings

I just set up my mom with her new iPhone and used a backup from a previous iphone. I have to set the password for the SMTP server for her email account but when I try to set it and click "Done" it crashes the Settings app every time. I cannot change anything within the primary SMTP server settings and get it to save because every time I hit "Done" it crashes. I can successfully add additional SMTP servers, and have set up one with the correct settings and have it turned on, but it doesn't work because the server is the same server specified in the primary.
How can I delete/change the primary SMTP server without it crashing?
All help is appreciated.

This probably means that your mail app data are corrupted. First, try resetting the phone by holding the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. The try to change the setting again. If it still fails, delete the Verizon account, Reset the phone again, and add the account back.

  • How do I change the primary SMTP server address on my iPhone DOT-MAC accoun

My original account smtp settings were for dot-mac. I am having ever increasing problems getting mail to send. I can find the settings for my primary SMTP server, but cannot edit or update them (currently smtp.mac.com), as they are all gray'd out and cannot be changed. I would like to update these settings to smpt.me.com. Is it necessary for me to delete this account in order to update the settings? That seems rather lame.

What did not work? You could not add an additional SMTP server? It does not matter what the primary is listed as....turn it off. Then turn on the additional server you added.
Better yet remove your .mac account and add it back as .me account.

  • How do i change primary smtp server?

How do I change my primary smtp server? I can delete all the old accounts I no longer use as email accounts, but the primary smtp server for the accounts I still use is still set as that for the old server. Not only is there nowhere to delete it, I can't even change it! There should at least be a button to take you to that page in the iOS6 settings somewhere easy to find, like IN the same place as where it is listed.
    Very annoying.

  • Cannot edit the smtp server list in Mail (Yosemite)

I am trying to edit the smtp server list in Mail.  I am running Yosemite on my MacBook Pro and always get this message.
"The servers marked with alert icons are in conflict and cannot be saved. Two servers cannot share the same address and authentication settings. Resolve the conflicts and try again."
There are no alert icons displayed!!! And I can not  delete a server.
I need to change some smtp-settings and cannot edit anything.
    Any ideas?

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application and try to recreate the account settings. If there's no change, quit again and put the item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item you moved.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Cannot edit outgoing SMTP server list in mail.app

Did a fresh install of Snow Leopard on a new 13" Macbook Pro unibody and was trying to add an IMAP email account. After failing to connect, I was trying to specify the outgoing port and realized that I could not edit the outgoing SMTP server list.
    Steps to reproduce error:
    1. Open mail.app
    2. Go to Mail > Preferences
    3. Select "Accounts" tab and select any mail account
    4. Select "Account Information" tab and click Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop down menu
    5. Select "Edit SMTP Server List..."
After that point the instead of opening the list of servers with their settings, it simply returns to the "Account Information" screen. I'm a bit confused because I've never had this happen before in any other version of mail app. I cannot edit or delete any outgoing mail server accounts because of this. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration.

This should not happen. Had you migrated back to the fresh install the Mail folder in User-Library? Or is this a clean setup? I would go to User-Library-Preferences, and drag the com.apple.mail.plist to the trash, then open Mail and try again.

  • HT4519 Unknown SMTP server and user name in my Ipods mail settings???

I have an ipod touch 4th and four yahoo email accounts set up on it. My primary smtp server is yahoo smtp. Now i recently checked my email account settings in "SETTINGS" and noticed that under my primary smtp server is a catagory called "Other SMTP Servers" and underneath that shows "smtp.aol.com". So, curiously, i clicked through to see the "Outgoing Mail Server" category which lists Smtp.aol.com as the host name and "on**********[email protected]" as the user name. Now I have used that user name with yahoo before but i do not have and aol account! And I certainly didn't add these settings myself. What could this mean??

    Hi,
I know that the SMTP server settings are correct as they work correctly for the work email account. The home account (that is not working) uses these same settings.
In the iPad OS when you go into the Mail settings and click through to the menus to get to the SMTP servers there is a primary smtp server specified this is globally used across all the mail accounts. As I say I know that my settings for this are correct as it works for the work account.
I have however taken your advice and confirmed with my service provider and re-entered all the smtp settings to this primary server and the iPad confirms that all the details are verified, however I still get the same problem with the work emails sending correctly and the home ones stuck in the outbox. To me it appears that the problem is not with logging onto the smtp server the problem is with the iPad actually sending the message to server.
    Any other suggestions?

  • How to Delete SMTP Server on iPhone/Can't Add Additional Servers

How do you delete the primary SMTP server. I'm on 2.2.1 My outgoing mail is not working and I figured since I'm a Mobile Me user I'll change the SMTP setting on the iPhone.
I can't add a new smtp server. I go into account info for my Mobile Me and select SMTP. I can't see how to delete the primary server and when I try to add server I enter smtp.mac.com then my user name and password. I see 3 check marks after I press Save. I says it verified. But it never shows up on the list. I have secondary server but I can't figure out how to delete that one. Its the ATT smtp server cwmx. All that info is ghosted yet it's not on my desktop account.
If synced Mobile Me but nothing changes.
Confused and I can't find any help on Apples website.

    I have the same problem.
Not sure, but I think the iPhone won't let you modify certain email settings of accounts created by syncing to your laptop or PC.
Delete the account on your iPhone and create it again manually (on the phone itself.)
    This worked for me.

  • With Mail 8.0, the SMTP server selection list has gone?!

    Hi,
I use one primary IMAP email account, but multiple addresses, and I have to send my emails using different SMTP servers, according to the email address domains. Now, before updating to OS X 10.10 Yosemite, in the New Mail window, there always was a "Send Using" SMTP server selector right next to the email address selector. Now that's gone, and I can't figure out how to bring it back.
So now I'm unable to send email using other than my primary domain address.
    Any ideas?
In fact, if someone could tell me how to directly assign a specific SMTP server to an email address (not to an email account! Remember: I have multiple addresses in one account) - that would be of great help, too.
    Thanks much in advance!

I too would like to have the option of being able to select which smtp server to use for each email. Often when I am at a client location I have to use my tethered cellphone for network connection and this requires a specific telco smtp server to be used. Currently now there is a wait while Mail tries a few times with the primary smtp server associated with the account (my normal provider I reach when at home on the broadband) and some indeterminate time later it decides to poll the next server on the list (the telco one). Once it has done this successfully once then further emails seem to get routed immediately to the current smtp server. But the first time each day is a lottery on how long it will take.

  • Using two gmail accounts in Mac Mail client, smtp server issue

I've set up two gmail accounts (one personal, one from my job) in Mac Mail. The personal account is set up via POP, the job account is IMAP. I receive mail into each account with no problem. However Mac Mail won't allow me to set up two separate smtp.gmail.com servers (one for each account). If I edit my SMTP server list and try to change either account individually, it changes BOTH accounts. So I can receive with no problem, but can only send mail from both accounts from ONE account (which ever one I've programed). Is there a way to set up two SMTP severs through gmail (one for each account)?

I have two separate ones set for password authentication to two different accounts.
In your smtp server list, how many are listed? If only one, click the add button and set it up for the other account.

  • I have multiple accounts using the same smtp server, I can only reply with one as the settings wont allow me 2 servers

I have tried to set my email to reply from my iphone 5 both of which use the same SMTP server. I can't change the settings on the others as it will only allow one mail account. Can I add multiple  with the same smtp?

I Am not using gmail I use seperate company for my mails both use the same smtp server. The problem is when I set my first account it them uses these details and passwords when I create the second account saying that the smtp server is already in use by the primary account. I therefor can't set the password.

You probably have changing settings disabled in Restrictions.

  • Mail error "Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator.Select a different outgoing mail server from the list"

The Mail application has suddenly started giving error:
"Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator.Select a different outgoing mail server from the list"
It was working fine till yesterday, suddenly it stopped. I have 3 email accounts configured here, 2 are on exchange servers and one yahoo. Connection verification works and shows all servers as green.
    Any inputs?

I had 3 accounts, 2 ms exchange accounts and 1 yahoo. After removal of yahoo, everything is back to normal.

the mailbox I set up has suddenly change the outgoing SMTP server to offline. Whatever I do I cannot edit it to become online

    Hello Jeba1969
Use Connection Doctor to see what is causing it to be offline, like a incorrect password or a different setting for authentication. Check out the article below to get a start on troubleshooting your issues with sending mail.
