Editing video in native video sizes - Premiere CS3/CS4

How do I edit with non-specific video sizes such as 640x360 which my still camera captures video to? Everything in Prem CS3 or CS4 seems to be preset editting size environments? I would like to edit the video in it's native resolution and output in it's native resolution.
Thanks in advance...............

========
That is what my feeble memory is telling me too: CS3 was per Project, and the "Custom" was called Desktop Mode, where the attributes could be altered to suit
========
thats how it works with my cs3... and as you need to match the source in that desktop mode ( and even choose a rendering codec )..its a good idea to use mediainfo or gspot and make notes about video and audio as necessary so that when you 'duplicate' that in the desktop ( custom ) settings you get the right project settings.

  • Editing H.264 .mp4 files in premiere pro cs4?

I recently got a GoPro HD Hero camera, and i've been shooting in 720 and 60i, the files that come off of the camera are in .mp4 format, and when i import them into premiere pro cs4 i can hear the sound but all i see is a solid green screen, can anyone shed some light on this problem?

I cant even get it to import to CS4
On both my desktop and laptop.
    It crashes and just hangs.
I tried CS3 but it would not even try to import saying not a suported format.
im updating to the new 4.2.1 to see if that works.
my compter is a few years old and it doesnt like HD.
    I can play HDV.
Even just playing yours in my media player it is having a hard time keeping up.
It plays fine on the laptop in the player so that is the one updating now.
Even G-Spot says that the codec is undetermened.

  • Urgent friends ,, video playback problem in adobe premiere pro cs4

i have installed pro cs4 , i converted a mov video file as wmv file and imported in the procs4,,,, the problem is when i play the video in the time line (ie.in  the editing pane ) to edit the video,,,, its getting stuck.... the video is abt 40 sec, but after 2o sec its getting stucked and play..... what is the problem friends pls help me....

Smooth playback can depend on many factors.
First, converting to WMV is not the best choice, as WMV's are heavily compressed, and require more "horsepower" to decode and work with. If your material is SD, say 720 x 480 for NTSC, the DV-AVI would be a better choice there.
Rendering the Timeline, if one has red lines above the Clip(s) in the Timeline, will get playback, as smooth, as is possible.
One's computer can have a big, big impact on how well one can playback the Timeline. Can you list the complete computer's specs.?

  • Problem with export size @ Premiere CS3

Hello, I have a problem that until recently did not bother me so much and that the final export @ the premierCS3 ( also @ CS4 and CS5 )
The films I make are 5-10 minutes long, so usualy the final size is big, but still not THAT BIG! and i can work with this size.
Lately  I've edited a feature film and the final export is 25GB and it simply  intolerable that even after encodings using simple software I got to 7Gb and quality went down significantly.
How do I solve this trouble? I do not think that movie that long (1h:45m) should be bigger than 1GB!!
    Hope you can help me
    Wishing you a good week,
    ROEi.

Go to the PPro FAQ List http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/faq_list and read about export options
A DV AVI file is about 13Gig per hour... export size is determined by the CODEC and compression used, plus the data rate
Some CODECS have better compression than others, and a higher data rate will create a larger file
You need to tell what CODEC you are using for export, and what data rate

  • Editing Canon 600D DSLR footage in Premiere Pro CS4

I am considering purchasing the new Canon 600D DSLR camera to capture HD video files. I understand that this camera captures H.264 video files but am getting very confused as to whether or not CS4 can edit this file type.
Some websites say I need to get CS5 and CS4 can't handle these files while others say CS4 will work just fine (and yet others say I need to transcode the files into a new file format for CS4 to use!).
I'm more than a little confused... please can someone from here give me some help? Is there anyone using a DSLR with CS4?If so please let me know how...
    Thanks for reading :-)

I believe CS4 has trouble handling H.264 wrapped in a mov, so its not so much the camera itself.
You could consider getting Cineform Neoscene to convert the files and edit with Cineform avi's.

  • Premiere Cs3 Importing mp4 at incorrect framerates, how do I fix this?

I'm using Open Broadcast Software to record mp4 videos. I'm using Premiere Cs3 to edit those videos.
I had made a few changes to the settings in OBS to make streaming to twitch better, but after reverting my settings to record rather than stream I'm running into a problem. When I import mp4 videos I made after this point, Premiere interprets the footage as if it was shot at 1,000 fps instead of the 60fps I shot it at. I know I can reinterpret the footage at 60 fps but this causes problems, like dropping the audio and looping/distorting random frames.
I wasn't having this problem before. I'm a bit of a novice, and this is all way over my head.

MP4 is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

  • Capturing HDV using Adobe Premiere CS3 - more than 20 minutes of video

    Hello,
I'm facing a weird situation with Adobe premiere CS3, I use a canon XH-A1 video camera to capture video & recently started using adobe premiere for editing, the issue is if I start to capture HD video for more than 20 minutes, adobe is not able to capture the video (shows a red screen), but it works fine, if I capture upto 20 minutes of video.
I have in the past had to break down a single tape into 3 halves, to successfully capture the video, this is NOT the ideal way, as I have to babysit the video capture, to limit the capture to 20 minutes & restart it.
Has anyone faced this error? Any advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Kalyan.

Could the reason be that you are capturing to an FAT32 format hard drive and it is only allowing you a limited maximum file size? Not sure but I think it is 4GB which would equate to 1/3 of a DV 13GB hour ...or about 20 minutes.
If that is correct, and you should be able to tell because the capture window will display the file size limit as space available during capture, you could do one of two things:
    * reformat the drive as NTFS which removes the file size limitation (I have just done this on an external drive for exactly the same reason), but do look up online instructions for this and do it carefully.
    * if the material is not long continuous shots of over 20 minutes, switch on Scene Detect during capture; it's wise to cut material up into smaller chunks in any case as huge files become very unwieldy and handling them could slow your machine right down.

  • Editing mixed format HD video in CS3

I have been successfully using Premiere CS3 with imported m2t files shot on a Sony HDR-HC3 camcorder in HD (1440x1080i with anamorphicc pixels, ratio 1.33). I now want to do a shoot with an additional camera (prossibly by purchasing a Panasonic HDC-SD600 that records on SD cards at 1920x1080 (square pixels)). Is it possible to edit video from these two sources in CS3 in the same timeline, or will I have to look for a camera that produces an identical video output to the Sony?
    Thanks for any help

    Hi,
Just to say that as a result of our conversation Ipersisted with a practical
approach to the problem and eventually managed to get a couple of Sony AVCHD
video MTS files (1920x1080) from a friend. Some investigation on the web
suggested that I could convert this to an avi file of the same dimensions
    with ImToo AVCHD converter.
I imported the avi file that resulted into Premiere Pro CS3 and was able to
place it in a separate video track on the timeline together with the
existing 1440x1080 video. It matched the project video dimensions exactly
    (1440x1080 pixels with pixel aspect ratio 1.33 -- effectively 1020x10180). I
suppose on reflection that I should not have been surprised the Premiere
acceted the fullHD avi - though in this business you never can be sure
unless you actually do the test. After import I was successfully exported
    the whole project to DVD.
I'm delighted by this outcome. It means I can purchase a modern AVCHD
camcorder (rather than an older one) and integrate its output with my
existing Sony HDR-HC3. This gives me a workable solution until I upgrade to
Premiere Pro CS5 and Blue Ray.
    All the best!

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - editing video from GoPro video camera

I am having a problem trying to edit video from the GoPro camera in Premiere Pro CS4 (PP). Have not been able to get much help from GoPro - they just tell me to speak with Adobe. I think the video codec used by the camera is MJPEG (?). It won't play at all on the timeline. Interestingly it will in After Effects (AE) CS4 and if I export it out of AE as a Microsoft AVI file I can then play it in PP. However if I go straight to Media Encoder and import the clip and then try export the clip via ME as a Microsoft AVI the exported clip from ME won't play in Premiere Pro. I am confused. Does anyone know this camera, it's codec and why it just won't work when directly imported into Premiere Pro but it will when imported directly into After Effects. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Please see a post I made this morning under my screen name BruceERoberts .... details below
I just purchase Adobe Premiere Pro a few days ago - and subsequently updated it to Ver 4.2.1.  A started a new project - I tried to import some video footage I just shot with a GOPro Hemet Cam while skiing at our local mountain.  I can easlily see the clip using Real Media Player - or the Quick Time player.  It is a 10.9 MB ... 7 second MPEG-4 movie clip.  File name is "gopro0030.mp4"
I created a "bin" called video .... then right clicked to import the file.  You can see the file name in the media browser.  But the file would not import.  I received this error message:  "109C ImporterProcessServer.exe  Application Error.  The instruction at "0x05efcac" referenced memory at "0x00000014".  The memory could not be read. CLick OK to terminate."
This is very frustrating - I just purchased the software - and it won't import a 7 second video clip!  It did import still fotos with no problem.  What can I do?
thank you for your attention to this.

  • Sharpening video in Premiere CS3

    Hi all,
I was just wondering what kind of success you all are having using the sharpening effect in Premiere CS3?
It appears that its only useful at very low levels before it starts to create visible artifacts.
Are there any procedures,  plugins or standalone apps that do a better job?

Sharpening can be a touchy subject. A little can go a long way, and too much is easy to attain.
One workflow that I employ, when visual Sharpening is needed is to first add Neat Video and adjust it accordingly. Afterwards, I'll then use Unsharp Mask, judicially. The reason for this two-step process is that Neat Video reduces the video noise (essentially the "grain" in the image), and then the Unsharp Mask is able to "sharpen" the footage without sharpening the video noise. I think that Neat Video still offers a trial. It used to be time limited only, no watermark, but check this out, as I have owned it for years, and have not seen a trial in that period of time. Render times will be impacted, but on my workstation it's not bad - maybe an extra cup of coffee, or two...

  • Adobe Premiere CS3 Keeps Shortening My Video Duration?!!?!?!?!!??!

Okay, so I'm doing a school project and adobe premiere cs3 isn't letting me show my whole videos. I have about 8 Videos that is about 6 to 10 seconds long. There is one video that is 8 seconds long but it cut it short to 6.07 seconds long. There's another video which the audio is completely off and another Video that was doing perfectly fine but then soon after, it was limited to like 7 seconds from 10 seconds. This isn't cool lol. Do I need to do something to my videos to make it not do this? My project is due on this Friday :C

    (A) Make sure your Work Area Bar or your (B) In /Out Points cover what you want to export..then check which of those options to use in the Media encoder.

  • Premiere CS3-Is there a video/Website that can show me all that it can do?

I was just wondering if anybody knew of a video/website that can show me all the effects etc of premiere cs3.I have looked through the tutorials that came with the product but feel that they don't really offer any great detail as to what the effects do or what's in the pallet.
I do realize that there are tutorials that you can pay Adobe $150 or so for but I'm looking for something a bit less expensive than that!
    Many Thanks

    Dougie,
I've not seen, what you're looking for, all in one place. I've got a myriad number of books (CS2), and have downloaded many tutorials. What it seems is that one can explore a feature at a time, and then catalog that knowledge, before moving on to the next Effect. The Help files F1 probably put as much in one place as any book in my library. Unfortunately, one needs to "read between the lines," to get the full potential of each Effect - that, and check out discussion on it here. Some of the names can be a bit confusing, and when looking to do something, picking and using the right Effect might take some time, and be partially counter-intuitive too.
One of the best ways that I've found is to experiment with the Effects, and their settings, after reading up on them in F1. Then, if things still do not seem to be working, formulate a question, "I want to do X. What Effect should I choose?" and post it here.
Going back some versions, there was a great book on the Filters in Photoshop. About 1000 pages of nothing but using the Filters in that program, plus a vast number of free and for-pay Plug-ins. Very comprehensive and all in one spot. I still drag it out, though I'm probably 5 versions of PS away from it and the list of included Filters has expanded exponentially. Wish that I could find one for Premiere.
PP does have one nice feature - the search at the top of the Effects Panel. Only problem is you need to know the name of the Effect you're looking for. F1 will help (no pun intended) there. Still, you need a Rosetta Stone to find out the one you "need," and what its official name is. Same problem often exists with the tutorials. If you know which Effect you will need, or the name of the result, i.e. "Picture in Picture," you can search for that. If all you know is what you want to accomplish, but not what it is named, not so often. Still, watching a tutorial that does not address your immediate need, will still provide you with great info that you can likely use later.
"Classroom in a Book," is a good start (as are the tutorials around) on the Tool names and uses, plus many of the Effects. It's a bit sparse in the "why," but strong on the "doing." Since NLE is a lot of "art," the "why" is important to me, and overshadows the "doing." Sometimes, the exercises do connect-the-dots a bit better, on the why end of things.
Some day, I hope to have used every Efect with every variation, and actually remember what each one did, and why I used it. Not likely until CS50 though.
I also strongly recommend spending a few days with these forums, just reading. Do not skip the previous versions, even if you have only worked in CS3. A lot of the answers apply (some with modifications, but others more directly) to later versions, especially when looking for the choice of Effects, and tailoring them to your needs. Do not forget to use the "First," and "More" links on the forum pages, as there are often many pages of responses. This will also get you up to speed on the naming conventions used. When someone calls the Transition, "Fade to Black," someone else will point out that in PP, it's "Dip to Black."
I had it easier than most, 'cause I came from a cinematography background, with many years using Photoshop for advertising print output. Still, I found that I needed a good glossary of NLE terminology, as I discovered that the language had changed, or was just different. Gotta' learn something new every day of your life.

  • Editing a R3D 4K video in Premiere Pro CS6

I'm trying to edit a R3D 4K video in PP CS6, but even after I render it the playback is very slow and jerky (jumpy). What can I do to fix this problem?
    Thank you

You should mention what hardware (cpu, memory, drives, graphics card, etc.) you are using. RED media is very demanding and a system that works well for HD may not work well at all for the bigger formats.
On a system that does not have enough ooomph to playback RED smoothly, even when the lowest playback resolution (1/8th) doesn't help, from the CS6 menu do a Sequence / Render Entire Work Area. This will take a lot longer than the quicker "enter key" render, but may provide much smoother playback on a system that cannot deal with non-rendered media in real-time.
On a technical note, RED playback without a full render really taxes the CPU(s) of your system - check out Task Manager while playing back. Once you have done a full render, you only need enough drive speed to server the larger, rendered files for playback.

    Jim
