Editing websites created in Frontpage on a PC in my iMac

We recently bought an iMac. WE have several websites that we previously created and maintained on our pC using Frontpage. Now that we have the iMac, how can we edit them. Will iWeb allow us to edit these pages?

Will this feature will ever be available in iWeb? Doubtful. We have gone through several incarnations now.
I don't know how it is in Frontpage, but the iWeb code is too complex to mess with very much. Have you looked at the source code? If it is simple table-based code it is very easy to edit with an html editor. I use Pagespinner but you could even use the freebies on the list to edit the code. (Taco Editor comes to mind.) Depending on the code it will take some knowledge of html.
Some items on the page could be pasted into an html snippet but with the ease of use of IWeb why bother? It is almost easier to recreate the page from scratch. For me, iWeb is the best thing since sliced bread. I can't believe how easy it is to create and maintain a website.
Note: You can also install and run Windows on all of the newer macs. (Ugh! Welcome to the world of security problems and headaches. ) Frontpage could be run on your mac if you still have the software.

  • Editing Website Created in FrontPage; Freeware Option?

An acquaintence in another city has me about 80% of the way there to creating a website that is needed in short order. She created it using FrontPage and emailed all the files to me. I now need to make some modifications...changing some text, eliminating some pages, etc. I don't think it's anything "big", but I have two problems: I've never done any web publishing before and I don't own FrontPage.
What are my options? Looks like even tracking down a copy of FrontPage will be tough (a local library's website said it had the software on a public computer, but it turns out they don't). Should we just hire someone out of the yellow pages? Is there Freeware (could work on Mac or Win) that I can download to work on the FrontPage created files I have? Any other ideas?
    Thanks.

Here's one list to web editors:

If you know html, you can use any texteditor, including TextEdit. Otherwise yoiu might try Nvu, which is free.

  • How do I import a website created using Frontpage into Dreamweaver

How do I import a website created using Frontpage into Dreamweaver?

Nothing to import.  Simply define your local site folder in DW -- Site > New Site.  Tell DW where to find your FP site files on your hard drive.
Under Servers, input your remote server's FTP log-in credentials and site Root Directory:
Some FP proprietary stuff like extensions will not work in Dreamweaver so you'll have a fair amount of code clean up ahead of you.  Most people find it easier to just rebuild their site with DW.
    Good luck!

  • Website created in FrontPage does not display correctly in Safari

Using StoreFront software (PC based only), we have created a website that performs beautifully in Explorer and Netscape on a PC. For some reason, not all pages open properly on a MAC. It is the left column that does not open properly on the dynamically generated pages. Does Safari have a problem with style sheets?

  • Editing a webpage created with Frontpage

Is there any software available that will allow my mac to edit and continue working with a html website that was originally created with Microsoft Frontpage? This is the only part of my ex-windows based past that I haven't been able to fully switch to my Mac!

Give me an example of a software program that will let me open and edit a page previously created with Frontpage. I have attempted with Rapid Weaver. Thanks for your help!!

  • Can DW edit sites built with Frontpage extensions

I have to work on a site that was originally created by
someone who used frontpage and frontpage extensions. Im basically
just redesigning the layout our outer shell, and adding all the old
    data inside the design.
There are about 20-30 forms in this site that were created
    using frontpage extensions.
Is there a way I can edit the forms pages in DW without
messing up the forms or frontpage extensions?
Does DW offer any easy user interface to create forms like
    this FP extensions?

    > Ive heard that

It doesn't, and couldn't, affect the coding. But it can
    'break' the tight
connection between the files on the site and the FP server
    extensions, which
would have the immediate effect of breaking the form
    processing.
If you must take this job then I think the only "SAFE" way to
    do it would be
to use Microsoft's ExpressionWeb product for the project. EW
    understands
how to keep the FP Server Extensions healthy, and can
    therefore use HTTP
transfers of files rather than FTP transfers.

  • Does iWork for iOS allow me to open and edit documents created in the Microsoft Office suite?

    Hi all,
I have just purchased an iPad 2 32Gb. I want to be able to use it for work.
I need to be able open and edit documents created in Microsoft Office. Primarily .doc and .docx files. Is this possible? or am I better with D2 or Documents to Go.
Also, can I save a document attachment from an email and open it on my iPad for reviewing and editing?
    Cheers

Yes, "pages.app" will open these files. In the same manner "numbers.app" will open xls, xlsx and "keynote.app" will open powerpoint files.
iwork09 files from a Mac can also be opened. And you can save each files back in various file formats, also save them  as pdf.
Also, can I save a document attachment from an email and open it on my iPad for reviewing and editing?
Yes. "open in .." then a suitable app is in the list : say you get a docx, then pages will be presented as app to open it.
    Cheers

    Enjoy it.

I have taken over the administation of our website, created on iWeb on anoher computer, Now have iWEb installed on my computer, have downloaded all files from server. How do I open this files/this website in iWeb? Do I have to download the files into the app? Onto my desktop?
Can anybody help me with this?
    Thanks,
    Sten

The simple answer to this question is that you DON'T and you CAN'T.  You have downloaded html and css files - ie, the published site from your server.  Unfortunately, iWeb has no import facility so is unable to read any html or css files - it's a one way street and iWeb produces all the html and css files upon publishing and that is it.
If you are taking over the admin of the site, you need the previous administrator to give you the domain.sites file - this is the iWeb data file where everthing is stored.  The domain.sites file livers under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
You need to get them to e-mail this file or they can stick it on a flash drive for you or whatever, but it is this file that you need.
If you don't or can't get access to this file, then you'll have to use another programme to update and administer the site - one that has import facilities.  You could use a plain html editor such as Text Wrangler or you could use a programme called Flux 4 that has import facilities.
    Contact the previous administrator.

  • Editing pages created using dreamweaver with microsoft's visual studio express

Here's a quick, somewhat vague, question for anyone who might have an answer. Is there a trick to editing pages created using dreamweaver with Microsoft Visual Studio Express? The reason I ask is I recently finished a web site for my first client who now wants to make edits herself using the program she uses, that being Microsoft. I thought it would be as easy as pulling the html files from the server (or the usb flash drive i gave her), making changes and then putting them back to the server, but apparently she is having some problems. I'm meeting with her soon. I have no experience with any other programs, other than Adobe, so I don't know how much good I'll be in helping her. Maybe it's an easy question, maybe not. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Dreamweaver template commands are all wrapped in HTML comments, so they
shouldn't cause any problems. They should simply be treated as comments.
However, the concept of editable and locked regions will be ignored.
Hi David, I meant the templates with the dwt extension, not the html files that are created from them. The full version of VS will recognize the dwt extension as 'Dynamic Web Template' but as this is a microsoft extension it does not recognize the code for editing and shows a large number of errors, (before anyone comments the dwt file extension is used by a number of other programs, all referring to a different file type).

How can I save a website created on iweb, but that I no longer have it saved in my computer, so I can open it in my new computer  with iweb
and republish it on another server, since mobile me would be gone on jun 2012.

You need the Domain.sites2 file that's located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder in order to be able to manage and publish the site from another computer?
Do you have that file? If you do copy it to the same folder on the other computer and you're ready to go.
If not then you'll have to recreate the site from scratch.  Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the site. 1

I am wanting to publish a website created in iweb via a third party web host. How do I put a password for anyone wishing to visit the mysite?

You create the usernames and passwords where you host your website. Made with or without iWeb.
Usually it's done in the controlpanel where you manage your account.
If you cannot do it there, you'll have to do it yourself. See this post :
