Edits to metric threshold

I'm trying to make edits to a metric threshold and it doesn't seem to save my changes. I have full privileges on the target but just to be sure I made the edit as sysman, still didn't work. It appears to save the edit, I get the update successful screen but when I refresh the metrics policy settings page the threshold does not show my edit.
Anyone run into this before? Thanks.

what version?
Also after you edit a metric you'll got back to the metrics screen...You need to click on 'ok' before your changes are saved...it says at the top.

  • How to set collection schedule for metric thresholds

    Greetings All,
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Windows Server 2008 R2Please know that I am a newbie when in regards Enterprise Manager (any version).
I am trying to use EM-Database Control version that was installed when I installed Oracle.
I am trying to activate e-mail notification when tablespace(s) usage exceeds set thresholds. Specifically the locally managed tablespaces.
I found the Metric Thresholds page, and I found the “Tablespace Space Used (%)” metric. Note this is NOT the “(dictionary managed)” metric.
I do have e-mail and credential information established.
I found where you can identify a SQL script to be executed for corrective actions for the warning and critical thresholds. However I don’t want to execute any corrective action, I am just interested in the e-mail notification.
I know I could setup a SQL script that would send an e-mail but from my reading/research I believe that e-mail notification should automatically take place so long as e-mail and credential information has been established, which has been established.
    My question is:
I can find now way to set a Collection Schedule. The dictionary managed tablespace metric has a collection schedule link (i.e. Every 15 Minutes), but the non-dictionary managed tablespace metric(s) has none.
Clicking the edit icon(s) provides no way of setting the collection schedule.
Where/how do I establish a Collection Schedule for this metric?
    Thanks for your time,
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
With Grid/Cloud Control you can modify the collection frequency (interval) for the Tablespace Space Used (%) metric for locally managed tablespaces; however, you cannot do the same in DB control.
That being said, alerts from the metric are server-generated alerts, which are generated from the monitored database target. When the space used percentage exceeds the Warning or Critical threshold, assuming you have subscribed to an appropriate notification rule for email notification, you should receive an email notification in about 1 minute or so.
The following doc may help explain more about server -generated alerts:

  • Alerting Metric thresholds for Notification rules

    Hi Guys,
Can i edit the Response Time (msec) metric under the Listener Availability Notification rule to alert only if the response time is breaching the alerting threshold for 5 minutes,as in for 5 consecutive occurences when this metric is pooled ?
For example we can execute dbms_server_alert.set_threshold(.....
    consecutive_occurrences=>5
    for a metric like redo_generated_sec
Can we do this for Response Time (msec) metric under the Listener Availability Notification rule ?
I am also not seeing this metric listed under v$METRICNAME
    Any ideas...
    Regards,
    Swanand

I am not sure if this is related, but you can added Metrics for the Service Test associated with the Beacon via the Monitoring Setting.
    Example for homepage:
Select All Targets > EM Website > Metric and Policy Settings >Tests >Monitoring Settings of homepage
Then Add/edit Metric Thresholds and Collection settings accordingly.

  • Metric threshold and Response Action

    Hello,
I have a problem regarding the metric thresholds in Oracle 10gR2. I would like to set a response action for the "Tablespace full in percent"-metric, but until now I wasn't successful with that.
I tried the following steps (sorry, if I sometimes don't use the correct terms, but I have a non-English version of EM):
    1. Logging in into Enterprise Manager as SYS
    2. Adjusting the threshold value for the metric
    3. Setting a Response Action for the metric
    a) first I tried a PL/SQL-procedure
    b) another time I tried a OS-command (batch file on Windows XP)
    4. Clicking "OK"
EM shows me then the page with all metrics and their settings; a message says that my changes were applied correctly. Everything seems to be right, when looking at the metric I see my new threshold value as well as the Response Action. When reloading the page, my customized threshold setting is still there, but the Resonse Action "vanished". So, no surprise, the Action is never started when the threshold is reached.
Has anybody an idea why this is not working? Am I missing something? I hope I forgot no important information. Thanks for all replies!
    Regards,
    Lars

I thought I posted this earlier -- try the host metric log parser. It will search a given log file fo a given text string. Its quite simple to setup. There was an issue in 10.2.0.2 with the parameters in the wrong order but thats been corrected in 10.2.0.3. You could if desired put a fix it job in there that rotates the listener.log upon an error.

  • Need Advise on Setting Critical Metric Threshold  for "Status"

    Hi All,
I am trying top copy all metric thresholds from OEM 9i to 10G. I ran across the metric threshold for "Status" (whether the node is up or down). It is set to "Down" and, although I'd like to set it to "Up/Down", when I hit Continue it comes back with
"The format of the critical threshold is not correct.". Does anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks
    Sam

you are status metrics for all targets in grid control
the notification rules for databases, hosts, listener, aplication server are enabled the send mail if the status change.

  • Track ip route metric threshold

    Hi guys
Is there someone who can explain the follow output:
    c3750#sh track
    Track 1
IP route 8.8.4.4 255.255.255.255 metric threshold
      Metric threshold is Up (EIGRP/28416/11)
        147 changes, last change 00:00:04
Metric threshold down 210 up 190
      First-hop interface is Vlan1
    Track 2
IP route 8.8.8.8 255.255.255.255 metric threshold
      Metric threshold is Up (OSPF/20/20)
        40 changes, last change 01:13:36
Metric threshold down 255 up 254
      First-hop interface is Vlan1
I've not found documentation about line :
    (EIGRP/28416/11) and (OSPF/20/20)
I've not understood which is the metric that track match with his configuration:
    Thanks many much in advance
    Daniele
    Some configuration detail:
track 1 ip route 8.8.4.4 255.255.255.255 metric threshold
threshold metric up 190 down 210
track 2 ip route 8.8.8.8 255.255.255.255 metric threshold
    c3750#sh ip route
    O E2    8.8.8.8 [110/20] via 192.168.0.100, 00:00:04, Vlan1
    D EX    8.8.4.4 [170/28416] via 192.168.0.1, 00:00:31, Vlan1

As far as tracking goes, it will be "Up" as long as there is a route to 7.1.1.7/32 in the routing table of the routers configured with track 1. It must be a /32 route due to the "255.255.255.255" in the track 1 statement. With that being said, track 1 will be "Down" since e1/0 on r7 is most likely not configured with a /32 mask. I say most likely because it is conneced to R2 and ethernet interfaces cannot be configured with a /32 mask. Attempting to would result in "Bad mask /32 for address 7.1.1.7". To bring track 1 up, the mask needs to match the route for 7.1.1.7 exactly as seen in the routing tables of R3 and R4.
With the current topology any issue causing eigrp on R2 to not advertise 7.1.1.7/32 will take track 1 down on both R3 and R4. The HSRP priority on both routers will decrement 10 which means that R3 will never take priority. No failover will occur as a permanent state in a converged network.
Another point to make in this scenario is that tracking 7.1.1.7/32 could cause instability in the network. If connectivity between R2 and R7 fails, HSRP will failover. This topology change causes updates and and traffic disruptions in an unrelated part of the network. Traffic destined to R2 or possibly another router off R2 is now affected even though only connectivity to R7 is of concern. Also, R2's hold timer for R7 could cause long delays for eigrp updates to make it down to R3 and R4.
Optimally, R3 and R4 should track the status of an object specifically related to their own connectivity to R2 such as interface line-protocol or IP. This will give the network stability, increase routing accuracy, cause faster failover, and better avaibility, etc, etc, etc.

  • Set metric threshold for default metrics

Running Grid Control 10.2.0.4; have not had the time to go through an upgrade to 10.2.0.5 yet.
There are several metrics I am interested in setting a threshold for, specifically the Streams Replication metrics. When I click the "All Metrics" link on the cluster database's homepage I see a category called Streams Process Count as well as several metrics within that group. Right now none of those metrics have thresholds set. I have tried adding a threshold in the monitoring config (Preferences -> Rules -> Database availability and critical states) but the Streams metrics do not appear.
Am I missing something here? I feel kind of ridiculous for asking, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere...

Not every metric in 'all metrics' is configurable with metric thresholds.
Your workaround is to write an user definied metric.

  • Oem 12c metric threshold

    All,
I have a question is it feasible at all to set up the warning and alert thresholds for the disk %busy to be 100% for a period of 3 hours for all servers as a default.
After this time notificaction should be sent.
    Thanks,
    Marcin

"for all servers" -- once you get it working on one server, create a monitoring template using that one as the source, then apply to the remaining.
As for the 100% for a period of 3 hours -
    Show all metrics
Click on disk busy 3 pencils icon.
    Click edit (this is KEY)
Then enter the warning/critical *and* occurrences.
So if 15 minute collection intervals you would say 12 occurrences.

  • Metric threshold Blocking session count

    Hi,
I am trying to modify the blocking session count threshould and making warning threshold as null and critical threshold > 0. When i create a blocking session in the database i get the warning for application wait class but i don't get a critical alert generated even waiting for more than an hour. Here is what i have done so far
    1. changed the warning threshold to null, critical threshold to > 0 and changed the time of collection to each 5 minutes.
    2. Creating a blocking lock in the database, when i go on the performance page of db and look at the instance locks i can see the lock being held for more than 30 minutes
Any ideas how can i get this going will be much appreciated.

In order to trigger the metric "blocking session count", you have to
    a. have one session which is holding the lock (not comitting)
    b. at least one session which is waiting for exactly that lock. in that case, the metric will report sid of blocking session with a value of > 0.

  • Metrics - Thresholds - Best Practices

    All,
I installed em grid control 11g and configured the targets and notification rules. Now i am trying to set up thresholds, is there a best practice threshold values that someone can share for various metrics at weblogic level. I know this is a generic question and i can tune the thresholds for my environment/application usage. But there must be a ball-park threshold document somewhere for alert purposes.
    Thanks in advance,
    Prasad.

    Hi Prasad,
There is no document giving recommendations on threshold values. Setting thresholds really depends on your environment. I recommend looking at performance history...looking at for instance a timeframe that had heavy load on the application/server but performance was good. Then set thresholds according to that....either adjust up or down as needed.
    Thanks,
    Nicole

  • Setting thresholds for Metrics in OEM

I want to set thresholds for metrics in OEM and everytime I do, the following error occurs.
Error occurred while editing the metric thresholds.
Communication exception occurred while saving the thresholds data to the emd.
    Error
    java.lang.Exception: No such metric
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what can I do to fix it.
    Thank you

    Hi.
Monitoring templates are not permanently associated with targets.
Applying a template on a target updates the target's settings but if you modify the template afterwards you need re-apply it.
Furthermore, you can apply more than one template on a target. The second apply operation will generally override settings applied in the first one.
(As a best practice I would make sure that if I use more than one template for a specific target type , the different templates will
    include different metrics).
Apply operations are logged and you can check which template was applied against which target.
This is available under "past apply operations" in the templates page.

  • How to change default thresholds for some metrics of all targets.

    Hi!
We have a lot of servers which have to work hard.
So, our OEM very often generates messages like these:
"EM Alert: Critical:dbsora90.tsb.kz - CPU Utilization is 99.95%, crossed warning (80) or critical (95) threshold."
"EM Alert: Critical:dbsora94.tsb.kz - Disk Device c8t60A9800043346C384C344A4A63516D6Ad0(ssd4) is 99.7% busy."
"EM Alert: Critical:dbsora94.tsb.kz - CPU Load (Run Queue Length averaged over 5 minutes) is 20.78, crossed warning (10) or critical (20) threshold."
I need to change default tresholds for mentioned metrics but I can't their defenition in SYSMAN.MGMT_*-tables or suitable settings in OEM GUI.
And I have no time to edit treshholds manually for each target. )

Modification of Metric Thresholds (as this is what you are referring to), should be done using the Metrics and Policy Settings link (to be found in the Target Home page).
Don't mess around with the SYSMAN tables!
Best thing to do here is to start using Monitoring Templates for this.

    This has come up before.
The standard metric works off a perl expression.
You may be able to get most of what you want with defining different values for warning and critical thresholds, and setting up notification rules accordingly. Also remember you can consider multiple users in grid and uder defined metrics
