Editing Quiz Review

Can anyone help? Once a quiz has been run you have the option tor eview your answers. When going through the review any incorrect answers are displayed in black boxes. Is there a way these black boxes can be removed as it really does not look very nice. Also there are 3 buttons during the quiz review but the Clear and Submit do nothing and as such are redundant. Can these buttons be removed? thanks for any advice/help

Hi there
Unfortunately there isn't much you can do aside from logging a feature request to ask for a change in a future version.
Some things are possible to change by exporting the Captivate to Flash. But I'm not sure these survive the trip. I don't use Flash, so can't really speak to that.
Cheers... Rick

  • Formatting the Quiz Review Area

Is there a way to re-format the font, background, size or any
other appearance aspects in the quiz review area? I know how to
change the messages presented in this area via the Quiz Manager,
but need help with changing the font size, etc.
Speedy reply appreciated - as this is the last touch to a
    project due tomorrow. Thanks!

Hi pewinggrim and welcome to our community
Unfortunately, there is very little you can do with this.
Pretty much what you see is what you get. Aside from the text, you
    can't really control formatting.
    Sorry... Rick

  • Next button only for quiz review

I searched, with no luck, for a way to only have the "next" button visible on quiz reviews.  I would like it hidden during the quiz, becuase I don't want back or skipping possible.  Also, hiding the playbar in the skin.
    Thanks,
    Brian

Jabir, why should you create an advanced action from that shared action? It will be always the same action that is applied, no need to create a shared action IMO? At least if you time that shape button for the rest of the project. If you want a shape button on each slide, the shared action has sense, because you have one parameter: the shape button. And in that case there is no need at all to create an advanced action from that shared action, just apply that shared action directly to the On Enter event of each question slide. It has the advantage over advanced actions that you don't have to create multiple advanced actions each with a different label, and seems also not to increment the filesize in the same way.
And moreover I think you should post a correct action: the system variable is not CpQuizReview mode but: cpInReviewMode and since it is a toggle, the possible values are 1 or 0, not 'one'. Above the preview of such an action.

  • Edit Quiz Format - Button Location

In Connect 6, how do you easily edit quiz questions without
messing up the functionality of the buttons?
When multiple choice answers extend more than one line, the
buttons do not line up properly next to the item. This makes it
difficult for users to determine which button goes with which
    answer.
By default, the clickable buttons are grouped with the answer
text. I tried ungrouping the two to edit the width of the text or
to move the location of the button up/down. When I regroup the
button and corresponding text, it seems that the button is no
    longer active.
Would love some tips on how to edit the quizzes without
    losing button functionality.
Also, any way to permanantly edit the appearance of the
submit/clear buttons so I don't have to copy/paste them into every
question? There should be a library of buttons to choose from...
    next version?
    Thanks!

you need to make the changes in the iWPopUpSlideshow.js which you find in under iweb.app/contents/recources/scripts/site
or every time after you have published the site you need to change in the appropriate iWPopUpSlideshow.js
    change the entry:
    baseURL="http://www.mac.com/1/slideshow/"
    to e.g.
    baseURL="http://www.yourdomain.com/slideshow/"
in the same file you will also find the strings for the controls like:
    controls,baseURL+'images/play.png','playbutton'
this means if you do not change this string you need to place the controls under:
    baseURL="http://www.yourdomain.com/slideshow/images/"

  • Captivate 5 quiz review not showing correct answers when loaded to LMS

Hello All. I would really appreciate some help please. Despite the quiz review working correctly when published, i.e. both 'your answer' and 'the correct answer' captions appear in the review, on loading to LMS the review caption does not show the 'the correct answer is' , but instead 'you did not answer this question completely'.
Any ideas why this should be the case? I've attached screen shots of my quiz preferences for completenes.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Janey

Do the same modules evidence this behaviour when published and played outside the LMS, e.g. from a web server or on your hard drive?
If not, it's possible that some setting in the LMS is over-riding what happens at playback.  You could try checking the box under LMS Customisation for Never Send Resume Data and see if that seems to make any difference.  If the LMS is maintaining a record of some previous attempt at the same module then turning off Resume Data might show that up.

  • Quiz review options

Hi... Is there a way to set the review questions option to review only the questions in the quiz (capitivate 5)...  I have a couple activities in the course that I used questions, but don't want the user to be able to review these.. I want to be able to review only the questions on the quiz... Does this make any sense?

One workaround you might be able to try is to use Conditional Advanced Actions to immediately skip any non-Quiz slides when doing a Quiz Review.
You'll need to have these Conditional Advanced Actions fire OnSlideEnter of any non-quiz slides to check the value of the System variable that tracks the number of quiz attempts. I usually only allow the user to Review Quiz once they have used up all their allowed quiz attempts (so that they don't use the Review Quiz to find out the answers BEFORE they finish all attempts).  So you can check that the number of attempts has been reached and then skip the slides as needed.
It will mean you need to get your hands dirty with Advanced Actions, but Lilybiri's blog has plenty of soap and water for that...

  • Acroread locks up when going to Edit - Preferences | Reviewing

    Reportd by Sitsofe Wheeler <[email protected]>.<br /><br />For details see:<br /><br />http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=382777

    Description of the problem:
When going to Edit -> Preferences and choosing Reviewing acroread will lock up.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Start acroread .
    2. Go to Edit -> Preferences .
    3. Click on Reviewing at the left.
    Expected results:
Reviewing category to be shown on the right.
    Actual results:
    acroread locks itself up indefinitely.
    How reproducible is this problem?
It is reproducible every time (seeming even with a clean profile).

Reproducible both on x86_64 and i386 (acroread is 32bit anyway
    on both platforms).

This is caused by deleting the libcurl.so.3.0.0 and using symlinks to
    libcurl.so.4.0.0:
    %elseif %suse_version >= 1030
    rm
    $RPM_BUILD_ROOT%INSTALL_DIR/Adobe/Reader8/Reader/intellinux/lib/lib{crypto,ssl,curl,gcc_s, stdc++}.so*

That's correct, as to the sybmols and data structures, there was no change.
Only the few curl_easy_setopt() options that nobody uses anyway got removed.
    E.g. Debian "cheats" by packaging a libcurl.so.3 -> libcurl.so.4 symlink, we
could do that too, either in the curl package or in acroread.rpm.

Apparently libcurl.so.3 and libcurl.so.4 are not as compatible as we
thought because keeping the libcurl.so.3.0.0 which comes with the
acroread tarball instead of creating symlinks to libcurl.so.4.0.0
    make this problem go away.

Even with the right version of libcurl it doesnt work.
With the right version of libcurl it is possible to
click on the Edit → Preferences → Reviewing category once.
    Then one sees:
    Shared Reviews
    Check for new comments:
Every 15 minutes when the document is open [ | ]
    Every 2 hours in the background [ | ]
    Show Review Tracker Alerts:
    Over a rolling window of 60 minutes [ | ]
    [Cancel] [ OK ]
Click on [Cancel] or [ OK ] and exit acroread.
    Restart acroread.
    Click on Edit → Preferences.
    Hangs already.
    ------- Comment #8 From Mike Fabian 2008-04-23 11:54:18 MST -------

After entering the Reviewing setup dialog once and exiting
acroread, there are two sockets in the configuration directory:
    mfabian@magellan:~$ ls .adobe/Acrobat/8.0/Synchronizer/
    Commands= adobesynchronizersLockObj-lock metadata/
    Notification= adobesynchronizersu80
    mfabian@magellan:~$
    After deleting these sockets
    rm .adobe/Acrobat/8.0/Synchronizer/{Commands,Notification}
one can enter the Edit → Preferences → Reviewing dialog again. But
only for one session, the problem reappears after the next restart of
acroead because the sockets are there again.

Therefore, using the libcurl.so.3.0.0 which comes with acroread
doesnt help all that much. Delays the hang somewhat but thats it.

The problem described in comment #7 and comment #8 happens
both on x86_64 and i386 platforms.

  • Quiz Review

    Hi there,
I have a quiz set up and when the user finishes it, whether they pass or fail, i want them to be able to review their answers but when they do, it goes back to the first question but there is no way for them to move on to the next question. . . any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Ian

Use the Skip button on question slides to navigate to the next question during Quiz Review. Tick this option for each question under Quiz Properties.
You can use a free widget to hide the Skip button during the quiz:

  • Quiz Review--how can I change/customize the buttons in CP7--now showing "back" and "skip"

    Hi,
I am using CP 7 and giving learners the opportunity to review their quiz questions. The review works fairly well, but the buttons at the bottom are not correct. Should say Back and Next or Continue. I don't see a master slide for this, like the Results master slide, where I can edit. Have not found anything useful yet under Object Preferences. Also would be nice to position them. Thanks.

I never show the Next button on a question slide, but drag it under the Clear button, so that it becomes only available during Preview. A skipped question cannot be answered anymore when coming back, it is only confusing. For the same reason I will rarely allow backward movement. Only with the option 'Submit All' it is possible to retake questions within the same Quiz attempt.

  • Adobe Captivate 5.5: Quiz Review for Correct and Uncorrect answers

    Hello,
While making a quiz on Captivate 5.5, I couldn't set a review for correct and uncorrect answers. This in order to explain the correct answer.
The review area only appears when the question is not answered. I would like to know how I can fix this or a simple trick to make text appear only when reviewing the question.
    Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum,
For Quizzes you can customize the immediate feedback by editing the Success/Failure captions. However for Review, if the user has given an incorrect answer the Text Caption has always the same content, it will indicate the given answer and the correct answer. Out of the box there is no possibility to adapt this Review message so that is more personalised for each question.
If you do not mind some more work, I blogged about customising the Review messages. Feel free to have a look:

  • Remove slide from quiz review/retry

    Hi there,
I have a course with some interactions and one drop-down select question and then there is a 25 question quiz at the end. I want to allow the user to retry the quiz but when I do, they get taken back to the drop-down question (even though report answers is not selected) and not to the first question of the 25 question quiz.
How can I make that earlier question slide separate and not be included in the "Retry" of the quiz at the end of my course?
    Thanks in advance

I just warned in another thread for that issue when you have questions that are not really included in the total score. Another issue is that some system variables will include those non-reported questions as well.
System variables in Captivate 8 - Captivate blog
The only workaround I have (you can find such an answer several times in the forum) is to create a conditional advanced (or shared) action that you trigger On Enter for the not-to-be included questions. If there is no possibility for the user to navigate in a non-linear way, using that action on the first of those non-reported question slides or interactions will be sufficient.
In that action you can use the quizzing system variable cpQuizInfoAttempts. As I explain in the table with vars (see link I offered) this variable is incremented when a new Quiz Attempt starts. The action will be something like:
IF cpQuizInfoAttempts is greater than 1
Jump to QuestReal1              where QuestReal1 is the first question of the real quiz, that has to be retaken
    ELSE
       Continue
The knowledge questions will also be reset, but I don't think that matters. Sorry, have to edit: dropdown interactions are reset when getting to a slide, not because Retake has been used on the score slide.

  • Editing Quiz Extremely Slow in cp2

I am using an Intel core duo pc and trying to build a quiz to
follow a few slides containing flash animations and narration. I am
able to create the slide, however moving things around on the stage
is exceptionally slow, whereas the other slides are still editable
at a reasonable speed. Any suggestions on how to speed this up?
    Thanks
    tt

Thank you for your suggestion. I will keep that information for future reference.
Later, as I worked with other photos in other albums, I found that iPhoto was working great in the other albums.
Then I remembered that the photos that set off the slow editing, I had done some minor editing in PhotoShop and then put them back into iPhoto. As I tried to crop these Photoshopped photos in iPhoto the extremely slow editing began. Technically, I don't know what happened, but they were incompatible.

  • Branching Quiz:  Review Quiz shows ALL questions and MaxScore includes too many scores

I'm using Captivate 6 (trial version) and I am testing out the branching capability following this tutorial ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-_Ja8vlZQw). The branching is working, but if I get to the end of my quiz and then select 'Review Quiz', it shows ALL the slides, including the ones that should NOT show up because the user selected options that didn't trigger them.
Also, it looks like the Maximum Score on the results slide includes the scores the user could get on slides they never see because of the branching :(.

It has been a while since I tested this, but it did work for me. I suppose you are using version 6.0.1.240? Because I had some issues before the patch. I will check again if you confirm the version. And you are sure to have checked Branch aware in Quiz Preferences?

  • Quiz Review Message

I am new to Captivate and I'm having trouble with my non
graded quiz inside my program. I can't get the review message for
the remediation if the answer was wrong to come up. I have know way
of knowing if I'm setting it up wrong or if there is a glitch in my
program. I found the tab for feedback like "Try Again" but I need a
larger space to put the information that contained the correct
answer. Can someone please run down the steps to making this work?
    Thanks!

In a survey question, (Captivate 3) there is an advanced
option for answer choices that allows you to check 'show feedback
message'. I believe this would allow you to provide as much
feedback as you wanted - and then the user can continue on to the
    next question/section.
I'm sure there are other ways to do this as well- it seems
Captivate always has about 4 ways to do 1 thing.

  • Unintentionally entering Quiz Review Mode

    Hi all.
I'm using Captivate CS5.0 as part of elearning suite 2.
I am outputting to a scorm compliant, AS3, Flash 10 file.
I am designing a module in which we have learning content (a narrated powerpoint), interspersed knowledge checks (not graded), and an end of lesson quiz (graded). The problem is that when one re-enters a question more than once, the question enters review mode.
This is a little difficult to describe, so I'm going to walk through of the flow of events:
    1) User enters question and then leaves question, either by getting it right or wrong.
    2) User navigates to a point before the question
    3) User takes the question again (doesn't matter if they get it right or wrong)
    4) User navigates to a point before the question and attempts to retake it again and it enters review mode:
I would prefer it if the users could take the question as many times as they want without entering review mode. I'd be happy to disable review mode completely, or to keep it in, but only enter review mode if my participants click the button on the very last slide.
Any recommendations, suggestions, what have you, would be appreciated!

You've tripped over the Quiz Scope issue.  This has been explained many times on this forum.  If your user enters Quiz Scope (starting at the first scored object) and then leaves it again, the quiz is frozen and they get Review Mode.
The solution: Just place a scored button on the first or second slide of your project to extend the quiz scope.
