Editing songs in iTunes

I was just wondering if there was a way to remove all the songs with an exclamation mark next to them on itunes instead of manually removing each one.
Also, I was wondering if there was a way for itunes to detect duplicate songs and to automatically delete them also.
Please help me out!
Thanks

Thank you guys as well.

I just want to edit songs from itunes into a soundtrack for a slideshow but GB won't let me save it as an archive so the end result is very tinny. Help!

to Itunes as a compressed file
Try to save to iTunes uncompressed - if you uncheck the "compress" option, the file will be exported in aiff-format, CD quality. The file size will be larger, but your slideshow will have a better soundtrack.

  • Can't delete or edit songs on iTunes

Hi Today I wanted to delete some songs from my iPhone but I can't. I tried to press delete on my keyboard or chose delete from the list by right clicking on the song. I also can't edit songs that are already on my iPhone. How can I fix that ?
    Thanks

You can make a completely new library from these directions
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.1/en/15502.html
You have to press AND HOLD the shift key.
As for why some songs won't re-add to itunes, maybe the MP3 headers are causing it. iTunes 7 and later has gotten really picky about them. Here's a good web link on that:

  • Manually Edit Songs On iTunes

    Hey,
Is there a way to change the setting to where I can Manually Edit Songs for when I upload my iPod, without having to connect the iPod to the computer?
I had a problem where my entire Library got erased, but all those songs are still on my iPod, so if I were to connect it to the computer it would automatically begin to upload the current library but in doing so it would then empty out everything I have on my iPod. So to avoid that I was told I need to change the setting to where I can manually control the updates. But the only way I know how to do that is by connecting the ipod then going to preferences and doing it there... the problem with that is if I connected my ipod right now it would automatically update the current library which is empty, thus it would erase everything I still have.

yea sorry about that...I hesitated on writing that opening paragraph because it might cause some confusion ....
    ok...
I would rather have it updated automatically as soon as I connect my iPod... unfortunately I cannot. My library got erased and if I were to connect the iPod now (since its still set to auto update) it would clear everything I have on my iPod now. So, what I was told to do was set the "update iPod" to manual so if I wanted to upload anything new I would have to do it myself. My problem is I only know the way to set it to manual by connecting the iPod then going to Edit > Preferences and doing it from there ..but again I need to avoid changing the setting by connecting my ipod at first ...i need to change it to manual then... connect the iPod. Does anyone know how I can do that.
Thanks in Advance I really Appreciate this..

  • Is there a way to edit songs in itunes?

I am working on creating a dvd and am making slideshows of pictures from iphoto. I only want to use a portion of a song I have in itunes. Is there a way to edit the music? If so, how?
    Thanks

+"I only want to use a portion of a song I have in itunes."+
Go into Get Info > Options and set the Start and Stop times where you want them, then OK. Then, assuming it is an unprotected file, use the "Convert Selection to XXX" to create a new shorter file that only consists of the section you want.
You can either keep or delete the original (longer) file. If you are keeping it, you may want to go back into it and remove the Start and Stop.

  • Can't import edited song from iTunes to iPhoto

    Hi,
I've created a slideshow in iPhoto and a playlist in iTunes to go with the slideshow. I shortened one of the songs in the playlist from 4.5 minutes to 1.5 minutes (file-get info-options). Within iTunes the song is shortened but when I import the playlist to iPhoto the song reverts back to its original length. I realise there is a workaround using iDVD (when I import the song into iDVD it stays at 1.5 minutes unlike iPhoto) but it means I have to redo the whole slideshow again which I'd prefer to avoid.
Has anyone any suggestions how to shorten a song for a slideshow within iPhoto?

I don't build slide shows, so not sure how hard it is to do in iDVD, but you can burn a song to CD and then rip it back into iTunes. Then you can edit the song in Garage Band. You might want to do this with a number of songs that you might use in one sitting, as it's pretty tedious.
One other thought: check if Amazon has the mp3 of the same song. The content there is not protected (I think the music producers cut that deal just to stick it to Apple) and is $0.99 per song like on iTunes. Might be worth another buck to avoid all this hassle. iTunes is easier to search and buy from (IMO) and has a better selection, but you might get lucky at Amazon. I've ended up buying the same song again at Amazon just for this reason.

  • Is it possible to edit songs in iTunes?

Is there a way to shorten music to eliminate the speaking portion (eg spoken intro) in songs without using garageband?
    Thank you.

What you need to do is :
    1. Amend the Start time (see above)
    2. Go into iTunes Preferences and in General > Import Settings > Check Settings..., make sure the setting is the same as the track in question. Change it if necessary (you don't want a compressed copy).
    3. Go back to your Library and highlight the track.
    -   In Advanced, click 'Create XXX Version' (where XXX is your Import setting)
    -   wait until iTunes has created a new version of the track which will now start at the new time (i.e. the intro will be DELETED)
    4. Delete the original if you want. Highlight it and click Command-backspace.

  • Editing songs from iTUnes Music Store

Does anyone know why some MPEG4 protected AAC audio tracks purchased from the iTunes Music Store are editable while others aren't?
Since they are in the same format they should behave in the same way, I should think.
    Thanks in advance.

The only protected iTMS purchases that I cannot edit part of the id3 tag is on the TV Shows. Other wise I can edit the tag as I chose. As to why one cannot edit the tag on certain parts I have not idea. I would imagiine that in some cases it is due to DRM.
Not much of an answer. What part of the tag can you not edit? What kind of file is it?

  • Editing songs for garage band 08 using itunes. and how to record it to a cd

i'm new to the mac. and tryed to use garageband 08 i was able to edit a few songs using itunes. but how am i able to put it on a cd. and how can i delete the others that i started. also when editing songs from itunes what version of garageband is needed magic garageband or podcast ?

Garageband is not a audio editor (although it can be used for some editing) it is a multitrack recording studio with a few extras thrown in.
Making playlist and burning CD can all be done in itunes.

  • When I edit a song in itunes (i.e change the year) on purchased songs, the next time I return to itunes, the information has reverted back to the original information. How can I change that?

When I edit a song in itunes (i.e change the year) on purchased songs, the next time I return to itunes, the information has reverted back to the original information. How can I change that?
When I purchase ITunes music, and it is a song from a Greatest Hits album, the Year of the song shows the year the CD was released and not the year the song was released (i.e. a song may be from 1986, but the Greatest Hits album was released in 1999, so my songs in ITunes show 1999).    So, I go into each of those songs and change it to the year that I want to be displayed. As long as I don't exit out of ITunes, it will show the year that I changed it to (i.e. the 1986 year in this case). But if I exit out of ITunes and then return to ITunes, the year reverts back to 1999. The same happens if I change the genre of a song from, say 'Pop' to 'Alternative', it will revert back the next time I log in.
Oddly enough, as soon as I right-click on that song to change it back, the year/genre that I had entered returns.
How can I make it so my changes are permanently displayed as I want them?  This is pretty annoying when I try to find a song on my Ipod under a certain genre, but it doesn't appear in that genre because the incorrect information gets synched to the Ipod.

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:
Then exit iTunes and open it up again.  Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match).  If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

  • Can No Longer Edit Song Meta Data In Latest iTunes 11.1???

I just discovered that since the update to version 11.1 I can no longer manually edit the meta data by using the Show info function, all options are greyed out. For instance I can no longer adjust the volume level on a song nor can I edit the fields for song title and artist tec. There is also no longer any tab for album art when using the Show Info function on a song that has no album cover art. On songs that already have an album cover there will be an album art tab but the options there are all greyed out so I can not change the album cover art if I wanted too. This really *****, I can no longer edit album cover art for songs that have another cover already and I can not add any cover picture at all for songs that have no cover art (unless I manage to get the cover from the iTunes store but that is very often not successfull).
Another bug I found is that I can no longer add any video file to my playlists.
So this new update really ***** for me and have ruined my itunes experience.
Do anyone else in here have the same problem?
I really hope Apple will fix these bugs as soon as possible!

I think I finally found a solution to this problem. It appears that for some reason, some songs you download will maintain write protection that the original owner had set on his/hers computer. In my case for this Ellie Goulding album that I had problem with, it turned out my friend who gave it to me had some of the songs stored on his iPad and that caused the files to become write protected it seems, and this write protection was transfered over to my PC. To solve this issue, everytime you encounter a song in iTunes that you can not edit just right click it and select Show/View In Explorer, that will take you to the storage location of the file in question. Now right click the song and select Properties and see if it is write protected, if it is then just uncheck that option and click ok. Now you should be able to edit the meta data for that song again. So it appears this is not a bug in iTunes but rather a write protection issue.

  • How can you edit a song in iTunes so that you can separate the part I want?

Some songs have LONG intros I'd like to edit out. For example, Elton John's Funeral for a friend/Love Lies Bleeding is only available as one track.
How can I edit out the FFAF part? (at least for the version I sync to my ipod.

    Hey there,
One option is to change the songs starting time in iTunes. To change when a song starts and ends locate and highlight the song in iTunes. From there, right->click the song and choose "Get Info" from the Menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Options tab and in the middle of the window there are options to adjust the starting and ending times for that song or songs. When you are satisfied, go ahead and hit OK to apply the changes.
From there, sync the updates to your iPod.
    Hope this helped.

  • Can't edit song information in itunes

I suddenly have not been able to edit song information, using file, edit, get info.
The areas to edit have been grayed out. Is there some setting i inadvertantly changed?

I just switched over to a Mac
    This is the Windows forum.
You should post in the correct forum here -> iTunes for Mac
Anyway, select the \Music\iTunes\ folder, right click - get info.
Make you you have Read and Write permissions.

  • I just downloaded itunes 10.6 and it will not allow me to edit song info! Why?

why won't itunes 10.6 allow me to edit song info?

Have you moved your iTunes library recently? Are you using a different profile?
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownership from an account with administer privileges.
Also in iTunes properties tap the read-only check box until it clears, then click OK. When prompted apply the change to the folder and all files and subfolders.

  • Cannot edit song info in iTunes

Under edit>>view options, iTunes has all of these categories that you can select. I can change in the information in the name, artist, album, and genre categories, but I can't edit information in the description or category columns. Is there a way to do this? (I tried looking under Get Info, but that doesn't work either.) I want to be able to have different descriptions or categories for songs in the same album, so the comment feature wasn't helpful either. I'm using Windows XP Home Edition 2002 and iTunes 6.

    Hi ladymahogany, welcome!
    Huh. I can't edit those 2 fields,either.
Look for a 3rd party tag editor on downloads.com.
I think "tag & rename" has had good reviews.
