Editing Text in PDF

Hello!  My project is to create a fillable form PDF.  I started in InDesign and then used Adobe Acrobat Pro to place the fields.
Now I need to update some of the text at the bottom of the last page.  It appears that I cannot do that in Acrobat, I probably need to go back to InDesign.  How do I duplicate / import all of the fields, settings, and tab order so that they appear exactly where they are in the current revision?  Acrobat says that the document is secured and I can't edit the form, so will that hinder this process?
Thank you.

This FAQ explains how to enable editing on the PDF:

  • Editing text from pdf file

how to edit text from pdf file?

Adobe Reader does not allow editing the text of a PDF document. You will need to get Acrobat on your Windows or Mac to do that.

  • Editing text in pdf file

I just bought Adobe Acrobat and was told that I would be able edit text in a pdf file I open. However I can't figure out how to do this?
I can select the text but can't edit/change it?

The Adobe Reader for SymbianOS isn't a PDF editor. You'd need Acrobat
for that, using the Text Touch-up Tool.

  • Editing text in PDFs - only the numbers are missing the font

When editing text in a PDF (created in InDesign), I can edit all the text EXCEPT for any numbers. When I try to input a number, I get the message "The original font XXXX is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Arial in its place". It then places other characters in its place - not sure what they are but they're not numbers. Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

Sorry, I found my answer here:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1582291?q=arabic%20numbers
Apparently, the HINDI DIGITS checkbox under Preferences\Languages is by default checked. This ridiculous default resulted in Arabic numbers when editing the PDF in Acrobat. Editing text was fine, but whenever I would type in a number, it would appear as Arabic characters.

  • Need to edit text in pdf file created in Illustrator CS6

I need for someone else to be able to edit text in a pdf I created from Illustrator. They have full acrobat and should be able to edit it. I have tried it myself to test before sending it but it's not working. The original file was created in Illustrator CS6 and saved as a pdf (text has not been created outlines). I opened the file in acrobat and saved it out as an extended file to be able to edit the text but no luck. Need to be able to highlight existing text and change it. I have tried edit text tool but instead of a selection box around each line of text, it puts a selection box around all of the text. I can highlight the text and delete it but am unable to change it. Each individual text line needs to be editable. Is there something I need to do differently in Illustrator to get it to work correctly in Acrobat?
If it helps- the file is a calendar and they need to be able to change the dates and events that are already there.

This really isn't a suitable use of Acrobat. You should all be using the same editing tool (i.e. Illustrator).
Extending files reduces the amount of editing Acrobat can do, it does not increase it.
The tool to edit text from Illustrator would be Edit Document Text. There is no guarantee it will break up nicely into lines, it's trying to help by making paragraph text.
Conceivably you could use a form for this (fill in the blank for dates) but really, you should be using the same tool. Not necessarily Illustrator, more Excel or specialist Calendar software.

  • How can I edit text in pdf?

newbie here to editing text in a pdf. I make a document in InDesign and exported it into a pdf. I tried to change the text in the pdf, using the touch up tool but it won't let me change it. What am I doing wrong?

That depends on what type of edits you want to do.
You can use the touchup text tool to make some changes to text (this assumes that the person on the other end has the exact same fonts installed). The touchup object tool can be used to remove images...Have them look under the "tools" menu to see what is available. Different ones are there depending on their version of Acrobat.
Why are you having them make edits (just asking to see if there is a better way of doing this because really, you don't want to go down this road)?
Do they really need to make edits or are they just marking up changes they want done in the document so you can do them? If that's the case, have them use the comment tools.
There are way too many things to go wrong when you start editing PDF's. They really should be considered simply a digital piece of paper and nothing more.

  • Problems editing text in pdf file

I have a user that is using Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and is wanting to edit a pdf form that someone sent him.  When we open it and I use the Touchup Text Tool to try and delete some of the text it throws off the entire layout of the document.  Is this because this document wasn't originally set up as a pdf? I don't understand why my edits throw everything off.  For example when I highlight the white text in the reddish colored header and start typing new text, the new text appears down below the header next to the "For daily and terminal cleaning" text.  I tried resaving the file and even tried exporting it to Word etc, and then reopening in Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard but none of that helped.  Am I completely missing something easy in this program?  I thought this would be a simple task.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Bill,
I have used the Text Touchup Tool to jump around through the document.  The document is broken up into sections that are editable, but any editing of the very top part throws everything way off.  I don't know anything about Designer.  Do you think it's possible this document was created in something like Word and was scanned in as a pdf and that is why I am having a hard time editing it?
    Thanks, malaize

  • Can't edit text in PDF

    Hi,
Using Acrobat Pro 8.1.7 intel mac plenty of ram. I've got a PDF from a client that comes with areas that I can supposedly change. However I get this message:
All or part of the selection has no available system font. You can not add or delete text using the current selected font.
The font is Helv Neue Roman TT. I have every Helv Neue but that one. If I buy it can I edit it?
Would Acrobat 9 do it easier?
    Thanks

You've ran in to one of the problems with editing PDF's. They really aren't intended for that type of editing.
You would need the "exact" font on your system and even then, it may not work.
If the creator of the file used say and Open Type Font (works on Windows and Mac) and you had the same one, that would be your best bet.

  • Corrupt Text in PDF doc: After editing text in pdf doc. all sorts of text corruptions occurred.

Let me walk you through everything I did and the following issues that occurred...
Under Actions Wizard I chose "Optimize for Web"
Then I saved the the document as an "Optimized Adobe PDF"
I then had small text edits I needed to make to the document...
    I edited the text
Then, again chose "optimize for web" and again saved it as an "optimized adobe pdf"
Upon re-opening the document the text was very corrupted. (extra spaces, random characters, missing letters, overlapping characters, etc.)
I need help with this ASAP, this pdf is supposed to be prepared for presentation by 7 pm tonight!
How do I fix the corruption without redoing the entire document????

Generally the answer is go back to the originating application, make the edits there, and create a new PDF. Editing a PDF is a risky process and often leads to undesired results. Usually it does not change on a reload, but not sure in that case.

  • Outline box when editing text in PDF using v8

We are running, Windows XP, Acro8 with updates. Created PDF files from within INDCS3. Many of the frames are independent.
When trying to edit the text using the touchup text tool in Acrobat v8, it outlines complete area on the form which are not the same as the frames in INDCS3.
Was this something new in v8 and how could this be removed via preferences.

This started happening back in AA6 I think. It is not new.

  • Editing Text in PDFs with Preview

    Hello,
I have a certain peice of information I'd like to delete from a PDF file. I can't crop it since it's in the middle of the document. I just want to delete this string of text from a scanned PDF file. Is this possible in Preview? Thanks!

You can do a "screen Capture" which creates a .png file, and insert it where you want it, or just send this piece to whoever.
Screen Capture: Open the file you want, with the part you want to capture showing.
Then hold down Shift-Command-4 and let go. You get a crosshairs target type mouse pointer. Move it around the area you want to capture. When you close the box around the part your interested in, you will hear a Camera Clicking sound and a file will show up on your desk top called "Picutre1.png". That file can be printed or put back into Preview for further uses.

    Yes: Buy Acrobat.
You can't edit PDF files using the free Reader, which is what you have.

  • Edit Text in PDF Forms

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me.
I have a PDF Form which I created in LiveCycle, I was hoping to use this form as a template form, so all I had to do was to use the Touch Up Tool in Adobe Professional, and change the address.
The problem occurs when I change the address, as soon as I hit return to add a new line, all the layout on that page goes all over the place instead of where it is actually meant to be!!
Does anyone know how I can put a line in, without the formatting going wrong?
Also, to make life easier, if I could change the text in Livecycle, that would be brilliant, the only problem being it doesn't look like there is an option for me to select the text and touch it up like there is in Professional.
Can anyone help me please? I really don't want to have to create a new form for every company we have listed, I'll be here until 2012 just doing that!!
Thank for your help in advance.

That's interesting, I never thought about using that sort of approach, I will definately look in to that further, I have since found the fault in the file, it appears that for me to take a line out, I have to put a space at the beginning of the text in order to remove the rest of the text. Which is really annoying!
After the text was removed and the pdf saved, I went in to Livecycle and added a new field that way so that I could save individual files.
What you have taught me though will prove extremely helpful, I will start having a look at doing this in place of what I already have, but unfortunately I can't experiment with it right now, if I need any more advice on this, is there a way fro me to get hold of you outside the forums?

  • How to edit text on PDF form in Acrobat 8 professional

I just took a Word doc and created a form for an application.  The client changed the deadline and I would like to know if I can make that change in Acrobat 8 Prof (MAC) or if I have to make the change in Word, create a PDF and completely re-do the form? Of course, it needs to be done right now.

Create a new PDF from Word. Open the old form in Acrobat and replace the pages with the pages of the new PDF.
