Editing video only into timeline...

How do I drag the video only into my timeline without the audio associated with the clip coming with it?? I know simple and basic, but yeah, how?

Heya,
Load the clip into the Viewer and disconnect the source tracks by clicking the A1, A2 (or however tracks are available for the clip) tabs on the left side of the timeline. With the source tracks disconnected from the destination track in the Timeline you will only be able to apply tracks that have the source track connected to a destination track.
In the following image the clip dragged from the Viewer to the Timeline will only place the video track on the Timeline because the source audio tracks have been disconnected and they have not been given a destination.

If I mark the ins and outs of a clip and want to drag the VIDEO ONLY into the timeline how do I do it?
Most of the time I don't need the audio and it takes too long to select it and delete it.
Is there a button I hold down?

I think it stands for "detected version." When you use FW to captivate, or, as we like to say around here "batch digest," your DV, FCP automatically "sees" the format and sets everything for you.
I could be wrong, sorry, I'm just guessing at the moment. I'm not at my FCP machine where I would stop whatever I was doing and look it up for you using the online help system for the application.

Cannot drag video transitions into timeline on FCE

Just picked up FCE today and have imported an imove '09 project correctly into FCE. Transitions were able to be dragged down into timeline at first but now do not work. Have I done something wrong here?
Any help would be most appreciated.

Shortcut to add video only to timeline?

split edits are wonder tools, search in your manual for split edits for more info.
control-I creates the split video in, control-O creates the split video out and then insert or overwrite. no need to lock tracks, unpatch anything.
did i mention to search for split edits in your manual?

Imports video only to timeline

I have a situation now where when I drag camera media from bin to sequence in timeline. only the video portion but not audio comes in. a few hours ago only the first file added brought audio with it. all subsequent tracks added stacked, brought no audio. what am I doing wrong here please.

Embedding avi video clips into timeline of Flash Basic 8

Trying to add avi video to timeline along with jpeg files. In
doing so the video does not play back properly but instead slowly
progresses frame by frame at the same rate as the jpeg files. What
do I need to do in order to embed the video and have it play back
as a movie?

IMovie '11: how to move edited clips back into the event library?

I made a green screen video that is supposed to be the foreground, and edited out the ums and ahs. Now I need to add a green screen background, which apparently I cannot do after already inserting the green screen foreground footage. (I would LOVE to be able to do that, but apparently you cannot.) I have tried to drag the edited videos back into the event library, but they bounce back out, and I have checked all of the menus twice and there is no command to export to event library. Help! I need to insert a background and don't have another hour to re-edit from scratch.

No - there are no easy and straight forward way to do this - BUT
You must do as one does in iMoivie when there is a need to combine several functions.
Export out (the manipulated clip) as a full quality QuickTime movie (just this part)
Then import this as a new Event
Put this into a new project (if several effects is to be applied) or into Main movie if You only need to apply one more thing as a GreenScreen.
For several effects - one might need to Export/Import several times. Much easier in FinalCut Pro.

Why does adobe premier elements render my video everytime i change something in it even when i have lots more of the video to edit? other editing software only seems to render at the start then lets you edit until your ready to save at the end. Constant

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running? It will not influence my answer but will give me information in case I need to get into version specifics to detail my answer further.
Timeline rendering is a preview matter. It does not fix anything, but it is your window of opportunity to catch of problem sooner than latter. If the Timeline rendering indicator displays orange (11 or higher) for the line above the Timeline content, that is the project telling you that you are not getting the best possible preview of the playback of that content in the Edit area monitor. And, every time you edit a file, you have altered the file from the time before. So, if you want to see the best possible for what you now have, you Timeline render. This is particularly helpful when you are dealing with titles, effects, transitions, and non native formats. You cannot turn off the Timeline render indicator system, at least none that I have ever found nor seen reported. You can do selective Timeline rendering by having the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar span only the Timeline segment that you want Timeline rendered.
Consequently, you either ignore the Timeline render indicator system, move on in the project, and take your chances in the outcome or you Timeline render to get your best possible preview if the Timeline render indicator is suggesting that you do so.
I am not approving or disapproving of this project feature, just commenting on the what is.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. If you want to have your voice heard at Adobe, you might consider filing an Adobe Feature Request Bug Report Form.

Add On...it is also possible to do Timeline rendering in a project, save close the project, and reopen it to find your previously "green" lined content now "orange", indicating unrendered. Yet the preview files generated originally by Timeline rendering are still existing in their hard drive save location. That is another story for other time.

Video Export Is Blurry Only After Editing Video

I am very new to Premiere, but I understand that when you convert a file it needs to have similar dimensions or you loose quality. I am trying to edit an AVI file to cut out some parts, and then re-encode the file as an MP4. If I import the file into Premiere and immediately export it to an MP4 the quality is perfect. I can read the text perfectly. If I edit out any part of that video and export it again the quality is terrible and blurry.

The only thing i changed was to edit part of the clip. Any idea if this is a bug, or is there a setting change I should look at. Remeber I change nothing other than editing out part of the clip.

Exactly what is inside that AVI wrapper, and what is your project setting?

Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

Video Distortion when clip is dropped into timeline

My system: Windows 7 64 bit.
Intel Core I5-2500k [email protected] (4 CPUs)
Memory: 8 Gigs RAM
I am new to using Premiere Elements 10 as this is the first video editing program I have ever worked with however I am very computer literate.
Problem: I have numerous video clips I shot with my camera. I decided to make a project for the fist time using a bunch of clips I shot from a dog show. All of the clips that I shot were in the same format of AVC HD 24M (FX), 1920x1080 (60i). Most of the clips are a few mintues long but two were shot at max video time of 29 mintues (shot with a camera Sony DSC-HX100V). When I dropped these into the timeline and did the smart trim option the video had lighting issues such as flickering and the black images had static. NOTE: I have been successful in getting these two video clips to come out in great quality after trimming when I did this in a separate project by itself.
If I view the vidoes in the project are they play perfectly, its just when I drop them into timeline and trim them that I get the lower quality issues. I have about 20 vidoe clips in the timeline that before trimming are about an hour and a half. After trimming the movie is about 30 mintus. Every clip is great except the two that are longer in length.
Being a new user I am sure I must be doing something wrong. Please help.

Do you have a redline across the top of the timeline when you first import the clips?
If yes does it run -
the whole length of the timeline? If so you have chosen the wrong project setting.
only across some segments. If yes you are using mixed footage. Press [Enter] to render the redline clips. When done the redline clips will go green and you should get a smoother preview playback.
Note that the render is only to make previews smoother. You don't have to do it as, when you share the footage, the whole project will be rendered. Also note that as you apply effects to a clip it will show a redline across that clip and for smooth preview you should render ( Press [Enter] ).

How can I keep the edited video which in project into Libray for re-edit later ??
As i used i movie 06 before....
after i imported the videos in to the library, then i can drag the videos to the timeline(now is project)
then edit it.
After that i can just drag all the timeline clips which is edited to the library.So I can keep it for next time if i wanna re-edit.
But Now if did all the editing at the library clips then drag to project, i can not drag the project clips back to library, so how can i keep it for my editing safty?
I do not wanna to edit again the same clips from the library!!! as i need to edit many different short clips together then export to individual videos, and i may need to re-edit.
or i can keep the edited video in project, then i can selected the clips which i willing to export, the rest video who in the project will not be export at the same video? I m wondering....
please help!!! Urgent!!

Just keep the project. Then you can just duplicate the project and make the next set of changes as needed. By duplicating the project, you are not duplicating the event, just the links to the event library.
This way you are not eating up disk space.

Timeline won't play video, only audio

I just switched computers recently (windows 7 to Windows 7) and when I re-installed Premiere CS5.5 on my new computer the video in the timeline wouldn't play.
The timeline video box just shows a media offline graphic even after all the media was reconnected.
When I press play, the playhead moves, but it will only play the audio and only shows the media offline graphic for the video. I tested a few of the clips to see if they'd play in the source monitor, and all of them played fine. It's just the timeline video window that won't play.
It started working yesterday for some reason I don't know, but when I reopened the program it was back to the same problem.
I've looked at a ton of posts, but none of them seem to have this same problem.

There are 2 main types of video in the project I'm editing: h.264 (MOV) from a Canon T3i DSLR, and MPEG-2 from an HDV Camcorder. None of the videos will play video in the timeline monitor, but the playhead moves and the audio plays (the video just shows a media offline graphic, although all the media is connected). All videos will play in the source monitor regardless of codec. This leads me to believe that codec issues are not the problem.

I have updated to the latest nvidia driver in the past week. There was another thread similar to my problem (http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/205/874787) where the guy figured out it was because he had 2 graphics cards, and that his timeline monitor was running off the wrong one. However, his description of what he did to fix it was not very clear, or at least not for my amount of knowledge.
There was another thread where someone said to downgrade to an older driver, and that didn't work either. here's a

As Tom states, that's interlacing.
Interlacing was invented when the TV was born, to carry 1/5 the frame with each Hz of the electricity rating. In the US, that's why you use 30 fps (or 29.nnn) in the US and we use 25 fps in europe as the electricity is 60Hz/50Hz.
Interlaced video should ONLY (I repeat ONLY) be used for analog TV signal transports.
Each and every digital TV set today, including all the computer screens, is Progressive, updating the full frame at each screen refresh. And most TV's even refresh much quicker, newest TV's refresh a 800Hz..! (giving then problems with the newest LTE spectums..)
If your source media in interlaced, ask why! And stop shooting interlaced.. ;-)
If you have interlaced video, make sure you apply the DeInterlace setting when you import and transcode it.

Only audio inserted into timeline

I have a pretty severe problem with FCPX. All this just started this morning. When inserting footage from my event into the timeline, it only brings in the audio portion even though the clip is A/V media. I know that shift+1 should change the source media option to all, but it doesn't work. I've tried changing the source media import option on the bar and in the menus and it won't select the all or video only option. They aren't greyed out or anything, it just won't move the check mark off of audio only. I can insert stills and media that don't have an audio track fine. I've reset my prefs and restarted my computer several times. On a possibly unrelated note, on one of my restarts it took me to the grey screen of death(with all the languages) that forced a restart. Could this be a logic board issue?

TThat could be a hardware problem. Start by posting some screen shots of what's happening in FCP.
