Editing Text in Acrobat 8 Professional

How come I can't edit text using OCR text recognition or touch up text tool on documents that are scanned in
and saved as pdf's? I have more success using these tools on pdfs that are saved out of Word, etc.

I think Bernd was asking 1. Formatted text and graphics, 2. Searchable Image, or 3. Searchable Image (exact) that are the 3 options in AA8. With the searchable image, you may be able to edit the text, but it will remain hidden (the screen display is an image). With formatted text and graphics there is sometimes a problem because an outline font is used that can not be used for editing. You might be able to change the font and then edit -- I have not spent a lot of time with the option.

  • Edited PDF in photoshop and edit text in acrobat

    I am trying to edit an existing PDF that has a blue backround and text on it. I think it was made in photoshop. I had to fix a logo on it to so I brought the pdf to photoshop and edited the logo. But now I can't edit the text in acrobat professional! I could before I changed the logo.
    Is there something I need to do in photoshop first before I make it a pdf? Or should I just create the text in acrobat professional?
    I need to know for work. Reply soon.
    Thanks

    Renee,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    You have somehow found your way to a forum that is for feedback about Discussions and has nothing to do with technical issues.
    You might do better in OSX forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=745
    However as this appears to be an Adobe product issue you may do better on one of their boards at http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html

  • Editing Text in Acrobat Pro 9.

    I have been trying to edit text in Acrobat Pro 9 using the touchup tool. Nothing happens when I try to type text or replace existing text. I have read that the system font must match the text in the PDF in order to change the text. According to the properties the text is curier a standard Windows font. Any suggestion?

    The PDF file maybe password protected. Click Secure and Remove Security.

  • Editing Text in Acrobat Pro DC

    I've followed all the instructions for editing text but when I go to select a text box the entire area is selected and the only choice is to move objects on the page (flip, left/right, etc).   I'm unable to click on the blue box to select that specific text box I need to adjust. There is no option for me to select Tools to follow the other help instructions  "If a bounding box doesn’t appear, choose Tools > Recognize Text > In This File."
    I'm trying to work on a PDF that someone else created (who is on vacation, lucky) and of course the client needs it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    I don't have Acrobat DC here right now, so I can't give you step-by-step instructions for text recognition.
    But have a look at https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/how-to/edit-scanned-pdf-files.html?set=acrobat--fundamenta ls--edit-pdf

  • Can't edit text in Acrobat X Pro

    I can't seem to edit text properly in a recently created PDF document, using Acrobat X Pro. I went to the help file, and followed the instructions, but it isn't working right. All I need to do is replace the numeral "8" with a "7" in a paragraph. When I finally get to the point to edit the text, I can delete the "8" but when I type "7', it creates a large space instead.
    The instructions said that maybe I have to do something regarding the adobe font, so I did that, was able to finally enter a "7" but it messed up the formatting of the paragraph. Surely it can't be this hard to revise one character?

    Steve,
    There are definitely folks out there that have had the same problem in Lion.  Just to cover the obvious basics however ... Select the clip with the text in it (we are talking about Titles, right?). Then position your timeline vertical playback marker somewhere in that clip.  Go up to the preview window and make sure the little rectangle icon in the lower left corner is Blue (enabled) ... a little horizontal line will appear near the center of the text area with a little circle on the end.  Then go to a word in your text and double click it.  Does it select the word? Making sure again that the text clip is actually selected on the timeline, if it does not select the text then I probably cannot help you.  There are other discussions on this topic, but I really do not know for sure if there are resolutions.  FYI, I use FCP X with Lion and 16GB on a 2011 21" iMac and use text titles about 20 times a week and do not have a problem at all.  Still I know the problems others are seeing are real.  Best wishes,
    stephen

  • Edit text in Acrobat 9 issue

    HI,
    I'm trying to edit text in a pdf. When I'm selecting the text with the touch up text tool it is huge! It selects a paragraph insted of one line. How can I change it to select one line of text?
    Thank you.

    Normally you would just place the cursor in the text field and drag it for the text you want. Besides that, editing in Acrobat can be a real pain and is not recommended. If at all possible, you should go back to the original document and just create a new PDF.

  • Cannot Editing Text in Acrobat 8

    I opened customers pdf in Acrobat 8 Mac. Went to properties and found font name and opened it. Was able to edit Optima fonts but was not able to edit any of the Avante Garde fonts. I changed the avante garde text to times and arial, and still got an error message: "All or part of the selection has no available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font." Seems like it will only accept a few fonts and Acrobat's font list is different than my Suitcase Fusion list - even if I have them open if Suitcase.
    How change I change fonts to MY fonts and EDIT them?? Thanks

    Have a PDF Form created in Photoshop and converted to a PDF. Would like to edit text in the form but the TouchUp Text Tool won't work. It is as though it doesn't recognize the text. Any ideas as to how I can edit text in the form. I need to delete text, add new text and move existing text.

  • Editing text in Acrobat Pro doc using Reader

    I've created documents in Acrobat 8 Pro for a client who needs to be able to add a few lines of text in Reader, then re-save and email the PDFs. Each time they try, though, they get the message telling them that they can't save the PDF and should print it out and fill it in.
    Is there any way round this, other than my client buying Acrobat Pro?

    I'm not talking about pages of edits. For major Updates you simply create a new one.
    I'm talking about after you read it you discover the word "read" is spelled "reed" in one instances.
    I'm not talking about "major" edits either. If you have the original document, you always want to edit it first. It's just silliness to do anything else. Editing the PDF is asking for problems in many different forms.
    That's the ideal but what if you do not have an original. Suppose the pdf was sent to you to correct.
    I've been there.  Also if a PDF is not been setup for Reader User Rights, by an individual, if you have a Pdf that has small defect, there is a tendency to to use touch up text.  I've done that myself.
    But if I find more than one or two items , I do as you. I just go back to riginal if I have it, and create a new one.
    The above was to caution that if you hvae minor defects , you've either got to create a new version or create a copy with usage rights disabled, then work on that. You methos is the best.

  • Question about editing text for Acrobat 9 pro...

    I recently switched to Vista and Acrobat 9 pro and everytime I go to edit my PDF I use the "text touch-up" tool just like I should yet the tool just shifts and distorts the text without actually replacing or deleting any of the text.  Has anyone encountered/know how to fix this problem?  Thank You.

    Such problems are not new with AA9. Editing has always been hit and miss. It may be that if you tried to edit one of the files you used to work on, things would work fine and it is simply the particular file at hand. I will not deny that there may be changes to the methods in AA9 that make things worse, but it never was great.

  • Editing text in acrobat xi pro

    I had to reinstall acrobat xi pro but now I am unable to edit any text or images.
    Can anyone advise me?
    Many Thanks

    Hi iseanwm,
    Please let us know what you mean by "unable to edit." Are you getting an error message? Does Acrobat freeze?
    Please provide the following, so we can get to the bottom of this frustrating issue:
    Are you on Mac OS or Windows?
    Have you installed the latest Acrobat update (choose Help > Check for Updates).
    Does this problem occur with just one file, or with any that you open in Acrobat?
    What happens when you try to edit (error message, freeze)?
    We look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • How to distinguish a text in acrobat professional 8.0?

    Hi all,
    I am new to this forum.
    First, let me explain my problem:
    I have a acrobat file which looks like as shown above. There is some text which corresponds to each number. I am interested to extract the numbers which have some particular text( ex:N/A) embedded in that text. With this, I am able to get 17 and 21. But, number 19 is also coming, though it does not has N/A in it. I mean, as there is N/A outside the box but before next question number, it appears like it is also associated with number 19.
    My code is as follows:
    var NA_Pattern1 = /N\/A\"/g;
    var NA_Pattern2 = /N\/A/g;
            var my_pattern = /Y/g;
    var Page_variable,Word_variable,k,l,number_of_pages;
    var Prev_label,Present_label,count;
    var word1,word2;
    var Total_Qstn_Strng;
            Prev_label = 0;
    k = 0;
    count = 0;
    number_of_pages = k ;
    var Qstn_num = 1;
    Total_Qstn_Strng = "";
    for( Page_variable = 0 , l = 0 ; Page_variable < this.numPages ; Page_variable++ )
      if ( this.getPageLabel( Page_variable ) == Checklist_Pages[ l ] )
       //Get the number of words present in the page
      l++;
      Number_of_Words_in_a_Page = this.getPageNumWords( Page_variable );
    Word_variable = 0;
        do
          word1 = this.getPageNthWord( Page_variable , Word_variable , false );
         Word_variable ++ ;
         word2 = this.getPageNthWord( Page_variable , Word_variable , false );
         Total_String = word1 + word2;
        while ( !NA_Pattern2.test( Total_String ) );
      for(  ; Word_variable < Number_of_Words_in_a_Page ;Word_variable ++  )
         word1 = this.getPageNthWord( Page_variable , Word_variable , false );
        if ( (word1 == Qstn_num ))
          Word1 = this.getPageNthWord( Page_variable , Word_variable , false );
          Total_String = "";
          while( (Qstn_num + 1) !=  Word1 && !(my_pattern.test(Word1)) )
           Total_String = Total_String + Word1;
           Word_variable ++;
           if ( Word_variable == Number_of_Words_in_a_Page )
            break;
           Word1 = this.getPageNthWord( Page_variable , Word_variable , false );
         if( NA_Pattern2.test(Total_String) || NA_Pattern1.test(Total_String))
           Total_Qstn_Strng = Total_Qstn_Strng + "," +  Qstn_num );
          Qstn_num ++;
          Word_variable --;
    app.alert(Total_Qstn_Strng);
    Thanks in advance,
    Shivaraj

    You may look also at the dimension of the words (getPageNthWordQuads).

  • Editing Text Boxes, Acrobat X Pro

    2 Questions.
    1.  I would like to change the fill/background colour of a text box but can't find where to do it?  Can someone point me in the right direction.  Right now, my text boxes are all white.  I would like them to be a different colour with white text.  I can select white for my text, but can't seem to change the background.
    2.  I would like to merge all my text boxes so that if opened by Acrobat, people don't see hundred of text boxes when they click on an area that has text boxes.  But they should be able to see the text.
    Thanks.
    Stan.

    Figures I figure out how to get MORE back after I post, but still no properties.  This is what I get now.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Stan.

  • Stuck Editing text in Acrobat 9 in an already formatted document.

    This is very basic, but I cannot find the technical answer in HELP menu.
    I have received a document already formatted in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. I have to make corrections. I know how to delete words or change words. However when I have to ADD IN extra words the page does not automatically reformat as in MS Word. Instead the line gets longer and juts out beyond all the other lines on the right hand side.(upsets the justification).If the line is last in the page, it does not push the text over onto the next page. How can I insert text like I would do in MS Word?

    You do not have a choice at this point, but if the tags were selected when the PDF was created you may get almost prefect recovery into WORD. At this point, just try saving as a DOC file and it will either work well or not. If not, you have the choice of either reformatting yourself or asking for the original. There is not really much else you can do other than purchasing one of the 3rd party products that do a better conversion than Acrobat does, though Acrobat has gotten better with each release from what I have seen.

  • Editing Text within Acrobat X suite is very slow

    All other handling within this programm goes normal,
    moving trough text works normal, loading of fonts goes normal,
    Openeing of more diferent PDF documents works fine.
    It is just the editing, typing one character takes up to 5 seconds

    Hi, My OS is Windows 7 x64 Ultimate incl. SP1, 100 GB Free SSD Space, 6 GB DDR3 RAM, 2 Monitor, 1920x1080 Resolution, no big running background Processes!

  • How does one create a form with prefilled editable text in Acrobat Pro, such as for fliers or business cards that can be edited and saved by the end user in Reader?

    Working on a Mac. Have seen examples so know it's possible.

    When I created a new template like you told me, I wasn't given the option to rename the fields. See screenshot below. I'm just given the option to add a new template. Changing it refers to changing the template to a different page.
    If you can show me how to have the fields renamed automatically or use the rename parameter, I think that should fix it.
    Under Tools>JavaScript>Document JavaScripts, I've added a Script named "PackagingArtwork".
    // Here is the code
    function PackagingArtwork()
    {this.createTemplate({cName: "PackagingArtwork", nPage: 5});
    // Here the code that spawns the template
    var PackagingArtworkArray = this.templates;
              var PackagingArtwork = PackagingArtworkArray[0];
              PackagingArtwork.spawn(this.numPages, false, false);
    This is what the JS debugger said.
    Acrobat EScript Built-in Functions Version 10.0
    Acrobat SOAP 10.0
    var t1 = createTemplate("t1", 0);
    var oXO = t1.spawn({nPage: numPages, bOverlay: false});
    while (numPages < 50) {
        t1.spawn({nPage: numPages,  bOverlay: false, oXObject: oXO});
