Educational Uses for Mac Products

I've just joined the Technology committee at a school here in Atlanta. The school itself has a pretty impressive array of equipment, five networked PCs in each room with a PC laptop connected to a Promethean Whiteboard with a VGA-in. A Media lab with what looks to be about 40-2009 20" iMacs, wired via ethernet. A crash-cart with another 35 white Macbooks also 2009 vintage connected wirelessly and another crash cart with another 30 or so iPod Touches.
The school's administrative system is Windows XP of course and all of the teachers are on XP laptops. I'm just coming in this job and I'll get a better idea of what the equipment actually is and how it's being utilized. But I can already see that the implementation is anemic at best at this time and this committee is being charged with coming up with a plan to make use of these tools.
I do Mac and PC support for a few businesses in town and I fix Macs and PCs and do some web design and individual IT support on a small scale. I've edited a magazine and over the years have done design work on MiniCAD on a Mac and ran a small business on Macs and PCs, so I can certainly see many areas where computing can be used in schools.
As I head towards a meeting with the school administration and this committee next week I was hoping I might get some ideas from the very smart people here on the Support Discussions list about using the Macs and iPods we have to their fullest potential in an elementary school environment.
I would especially love to hear from any teachers or administrators out there who have had success in using their wonderful tools and how it has had an effect on the children's educational experiences. If you know of programs with success in this area, please point me to their websites or reports on their success and really any ideas about enhancing education with computing devices would be helpful as I prepare for this meeting.
I have a vested interest. I have three kids in this school 8, 7 and 7 and we're in our first years on our journey through the Atlanta school system and so far we've been really happy with the two schools we've been in. Our teachers have been smart and committed to learning, but many have struggled to find ways to incorporate computing in a positive way into their lesson plans. Computers are not always the best answer for learning of course, but I know they can be a powerful tool when used wisely.

Productive uses for Mac Mini?

Hi all, I remember using my PC to download music back when i had dial up 10 years ago. I used to leave it running all night and in this way it was doing something productive. Now I have broadband and it's no longer an issue.
It seems like new hardware is mainly used for gaming. Can it be used for anything productive? what can I do with a Mac Mini to make my life better/more efficient.
I'm looking for something that I don't need to actively be at the Mac Mini and just want it to work by itself.
Is there anything else I could have my Mac Mini do during the night?
I thought the folks on here would have the knowledge I'm looking for!
I don't mind spending time learning a programming language if it'll give me a chance to use the Mac Mini for something!

Useful for almost anything, as a computer can run scripts or macros to perform tasks automatically; could be used for a total house control system, everything from feeding a kitty to open/close windows, on/off lights, water a yard, mow the lawn, and anything wireless technologies could do.
I even saw where someone put a mini in their car several years ago and it helped keep the owner connected to the internet, had touchscreen, voice communication without a handset, etc. Since it runs off DC voltage, it could run on a DC-to-DC converter, and not need an AC power supply. It could control a solar power grid with backup generation. There are so many devices that control other things. And room for a few more, if you want to put together some parts or make something to perform a task not done a peculiar way, before. With a round world, our night is someone elses day. What can you do for them half a world away? Is your imagination as boundless as it needs to be, to innovate a new or fun thing? Or be one of a few to offer a unique service. Put the mini in a helium balloon and let it go solar power, with backup battery, above the clouds and pollution. Wireless. Like a micro radio station to walk dogs.
If you are looking for a task for a Mini, you could let a server farm host it for you in their own facility. Not sure if that would be profitable to you, though. But then you wouldn't have to look at it! LOL

Report to Generate Materials Used for the Production of FG/SFG Materiak

Dear Experts,
I am working for a Cement Factory. CLINKER is a SFG used for the production of FG Cement.
RMOPCK1 and FINECOAL are another SFG used for the Production of CLINKER
RMOPCK1
+ = CLINKER + (Different Materials) = CEMENT
FINECOAL
For CLINKER we will create process order every month similarly for RMOPCK1 and FINECOAL.
RMOPCK1 is using 5 Raw materials and FINECOAL is using 1 raw material
Limestone + Silica 1 + Silica 2 + Bauxite 1+ Ironore 1 = RMOPCK1 and
Rawcoal = FINECOAL
All the raw materials, SFGs are used for creating different variety of cement.
I want to know for a certain period how much is the CLINKER produced and How much is the raw materials used for producing the CLINKER.
When i try through KOB1 with the process orders for CLINKER it is giving me total usage ofr RMOPCK1 and FINECOAL for producing the CLINKER.
I Want to know for ex:
the quantity of raw materials (Limestone + Silica 1 + Silica 2 + Bauxite 1+ Ironore 1 )used for producing ex: 1000 TON of CLINKER.

What is the best online backup system to use for mac?

By online, do you mean backup to the cloud, where you pay a monthly fee for the service to host your data?
If this is the case, then there are a lot of services (do not know them all, but DropBox, CrashPlan, Carbonite, Mozy, SugarSync, come to mine, and that is not a complete list.
There are also services that allow you to backup over your home network or across the internet to your own storage. CrashPlan has this option (for free), and Transporter come to mind. CrashPlan talks to another computer also running CrashPlan that you own or have some control (could even be a friend or relatives computer). Transporter is hardware that you either provide some storage of your choice, or they will sell the unit with storage.
I'm mostly a CrashPlan to my own storage user. I backup to a Mac mini for my Mom (300 miles away) and Wife (she is local )

First of all, install iStat Menus so we can check the temperature and the fans at any moment to see if something goes wrong with your Mac.
If your computer is hot now, tell us the temperature and the fans speed

Education pricing for mac pro

Does anyone know if I can recieve education pricing for a new mac pro?

The education discount is extended to whatever specific products Apple chooses. I'm not sure how you are looking, but I see Mac Pros on the Education listings for my local university.
If your school is not approved that could be the reason why. I can only tell you what I know for here in the US.

Time Machine did not restore Microsoft Office for MAC Product Key

My Tdisk failed and was replaced under AppleCare. I then restored from my Time Machine Backup. I used the (Command R Power keys to initiate this). It completed without errors (eventually).
All Apps that I tried seemed to have been recovered successfully except when I attempted toload my MS Office for MAC Apps, I was asked for my product key.
Unfortunattely this was saved in an email on my system and I cannot retrieve it since I cannot open my MS Outlook.
Does anyone have a solution I might try?
Has anything similar happened to others?
I would appreciate any help you might be able to give.

There are a few apps that seem to record the identifier (UUID) of the disk they're installed on, as an anti-piracy measure.
I don't use that app, but as Thomas says, if you know (or can figure out) where & how the emails are stored, you may be able to use the TM browser to locate the backup copy of the email, and either use QuickLook on it, or restore it to an alternate location, such as your Desktop, and examine it there.
If you haven't done a new backup yet, Time Machine won't have "associated" the new disk with the old backups, so the backups of the old disk won't appear normally. If so, you'll need the procedure in #E3 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see them.

How do I get a Captivate SWF file converted for MAC products?

I thought I'd be able to publish to HTML5 and then use the APP Packager to get the file in a formate for Macs, but the HTML5 file doesn't work correctly. The program has 62 slides, and may just be too long to convert to HTML5.
I really need my program to work on MACs, and my SWF runs perfectly.

Okay - the big question must be:
1) Are you trying to publish an HTML5 compatible course, which users can view on their iPad using the Safari browser?
or
2) Are you trying to publish your course as an App, which must be uploaded and distributed through the App Store?
If it is number 1 then it is as Rod says. You need to upload all the published files to a web server. The users can then access your course in their Safari browser on the iPad by going to the URL (www.yourdomain.com/mycourse/)
If it is number 2 then you'll need to :
a) Get an Apple Developer ID
b) Run the course through the Adobe Captivate App Packager
c) Upload the finished App to the App store.

GPT (GUID Partition Table) and MacOS Extended (Journaled) are the standard (normal) settings to be used for external harddisks in conjunction with Intel-based Macs like your MacBook.

i hav alternative BOM for finished product in which different raw material component in both BOM of same finished product.But when i RUN MRP that time only one raw material requisition generate another alternative bom raw material requision not generate.
Is there any option when i RUN MRP that time we select one of the alternative bom component of raw material for generation purchase requisition.

MRP will select the BOM based on the MRP4-BOM Explosion tab -Selection Indicator .It can eitehr of these ways :
1.Maintain Production Version with different Alternative BOM and keep Selection Indicator -3 .So sysetm will look into only the Valaidty and lot size of the Production version and select the correct BOM to explode and generate PR for depednts based on stock situation
2.If you maintain Blank -then it will look into order qty and select the BOM according ly
As in your case , selection methods 3 will fit and you need to maintain PV with correct validity and lot size in MMR-MRP4-PV option .
Try in sand box with different lot size and validity with indicator-3 .Create Order and run MRP-MD02-1,,3,3,3,2
Check and revert
