EDL export produces... nothing?

Trying to export EDLs for a series of shows as it is one of the deliverables.
When I try to do the export I look in the folder that the edl should be in and... nothing. No file is exported.
Trying to do a test with a small sequence it works. But when I try to export the EDL of one of the shows it just does nothing. You click on "OK" and the dialog closes and nothing happens. I have tried all the variations of EDL and other settings and always the same result.
FCP 5.1 (and 5.0.4 yields the same result)
Anyone?
Thanks,
jason

Wanna send me a sequence and I"ll see what happens here? Copy one sequence into a new project, save the project, zip it and attach to an email. My email is in my profile.
You might try deleting your fcp preferences. Try copying the contents of the sequence into a new sequence.
I'm assuming you understand the limitations of edl's. One video track and 4 audio tracks, no segment effects, simple dissolves and wipes only. Computer files (as opposed to video captured with device control) will cause problems. There are ways around these problems, but one of them may be the source of your problem.

  • MAJOR EDL Export BUG in 8.2!

I just upgraded to version 8.2 and now there is a major bug when exporting EDLs with audio clips!   EDLs (cmx3600 format) should only export Timecode In/Out for Source & Record.   The latest 8.2 version is now incorrectly outputting SAMPLE FORMAT for EDLS for any audio clips!  This is a major bug and potentially show-stopping.
    What 8.2 is exporting:
What it used to (and should continue to) export before 8.2:

with my PP 8.2.0 (65) Build, I get the same error with edl WAV audio clips until I 'link' video clip with audio clip below on the timeline
I believe after linking the video clip to the audio clip (below on the timeline), then exporting the edl, the timecode format displays properly
However, my edl export ability still needs work, because I would think my video timecode needs to match my audio timecode (for linked clips) so I am still working on importing the edl into Speedgrade and 'hearing' the audio
I was getting the same error audio text file as AjentJJ30, until I 'linked' video with audio,
so far my edl text file appears as below

EDIT: as you can see my WAV file does not show the proper clip name, as well as not displaying the .wav file extension.
I chase after the edl displaying proper WAV data, but could not achieve any solid results. My dng video clips from the bmpcc have wav files, normally they do not import into Speedgrade with the dng sequence, so using the video clips to test the edl process isn't very helpful.
I can not get results to support having the WAV edl data working when importing into SpeedGrade.
    Sorry to think otherwise.

  • EDL Exporting and Importing 101 - Questions

We are testing Premiere's EDL exporting and importing capabilities for the first time, and are having issues. We set up a very simple test project with only 13 clips and a timeline with only 10 edits. This is what it looks like:
    http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/760/j00s.jpg
We then exported an EDL, started a new Premiere project, and imported the EDL that we had created. It looks like this:
    http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/32/6hd9.jpg
In the bin, Premiere has now turned our 13 clips into 41. There are a lot of duplicates, some of them appear to be audio files, even though they're still listed as .mxf, and the start and end times are all over the place. Our two questions are: Why is it making all of these clips? And how do you link the media? We started linking some media manually, but because the start and end times are scrambled, the edits appear completely wrong in the sequence that we've created.

There are a variety of options offered when exporting an EDL.
These options need to be considered in conjunction with how the Sequence (audio/video layers) are set up. (managed for the edl export)
Source footage management is vital in any EDL workflow and even more so when digital clip based ( as opposed to tape based linear assets).  ie. Digital clips have "unusual" filenames and are buried deep in folder structures. Filenames can be duplicated in a card to cards system. (mxf would be an exception)
The EDL is usually used between systems.
In your case  you are testing on the same system and assumeably the source footage resides there as well.  This is a case for managing the "source" so as the links work.
Example. When I take footage to a Resolve Suite out of house.  I set up all the source footage on an transfer drive in the same manner ( filenames, folder names etc) as the original local drive .

  • DVCPRO HD varicam EDL export - meaningless?

i just cut a varicam DVCPRO HD job and need to conform. export edl and clip numbers are completely random and meaningless. this is kind of a vital part of a post process and can't find any answers. Anyone know how to fix? I have made hundreds of edls and have never seen this. thanks so much and sorry for sounding curt but time is of the essence.

Hmmm...works for me. And I cut DVCPRO HD 720p24 at 23.98. Nothing wrong with my EDL.
Why are you making an EDL? For transfer to what edit system?
If Avid, then Automatic Duck is a necessity.

  • 320x240 QT export produces black bars on right and left

Ok, this one is strange. So far, it only appears to affect 320x240 targets from sources that don't have square pixels. Starting with a 720x480 DV movie (even if I change the properties to display 640x480), I export directly to 320x240 and I get a movie with black bars down the right and left. I did not tell QT to letterbox or scale, although telling it to scale does no help.
The problem seems to be in the meta data. If I go to the movie's visual properties and change the move dimensions to 324x240 (with preserve aspect ratio unchecked), then the black bars disappear. When I change it back to 320x240, they are still gone and the movie plays fine. I save it and reopen it, and the black bars are back! The same thing happens exporting from Final Cut Pro using Quicktime conversion. This is definitely a bug.
The work around is to export to another 4:3 format with square pixels first and export that to 320x240.
On a related note, the same thing happens when I record a movie in Quicktime at 320x240. I get a recording with black bars down the sides.
This has never happened to me before. I'm a professional QT software developer and a content producer. I've been using Quicktime Pro for a decade, at least. I've been over all of the export settings, and I've deleted all of my Quicktime preference files.
Is there a way to report a bug to Apple?

Regarding: "there's a pretty good chance that your playback target isn't Quicktime Player"...
My assumption is that if your material is 320x240, it's probably that size because you're planning to either display it on a small-screen device, send it to a TV set, embed it in a presentation, or deliver it via the Web. In any of those cases, your final delivery target isn't QuickTime Player, but rather some other mode, such as the QuickTime web plug-in, iPod, AppleTV, or even some other option. In which case the strangeness with the player doesn't seem so strange.
As a workaround, you could layer your 320x240 movie with at 350x240 grey rectangle on the layer behind. That would fix it in QuickTime Player, but it would cause grey bars on either side if you embed into a web page or something like that.

  • EDL Export help required

    Hi all
Finished the edit of a feature shot on 35mm 4p. All telecine files were conformed to 24 fps and then batch list imported into FCP. So far so good. The edit is now done and we are just about to go for the DI only the film list exported from FCP is completely wrong. Tell a lie, the pull list inside it is OK but the cut list is completely screwed. Any ideas, please?
Nothing wrong with the flex files and in main view the film standard for every clip is 35mm 4p
    Thanks in advance

    >>yes i wana to import it on the same server, this dump was taken 2 days back and nowa i wana to import it.
If assumed that import will be on the same database and on the same server,
    1) Drop the user first (For safe side, take the export of this user before droping).
    2) create the user again and assing the same tablespace as default tablespace how it was earlier, and grant the privileges.
    3) use the import command.
    imp fesco/password@fesco fromuser=fesco touser=fesco file=fesco_fullbkp.dmp log=fesco_fullbkp_imp.log

  • Premiere CS5, DPX import and EDL export

    Hello,
this is my first encounted with editing DPX files in Premiere, I've only exported projects to DPX so have a few problems. I received DPX files for editing and expected to return EDL. I've imported the DPX into Premiere as a sequence and edited the project - the problem comes is when I check the exported EDL - if I import the finished EDL all the clips on the timeline are not connected to the media; when I try to reconnect them, they end up pointing to the first frame because I can only select one DPX as opposed to the whole DPX sequence option. I've tried to import DPX file separately and recreated clips and cuts in the timeline - when I export that, bizzare thing happens - the finished EDL has all the files in reverse from start to the end... Sending the whole project to AE and exporting DPX was the last option because I wanted to find a way to export it from Premiere.
What is the correct workflow for editing DPX files in Premiere and exporting EDL?
    Thanks in advance,
    D.

Hey Sam... just wondering if you ever figured this problem out.  I have the exact same problem, albeit with FCPX XML's.  It's driving me bonkers and nobody seems to know.  Any insight would be truly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Export Produces 2-second MOV

I've made plenty of movies in the past half year, and haven't changed my export settings, but after completing a 13-minute video, today, my export took only 3 seconds and produced an all-black 2-second MOV file.
I can't seem to figure out what the problem might be. The file size is just 598KB, so obviously, it's not a full-sized movie. Has this happened to anyone else?
    Please help!

Wow. That was embarassing. But to be honest, I wouldn't have thought to look there. Thanks, so much, for the help! I really appreciate it. Everything's working like it used to, now. I'm not even sure how I accidentally set those short in/out points. Too bad full movies don't take two seconds to export like that.

  • EDL export error message

I've run into this issue before and inquired, but received no real answer, so I'm asking again to see if anyone out there might be able to help me out. When exporting an EDL, I often run into the following error message:
"Unable to export the key track due to an error. Click OK to export other tracks."
When I go back through and double check the numbers, they seem to be correct. The only 'unusual' thing is that it often creates a second EDL, referred to as +(filename) B+.
Has anyone seen this or run into this issue? I would like to figure it out to make sure it's not missing something, or that I'm not doing something right. Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Amber

Thanks for the response, Michael. The information you provided explains a lot.
Here's what I'm doing: I'm archiving projects, usually :15, :30 or :60 in duration. I am exporting an EDL, Batch List and using the Media Mgr. to skin it down to the bare necessities. I get all the information possibly needed in the event that the spot is needed down the road to be used on a different system or simply as backup in case of missing pieces and parts. The timeline does contain audio and graphic files, which you explained will cause errors. My guess is that I'm getting this error message for the reasons you explained.
    Does this information help?

  • Exporting error "Nothing can be exported until at least one setting is configured"

I imported a GPO Folder export into Microsoft Security Compliance Manager.
Then, I went to export it as SCCM DCM 2007 (.cab) so that I can prepare to import it into SCCM for Configuration Baseline data.
However, Compliance Manager throws me an error which I haven't run into on any other GPO's I've done the same process for.
Does anyone know what this mean and how I can fix this?
After import, I go to Export:
Save it as file name USGCB WIN7 User Settings_DCM.CAB
Immediately get this message, so it doesn't save after all:
    Microsoft Security Compliance Manager
Nothing can be exported until at least one setting is configured.
    OK
Does anyone know what needs to be configured? It seems to me the settings are configured? I haven't got this message until this one and I've done about 10 other exports with no issue.

Were you able to resolve this issue, I'm encountering the same exact issue (SCCM 2012 R2, SCM 3.0, trying to export a GPO, which was imported into SCM, in the hope of exporting it, to create a 'GPO baseline' in SCCM 2012).
    Regards TIA!

  • 919 Export- Insert nothing

I had selected a single record, and right-clicked to export->insert. Many sql worksheet connections opened. I closed the extra connections, then tried to export as insert statements again. Nothing happens. Restarted Raptor, same thing happens with the connections.

I am also having this problem on WinXP SP2 - Raptor v. 919. When I try to export, Raptor opens up all my available connections, and then gives this error (in a dialog box):
    Error Fetching Data (dialog title)
An error was encountered performingthe requested operation:
    ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis

    I hope this helps.

  • First time EDL exporting - not working

I am a longtime Premiere user, but I am exporting an EDL for the first time today. I decided to do a simple test - I put a few .m4v video files into a timeline, made a few random edits with the razor tool, and then exported the timeline as an EDL. When I import the EDL into a new project to test how it did, it knows to put those video tracks into the timeline, but it doesn't make any of the edits that I made. What am I doing wrong?

1 video track, 2 audio tracks. As for the edits, they just aren't there. Here's a screencap of the original timeline that I am testing with:
That's three videos in the timeline, with a bunch of cuts made to the first one.
I then exported an EDL, started a new project, imported the EDL, and it looks like this:
Notice that it's putting the three videos into the timeline, but none of the cuts that I've made are in there. Basically, it knows what elements to bring in, and that they go into that timeline, but they left out all of the work I did on it.
By contrast, I exported a "Final Cut Pro XML," imported that into a new project, and it worked perfectly.

  • V 2.1.1.64 Export Data - nothing happened after clicking "Apply" to export

    Hi,
I just installed SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 and need help to figure out what's with Export Data functionality.
    Here's what I did:
    1) Ran a select statement;
    2) Positioned my mouse cursor in the Query Result area;
    3) Right clicked to get to Export Data option;
    4) Selected xls as output format; and
    5) Accepted default file name and location by clicking on 'Apply'.
It did not seem like an output file was being created and I received no error messages....
Where should I look to figure out what went wrong?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I've the same problem with the export data, and before start to write this post i've tried to made the changes to the sqldeveloper.conf and ide.conf but data files was created only in some queries result not depending by the number of row selected. For example :
    query A
    select ofx_cd_isti, ofx_dt_rif
    from ofx_datarif
    where ofx_cd_isti = '05188'
    Result 1 row
    query B
    select of1_cd_isti, of1_dt_stipula
    from of1_contratti
    where of1_cd_isti = '05188'
    and of1_id_fin = 1
    Result 1 row
I succeed to export the result of query "A" and not for "B". The data type of selected columns are the same (CHAR 5, DATE) and the results are both 1 row, but the two table are very different (just 10 row for query A, and 800000 for query B).
The location of data file created for the export of query a was C:\Documents and Settings\GS01140\Documenti\table_export.xls.
    Thanks in advance.
