Editting audio in a movie

I have this video which has an audio track that is out of sync, and was wondering if there's a small program available to perhaps shift the audio forward a few seconds.
I would extract the audio in iMovie but my HD is running low on space and I can't fit the movie on in the iMovie format.

Based on X idea: if you have QT Pro first you export the Audio and then you Add it back to the movie after chosing a new start position.
In more details:
-- the movie is open in QT Pro and you open also its property window (cmd-J)
-- in the property window you select the audio track and click Extract: a new QT Player Untitled window is opened with just the audio
-- still in the property window uncheck the audio track (you may delete later when everything is OK...): this mutes the video.
-- select the newly extracted untitled window, Select All (cmd-A), Copy (cmd-C)
-- go to the movie window and set the playhead where you want the extracted audio to be positioned, and then Add to Movie (alt-cmd-V).
As a result the audio track is added starting at the new playhead position and runs after the end of the video track.
The most difficult part is to decide where you have to set the playhead: you must make a good evaluation of how much to shift the audio forward. But the procedure is easy enough to repeat it at different playhead positions till you are satisfied.
Just for your info: in the extracted audio window you can also select a portion of track by setting the in and out points before copying; when adding to the video track you can use Add to Selection and Scale (or whatever English name has this command: shift-alt-cmd-V) if you want the audio track to adapt to the selected portion of the video... and so on

Let us start from the beginning.
It has been established that you have Premiere Elements 10. On what computer operating system is it running?
There has not been a File Menu/Export/Movie export opportunitity in Premiere Elements since version 7. We are not up to version 12.
For Premiere Elements 10, your export opportunities are all in Share/ including one for Computer. Under Computer there are several choices. The ones that you see are Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, and AVCHD. The others you have to scroll down to. And those choices are AVI, Windows Media, QuickTime, Image, and Audio. You do not have to use the scroll bar for this. You can click on Adobe Flash Video panel to get it to turn black. Then use the down arrow to go down the list and the up arrow to go up the list. Once you get to a category, you can select a preset and go with it or customize it under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of the preset.
If you post the properties of your source media that you want to try to match in the export, I would be glad to suggest the exact settings for you.
We will be watching for your follow up with details.
    Thank you.

Add On...The Premiere Elements 10 File Menu is for more than Saving, just not exporting. One of the key features that can be access there is the Project Archiver. More on that another time.

  • Is there and ipad app that allows you to record and edit audio, but can record in the background?  This would be to record voiceover auditions/podcasts while reading a script

Hi wondering if anyone might be able to help me out.  I am an audio engineer and my wife is a voiceover artist.  We just got the ipad thinking she could record her voiceover auditions on the go, but we can't for the life of us figure out how to record audio while reading a script off of her email.
    Looking for an app that:
Either can record audio while in the background (garageband cannot)
OR Import text (copy paste I guess?) to read while recording
The app needs to  be able to edit audio and export or email out an MP3 - by edit audio I mean trim, fades, and move around sections.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to do this?  I have been looking around the web for answers for hours and can't find any.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi-  I've done a lot of research in this area and actually am just finishing a book on this subject which will soon be in the iBookstore.
The best app is TwistedWave.  It allows easy editing and recording, and also allows you record while you are in another app (such as a script your agent sent in your email)
I recommend MiC by Apogee as your microphone, available at the Apple store.
My book which goes in depth in how to get the best sound as well as how to edit is called:
    iVoiceover
    Super. Simple. Recording.
I'll post here when it's live in the iBookstore!

  • Adobe Presenter/ Edit Audio Feature

I am struggling with Adobe Presenter and the edit audio feature.
First, I am in a Win 7 environment with Administrator rights. Second, I am using MS Office 2010 (PowerPoint 2010) and Adobe Presenter 7.0 (as a part of Adobe E-Learning Suite CS4).
I recently imported into my Powerpoint presentation  a large MP3 audio file (137 MB) using Presenter's audio import function.  Presenter imported this audio file with no issues.  But since the import, I experience some odd behaviors with Presenter.  The first issue is that the Move To Next Markeroption (Ctrl M) is grayed out so I am unable to mark where next slide goes.  The next oddity is sometimes when the play feature in engage, the position indicator moves, but no sound is played.   My speakers are on and it just played a few moments ago.
I have reconverted the mp3 and re-imported it multiple times.  I have tried importing a WAV file in lieu of the mp3 and still experience these issues.  The only thing that I can find that clears it is to close out PowerPoint/Presenter.  Then, I have to relaunch the file.  At first it will work, but then it will return to this odd behavior.
Any suggestions for a remedy would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

    Hi Vikram
    Thank you for the suggestions.
I have completed the tests and updates mentioned below but am still waiting for the client to test the recording again.
Are your video card driver is up to date? Please check whether you have the latest driver from the manufacturer’s site. Point 2 below will help you in finding the manufacturer’s identity.   – Yes driver has now been updated
Are all unnecessary applications closed? – have advised client to close all unnecessary apps at next recording
Do you have sufficient free space on your hard disk? At least 5 GB is needed, but around 15 GB is recommended. Yes – more than 100GB free
Are your webcam drivers up to date? It is recommended to install the webcam driver from the webcam cd or the webcam company’s site. Using the inbuilt webcam only – the test with external webcam was on a loaned device
Are you capturing your video in a well-lit environment? Most webcams perform poorly in bad lighting. Yes the area is well lit
After the next recording I will let you know result and include screen shots if it is an unsuccessful test.
    Thanks

  • QT Pro has no editing options for a Movie

I'm working on a presentation for work. I've edited a bunch of movies already, but there are three that have the editing options shaded out. I've tried everything...I exported them to other formats, but there's no sound. I've saved as but the editing is still shaded.
I'm at my wits end. I hope someone can help me soon.
    Thanks.

QuickTime can play MPEG-1 files and export the video but not the audio. They can't be edited in Pro.
MPEG Streamclip (free) can edit and export to QuickTime formats.

  • Export edited audio track in Final Cut Express

Does anyone know how to export an edited audio track as a mp3 without it being a video file using FCE?

Use Export>QuickTime Movie and change the export function to audio only. Take that to iTunes and use it to convert to MP3.

  • Editing audio tracks in Windows/Properties option

    Hello all
Can someone please tell me whether I can edit an audio track in the windows/properties dialog box? I'm trying to synchronise a sound track with a video/movie and am having a little difficulty getting the various bits of music to start and stop precisely where I want them to. It occurs to me that if you can edit in the windows/properties box, you can fine tune the precise start and stop times (displayed in time/frames).
Or maybe there is another way to do this (apart from highlighting desired section of movie and then adding an audio track with "add to selection and scale") which someone can tell me about?
I also wondered whether it is possible to "view" the audio track simultaneously with the video?
    With thanks
    MB

You don't edit tracks from the Movie Properties window. It is for viewing the tracks, adding annotations, applying masks or setting transparency or layers.
You can "extract" tracks to edit them in this new Player menu. You can play more than one file at a time (View menu / Play all Movies).
You can "fine tune" making a "selection" (in and out points) by holding down the Shift key as you tap the right/left arrow keys. This may help you synchronize the audio to the video track.
Using "Add to Selection & Scale" makes (forces) the tracks to have the same duration.

  • Audio files from movies

    Folks
I have a full movie I wanted to edit the audio in. Movie is 1'30'' long. When I do the extract in Logic I get an audio file that plays the entire audio, but it is 1 tick long and pointer indicates a file w/o lenght. I am unable to edit this. I tried extract audio from movie and extract to arrange. Both give me the same file lenght. File is an MP4 file. Is there a way to edit the audio? This is my 1st video attempt.
    Thanks

  • How to edit audio settings in CS3

I don't want to use Adobe Media Encoder. I'm using classic Export>Movie tab. I need to edit audio bitrate, but I can only edit Sample rate which is  in Hz.
I need it to be 128kbps
Additional settings cannot be clicked, since I have a small number of encoders.

Lossless means that no visual information is lost during the compression stage.  The entire visual image can be exactly reconstructed.  Uncompressed is one such method of achieving this.
I do not use the Xvid codec, so I can't comment on the quality of external encoders.  VideoHelp.com is a very good resource for this kind of thing, however.  I'd do some research over there.

  • Editing audio adds silent sections to other slides

I have Captivate 7. The audio was created as narration at the time of recording the video (slides). I am using Demonstration mode.
When I edit the project audio, let's say in frame 2, blank spaces are added into other frames of the audio file. Often this occurs in the middle of a word so that the audio is now stuttering. It seems to happen in random sections of the audio.
Editing can also cause timing problems. My frame positions move their placement along the audio, i.e. sometimes after editing in one location a word (in a different location of the audio) will be split between two frames when prior to editing the word was completely in one frame.
Every time I fix an issue in one area it causes a new issue to occur in another area of the audio. I shouldn't to have to export the audio to freeware in order to get my project completed. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you recorded your audio in one go and spread it across all slides (perhaps during the actual capture session) rather than recording slide by slide.
You need to break your audio into separate chunks.  One clip per slide is the ideal.
If you go to each specific slide and move the audio clip there away from the beginning of the slide at least one tenth of a second, and create a similar gap at the end of the slide, then Captivate will break up your audio into multiple clips.  This will then allow you to edit audio on one slide without affecting other slides or their timing.
If you want 300 more troubleshooting tips for Cp, you'll need to read the book:

  • Editing audio regions

I have two questions regarding editing audio regions that I had difficulty with. After referring to the quick start manual and the manual on the help menu, I was unsure how to proceed.
    1) Sometimes when I want to divide/cut an audio region so that I can copy part of it to another part of the track, I don't get it exactly at a zero crossing. I zoom in ALL the way possible and whenever I try to drag the corners to a zero crossing, I always jumps and cuts off another wave form. I'm having a lot of trouble getting the regions in the zero crossing. I tried double clicking on the region, it opened a type of audio editor. In the edit menu (I think), I checked the "zero crossing". When I zoomed in there and tried to adjust the selection or start, again it would not let me. Can someone please point me in the right direction.
    2) When I am moving regions on one track and there is a little bit of overlap, one region always cuts off the other one. I am having trouble figuring how to make logic understand which region I want "on top" and also wondering if there is anyway I can have the audio from both regions play simultaneously while they overlap on the same track.
    Thanks very much,
    ~Nico

okay, to answer Q:2 first...if there are two patches of audio overlapping, one will cut to the other as the scroll point reaches and passes them. if you want both to play simultaneously, put one patch of audio under the other, on another track.this is the quick and easy solution to that problem
for Q1, well there are a few approaches for editing audio. an easy way is to copy/paste the audio to the area on the arrange page you want it to be. double click it to open the audio edit window, then use the little in/out points at the left and right bottom corners respectively (they look like little triangles). move these points to the start/end point of the section of audio you want. you can make these points very precise. at this point you may want to go to the FILE drop down menu and 'save the selection as....', name it and add to audio window. then it will be named here to be re-used/edited without affecting the original audio. if you want to cut within a waveform, you can apply little fade in/outs to stop any clicking. remember any edits you make to your original pieces of audio are usually permanent, so always worth copying and renaming patches you are editing.
hope this helps, as i say, there are so many ways to edit audio, so i'm sure another user will give you some different advice. the more you experiment, the more you'll find little ways to do things.
as long as you have copies of the audio you are editing, just play around with it, untill you discover things...thats the best way.
    good luck

  • Replacing audio in mp4 movie clip

For two days now I'm trying to find a way to easily replace audio track in my mp4 movie clip without re-encoding the whole thing. I found an answer how to do it in QuickTime Pro and some other software, but no luck with Adobe Premiere Pro or Audition or other Adobe CS6 Production Premium software which I own. Can somebody please tell me how to do it? Is it even possible
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kevin,
There is a way!  I just figured it out!
I have my extracted audio in the clip bin where it should be after I "edit audio in Adobe Audition."  I then unlinked just my audio clips with the track selection tool as they were on the same track.  Then I relinked the audio to the extracted enhanced audio file and BAM!  It worked!
Figuring this out just saved me hours possibly days of manually replacing these audio clips!

  • How can i quick edit Audio( increase bass) of a single file?

    Hi everyone,
Im new to FCPX. I have a bunch of videos of music gigs ive played and would like to increase the bass (via equalizer) on most of them. All these videos are already converted into an "Apple Friendly" format and are sitting comfortably in my Itunes Video folder. How can i quickly increase the bass in each video (Without having to tediously export one by one) in FCPX and do a quick overwrite over the original video without having to make an EXTRA file?
    THanks

    ok.
"Why don't you increase the bass with the equalizer in FCP? Do it to one clip and use paste attributes to apply it to other clips."
    1) How do i copy the attributes after making the changes??
    2) How do i paste the attributes onto the next file?
    Thanks.

  • How to send FCP edited audio clips for processing in Soundtrack?

    Hello
How do I send just the edited audio clips from hour long files to be processed in Soundtrack from Final Cut?
I need help as I'm trying to adjust some edited audio clips in Soundtrack Pro but when I send them from FCP to Soundtrack - it opens the whole original audio file and then any adjustments I apply in Soundtrack are being processed over the whole audio file not just the short edited audio clip that I want to adjust.
Normally I don't mind as my scenes are usually short and Soundtrack analysis over the whole scenes audio is usually desirable, but this projects files have been transfered from tapes as hour long AVI files (all the tapes clips transfered into one hour long files) and every FCP edited audio clip I send is being treated as an hour long audio file in Soundtrack.
I'm sure there's a simple answer for settings but I haven't been able to find it.  Any advice appreciated.
    Barra

Thanks Javi, my sequence is an hour and half duration so what I'm trying to do is save processing time in Soundtrack by just processing adjustments on the few audio clips that need processing.
I have set Soundtrack to open referenced audio only and with 5 sec in and out handles, but it still imports the whole original audio file into Soundtrack timeline upto the selected clip, I then double click in Soundtrack on the clip in brackets, and it then selects just the audio clip I want to adjust, then Soundtrack will just process on the edited clip but when I 'render to action' it seems to apply changes to whole original audio file - taking longer than I want.... frustrating
Also the sound always sounds very different in FCP than Soundtrack even after 'rendering to action' and rendering in FCP... this is not the easy workflow I expect from such expensive software programs, I understood that they work together in a fully integrated way, what's the problem! This is wasting my precious time and preventing me from editing not helping me, this is a common problem and yet I can find no help in the user manual - I'm not impressed!

  • Cap3: Edit Audio Timing display's thumbnail is too small

    Hello ... Regarding Captivate 3 ...
I'm trying to time my voice-over audio to a series of
application scenario slides using the Edit Audio Timing display,
but am finding it extremely difficult because the small changes in
my slides (radio button selections, text input, dropmenu
selections, etc.) are too small to detect on the miniscule
    thumbnail used in the display.
Is this poor interface design, or is there a setting
somewhere that allows me to increase the size of the thumbnail?
I've looked around, but can't find one. How do you handle syncing
audio to stretches of small screen changes?
    Regards, Myron

    Hi Myron
I won't argue as to whether this is good, bad or indifferent
interface design. But it is what it is and as far as I know it
cannot be changed. At first I thought perhaps we might see a change
if right-clicking the image and choosing "Zoom in". But all that
does is zooms in on the waveform.
This doesn't help any, but you may wish to make the
development staff aware that you would like to see the behavior
change in a future version. You may do this by
    clicking
here and completing the form you should find there.
    Cheers... Rick
