Editing .tif file in Photoshop, then can't save as .jpg

A problem I've never encountered before. I have a few pictures that were scanned as .tif files. When I import them into Photoshop and work its magic, then save as a .psd file I can then not save the file as a regular .jpg. The jpg option does not appear under Save As. For the record I'm using PS 4 with Windows 7 (64). To the best of my recollection I've never had this problem before. Help.

Thanks. As it turns out in a fit of unexpected insight I just had figured that out. I know my way around PS pretty well, and hadn't thought of that. I appreciate your responses.

Is Photoshop CS6 can't save a file more than 2gegabites?

It depends on the file format, many formats are limited to 2 or 4 Gigabytes.
PSB (Large Document Format) is not so limited.

If you are trying to install the updated Epson scanner driver when you get this message, it will be due to the installer not being digitally signed - which is odd if it is an updated driver. To get past this block, which is a function of Gatekeeper, hold down the Control button and click the installer. A pop-up window will appear. Select Open from the menu. You will now get the option to install the driver software.

  • Lightroom CC reloading on editing TIF files

OK - another little Lightroom CC item I did not experience in earlier versions.
Library catalog settings set to record data to XMP file, as is my standard operating procedure.  NEF raw file edits proceed as normally.  However, on editing TIF files, such as those created externally via Silver EFX or what have you, LR constantly "reloads" the image after every edit (so it seems), and does not keep any of the edits made to the image on reload.
The workaround I found is to turn off recording data to XMP, however I prefer to have XMP data separate from the LR catalog.
    Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Thank you! Yes, I have exactly the same problem. Since upgrading to LR6, touching almost any slider in the Develop module would cause the image to "reload". Worse, it would often "forget" my previous develop edits: even though they were listed on the History panel, they would no longer have any effect.
Great catch, noticing this was just for TIF files!  I didn't make that connection. But as most of my edits involve a round-trip into either PS or Nik, I was almost always editing TIF files. As you suggested, I've disabled "Automatically write changes into XMP" in the Catalog Settings - and now it once again works properly. My first guess was that this had something to do with GPU rendering, but disabling the GPU had no effect on this problem.
This is potentially more than just an annoyance. As mentioned, such a "reload" event would often lose ALL of my previous edits (even though they were still listed in the History panel) and reset the image back to the starting point. That's actual data loss!

  • How to edit PSD files on Photoshop Creative Cloud

    Hi there,
I am new to Creative Cloud and just downloaded the Photoshop App to my desktop. However, I can't seem to find the options where I can edit my psd files. Can someone please help me? I would like to know how I can start editing PSD files on the Photoshop Creative Cloud App.
    Thank you so much!

    HI Resumeboston16,
Which version of Photoshop are you using? Photoshop CC?
You'll probably still want to save you PSD files locally to the computers hard drive. You can upload them to the Creative Cloud files page here https://creative.adobe.com/files through the browser.
Then you could download it on another computer to work on it there.

  • Photoshop CS3 can't save .PSD files

I have Windows XP, Adobe Flash 10.2 ..
I can save all file types two weeks ago, and then one day I just can't. I didn't install/delete anything on my computer before that, it just happened all of a sudden. Scanned for viruses/malware, none found.
    PROBLEMS:
    1) When I save for web images, I get: "Some of the specified files already exists in the target location. The files marked below will be replaced:", though it IS a new & different file/filename. So I click "replace" and I get this: "Adobe Save for Web Error: Could not write the file. The file was not found". Then I click OK, and Cancel. I checked and nothing was saved except TMP54ee.tmp which is 0bytes.
    2) When I save as... .psd, I get: "Could not save as C:\Name\filename.psd because the filename was not valid". I checked, just some gibberish that is TMP54ee.tmp AND ~ps8455.tmp (both 0bytes) are saved.
So I looked online for answers. Trashed settings, uninstalled/reinstalled PS CS3. Nothing worked, so I looked for more. Finally got one solution that worked: Edit > Preferences > File Handling > Uncheck Enable Version Cue. It kinda solved just Problem 1, for web images: KINDA because I get the same error messages on problem 1, but when I check the folder, PNG file IS saved (though filename.png.tmp and TMP34ee.tmp are still saved along that).
*** When I close PS CS3 and open it, sometimes Enable Version Cue is ~magically~ checked again and I have to uncheck it, sometimes it's good. So I can live with that as long as my PNG & JPGs can be saved.
PROBLEM #2 is still unsolved, & I'm still desperate for answers. Can anyone help me? Like I said, I've tried trashing the settings, uninstall/reinstall, updated Flash, nothing worked. And I can save PSDs until two weeks ago.
    Help me please...

That sounds like something outside of Photoshop is interfereing with file saving.
None of what you describe should be possible with a clean copy of Photoshop.
But bad anti-virus, disk compression utilities, etc. could cause behaviors like that.

  • Photo EXIF gone when editing LR files with Photoshop CS3

All I get is somethink like "edited in external application." How can I regain or retain original data (from Nikon D200 RAW files)?

Using LR 1.31. After editing, "Save" command used in CS3, which moves a copy back into Lightroom. (LR set up to stack CS3's edits, which possibly is relevant per Adobe KB 333740.) Files enter LR from memory card in DNG format and return from Photoshop in PSD. (Setup problem?) Using PS 10.0.

  • Editing MP4 files in CS6 then importing into Premiere Elements 13

    Add On..
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running?
If your Photoshop CS6 comes with Bridge, I am wondering if there is a way to go from
CS6 Bridge to Elements Organizer 13. From Elements Organizer 13, you could import from there
into the Premiere Elements 13 Editor.
    Quick results...
Photoshop CS5.1 Extended, File Menu/Export/Render Video
    File Menu/Browse in Bridge
Right click .mp4 export in Bridge, select Open With, select Adobe Premiere Elements 13 which needs to be set as default.
Seems 13 is opening but without the .mp4.
    More later.

  • Photoshop cc - can't save after edits

Simply cannot save an image, after editing.

Ok, I think the key here is save as vs. save. What I am thinking is the original file is set to read only. Meaning you can not save over top of that file, but you can use save as and create a new file.
In windows explorer locate the file you are opening, then right click on it and see if read only is enabled.

  • Edit LR file in Photoshop

I would like to edit a file in PS possibly using layers. Then come back later, select the file in LR, go to edit in PS, and be able to edit the file with the layer structure in place and the lightroom adjustments in effect. At present this seems impossible. I have to choose to edit with the layers, or without the LR changes. Makes no sense.
It seems if you want to do some layer editing and not flatten the file yet, you just need to export out of LR and complete the function in PS.
    Am I missing something?

Unfortunately you can't. You're not missing anything.

  • Has anyone updated Photoshop and can't save files.

I just updated photoshop CC and now I can't save changes to my files.

No, but before anyone can help you, you'll need to tell us what version of Photoshop you are using, and what your new update status is. Plus we need to know what your operating system is.
    [edit]
Whoops.  Just noticed that you mention CC, so I guess you are talking about 14.1.  So what is your OS?

  • Open G4-Compressed Tif file in photoshop

Hello, I'm looking for a Plug-In to open G4-Compressed Tiff files in photoshop. Anyone knows?

What problem are you seeing when trying to open your G4 compressed files?

  • Photoshop CS6 - Can't save anything

So I can save PSD fine, and I can save as TIF, but TIF is huge. I tried to save as GIF, PNG, and JPEG, but none worked. It gives me the little yellow exclamation mark and says I can only save as a copy. I have RGB color mode on, and it is in 8 bit.

What version of photoshop are you using?
Since layers cannot be saved in the gif, png,and jpeg file formats, the little yellow exclamation point only means photoshop will save a flattened version of your file, hence the word Copy.
(the file should look the same after saving and the original will still be open in photoshop)
If you need to save the file exactly as is in photoshop for later editing, then psd or tiff are the best file formats.

  • Photoshop CS4 can't save as Photoshop PDF

I am trying to save a multi-layer Photoshop CS4 document as a Photoshop PDF file with embedded color profile. Everything is set to the default except for compatibility which I set as Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) . The progress bar for writing the file proceeds as normal until the very end at which point it gives an error.
It is very inconsistent as some documents I can save just fine and others I get the following error:
"Could not save as "RPS Poster" because of a program error."
This is very frustrating as it has no rhyme or reason. One file I was able to fix the problem by re-creating one of the layers. I have had many other problems with CS4 running on Snow Leopard and it appears that the CS4 Design suite was not fully tested before its release.

I have had many other problems with CS4 running on Snow Leopard and it appears that the CS4 Design suite was not fully tested before its release.
Yeah, funny how Adobe failed to test their programs on an OS that wasn’t out when they released the suite …
Have You updated all components to the latest versions yet?
    As for the pdf-problem:
What are these default settings exactly?
What are the layers that may be the culprits – normal pixel layers, type, adjustments, groups, smart objects, …?
Have You tried saving without »Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities« (naturally one should then additionally keep the layered psd)?
And as with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems You might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences You’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
