Editing with Dreamweaver

Is it possible to edit a file created in Dreamweaver so that
changes can be tracked? It looks to me that you might have to use
Incopy, so I've downloaded a trial version of that. But, if so, I
can't figure out how to make DW and Incopy work together.

Dreamweaver doesn't have a Track Changes feature like
Microsoft Word. If
you want to keep track of changes, you need to use a version
control
program. Dreamweaver CS4 supports Subversion:

  • Adobe edge generated text is not editable with dreamweaver or notepad ++ is there a work around?

How can I enable a client to update there text regularly via code editor on their server (not wysiwyg)? Want to be able to update text that was originally generated within Adobe Edge.
Edge appears to convert the text to some kind of symbol, as when the text is changed in notepad++ the actual text content does not change on the finished file, and only the original text is viewable on the browser.
Is there some way to do this?
With flash it was easy to edit a .txt file via text field var - is there something similar with Edge?
been trying to work this out for several months now.
any working examples would be appreciated.
    thanks

    Hi alayna,
Here's a link to the example file:
    https://creative.adobe.com/share/dcbe9fc1-845b-476a-838a-8379f556872e
It's pretty straightforward - it's a .js file containing only variables that gets saved in the same directory as the Edge Animate HTML file:
Then add a script tag to the HTML file generated by EA pointing to the path of the .js file:
Finally, add a handler to the Stage creationComplete event, which sets each text field to a separate variable:
That's all there is to it!

  • Opens With Dreamweaver association not working

I recently did a clean install of Windows Vista and
reinstalled my applications - including MS FrontPage and
Dreamweaver 8. I've gone through and associated the file extensions
(i.e. .asp, .aspx, .htm) with Dreamweaver, but whenever I
double-click on a file, it opens with FrontPage. The icon
associated with the file is the Dreamweaver icon and the properties
for the file states that it opens with Dreamweaver 8. I can even
right-click on the file and select "Edit with Dreamweaver 8" and it
still opens in FrontPage. Anyone have suggestions to fix
    this?

Is there a "Set Default button in Vista's file association
    dialog panel" ?

  • Edit Existing Site With Dreamweaver

Im sure this question has been asked 100 times but how do I edit an existing site (published and on the web) with Dreamweaver CS5.5? I took over as webmaster last month at a company and would like to edit the companys website. How do I download the files off the web? I can do it with Contribute but not Dreamweaver.

Create a local site folder in DW.  Site > Manage Sites > New.
Go to Advanced > Remote info and enter your log in-details (FTP, host URL, username, password).
    Test connection to server.
    Then GET files from server.

I figured it out (tested with CS3 on Vista Premium).
[DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU'RE COMFORTABLE EDITING THE WINDOWS
    REGISTRY]
    [REQUIRES ADMINISTRATOR ACCESS]
    Open the registry.
    (Back it up!!!)
    Navigate to
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\dreamweaver.exe\shell
    Choose Edit->New->Key and type edit
With edit highlighted, choose Edit->New->Key and type
    command
With command selected, you should see (Default) on the right
    side.
Copy the path from the shell\open\(Default) value and paste
    it into the
    shell\edit\(Default) value
    Open IE7.
Select Tools->Internet Options and click on the Programs
    tab.
You should now be able to select DW for the HTML editor.

  • What's up with DreamWeaver CS4?

D/W tells me it can't find the root folder so I go to "mangae sites", then edit, and show it where the site is located on my desktop, and I get this error message.
Then when I try to upload a file to my website I get this error message.
And yes I'd buy CS6 if I could afford it, who wouldn't. But $50 bucks a month is not something I can afford right now.
And it happens over and over again. I won't allow me to fix it. Even after many attempts. Has anybody an answer to this problem. Oh, and I'm using CS4 with Mac OS X version 10.9. I've been using this for years and have never had a problem till I bought a new MacBook Pro.
Thanks for your help, before the fact.

Thanks but I¹ve done that and it just keeps asking me to click on ³manage
site² and do it over and over again. I¹m wondering if perhaps when I bought
this new computer, and the had me change my user name on the computer by
putting a ³1² after it, if somehow that screwed the whole thing up and it
can no longer recognize any of it as a result?

I think that the error message is quite clear, there is a problem with the
mentioned page. Try renaming the document and see what happens.

  • Embedding Lightroom HTML gallery with Dreamweaver

I'm new to Dreamweaver and have used it to build a portfolio website.  I've created HTML image galleries using Lightroom and would like to integrate these galleries into my existing page design.  Lightroom generates an Index file, as well as Context and Resources folders.  I've seen an earlier discussion about using LR to upload the galleries to my host, then edit the HTML to link the gallery pages to my other web pages.  This strikes me as cumbersome for two products made by a single company.
What I'm after is a clear answer about if I can embed these HTML galleries quickly and easily into my existing page design?  My other solution is to use the Airtight SimpleViewer gallery, but since it's using Flash, my galleries won't work on Apple mobile devices.
    I'm using Dreamweaver CS5.5 and Lightroom 3.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You can't edit a flash gallery with Dreamweaver.
To make changes to the LR flash gallery you would require a copy of the original fla file and a copy of Flash to edit it.
The index file you see is the one that loads the flash player to play your gallery. The message is what is seen in a browser that doesn't have flash player installed.
You can make amendments to the gallery itself by changing the xml files, although the changes you can make here can also be made in LR itself so why bother?
You can embed the gallery itself in your own html page. Using insert, media and then finding the gallery.swf file. As long as you then upload everything in the correct locations (including the scrippt files abd the new html file in the same folder structure it will work.
There are other flash galleries that are far easier to  embed available. However in order to make serious changes to flash galleries of any type you will require the original fla file and most designers are not going to give you that! Adobe does give away the fla's for the galleries that ship with PS.

  • A novice with Dreamweaver CS6 trial

    Hello Experts:
Is it practical to contemplate connecting my Trial DW CS6 to an existing wordpress site, pulling down a local copy of the site, editing it in dreamweaver (add a page, some images, captions), and tem loading it back up to the web server where it once again looks like wordpress? I have reached the extent of my danger limit having pulled down a local copy that has pretty much everything that I see up on the web server.
However trying to open the local site I am besieged with notifications that I need to "discover things, etc. Have I overestimated the capability to be expected from DW? Thanks

No.  WordPress is  dynamically populated from content stored in the MySql database as well as a laundry list of server-side include files.  In short, there's nothing to edit in Dreamweaver.   After your WP site is deployed on the server, you MUST use the WordPress Admin Panel to edit & maintain content.  Otherwise, you will break the site.
Feel free to use Dreamweaver to build a new web site or to customize a new WordPress Theme.

  • Do template files work for those not editing in dreamweaver?

    Hi!
Do dreamweaver .dwt template files work for people who are not making changes with dreamweaver?
    Thanks!

Better make that a *NO*.  Allowing people to edit Template controlled pages outside of DW will be a catastrophe, unless they are very familiar with DW Templates and how they work.

  • Please Help Me With Dreamweaver (URGENT!)

I don't know if I'm posting in the right section, if not please
forgive me and post me in the right place. Please help me out with
my website. I don't know what I did or how I did it. But when I
tried to change the link for my forum section, everything else
didn't work. When you go to my site, www.urbanwritten.com and click
on any of the links on the left hand side, its goes to page cannot
be found. And it was working fine before all of that. If you are
good with dreamweaver of know what my problem is and know how to
fix it, PLEASE RESPOND to me I'm literally crying. I am in dire
need of help!!! My saved and uploaded files are how they're suppose
to be, but they're just not showing up on the website for some
reason. PLEASE help me out. If you think you know how to fix my
problem let me know and I'll give you my ftp info so you can take a
    look.
P.S. It was working way before I tried to make the changes
    for the forum link.

You can fix it in ten minutes tops.
First- is the site correctly defined?
    The index frameset and
    http://www.urbanwritten.com/Home.html
    should be in
the root level of the Local Site Folder.
The Templates folder should be in the root level of the Local
    Site Folder.
The remote site should be a mirror image, with the homepage
    at the root top
most level. If the remote shows a folder like public_html or
    www or similar
where the site files need to go into that subfolder; put that
    folder name
into the "host directory" line of the remote info for this
    site definition.
    open MainLayout.dwt for editing.
    dw menu-->File-->Check Page-->Check Links.
in the Results panel it shows the broken links.
Fix them by either clicking that line so it opens the page to
    that link, and
use the folder icon for the LINK in the Property inspector to
    pick the
correct file to link to, OR use the folder icon at the far
    right of the
broken link listing to do the same thing.
there should be no broken links in the template when done.
The key concept is to have the links work in the template
    file. Then dw will
manage the link paths when you use that template on a child
    page.

  • Making Simple Edits Without Dreamweaver

I am going to be away from the PC on which Dreamweaver is installed for several days, but I will need to made very simple edits to the text of our index page each day.  Is there an application with which I can safely do that?  I will have access to both a Macbook and a Windows 7 PC.  Our web site is hosted at Network Solutions and was created with Dreamweaver.

You could try Panic Coda but it comes at a price (currently $75) and they also have an iPad App called Diet Coda.  That's $20.
I've never used the latter but it might help you - er... if you have an iPad.

  • Intergrating wordpress with Dreamweaver CS6

I am new to Dreamweaver CS6 and trying to do  a website for a charity . They require to update and add photos to their website. Some one suggested wordpress.I want to design it in dreamweaver but can anyone suggest how to intergrate wordpress with Dreamweaver. There will be only 2 pages at the most the client will have to update every month.I tried to download word press but it automatically opens Dreamweaver CS6 and displays an error saying
    WordPress
      Error: PHP is not running
WordPress requires that your web server is running PHP. Your server does not have PHP installed,      or PHP is turned off.
i have it on the uniserver which has PHP already but what do I need to do for editable pages and secondly the error above, Please advice.

OK, there are several issues here:
Firstly, WordPress is a complete Content Management System. ALL of what you put up on that website will be done in WordPress, period.
    Here's how Dreamweaver can help:
Dreamweaver can assist you in editing the stylesheet(s) for your WP page. But you'll need to add content using the WordPress interface, as all of your content will be located in a database and supplied from that Database.
What Dreamweaver is complaining about is that you do not have a server set up as a testing server so that Dreamweaver can show you what is happening with the server-side code (php). In order to do this, you will have to install WAMP or MAMP on your computer.
Or you could do what I did: Simply install WordPress on your remote host and don't use a testing server or designate that remote host as the testing server in Dreamweaver. (I have to confess, I never got MAMP to work correctly.)
Many hosting providers give you "Softalicious" that will automate the installation of WordPress on your server. If you have that, simply run it and you're all set.
If you don't, here are the steps to install WordPress on your server:
    Requirements:
    FTP Access
    An available MySQL Database
The php software you wish to install
    Create the MySQL Database:
Log into your Control Panel using the username and password provided by your Hosting Provider.
Go to your "MySQL Databases" in your Control Panel (CPanel) and create a database
Right below where you created the database, create a new user and password
Underneath where you created the user, you'll see two dropdown boxes, one with the user and the other with the database name. Add that user to the database, giving it "ALL" permissions.
*Note that the database and username has two parts: yourusername_databasename, and yourusername_username. For example, tester5_php1 and tester5_admin. You will need this for the software configuration.
    Upload files:
Download WordPress from their site. Make sure you have the latest version.
Locate the folder on your computer that contains all the files for WordPress. Create a new defined site in Dreamweaver, and drag the entire WordPress site into that defined website in Dreamweaver.
Use Dreamweaver's FTP client to upload WordPress from your local computer to your remote host. On standard Linux/Apache webservers, you'll need to make sure that the Root Directory is set to /public_html/ or consult with your hosting provider to determine what the root directory is supposed to be.
    Run the installation:
Typically accessing the installation folder directly in your web browser will lead you to the install page, otherwise you will need to refer to the documentation or README file for the location. Most of the installations are self explanatory and configure automatically. Either way, you will eventually need to provide the database information:
    Hostname: localhost
db name: tester5_php1 (as you created in step 1)
db username: tester5_admin (as you created in step 1)
password: whatever password you created for the user in the database
You may also me prompted to specify Administrative login information. This information is in no way related to your CPanel or hosting provider, but is the information you will need to log in to the software's administrative control panel.
Once the installation is complete, WordPress will remove all installation directories so that nobody can mess up your installation by hacking in and re-running them.
Now that you software is installed, it should give you a link to log in to the administrative control panel. This is where you will continue to develop this part of your website.

I gave up on trying to connect Contribute to my website

I could get the connection directly from Contribute. Somehow, It
worked. I think I went to Edit > My Connections > Create...

So far, this has allowed me to continue with setting up this
site with Contribute. I'm still really confused as to what the
problem is with Dreamweaver and Contribute working together.
I'm going to go back and make sure that I can repeat whatever
I did to get it working. The only thing worse than not being able
to get something to work is stumbling upon the solution and not
    knowing how you did it
