Editing Title "Spin" in FCPX

How do I add more "Text Lines" (e.g., Text Line 5) for more title words? I have tried this within FCPX but found no way of doing it.

Since the timing of the texts is consistent throughout, you can place two Spin title instances end to end together in the storyline. To make the end of the first one match up with the beginning (previous lines fade out and drift away) of the second one, place a default Cross Dissolve transition between the two (1 second 15 frames duration seems to work quite well). If you can't use up all eight combined text entries, delete the text lines you don't need from the end. If you try to trim the second title instance, you will speed up the timing on the animation. To get around that, select both title instances (with the transition) and create a compound clip. Delete the titles from the storyline, add the compound clip, and trim the end as needed.

why does fcpx crash every time i try to edit titles/text?? I'm trying to wrap up a project for work and now fcpx thinks it needs to crash every time i click on a "title" to edit it. It's making the completion of this project nearly impossible.

nope, i'm just using the select tool "a" to move my titles .. if the inspector is open, the second i click on any title in any project the whole program crashes. but with the inspector closed i can move my titles at will without a crash. i'm not sure what's allowing me to manipulate titles since you've said Lion updates haven't fixed this function. and i'm not sure what's making fcpx crash to the ground every time i click a title with the inpector open. all i know is that this little loophole i've found is working for me and has allowed me to complete my project this morning which is awesome.

the trouble is that on the spine of the book the title is cut off and I don't know how avoid it.
I don't think you can, Fred. Pick a shorter title. And add the additional information by adding a subtitle on your title page. You can always add a second text box, using the "edit layout" panel.

10.1.1 crashes when editing title

in the last 24h my fcpx crashed/freezes 6 times... the project is not that big, multicam setup... it accured mostly when i copy/edit titles...

Fcpx wants to be a professional solution and i shouldn't be able to store my libraries in a way it comforts my workflow?? How that can be an issue?

HOW TO EDITING TITLES IN TIMELINE ON A MAC

I am a pc but im trying a mac and is different in short cuts. My question is how can I edit titles once they are in the timeline?

Should not matter if you are on a Mac or a PC.
Double click the title in the Project Panel or in a Timeline Panel.

Editing titles or clicking on clips causes serious error

Problem with new mac mini (purchased two days ago), no problem on iMac (with
same software install, checked with system profiler). Tried with two mac minis
(replaced the just purchased one with a replacement after a discussion with a genius)

Editing titles/text, changing titles/back ground lengths causes. Could be associated with generally clicking on clips (possibly double clicking)
1) Loss of control of inspector window
2) Inability to share the video (the options are greyed out)
3) Inability to return to the project selection window
4) Inability to add more titles/backgrounds
5) Inspector seems trapped in a strange state, unable to close
iMovie reports the following messages via console(as example)
18/05/2009 16:23:11 iMovie[325] NSMutableRLEArray objectAtIndex:effectiveRange:: Out of bounds
this error repeats many times.

back up your site.
open your site in dw, open any page in question and do a ctrl
f .
you will have a find a replace window pop up
the "find in menu" select "Entire current local site"
paste <title>Untitled Document</title> inside the
FIND area or what ever you
have there that needs to be changed throught out your site.
it the replace window paste <title>guinness or what
ever</title>
then by clicking replace all, all reference to
<title>Untitled
Document</title> in your current local site will be
changed to
<title>guinness or what ever</title>

Can anyone edit title fonts and sizes in iMovie 10?

Trying to edit title fonts and sizes in iMovie 10 but font drop down does not respond. Tried a couple of different style titles with same results. Anyone else have this problem?

Now i have another 10 to do but have no room on that drive.
So i have been using my new 2tb drive to do the next 10 films with the footage on that drive, but i need elements from the first 20 films ie; graphics, common film elements etc to be added to the new 10 films.
So I have copied all the footage, events and project folders from the 20 edited films over to my 2tb drive in a separate folder - ejected the 250gb drive (as i only have 2 thunderbolt slots and one is used for a 27 inch monitor on my macbook pro)
.......my question is how do i load all of the 20 films into my project library so i can see all of the 30 films at once so i can copy and paste form one film to another - is this possible? and withlout messing up lol

by concept, there's Events and there's Projects.
Events and Projects can be internal or on any ext. drive.
You can use any Event in any Project.
… so, why is the 'location' of your files on any relevance for your Projects ??
Or, do you want to re-import done-Projects as 'Events'? Export,Import, done… (??)

Can't edit title text in Final Cut Pro X

Okay I'm seriously about ready to pull my hair out. Every time I go to edit text, FCPX crashes. Now I have to close the inspector before editing text for it to not crash...and that works sometimes. But now I have a new problem. After exporting my movie, I noticed I needed to make some adjustments to titles... Tried double clicking the text in the viewer...it doesn't even let me edit it anymore! Really? Why would you even release this Apple? Final Cut Pro X is clearly not finished. What a joke.

It seems I have nearly the same problem. The simple fact of selecting the title in the project or in the project library crashes FinalCut Pro.
I thought it was caused by the accended frensh characters, like for an imported iMovie Project, but this is not the case. Even without accended characters, the crash is systematic.
Thanks a lot for the idea of closing the inspector! Now I can work with titles (sometimes at all) without crashing
The good news is: I can edit the title, even when re-opening the project later, if I:
1. Select the title element with the inspector closed
2. Open the inspector
3. Modify some parameters like the colors of the titles.
N.B.
- The first time I did it, the inspector opened, empty, on the left side of the screen !?!
- It works even in the precedent little project wich I encountered the bug
- I can edit too in the viewer.

Adding titles/project to FCPX from Motion 5...

I suppose this question could go in the Motion forum or FCPX, but it seems to belong here more, I think.
I've created a brief project (about 14 seconds) in Motion 5 that I want to put at the beginning of videos I edit in FCPX. It's just some titles that come across te screen with some animation and sound effects. I don't need the ability to edit the Motion project within FCPX (it will remain the same every time I use it).
What is the best way to use it in FCPX? I'm guessing that maybe I should output it as some particular type of video file and add it each time to my FCPX videos from the Event Browser just like it was video footage? Any advice as to file type, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

Another alternative is to publish the M5 project as a FCP generator.
I use that approach with opens for a couple of reasons: easier to locate (for my set up); and on occasion I may need to tweak something for a specific show in the future in some unanticipated way.

Effects Titles lock up FCPX / 10.8.2

Just got a new imac i7, 16gb RAM, Fusion Drive, GTX680mx, events and projects on Promise R6, FCPX version 10.0.7
Seem to have the most issues with placing effects on h.264 1080p footage, started to optimize imported footage or convert to .mov, but it still seems random.
However, everytime I try and place a title effect pixie dust or far far away the entire computer locks up. Mouse will not respond, can not force quit, have to end up holding power button down. This will happen if I place the effect on an empty timeline, but does not lock up until I edit the effect, change font or color.
I've deleted the fcpx preference, checked the font book.
Could it be the fusion drive? I already have about 400gb of data on the drive.

I just tried to replicate your problem. Could not. (See screen shot. I changed the parameters, etc.) Since it's brand new... (and I'm sure you have AppleCare) I'd call and ask for ProApp support. This seems odd. You've plenty of RAM and proc power. My only question would be, how much headroom do you have above that 400 gigs? (The expert users say you should have at least 20% to spare.) But, again... I'd call Apple Care on this one.
I've no experience with "Fusion." Supposedly, it can "virtually" split into two drives... distancing your App from media, etc.

How can I edit .avi files in FCPX?

What's the best way to convert .avi files so they can be edited in FCPX and then "shared" with iPad and Apple TV2? Definition of best meaning least amount of time and effort without noticeable degradation of quality. I'm an advanced amateur photographer with increasing interest in video but limited knowledge of the technical aspects.
Now shooting HD with a DSLR camera but have over 100 hours of home/family video taken with Canon GL1 (mini-DV tape) then captured using Sony Vegas Pro. Captured files are .avi, NTSC, 29.97, 720x480, interlaced, 15 minutes or less duration.
Re-capturing original DV tapes to FCPX would be very time consuming. Don't know why but Vegas Pro 8 running on my older PC (Windows XP) refuses to render out to any of the QuickTime presets including uncompressed. Have Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, FCPX and Compressor running on new iMac.
My "trial and error" approach isn't working. Main problem seems to be with de-interlacing. Have converted .avi files to ProRes 422 using both Adobe Media Encoder and Apple Compressor. Interlacing "jaggies" are apparent with both when edited in FCPX. Jaggies can be eliminated using combinations of "progressive" field order and "blend frame" output option but this results in artifacts and/or noticeably soft image. Best results so far are by converting .avi to ProRes 422 using Adobe preset (lower field first) then using Apple Compressor's "Apple Device: SD for iPad …" output preset to convert the ProRes 422 to .m2v. Still seems a little fuzzy on iPad but maybe my eyes are just wearing out from all the hours I've spent on this problem.

MPEG-4 isn't nearly enough information. There are many other factors that determine whether it will work in FCP. Many MPEG-4 files can be imported and optimized directly into the application.
