Editing Style Sheets

This seems like a pretty straightforward thing to do but I
didn't see it in the RH manual.
I just imported several MIF files into a new WebHelp project.
I applied a style sheet to all the new topics, but the style names
don't match. Now, I could go through each topic and apply the
appropriate style for each paragraph independently, but I'd much
rather just copy the style definition to do it all at once.
Is there any way to copy the definition of one style to
another within the same style sheet? Or, can I somehow delete the
name of the unwanted style and rename the desired style to do this
to automatically update all the text in that style?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
-Mark

Open the style sheet in Notepad or similar. You can then copy
and tweak any style.

  • Editing style sheet error

    Whenever I try to edit a component of my style sheet, I keep getting this error.  (attached screenshot). I look at the ipdc-screen.css is on my local disk. ???

    I can't see the top of your page, where you link the stylesheet to your page, but if you are linking with an absolute link (http:// etc. etc.), you are linking to an online file, and that will not be available to be edited locally. I would do as the warning suggests, and download the file to your local system.
    If the file is indeed available locally in your site files, then you should change the link to a local, document-relative link instead of an absolute link.
    If you are linking to the online stylesheet because it is a standard across departments, then perhaps it should not be edited. You can make an additional, editable stylesheet to go along with (and modify) the styles in the online stylesheet. When you do so, be sure to place the link to your new stylesheet after the link to the online stylesheet.

  • Style sheet administration

    I would like to see a new InDesign feature or add-on whereby I could administer and edit paragraph/character style sheets for multiple documents, rather than having to individually edit style sheets in all those documents.
    Rather than the style sheets being embedded in the document, they could be linked to it from a central set.
    Recently I was involved in a job where we had to change the style sheets on 40,000 templates. Lucrative for me on a freelance basis, but somewhat tedious...

    Interesting idea.
    But do you know you can already do a lot of what you want by using the Book feature? As long as the style names are EXACTLY the same in all the files you can add files to a Book (.indb) and synchronize the styles for all to a single document of your choice (the one you edited). Just be careful NOT to synch any sort of numbering or anything else.

  • Site-specific style sheet rules

    Hello,
    Does anyone know if it's possible to add site-specific sections to my default style sheet (Preferences > Advanced > Style sheet)? It's possible to do this in Firefox using this syntax: @-moz-document url-prefix(http://www.apple.com) { ... }, but I'm not aware of a Safari or Webkit equivalent.
    I'd like to undo some of the changes made in a recent re-design of one of my favourite web sites, but due to the rather generic IDs and class names that they use it's proving to be difficult to write a style sheet that only targets that site.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Jinxed,
    Firstly, I need to verify the followings:
    Are you using SharePoint 2013?
    What is website designer? Whether the website designer is SharePoint Deisgn Manager or SharePoint Designer.
    Where can we find Site->Advanced->Edit Style Sheet?
    Could you give me a screenshot for your Site?
    I hope this helps.

  • Can style sheets effect how fast edits can be made in InCopy?

    Issue has happened using both CS5 and CS6.
    InDesign user (designer) is on a Mac Pro (OS X 10.8.4)
    InCopy user (writer) is on PC (Win7sp1 64 bit)
    Normally, the workflow between InDesign and InCopy is smooth, however I’ve encountered issues when working with larger InDesign documents. The file I have issues with is 100 pages of flowed text (no images, no master pages) with 17 character styles and 24 paragraph styles.
    When the writer tries to make text edits in InCopy, it takes anywhere from 5-45 seconds to make a change (for example; deleting a space may take 5 seconds, while getting rid of a paragraph return takes 45 seconds).
    Troubleshooting this problem a few months ago, I narrowed down that the issue was coming from the style sheets in InDesign (when I ran the same text without any style sheets, the writer was able to make InCopy edits without a problem).
    I then recreated the style sheets from scratch (instead of importing them from the previous catalog like we normally do) and that seemed to fix the issue. Now, with the current catalog we just started working on, we’re running into the same problem with slow edits in InCopy. I imported the style sheets from the file that worked last time (with the new style sheets I built) but that didn’t work this time around.
    Is it possible to have a “corrupt” style sheet that would cause this issue? I’m not sure if the slowness is coming from style sheets or something else entirely. Any thoughts or suggestions on where this problem might be coming from would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time!

    • create a vertical Gradient Layer black to nothing
    • create a horizontal Gradient Layer nothing to white to nothing
    • apply »Create Clipping Mask«
    • add black background
    • convert that whole stack of layers to a Smart Object or flatten it (being as CS3 will not support perspectival transformation of SO)
    • invoke Edit > Transform > Perspective or Warp
    • create a Gradient Map Layer blue to cyan (or whatever) and clipping mask it to that layer
    • set the Gradient Map Layer to Color and the Layer with the Gradient to Screen (that way it should work on all backgrounds)
    • if necessary apply some Gaussian Blur to the gradient layer

    David,
    you can modify the Logo in the File DefaultHeader.xml. You can find it under the Web/Themens,
    in the Sample Project as Jeremy said.
    Please include this in your project as Jeremy described.

  • CSS Style Sheet Link Recursive Error?

    I am trying to link a css style sheet to a new root file. When I try to link the css sheet I get an error - A recursive style import was found while trying to add Check Magazine.css. Please resolve this error by editing the file in an external text editor and try again.
    What does this mean?  I looked up recursive style everywhere and there is no explanation.  I don't know how to fix.  The answer I found on these forums mentioned an @import statement error but I dont even have any @import statemensts in my style sheet this style sheet is part of the Getting Started tutorial on this website.

  • Mapping style templates and properties to Actual Style Sheet Classes

    I got this response to an email regarding creating a customized style sheet and thought others might find it useful following is my initial question and the response from David Phipps. If anyone else has input to this conversation please join in.
    Initial question: I'm trying to create a highly customized style sheet and could use a matrix that maps the various properties to the styles that each property affects. I have had some success determining the specific styles that I would like to change but am unable to use the style mill with any efficacy to make those changes. We are attempting to create a single language style sheet with a unique color scheme that matches our branding. One big problem we have run into is that certain styles are called in multiple places with different backgrounds (i.e. breadcrumbText). Any help along these lines that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Response:The CSS style mapping is not terribly satisfying right now; many objects share common CSS styles, which means if you change one tiny thing the whole page changes. We don't have a matrix or spreadsheet or styleguide that lays out the page itself and defines the styles used in each point. However, the stylesheet mill should work for you, and it's possible that what you have going on is a problem with your mill or an incomplete copy of what it generates.
    There are 18 styles in the portal currently; you can actually create new styles and populate them, which sounds like the option you are interested in. The mill is just an ANT script that uses the template files in the templates directory and combines them with the property files in the prop-color and prop-text directories.
    The prop-text files are per language (10 languages); if you check you'll see the values are all the same right now; the idea is you could change the font names or sizes per-language if you wanted to.
    The prop-color files are per style (18 styles). If you want a new set of property values for, say, style 19, you'd add a file called color.19.properties, and the mill would pick that up and generate 190 files (19 styles x 10 languages). It would then add a new line to community-themes.txt, which has a name of each style for each language, based on data it picked up from your new color.19.properties file.
    The real secret is that you only add color style elements you want to override. If you want a specific set of styles to always be available, just add them directly to the appropriate template file (in your case, the portal50.template file) without using the @variable@ in place of actual values. Then you're just adding new style overrides that apply everywhere.
    Finally, you can add arbitrary new properties to your new prtoperties file and use those in the template:
    in portal50.template:
    ..actionbarPortletBg {background-color: @personal.and.interesting.setting@;}
    in color.19.properties:
    personal.and.interesting.setting=#ff9900
    So the CSS mill is just a glorified text replacement tool.
    Remember that the CSS mill works this way:
    - Run make_all.bat if you're not sure and want to insure you've remilled everything, otherwise use make_community_css.bat or make_menu.bat to remill only community styles or those for the jsportalmenus dropdown, respectively.
    - The resulting files are created in ptimages/tools/cssmill/css
    - You have to copy the resulting files by hand to the imageserver CSS location, which is
    ptimages/imageserver/plumtree/common/public/css
    - You have to forcibly stop and restart your imageserver, be it Apache, Tomcat, IIS, Websphere or whatever; no matter what anyone says the new content won't show up reliably until you restart your imageserver.
    You probably know all this and your real problem is the CSS is not specific enough, that is, you can't get individual items to change like you want. We have been working on this, and the new version of the portal will have much more addressable CSS styles, including the ability to specify styles for individual navigation elements, individual pages, and individual portlets. This basically meant rewriting the HTML we generate, of course.
    Since you can override and rewrite chunks of our HTML as well using View Overrides, if you're in a jam we can walk you through how to rewrite specific bits of the UI that are causing you trouble - for instance, the code that generates the breadcrumbs itself.

    One way to do this is to give the <body> tag an ID. In a template, you need to make the ID attribute of the <body> tag editable.
    You would then have something like this in your style sheet:
    #home.oneColFixCtrHdr #container #navigation li,
    #services.oneColFixCtrHdr #container #navigation li,
    #about.oneColFixCtrHdr #container #navigation li,
    #contact.oneColFixCtrHdr #container #navigation li,
    #testimonials.oneColFixCtrHdr #container #navigation li,
    #links.oneColFixCtrHdr #container #navigation li
    background-color:
    #66ccFF;
    border-bottom-width: 1px;
    border-bottom-style:
    solid;
    border-bottom-color: #FFFFFF;

    Hi Suraj,
    That option is not available in FTP mode..
    This option is applicable only for the File adapter. If you enter a value in this field when configuring the sender FTP adapter, it will have no effect.
    Yes, you're right !!
    Are you sure that the message is not getting picked in half-way
    Now, at this time, I can't see the XML data in the CC monitoring because the tool shows only the recent polling execute in the last 10 minutes. If the error recurs, I will check the payload of CC.
    How can I solve the problem with reading incomplete file (FTP mode)?
    ...Meanwhile I will try with Full cache refresh.
    Thanks

  • How does one export a style sheet?

    Adobe Frame 12 help says:
    "You can also use style sheets (.css) to manage the styles in the published output. In this case, you can export the current styles to a .css file. You can then open this file in a text or .css editor (such as Adobe Dreamweaver), make changes to the styles in this file and import the file back.
    To export and import the style sheet:
    To export the output styles defined for the current output, click Export . "
    OK, so where is this?
    Nothing I can find on the menus provide this option displaying regular Frame or XML view.
    Also, when I find it, do I need to load the css into Dreamweaver? Shouldn't I be able to use the XML view?

    No Colum, I've since found it. (Actually I found a video by Bernard A. that explained a bit).
    In the "Publish" pod are 5 choices (epub, html, etc) and selecting one highlights a button for settings. Edit settings has TWO tabs, one called Style Mappings which is where the button for Import/Export styles can be found.
    There's a button there for Automap Paragraph Styles which I'm going to experiment with next.
    Thanks for your efforts to solve my huge learning curve.

  • Problems attaching an external style sheet to several HTML files created with a template

    Hello All;
    I've been working on a task that should have taken me a few minutes but instead, it's been taken all day.
    I am creating a site using a template and out of the template, I've created about 6 html files each of which is a different page off the main menu.
    I created a blank css file and tried to attach it to one of the menu pages but it keeps saying that the link failed.
    If you want to see my code, follow the link below ...
    http://www.dedula.net/balloonsat/Contact.html
    I am trying to attach a separate style sheet to this page so that I can style the table differently than other pages that use a table but up until now, I have not figured out how to do that in DW. I am not proficient at writing CSS code directly so I am using DW - hope that's possible.
    While templates seem very useful, they are also a source of fustration for the beginner.
    Tim

    To add to what Snakeyes has said, it should have created the "head" editable region to include your <title> opening and closing tags. So I would suggest that you change this
    <title>Balloonsat High Altitude Flight (BHALF) - Home</title>
    To this
    <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="head" -->
    <title>Balloonsat High Altitude Flight (BHALF) - Home</title>
    <!-- InstanceEndEditable -->
    Then directly after the closing <title> tag, add whatever head content you need.

    Hi
    Highlight the css from the document and select - Format - css styles - move css rules. Select new style sheet from the dialog, name the style sheet and save. Check that a link has been created for the new style sheet, if not select attach style sheet from the - Format - css styles list.

  • Problem linking css style sheet

    I am trying to link a css style sheet to a new root file. When I try to link the css sheet I get an error - A recursive style import was found while trying to add CFTtemp.css. Please resolve this error by editing the file in an external text editor and try again.
    What does this mean?  I looked up recursive style everywhere and there is no explanation.  I don't know how to fix.  This css sheet works in other sites.
    screen shot attached

    Perhaps some CSS statement in the stylesheet is trying to import your stylehseet! Thus the recursive warning. Look for "@import" statements and see if its trying to import the stylesheet. Then either comment them out (/*your old CSS*/) or remove it. Save. And see if that solves it. But not being able to see your whole stylesheet, this is only a guess.

  • (none) style gets applied to numbered list & font size not matching text in my style sheet

    RoboHelp 9 (9.0.2.271)
    Something is wrong with my style sheet, and it only started happening after I created Master Page for the first time. This happens whether or not the new Master Page is applied to a topic:  Every time I type any text in a topic, then click the Numbered List icon in the toolbar, the style goes from Normal to (none), and the font changes from my style sheet's Normal 10pt to 8pt, for the number as well as the text.
    I don't see how the new Master Page has anything to do with it because it's not applied to this particular topic.  I had created a Master Page in RoboHelp HTML and applied my style sheet, then my topics to it. I have a footer in the Master Page and applied 8pt font using inline formatting (not the style sheet).
    I created a new project to see what would happen.
    When I apply my style sheet, then apply the numbered list to text, the text font is correct (10pt), but the number font is wrong (8pt).
    But when I apply the default style sheet to the topic, the number font and text font match.
    How can I get the number and text fonts to match in my style sheet?
    I found a workaround by applying inline formatting to the next (10pt) after selecting the text and clicking the numbered list icon.  Below is the html code.  The numbered steps in red are the ones that are not correct (8 pt).  The code with the correct formatting (after I applied inline formatting) is in blue.
    <body>
    <h1>My Overview</h1>
    <p>example</p>
    <ol type="1">
    <li>first step</li>
    <li>second step</li>
    </ol>
    <ol type="1">
    <li style="font-size: 10pt;">Fixed by applying inline formatting to
      10pt after selecting the numbered list icon</li>
    <li style="font-size: 10pt;">next step</li>
    </ol>
    <p>&#160;</p>

    Amebr,
    That was helpful.  I'm looking at a topic now, and both the Apply Style list on the Formatting toolbar show (none) when I click a numbered list that I created using the Created a Numbered List or Create a Bulleted List on the toolbar.
    This is the html code for the correct font (10pt):
    <ol>
    <li class="p">this is the (none) style when I use the numbering button
      on the toolbar (which is inline formatting)</li>
    <li class="p">this is the (none) style when I use the numbering button
      on the toolbar&#160;(which is inline formatting)</li>
    <li class="p">this is the (none) style when I use the numbering button
      on the toolbar&#160;(which is inline formatting)</li>
    </ol>
    Both styles list show the correct custom styles I created for numbered lists, though.  Below is the code (correct font):
    <ol>
    <li class="p-ProcedureSteps"><p class="ProcedureSteps">this is from
      my custom numbered style and looks correct</p></li>
    </ol>
    What's strange is, if I create a list and highlight it, then click the Apply Numbered List button in the toolbar, the numbers and text font size changes to 8 point and my Normal font is 10 pt, and both style lists show (none).  That's what I wanted to figure out in my original post.  I opened up the stylesheet and I don't see where that's applied.  In Flare, you can easily see in a table how the styles are formatted, down to each class.
    This is the code for the incorrect font (8pt):
    <ol type="1">
    <li>why is this 8pt?</li>
    <li>why is this 8pt?</li>
    <li>why is this 8pt?</li>
    </ol>
    Below is a screenshot.
    Maybe someone can figure this out. Thanks!
    Gina
