Editing QuickTime movies that are 'Save-Disabled'.

Has anyone been able to extract audio / video from a compressed QuickTime movie that has 'Disable Save' enabled?
I lost the raw .avi movies for several videos, and, with the latest Purevoice/QT7.3 issues, I am in need of re-compressing those QuickTime movies.
Any ideas / suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

If you've set the cache to 100 MB's that all QuickTime will use.
You're going to have much bigger issues with such little free space on your drive. Why not buy a cheap external drive and move large folders like Music, Movies and Pictures to it.
iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie can all store their files on external drives.

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

Editing a movie that was already cut together without transcoding .h264 footage to proresslt. I want to transcode full clips that are used in the edit, but not any of the leftovers. Is there an efficient way to this?
I'm thinking I can convert the files with Compressor and place them in a new folder with their original file names (not sure how to get compressor to do this yet) and then do a major "Reconnect Clip" afterwards.
Not sure if there's a more efficient way to get all the clips in the timeline to compressor. I want the full files, not a sequence export. I can go through one clip and a time and add the master file. I'd rather not.
The more automated processes the better.
Thank you. I'm currently working so I don't have the time to scour the forums. Help or links to help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah Media reconnect can be an issue.
Will Media Manager convert files? Another thing I was thinking was to Media Manage the sequence out, copying all the used files to a new folder, and then running that through compressor. But it still leads to a massive reconnect. Fine tuning all those edits would be less involved than re-editing the whole thing, I hope.

  • Best Program for editing quicktime movies

What is the best program for editing quicktime movies.
For example, I have several quicktime movies in the 4:3 aspect ratio, but the video is ment to be 16:9 so there is black on the top and bottom. I want to be able to crop out the black and make the video file a true 16:9 wide screen video becuase my laptop has a widescreen 16:10 aspect ratio lcd. And when playing back these videos, you end up with a couple inches of black on the top and bottom, and right and left, so a lot of screen space get's waisted. The only programs I have found so far that can make a 16:9 quicktime video have not supported the H.264 format, and only stetch the video to 16:9 rather then croping it, so the black remains on the top and bottom and the aspect ratio is off and every one looks short and fat becuase it's not in its native aspect ratio correctly.
Does anyone have any advice on what program I should use?
Also, does anyone have any recomendatiosn for how to convert wmv files to quicktime / itunes videos? I have found one program that does so, but it comes out very blocky and the audio is out of sync with the video by a good five seconds.
    Thanks

MPEG Streamclip (free) can crop and Save As so you wouldn't need to add any new compression to the existing files.
The make a Windows version now (it used to be Mac only).
No tips on converting WMP files but you'll find dozens of solutions in the iPod Discussions pages.

  • HT201322 itunes 11.0.3 - in my iTunes library I can no longer see purchased TV shows and Movies that are not downloaded to my computer. also In my Itunes account i have no hidden TV shows or Movies

    I'm running itunes 11.0.3 -
in my iTunes library I can no longer see purchased TV shows and Movies that are not downloaded to my computer.
In my Itunes account i have no hidden TV shows or Movies
I used to be able to view all cloud and downloaded content.  I no longer can.

There used to be option to show items that are in the cloud in your library, but I can't find where that now is (unless it's been removed). You should be able to see what items that you can re-download via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (at the top right of that there should be a 'not on this computer' button)
Edit : Just seen your reply, though I don't appear to have that setting on mine.

  • Can not view movies that are in itunes on Apple TV

Not all movies that are listed in my itunes are visble on my Appkle Tv. They all [lay on itines ok ??? I have resynched to no avail ? why ? help

Possibly as they're not compatible (if purchased from iTunes store they should be, though some podcasts are too complex/hi-res).
    See:
    http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html
Basically you need h264 encoded at <5MBps with AAC audio at 720p 24fps or less (30fps will work at 960x540 or below).
Check the movies in the movie section of iTunes to ensure they're not unticked which will prevent them from syncing/streaming.
Also if AppleTv might be full and you're syncing ensure AppleTV summary tab in iTunes does not have 'Show only synced items' selected.

I have this issue too and want the same result, another feed suggests selecting the movie, going to get info, and changing this under options, but I suppose you have to do that movie by movie.
You can select all the movies you want and change them at once.

Can't open quicktime movie that I exported from FCP 5. Help!

    What arrow?
Have you tried opening the file in FCP?
If there is no error message and it will not play in QT7, it is quite possible the file is corrupted. You will need to go back to the original project and re-export the file.

  • HT203180 How can I delete old rental movies that are still on my iPad, but no longer viewable?

How can I delete old rental movies that are still on my iPad, but are no longer viewable because the rental has expired?

I have a similar problem.  The default answer on the web is to open Videos on your iPad, then touch and hold the movie you wish to delete, then tap the little cross that appears. Alternatively, you can connect to iTunes, select your device in the list, scroll down to the Rentals summary and delete from there.
I have a problem with both of these solutions!  The Video App on my iPad does not contain any video icons, just an option to browse my shared library, so I can't delete it from there... ANd in iTunes, the movie in the Rntals tab on my device summary is greyed out, so I can't do anything from there either.  But the movie is taking up 2.5 Gb....
Can someone please offer an alternative to resetting the device entirely?!

  • Can Apple TV access movies that are stored in Time Capsule?

Can Apple TV access movies that are stored in Time Capsule?

The Apple TV looks for iTunes, which is likely on your computer.
I know of no way to "tell" the Apple TV to look for anything. It is pre-programmed to look for iTunes, iPhoto, etc.

How do you easily find the movies that are on sale?  I can't seem to easily find any of the $9.99 HD movies or the $5- $6 non-HD movies.

  • Apple TV not showing movies that are in itunes library

I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro ("MBP") having come from a Windows machine. I have a lot of video content that is in DivX or similar format as that was the preferred format for me at the time.
In switching to the Mac, I simply opened up my existing files in Quicktime X and went save as "Movie". This enabled my previous content to be added into itunes. All the files work perfectly in front row on my MBP.
On purchasing the Apple TV, i thought all this content (as it was saved as .mov files) would be readable by the Apple TV. I have tried checking, unchecking boxes in itunes but to no avail, they just aren't visible on the Apple TV.
There are limitations on the data rates for the Apple TV and I am aware of that but the bulk of the movies I am talking about are actually TV shows from my DVD collection (The Wire as an example) that would struggle to be 480p at most.
If it can play it in Front Row, why can't it see the files and play them on Apple TV? Do i have seriously have to buy Quicktime 7 Pro just to get these files right?
Also, I hope the home sharing thing is shortlived, it's always been an issue. I'd rather open up my MBP and stream audio and video via Airplay to the Apple TV, that would suit me fine. Personally, I think the home menu structure on the Apple TV is pretty ugly, they could have done better than that (putting a highlighted box around menu titles is 1980's stuff).
    Any help appreciated.

FrontRow is far more capable than AppleTV in terms of codec support.
They really need to be in h264 format for AppleTV (MJPEG is also now supported but not really a good conversion otpion).
    Forget QT 7
Google Handbrake, run you original files through that using AppleTV preset and add to iTunes, you should be good to go.
Alternatively right click on a file in iTunes that doesn't play and choose 'crete AppleTV version', though that my take some time!

There are far worse interfaces out there, though I think the current one is a backwards step from 3.02 on 1st generation.

  • I am unable to view movies that are sent via Messages.

I cannot view movies sent to me in messages. I get a screen that looks like this:  MOV_6373.MOV.mov  QuickTime movie 1.2MB

What device are you trying to watch movies sent through messages on? If it's an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, try double-tapping the screen when it comes up with the movie name. If that doesn't work, try restarting your iPhone/iPod/iPad and turning off Wi-Fi or cellular data, depending on which one you're using, then turn it back on. Closing and reopening the messages app, or even all your apps, could help also. Keep in mind also that older iPhone models, like 3Gs, may not play movies sent through messages. If you're using a laptop and the messages app, I'd try the same things you would with an iPhone, but clicking instead of tapping of course. Those are the best suggestions I have, hope they help.

  • Quicktime Movies that Open in Safari eat up hard drive space. Howto Delete?

I have a Mac Book Pro. The hard drive space is minimal as you probably know. Whenever I open up a Quicktime Movie in Safari the movie will open in a new Safari window. Some of the movies are rather large trailers and what not. I notice that my hard drive space goes down with each movie I open. Where are these movies saved? How do i clear up this space after i'm done watching? I hate needing to delete other stuff to open up quicktime movies.
