Editing text in photoshop elements

I would like to edit text in a band promo poster created in photoshop. When I open the file in photoshop elements, all I see is the main photograph of our band, I can't find the text. Any suggestions on where to look ? All I want to do is change our gig date and location information. Thanks, Tom R.

Thanks for the message. I followed up with the company who sent the file. They used photo shop to dress up our band picture, the rest of the poster (text, etc.) was done using In Design. I didn't know this. What I received was just the photo shop portion, so only one layer with picture. I need to get a trial version of In Design to see if I can figure out a work flow. If the blur is small with compared to the size of text, you can try removing the blur.
With the Marquee tool, outline a selection around the text, right click the image and select "Layer via copy"
Select the newly created layer and use Enhance> Adjust Sharpness. You can learn more about sharpening images in PSE from here
Make a mask around the processed layer and remove the effect of Sharpening from the unwanted area

I got iPhoto '11, version 9.2.3 and want to edit photos using Photoshop elements 10. I have put P'shop 10 as the preferred editor... but when I click on the photo in iPhoto the Adobe p'shop 10 program opens BUT the picture does not open for editing. Wha.

Go to to the image I'm working on --- selected the image, the clicked on edit. When nothing happened I double clicked the image. Still elements didn't open. Then I opened the Elements editor, went back to iphoto and tried the entire process again. the photo still didn't open on Elements 13 for editing.
I have 3 Elements 13 books as well as looked on line--all my references say the exact same thing ---- iPhoto>Preferences>advanced>edit in external program>photoshop Elements
I uninstalled and reinstalled both iPhoto as well as Elements.
I spoke with application technical support. There appears to be nothing wrong with my copy of iPhoto. However there is no support from Adobe. I waited for over 1.5 hours for chat support several days ago, and finally gave up.

You are probably choosing the obvious file rather than the correct file as the PSE editor. The actual editor is hidden away inside the Support Files folder. The PSE file at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen and what you're describing is exactly what happens when you choose that. You want this one:

RAW editing workflow with Photoshop Elements 6

I have been using the following workflow with RAW images in iPhoto and editing them in Photoshop Elements 6. It seems to be working fine. Does anyone see a problem with my workflow???
I choose to edit in external editor (Elements 6), and the image opens in Camera Raw. I make my edits here because I really like the editing power of Camera Raw. After I am finished, I chose Save As and choose jpeg. The save dialog tries to save back to the Originals folder in the iPhoto Library that the RAW file came from, so I simply choose the appropriate event in the Modified folder and save it there. It replaces the jpeg that iPhoto had created when the original RAW file was imported. When I go back to iPhoto the changes are applied.
Now I realize that I can't reopen the original RAW file again in Elements without reverting to original, but that is usually not an issue. I also realize that messing with the iPhoto Library outside of iPhoto can be dangerous. Another drawback is that I haven't been able to open multiple RAW photos from iPhoto into Camera Raw so I can apply changes all at once.
But I can't see anything wrong with the workflow. Am I on the right track, or am I missing something?

No, I don't believe you can do that with RAW editing. By manually replacing the first modified version with your RAW edited version iPhoto will not update the thumbnail. You will be able to see the edited version if you go to the edit mode or full screen mode. But the thumbnail will not be identical. If that's OK with you then you should be able to go with that workflow.
If the edits are significant enough you might want to save the new file to the desktop and import as a new file.
You can try this on a copy of the iPhoto Library. Open the library package and move the contents of the Data folder to the trash along with the Thumb32Segment.data, Thumb642Segment.data and ThumbJPGSegment.data files. Then launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. This will rebuild the thumbnail files and my reflect your edited versions. Again, make a backup copy of the library before trying this.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Editing text in Photoshop CS3 file causes crash. File originally created in Photoshop CS6

Trying to edit text in Photoshop CS3 file causes a crash - Tried on multiple PC's
File originally created in Photoshop CS6 with "Maximise PSD/PSB File Compatibility" set at "Always".
Document size A4, using Arial Regular. RGB. 8Bits. 72dpi
Colour Profile: sRGB IEC61966
Multi business licence for CS3 and CS6 Design Standard/Premium/Master Collection all on PC
Please Help!

Interestingly I have found that if I modify a document in CS6 from an earlier CS3-CS5 document and save it - it works fine. But if I create a new document in CS6 the issue persists.
Looks like I will be modifying old documents for the time being
Would be grateful for some advise eon this.

Colouring text in photoshop elements 9

I have tried choosing the text layer, selecting the text and choosing a colour from the menu at the top of the screen and I have tried selecting each letter individually and trying to block fill them with the paintpot tool,but the letters remain black. Any suggestions?

Go to Select menu>all
Go to Edit menu>copy to put it on the clipboard
Go to your destination document>Paste

How to add edited text from photoshop to dreamweaver

I edited text in photoshop to make it look nice and sparkly. I am trying to put it in a flash site but do not understand how. the context file only allows you to choose the color and type of font but nothing more such as drop shadows and such. when i go to edit the context code for the flash site what would the code for edited text in photoshop look like in dreamweaver context editor?

I am not sure I understand? There is no Photoshop code?
You would take the image you created in Photoshop and place it into your Dreamweaver document. Correct me if I don't understand what you are trying to do.

Is there a way to justify text in Photoshop Elements?

I am trying to justify text in Photoshop Elements 10 but can't find any place that I can do that. Can I justify text and, if so, how?

Using a type tool, click the Align pop-up menu and select any of the following:
Left Align Aligns the left edge of each text line in the layer to the initial cursor position.
Center
Aligns the center of each text line in the layer to the initial cursor position.
Right Align
Aligns the right edge of each text line in the layer to the initial cursor position.

You need to remove third party plugin and try launching. You should find it in plugins folder either here C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Plug-Ins or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins
Else try skipping the loading of thirdparty plugins like below:
   1. Close Elements.
   2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl/cmd + shift as you click Editor/Edit.
   3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message to skip loading of 3rd party plugins..Click yes and check.

Problem with text in photoshop elements 7

I am trying to make a recipe book from odd fun food on-line. Instead of typing all of the text in below the pictures of the food, I tried to copy it from the website and paste it onto photoshop 7. I selected "new" and then tried to paste, the option wasn't there. I then went back to the website and saved the text to my documents. I named it "pop". It was saved as "pop.txt". I went back to photoshop and tried to open the file. An error message appeared stating that "the file could not be opened because it is the wrong type of file". I then went back to the website and copied the text once again and pasted it onto Microsoft Works Word Processor. I saved it on there and it was saved as a ".wps" file. Once again photoshop could not open it because "it was the wrong type of file". All I want to to is to be able to copy text or a picture from a site or Word or whatever and then be able to paste it onto Photoshop Elements 7. Is this possible? If so, please tell me how. If not, please give me another alternative. I would appreciate it so very much! I have been trying to do this for 4 days now! Losing patience!!! Thank you!

You can use the type tool in photoshop elements 7.
1. copy your text as you did before. (i copied some your post)
2. In pse7, using the picture you want to paste the text in, select horizontal type tool.
3. Click on the image where you want your text (you can move the txt after you paste)
4. After you click on the image with the type tool, the cursor will blink.
Just right click and select paste.
5. Now your text is pasted into a editable type layer, which can be changed just like
any other type layer.

Problems with saving edited photos using Photoshop Elements 5.0 on WIndows 8.

Since a week I can not save the edited photos - when I try the communicate: "Caould not complete your request because of a program error" appeares. I had no problem with saving edited photos before, with the same software. My computer runs on Windows 8, 64 bit version. My Photoshop Elements is version 5.0. Where is the problem?

Editing Photos in Photoshop Elements

I can't sort out what happens to my photo edits when done in PSE. I am careful to save the file as a .jpg and save it to the same folder. Nonetheless when I look at the photo in iPhoto, I see the unedited version. I've got to believe that his is, "pilot error" but for the life of me I can't find the correction.
I find the file that I want to edit via "file", "open" from PSE, then enter the file number that I see in iPhoto, "information" e.g. img_3405. I edit the file in PSE and save, even getting the "...do you want to replace it?" warning. When I go back to iPhoto, even after close and open, I see the unedited photo. Arrrrrrg!
What do I do (or expect) wrong?

Are accessing PSE from within iPhoto or from the Finder? Are you saving with the same file name?
Here are some tips on using PSE from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
