Editing your Song Info // Refreashing your entire library

Heres the deal, I was just given 30gb of music from a friend so i have a more variety of music for a party. However all the ID3 tags or whatever are all screwey and don't display properly. I've heard that there are programs that automatically do the editing of the tags for you with a simple press of the button. I'm wondering if anyone has any good reccomendations weather they would be free programs or purchased programs.
Secondly, i re-did some of the tags in my music folder however when i go to play them in iTunes the question mark pops up and can't find the song. Is there a way to refreash the entire library so that it understands that there were edits outside of iTunes so i don't get that silly question mark to the side of the song?
I'm using iTunes 7 if you need to know.

If the songs are separated by album there are a lot of utils to do it, just google for mp3 tagging. If they aren't you're screwed!
You can try the scripts that exist to try to rebuild the database. See here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2849863&#2849863

  • Why can I only see my purchased songs and not my entire library when I use an ipad?

Why can I only access my 'purchased' songs when I sign into an ipad with my AppleID.  How can I access my entire itunes library (purchased, playlists and downloaded music)?

If it's iTunes purchased music then you might be able to re-download it on your iPad via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app - it will download into the Music app. If you want your other music from your computer's iTunes (e,g. music copied from CDs and playlists) then you will need to sync it from your computer's iTunes to your iPad's Music app.

  • How do I sync song info on iPod with Library

If I update the information of a song on my iPod, can I sync that information with the same song in the library? I am not able to edit some of the songs on the library, so it is not in sync with the information on the iPod.

Can you post this in a separate thread with a bit more detail on exactly what you are trying to do? In the meantime have a look at these pages which should help you get started.

  • I cant edit my song info anymore, anyone know how to fix?

i keep going into my windows explorer and switching it from read only but everytime i recheck it, read only has been reset.

When you say email content, do you mean that you can't see attachments or you don't get messages at all?
If you don't get any mail, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars and define your email.
If you get mail but can't open attachments, beware that the iPad can open PDFs and some other attachments, but yu don't have MS Office apps on the iPad.

  • How do i edit my song info?

i know how to go to get info and all dat but its blocked. i wanted to know how you unblock it so that i can change the information.

By any chance is the song file read-only? Right-click the song in iTunes, choose Show in Explorer, righ-click the file in Explorer, choose Properties. If Read-only is checked, uncheck it.

  • How to "share" your itunes Library with a mac, apple TV and Ipads?

I am looking for an easy way to have my Itunes library on an external drive and be able to access it from a Mac (able to sync an iphone), an Apple TV, and Ipads.   I don't want to leave me computer on so I think I am looking for an NAS drive.
Would I need a NAS drive with "itunes server"?

    Hey jimyam,
Thanks for the question. If you wish to access your music library from multiple devices, anywhere, It sounds like iTunes Match may be the right service for you:
    Apple - iTunes - Match
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
With iTunes Match, all your music can be stored in iCloud — even songs you’ve imported from CDs. You can access your music from all your devices and listen to your entire library wherever you are. And you'll also be able to listen to iTunes Radio without ads.

  • Updated to ios5 cant edit song info via itunes anymore

Here's what's going on. I updated my OS on iPod Touch and when I did, all my content on it got deleted sans photos and contact info. Not too big of a deal but now when I drag songs from my music folder in windows and edit the song info in iTunes (i.e. changing Sade to Everything But The Girl) it does so in iTunes but the info isn't changed on my iPod. Any info would help and keep my hair in. Email [email protected]

    Problem Solved:
#1) after you install iTunes and reboot as it tells you to you must start up the program then log out of the program
#2) reboot 1 more time (this is redundant but you must do it to get your equalizer working and the ability to edit your song information).
    Everything is working correctly now.

  • How to find files in your iTunes Library & NOT in Your iTunes Music folder AND visa versa.

Finding Files in iTunes Music folder that are not Listed in iTunes
Make  2 Smart Play Lists and 1 Static Playlist as follows:
    1. Make a smart playlist called “All Files” with this rule: “Artist” is not “123456789″ (or any nonsense name that won’t be in your library).
    2. Make a static playlist called “All Live Files”.
    3. Make a smart playlist called “Missing Files” with these rules: Match all of the following rules, Playlist is “All Files”, Playlist is not “All Live Files”
    Preform the following operations:
    4. Select all the files from “All Files” and drag them into “All Live Files”. The dead files marked  ! will not copy over.
    5. “Missing Files” will contain all of your dead files. Select all and delete (Option+Delete). Voila, a nice clean iTunes library.
I keep these three playlists in their own folder. Whenever I gather more than a couple dead tracks for whatever reason, I delete all the tracks in “All Live Files” and repeat steps 4 and 5.
Finding Files in iTunes Library Are Not Present in iTunes Music Folder
Search on ‘Net for an Applescript called “Music Folder Files Not Added.” This will be at a site called Doug’s Applescripts and costs a mere $1.99. Install and follow instructions. This script also happens of clean up gremlins such as Podcasts that won’t go away, etc.
    <Edited by Host>

From the top of the page where the scripts live...
The general method of use is to download the script to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist. Some scripts offer a choice of track by track confirmation of changes or fully automatic processing of the selection. Many of the scripts can optionally display a progress bar while running.
You are strongly advised to backup your entire library, or at the very least the iTunes Library.itl file, before use. Test the behaviour of your chosen script on a small group of files first to make sure it does what you want before applying it to large numbers of files.
Most builds of Windows will execute *.vbs scripts when you double-click them. If that doesn't happen then you might need to visit the Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features control panel to enable the Windows Scripting Host. I can track down details if you have issues.
Backing up and restoring data is an area that is often glossed over. Most people don't try to learn much about it until they've lost something important. (Me too )
If your iTunes library was in the usual layout then normally copying the whole iTunes folder from the User's Music folder in the old computer to the User's Music folder in the new one will usually work fine. Ideally this is done before iTunes is installed so that there is no empty library to replace, and all settings are picked up from the old library. This post contains more details.

  • Cant edit song info

Im having trouble editing my song info. A problem i haven't had in the past. I just got a new computer today, but all of my media is on my external hard drive. On my old pc, i had no troubles editing song info off of these files. and now it seems to not be working. Every time i hit "get info" everything comes up grayed out. Ive checked the properties on the hard drive and its listed as "read only" when i uncheck it it applies all the attributes and turns the read only off. But for some reason it doesn't keep. I cant get read only to stay off. So unfortunately i am unable to edit any of my song info. Has anyone out there had this problem? If so any suggestions?

So i figured if i could edit the song info i could fix this but when i go to "get info" and i attempt to change it but it wont even let me change a thing so that it my how do u edit song info in itunes so it changes on my nano?
    thanks
    Christian

If I knew how to edit that field I would have stated so - it is possible that the programers didn't allow editing for a particular reason - blame them - not the people trying to help you find a way around the your particular issue.
I know that you cannot edit the field that you want to edit - I only offered a viable suggestion as to how to get around the problem. I have the same beef - but I found a suitable way around the problem. Is no longer an issue for me.

  • Not able to edit song info

I cannot edit any song info (summary, sorting, info, options, artwork). Also, everytime I open my account I notice that the option to authorize my account is open even though that has already been done. I am storing my iTunes songs on an external hard drive and wonder if this has something to do with the problems I'm having. Any help would be appreciated.

    Little help? Anyone?

  • How do I transfer song info in iTunes Library back to mp3 files?

    1. some info of my songs in my itunes library is different from the info stored in the respective mp3 files
    2. I want the song info in the itunes library to be preserved
    3. but when I play a song in iTunes, iTunes would automatically obtain song info from the mp3 file and update iTunes Library.
    4. And I have many files like that
Quesiton: Is there a way I could transfer the song info in my itunes library back into the mp3 files?
thanks a lot if anyone has any idea!!

The album, artist, etc information displayed in the iTunes library comes from the ID3 tags in the MP3 song files. If you change it in iTunes (using Get Info), iTunes updates the file. iTunes does not automatically change it.
There may be other programs running that are changing it, e.g. the automatic setting in Windows Media Player.

  • Mp3 tagging song info rename revert PROBLEM!!!

    Hi guys,
I can see that there are loads of people who have the same problem as me. That is... that itunes is a mp3 tagging nightmare. The problem is simple. after editing song information in itunes. sometime later, itunes will happily revert or change the info back to the original file name or only display a portion of it. Im sure you guys know what im talking bout. Someone suggested that u edit the ID3 tags with an external program. However, what i dont understand is that, my itunes last time had no problem whatsoever displaying the correctly edited song information. Suddenly, now it decides to randomly change whatever it feels like. Also, it is extremely troublesome to externally edit the song info. The whole point of itunes is to make it convenient and simple to use. What is the point of having itunes only to have to use another program to edit the info??? I have seen numerous other threads with the same problem as me. What frustrates me is that... why is Apple not doing anything bout it? and why arent they posting any solutions or answers as to why their fantastic software is behaving like a spoilt kid. Why are there no answers. It is NOT a small program. I have about 10000 songs and countless CDs. You cannot imagine what a headache it is to have spent months and months of carefully and meticulously editing the song info in itunes to perfection, only to start it up one day and find that 5000 songs are incorrectly named.
For Apple, this is just simply unacceptable.

Hey guys, i got this from the WMP help file...
"Update my music files (WMA and MP3 files) by retrieving missing media information from the Internet
Specifies that the Player automatically obtain and update missing media information for music files that are added to or are in Media Library, if the information is available. By default, the music files in your My Music folder are added to Media Library.
The Player attempts to update any missing media information in your music files by sending data about the files to a database operated by WindowsMedia.com if this check box is selected and you perform any of the following actions:
Use Media Library for the first time after updating the Player
Add files to Media Library by searching your computer
Add files to monitored folders, such as My Music
For example, if you have music files that contain the artist name but not the album name, the Player adds the album name to the file after retrieving the information from the database.
The Player also adds album art to files and music folders in your My Music folder."
In light of this information, wouldnt it be fair to say that WMp will only rename the files if they are physically added by the user in WMP? If i am not using WMP to play my mp3s, then why would WMP still be tracking and altering the file names?
