Editing two or more clips at once

How can you edit 2 or more clips at the same time? I have a lot of clips on one timeline that I would like to add motion (change scale) at one time. Is there a way to do this?

Yes. Copy a clip that has the attibutes you desire to be placed on the other clips.
Choose one or more clips in the Timeline, right click and select Paste Attributes.
Choose the attributes you want to paste from the lists.
In your case Basic Motion.

PRE9: How to split one clip into two (or more) clips?

You don't necessarily need to separate the file into individual clips. When you do a cut on the timeline, this is a virtual cut, leaving the original file untouched but determining what will appear in the output. You can split the clip into multiple pieces, delete the bits you don't want, add transitions, insert new bits, whatever you want, all without affecting the original file in any way. Once you're happy, you output a new file using the Share options, and you get a new video file, with your original files still untouched.
If you want to split your file into multiple individual files, you can use the sliders on the time scale, and export (Share) using the Share Work Area Only checkbox. If you're doing this for purposes of reassembly, it would be better to save the individual clips in as lossless a format as possible, the default AVI format taking considerably more space but not losing quality. Hint: the sliders can be positioned to the time marker using Alt-[ and Alt-]. Once you've done this, note that your original file will still be there, untouched.
There is also VideoRedo Plus, a cheap program which gives frame-accurate selection and allows rapid subdivision of a piece of footage. It doesn't re-render as PE9 would (this is where loss of image quality creeps in using compressed formats such as MPEG), copying the original frames. You can then reassemble the bits using your video editor.

Fade AV over two or more clips

As per title really. If I select multiple clips and choose fade AV, then each clip is individually faded (the yellow bar is a bit like a sawtooth. Rather than manually play with the yellow bar until it approximates a straight ramp over several clips, can I do this automatically? I'm using PE9.

Are you talking about "fading" the Audio, or the Video?
While there can be similarities, in the operation, there are some differences, as well.
For Video, Steve's suggestion to use Opacity Keyframes over the two Clips is a good one.
Also, you can set the WAB (Work Area Bar) over those two Clips, and Export/Share, to say DV-AVI for SD material, limiting that Export/Share to just the WAB. Then, Import that resulting AV file into the Project, and use it to replace the two on the Timeline. That will allow one to easily Keyframe the Opacity, over the Duration of the combined Clips. That is easier, IMHO, to trying to match the Opacity, though with the % numbers, that is not so difficult either.
If you wish to do this with Audio, I would suggest looking at the Audio Mixer, as it will apply Track Keyframes, to "fade" the Volume over time, and as it's for the entire Audio Track, can span Clips. I do recommend dropping the frequency of Track Keyframes down, from the defalut.

Simple, basic issue - Sending a few clips at once from FCP to STP and back.

Hi,
I'm working on a 20 minute video, already cut, hoping to do some simple sound reduction on a few clips.
One scene has two video clips from the same camera shot, wind noise on the audio.
Can I send two or more clips to STP at the same time?
When I try that, the whole 1 hour tape (I did a batch capture) appears in the STP timeline.
Is there a way to send the clips so only those clips go to STP, not the whole original clip in the browser?
Once I do the noise reduction, why can't I get it to automatically apply to the clips in FCP?
I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
Any ideas, anyone?

Multi-track projects won't behave like audio file projects, with automatic updates in FCP. Once you have saved the project, export a mix, and you can send it back to your FCP timeline in the dialog box.

Editing two domains at the same time

Something curious happended today. I am using Lion and the "Choose a domain" application that has been posted here, which by the way works great. However, I did something today, not sure what, and found two domains open simultaneously. Suspecting that something had gone wrong, I immedialy closed one. Has someone else used this tool to open two or more domains at once and edit them on separate windows? Is this a safe thing to do or could it somehow corrupt one of the domains?

Editing two images simultaneaously

Is there a way to have two Images open in Photoshop CS2 and edit them at the same time such that if you change say the contrast value of the first photo, it will change the contrast value of the second photo to the same value? Looking to edit 2 or more photos at once such that what is done to one photo also is done to the second photo. Thanks.

If you don't need to see the edits made to the other photos in real time, do them in adjustment layers and drag them over. For example, on the first image, add a Curves adjustment layer and make your contrast adjustment. When you're done, you simply drag that adjustment layer to the second image and drop it there, and the same adjustment is applied to the second image.
If you need to apply multiple adjustment layers, you may find it easiest to create a layer group to contain all of the adjustment layers. When you're done just drag the entire group to any other images that need the same adjustments.

How to apply effect to more than one clip at once

Is there a way to select a number of clips and apply an effect (like three-way color correction) to all clips at once? Right now I can only double-click on one clip and touch up one at a time.
On a similar note, my photo editing software has something called "tone curve adjustment" which is the best device I've used for adding light to a dark image without losing integrity and quality. Any idea what the closest thing to that would be in FCP? Adding brightness flattens out the image and makes it milky and grainy. Could it be that I should avoid whites and middles and concentrate on black and saturation?

Question 1:
Copy the clip with the color correction.
Select all the target clips.
Control-click on the selected clips and choose "Paste Attributes".
In dialog box, select "Audio Filters"
If you want to keep working the CC later,
it might be easier to nest the clips.
Option-double-click on the nested clips
and apply global effects to all of them at once.
Question 2:
This is something like Photoshop's Curves with the menu set to RGB?
Working with dark footage, I often use the Color Corrector 3-Way
and boost the Mids level a bit. If that pushes the Whites too much,
pull them down.
I often "crush the blacks" by using a second 3-way, using Limit Effect
with Luma only, selecting only the darkest parts of the image,
and pulling the Blacks down to minimum. That makes the whole image
more dramtic, and reduces the effect of noise when you compress it
for DVD or web delivery.

Which codec for 1024 x 768 clips (mainly Photographs in two or more layers)

I want to create a Rearprojection as a background for a theatre play. The footage is mainly high resolution photographs which I edited in photoshop. I want to use two or more layers with transparant areas (eg. a wall with windows and a moving landscape behind the wall. Through the windows you can see the landscape).
The projector works with a resolution of 1024 x 768 and therefore the videoclips should have the same resolution.
As the clips will be looped and are quite short (from 1 to max. 5 minutes) the size of the videofiles doesn´t have to be very small.
Which codec should I use to achieve good quality?

I will use either Final Cut Pro directly or a Video Player named Qlab.
The footage will be put on a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo which is connected with the video projector via a 5x BNC (RGBHV)-cable.

I created two "sequences". They are currently listed individually in the "project library". Now I want to take sequence "B" and attatch it in it's entirety to the end of sequence "A" - forming one long sequence.
I have tried to drag sequence "B" and drop it into "A's" timeline. I have tried to creat a compound clip. I'm either missing something - or - you can create a compound "clip" or a compound "event" - but perhaps you cannot link to "projects" together.
Does this help descibe my problem?

Bug: when you have two or more reminder pop-ups on BB10, you can't edit 2 or more of them because the second and beyond are lost...

I notice that when you have two or more reminder pop-ups on BB10 (tasks, calendar, etc.), you can't edit 2 or more of these because the second and beyond get lost and will never pop-up again.

To better understand your issue, for example If you have two reminders and select 'View Event Details' on the 1st reminder, does the 2st reminder popup before the Details of the1st reminder displays?

Two or more users editing the same script file in cq5, is it possible?

In cq5 is possible two or more users editing the same jsp file? There is a lock system preventing simultaneous editing of the same file?

Two or more people editing at the same time

Dear All,
I am planning to purchase FCP Server, and I am just in a very beginning of consideration.
Immediately, I am wondering if FCP Server can let two or more people editing on the same project at the same time.
I know it has Check-in function, and it seems to me that it just takes the project to another computer to do editing. What if another person wants to do editing on the same project?
Also, if it allows us many people to do editing on the same project, can we save the project at the same time on the same computer installed FCP Server?
Please advise.

In Final Cut Server (FCSvr) checking out a Final Cut Pro project (FCProj) creates a copy of the project file at a location you specify saving it to on your local computer. When you check out a FCProj, the project asset is locked and cannot be modified by other users. Additionally, every media asset that is used in the project is locked from being modified by other users.
However in a you're trying to have multiple users work on and edit the same project, I'd suggest start by duplicating the FCProj asset within FCSvr. Maybe start with a master capture / digitize project that contains all the media needed to work on by both editor. This will allow for multiple editors to have access to the same project media assets. In any scenario where multiple editors are collaborating, I'd suggest have them also work on separate project file and maybe split / divi up the work, based on scene, act etc.
Sequences can be easily merge between project later.

Multicam edit does not generate clips

Trying to do a multicam edit.Two cameras. When going through the process of selecting cam 1 or cam 2 the small blue marker appears on the timeline as it should. Once I have completed my selection the blue markers just disappear and no individual clips are made.
Any help will be more than welcome.

As Kevan noted you may be using the "switch" function as opposed to the "edit" function. If you're using keyboard shortcuts, then to make an edit to angle 1 means you would select cmd-1
If it's not that then make sure you don't have a locked track somewhere in the mix. I wonder if you may even have deselected the auto-select button (not sure if that would impact it or not)
Barring these suggestions you may just simply try trashing preferences, repairing permissions and re-booting the computer.

How to lengthen multiple clips at once

I'm working on a project that has seven tracks of video.
And every time i need to align all the tracks exactly the same length i have to
separately stretch each clip with the mouse.
I know there's quick way to make all seven tracks the same length with
just one click. Okay, maybe two clicks. Can someone tell me please?
Also, if I have a dip to color at the end of each of the seven clips on the seven tracks, do i need to remove each effect before I can lengthen the all the clips?
that seems is a very time consuming way to do it, and I 'm sure there's got to be a way to do that with a couple of clicks too.

okay, i tried it and it works.
However, you still have to do one clip at a time.
Isn't there a way to extend the seven clips at once?
also, I have dissolves at the end of each of the seven clips,
however, the extend doesn't work with dissolves at the end.
I can't really select the end of a clip with a dissolve in it.
But I tried it anyway, and hit the "e" key, but nothing happened.
So, the extend edit works fine, but shouldn't there be a way to
extend more than one clip at the same time? and not have to take out
the dissolves one at a time, in order to do an extend?
Or.. maybe I'm missing something?
