Editing Slide Length

Hi All,
I am currently using Captivate 3 and have recorded a
demonstration. I am looking to edit one of the recorded slides,
specifically, wanting to cut out the first and last 2 seconds of
the slide. I have not seen any tools within Captivate to do this. I
have looked at
FMR
but am looking for an alternative solution, since i recorded in
demonstration mode.
If anyone has any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate
it.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Carrie
This should be super simple. See the slide over in the Film
strip area that runs up and down the left side of Captivate? Try
double-clicking it. Or right-click it and choose Properties. Either
way, you should see the properties dialog. On the properties dialog
you should see a field labeled "Display Time". Try specifying the
total slide display time there.
There is a good chance that you won't be able to actually do
this. This is because you may have objects on the slide that are
preventing a shorter display time. In that case, you will need to
adjust the display time for the objects so that it is shorter. Once
you do that, you may then adjust total slide display time.
From what I'm seeing, I would say you could benefit from a
Captivate class. You may wish to consider one. There are training
providers you may find that offer these. I also offer them myself
if you are interested.
Hopefully this helped... Rick

  • It will not let me edit the quiz result slides length.

I need to edit the length of time that the quiz results page is on the screen. It will not let me edit it. Also the continue button does not work.

The Quiz Results slide will always pause and there's no way to prevent that.  Look at its timeline and you can see a faint vertical line that indicates the pause point.  You can use your mouse to move this sideways and delay the pause untill objects enter the timeline.  But the rest of the slide beyond that pause point will only play once you click the Continue button.  If you have set a very long duration for the Quiz Results slide, then once you click Continue, what you see as the Continue button not working could just be the timeline continuing to play until it reaches the end of the slide.  Watch the scrub bar on the playback bar to see if it's moving.
Once the slide is paused the user has to click one of the buttons on that slide to move elsewhere.  If your Continue button is not working, the usual reason is that you have the Quiz > Settings > Required option set to something that will prevent the learner from moving beyond the Quiz Results slide until they fulfil some kind of requirement (e.g. answer all questions or pass the quiz).  So check that setting.

  • Can I auto adjust the slide length to match my music length?

Can I auto adjust the slide length to match my music length?

There is no way to automatically do this, but if you have a calculator, you can figure it out.
If you are NTSC (USA), figure 30 frames per second. For PAL (Europe) figure 25 frames per second.
So here is an example in NTSC. Say your music is 3:31, this is equal to 211 seconds or 6330 frames.
If your slideshow has 155 slides, then each slide should last about 41 frames or 1 second and 11 frames.
You can change the duration of the slides to 1:11 and apply to all slides.
(Note: To edit at the frame level, go into iMovie Preferences and choose to display time as hhL:mm:ss:frames)

  • How do you create a smart album so that you can look at and edit slide show fashion instead of one at a time?

Is the Apple program always this convoluted every time something new is rolled out to roll over someone?

Sorry but I have no idea what you're asking. What s "look and edit slide show fashion"? Where does a Smart Album fit into that? You know you can move from shot to shot using the arrow keys, right?

  • Can't edit slide imported from PowerPoint in Cap 5.5

Hi - I'm running Windows XP.  I've created a new project from a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation (imported .ppt file, although it may have been originally created as pptx).  For the Advance Slide option I selected Automatically, and I unchecked the Linked checkbox.  I have successfully imported additional PPT slides into the project file, and I have been able to use the text to speech conversion option to create audio narration for several slides, so the project file seems to be working as usual, and is not overly large (only about 6 mb).  I can also open the temporary PPT editing environment and make changes to an imported slide by using right-click and selecting Edit with Microsoft PowerPoint/Edit Slide.  But after I click the Save button in the temporary editing window, I never return to the Captivate project file window - Captivate hangs up.  I've waited as long as ten minutes before using Task Manager to end the process.  Does anyone have any thoughts about what can cause this, and/or what I am doing wrong?  I have already uninstalled a trial version of Articulate (before uninstalling it, I was not able to import additional PPT slides into my project, but uninstalling didn't fix the editing issue).  I suppose I could work around this problem by importing corrected slides into the project file and deleting the originals I'm replacing, but I'd like to be able to get this to work right if possible.  Thanks.

I didn't use it because of comments I've read by developers who've had problems with the Linked function.  You don't need to select the Linked function to edit an imported slide in Captivate, though, do you?  I thought unlinked slides were imported into the project library, and that you can edit them there.  Have I misunderstood how this works?

  • Captivate 6 - Trying to Edit Slide in PowerPoint

OK - so this problem just started for me.  I used to be able to simply edit slides with Adobe Captivate by clicking "edit slide in powerpoint" - it seems like some add in got disabled?  Does anyone know how I can enable this feature again? See screenshot below.

    Well....
Hmmm, reinstall? Does the same thing happen if you create a different project based on a PPT import?

  • Slide Length

I'm trying to assist a business partner that hosts his Captivate eLearning in his LMS.  He stated that his users are having severe latency issues and the LMS provider indicated that the problem occurs because the files are 'reading' from slide 1 during every slide transition.  Sounds strange to me but he made it sound like that if a student was on slide 5, the LMS was returning to slide 1 through 4 and then 5.
I asked to look at his raw CP file and I think part of the problem may be that each of his slides in the 22 slide program (Captivate 3.0) is 3600 seconds in length!!!  Yikes, I told him mine are nearly always 6 seconds long.
I recall reading something in the forums about slide length but the 'Search Forums' function isn't working and I can't seem to find it.  Do you experts believe the slide length is the issue?  In addition, he has heavy text laden slides and used TCBs for his narratives.  There are tons of click boxes and TCBs on his slides.
    Your thoughts?  Chuck

    Hi there
I cannot fathom why anyone would need a slide timed that long! Like you, my slides seldom exceed perhaps 7 to 10 seconds tops!
I think that is quite likely the issue.

  • Edit slide audio stops on play

All of a sudden, Captivate does not want to play audio for me in the Edit Slide Audio tool. Every time I click play the red bar jumps forward about half a second and stops. Anyone seen this before? It was working fine this morning, but now this is happening in every project I open.
    I have tried:
    - Deleting the preferences folder
    - Running as administrator
    - Different projects/kinds of projects
    Version 6.0.1.240 on Windows.

Is this after you published to a server? If so, can you try
saving to your local computer to see if it does the same thing.
Also, if you published to a server, you might try closing all
your Internet-based apps (other IE/Netscape windows, Outlook,
Weather Bug) and see if it's the Internet connection to the server.
Let us know how it goes...

  • Keynote Edit Slide - Selecting a slide past 10

    Hello
I have been experiencing an issue with the Latest Version of Keynote running on Yosemite Beta ( asking this question to determine if I need to install on another Mavericks machine)
I have been creating a Presentation with multiple links to different slides, but once i get past 10 slides in my presentation it wont allow me to select any slide past 10 from the Edit Link box.
Even if i type the slide number in (11/12/13 etc) it automatically defaults back to 10.
Thanks for any help you guys may give <3

This must be an issue with Yosemite Beta as Mavericks works as it should:

  • Unable to edit slide properties - Edit is dimmed

Can anybody clue me in to why my Edit button would be dimmed? None of the slides are locked.  By clicking on 'Select All', the Edit button activates, but of course then I can only edit all slides -
Can someone tell me how to remove media from a slide if I can't get to the Properties of the slide??
This is driving me nuts - why can't I edit properties of slides?
    Attached a screenshot.
    Thanks for the vent

    Poregon,
    That's okay...venting is good.
After looking at your screen shot, I'm wondering how you ended up w/ the Edit button at all.  By default, the Slide Manager dialog box should have only showed the "Select All" button...and then, and ONLY then, the Edit button would have appeared.  And for what its worth, the default functionality of the Slide Manager is to provide slide-by-slide adjustment to it's properties such as setting the slide title, advancing by user and locking a slide, just to name a few.
The Edit button (once you've selected more than one slide) will only allow you to modify the presenter's info, lock slide and advance by user options, so it's pretty restricted in terms of the parameters you can set over multiple slides.
And unless I'm completely wrong, as far as "removing media from a slide" is concerned, that's not something the Slide Manager is capable of doing.
What you're seeing in the listing of multimedia assets in the Slide Manager dialog box is simply a visual feedback element; meaning, that the Slide Manager is just visually identifying the kinds of things that your slides are using....like audio, animation and flash files.  But if you want to manage those assets, you need to look in the appropriate places...like the Edit Audio or Edit Flash dialog boxes.  In order to eliminate a flash file, all you have to do is go to the slide where the flash file exists and simply delete it from the slide.  Same thing goes for animations; and since those are PowerPoint items, that's a simple matter of eliminating any custom animation applied to objects and elements on your slide(s).  As for deleting audio, that's slightly tricker, because you have to use the Edit Audio dialog box....and from there you can cut audio or replace an audio segment with silence.  In a worst-case scenario, you might find yourself having to delete the slide that contains audio you want to eliminate...only to recreate that same slide, so that you end up with a slide that doesn't contain any audio at all.
    Hope that helps!

  • Editing Slide Names in TOC

I'm using Cap5 with the most recent patch installed. I've added lables to my slides, yet when they appear in the TOC, they only display as "slide 1", etc. I had to do some "creative editing" with some recorded slides so the numbering is rather odd (slide 1, slide 2, slide 12, slide 22, slide 3). I was certain I'd recently seen a tip on how to edit the slide names within the TOC but for the life of me, I can't find it. Does anyone know how to change the slide titles?
    Krista

    Hello Krista,
I think you added the TOC before you labeled the slides, right?
Use the small button (see screenshot, highlighted) to Reset the TOC. The slide labels will replace the current default names.

  • Film Strip does not match Edit slide

    Hi
The filmstrip does not match the slide I am editing.
    I am on 8.0.1.242
I did NOT delete the Elearning resource files at update (as per update instructions - which of course no one actually reads :-)  ) but have done so since.
I have saved and reopened the file a couple of time without success.
Slides have been copied back and forth to a question pool a couple of times.
This issue is on multiple slides.  I can live with it but worry it might lead to bigger (not better) things.
Interestingly the surround in the filmstrip is BLUE whereas a post on here says only BLACK is possible
    Thanks
    Andy

I see similar issues as well, they appeared with CP8, do not remember having them in CP7.
Was too late, but would have suggested to do a Refresh workspace, which would probably have solved that as well, maybe you can give it a try next time? I"m not sure if you are on CP8, but if you are you are not using the newbie UI. Maybe that is the reason, because I'm not using that newbie thing neither, love the possibility to float panels and switch workspaces too much.

  • Formatting Error When Editing Pause Length

Okay, so I build a lot of Workflows based on relative time, so one action takes place, then say 1 a minute later another will start. Perhaps sounds a little odd but works great for the things I need it for.
Until I upgraded to Leopard that is. Now every time I go to edit the Pause length I get a pop-up saying "Formatting error." with the option to either say "Ok" or "Undo edit", but really neither are that helpful.
After some intensive searching I can't seem to find any other mention of the error in either support documentation or on any web forums. I seem to be the only one experiencing this problem.

One of the core Apple values from many years ago, and which you would think would still be important: empathy for the user.
But I'll gladly stop using the word "right" and instead use your word "lazy."  I'm glad they got unlazy for Lion as you say (but I'm not upgrading to the latest OS version anymore - been burned too many times with what got broken - I'll wait 'til I buy a new machine, which will be as long from now as I can make it.  Oh, and yes this is my miniscule revenge for those OS-upgrade-brokennesses, a paragraph or two of grousing - and I feel it's my "right.")
I've fooled with Applescript a couple of times years ago, and thanks for letting me know it's pretty simple, but I still have to figure it out how simple it is, and that's a pain.  But I have a better solution for what I'm doing, so thanks anyway.

  • How to edit slide names in TOC

    Hi,
How can I edit the slide names in my TOC? Slide 1, 2, 3, etc is not very informative. I have gone into slide properties and added labels, but that has not updated the TOC slide names.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi there
Perhaps try clicking the Reset TOC button?
Click Project > Table of Contents.
    Click the Reset TOC button.
Click the image below to view at full size.
