EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II + Close-up 500D + canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX

Use the above lens with a Canon T3i, and Close-up 500D for macro photography. I wanted to know if I can use the "Canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX is mounted when the zoom lens 500D close-up.
And if so have to buy adapter or serial sequence assembly of this.
Thanks in advance.
Have a good day.

Good find. Canon didn't list it.

  • Combination zoom lens as alternative to 18-55mm & 55-250mm lenses for my T3i?

I have a T3i with 18-55mm and 55-250mm lenses.  Switching lenses while sightseeing is a nuisance.  The shorter one is needed for close photos of museums, galleries, close up sites, ourselves and our friends, etc.  Longer lenses are useful for many outdoor city and rural/mountain shots.  Is there a reasonably priced combination zoom lens I should be considering?  Is there somewhere I can sell my current lenses.  My T3i and lenses are less than a year old.  Thanks.
    Solved!

Most photographers say to buy the best "glass" (lens) you can afford because they will last a lifetime. Good lenses are not cheap, so my advise would be to keep what you have right now, and learn all you can about them and the aspects of taking photos. While you are learning you can investigate the different lenses, determine what type of photography you are really wanting to take, and so have a better idea of what you NEED in a lens. Hope thgis helped a little.

  • 55-250mm Telephoto Zoom Lens help

I can not get a sharp image with this lens no matter what I do.
    please can someone help me.
I tried taking pictures of some birds this morning and they are not sharp at all.
    I used a tripod too.
    thanks.Tina

We would probably need to see your image (along with the embedded EXIF data so we can see the camera settings that were used for it.)
But I'll offer a few general tips...
The default shooting mode of most bodies is to use "One Shot" mode. Canon bodies have a "One shot" mode, an "AI Servo" mode, and then a special mode called "AI Focus" which really just means the camera evalutes whether it should use One Shot vs. AI Servo mode on the fly.
In "One Shot" mode, the camera uses "Focus Priority" and does NOT focus continuously for moving subjects. Once it locks focus on something it's ready to shoot but it will not adjust the focus for a moving object. This means that at some point your subject was in focus... but has since moved from that position. You can fix this by switching to AI Servo mode.
In "AI Servo" mode, the camera WILL focus continuously... as your subject moves, the camera will continue to adjust focus... but the camera also uses "release priority" when in AI Servo mode. So whereas in One Shot mode (which uses "focus priority"), if you press the button all the way, the camera will not actually take the shot until it can lock focus first (which is why some people think their camera is malfunctioning when it wont take a photo in a very dark room -- because it can't lock focus) -- in "AI Servo" mode (which uses "release priority") the camera WILL take the shot when you fully press the button and it will do this whether it has had time to focus or not (so that's an important detail to remember). Half press to get the camera to lock focus and keep tracking your subject with your focus point (and it will continuously focus)... then fully press the button to take the shot .
The EF-S 55-250mm lens does not have particularly fast focusing motors... the STM lenses are faster and the USM lenses are the fastest. Action photographers will specifically seek lenses with fast focusing motors... without a fast motor, sometimes it may not be possible for a lens to track focus adequately -- however Canon does use "predictive" focus when tracking an object whose distance to your camera is changing at a uniform rate.
Also... you'll want to give yourself a nice broad depth of field so that a small amount of focus error wont really impact the final outcome. It will be easier to keep things in acceptable focus at f/11 (or even f/16) than it is when you're using a lower f-stop such as f/4 or f/5.6.
BTW, Canon does not recommend just leaving the camera in AI Servo mode. It turns out there are some nuances of the way this works which can trick the camera into thinking there was movement and altering focus when taking a non-action shot... resulting in missed focus. Use "One Shot" when shooting non-action. Use "AI Servo" when shooting action. I don't actually recommend "AI Focus" (that's the mode that auto-decides if it's an action shot or not) BECAUES there's a slight delay while the camera evaluates which mode to use and that can cause you to miss the "decisive moment" to grab the shot.
Hope this helps... I'll try to find the YouTube videos that Canon has which explain how your auto-focus system works. It is quite informative and tells you more about how your camera "thinks" when it comes to focus.

  • EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM Lens

Can the EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM Lens be used for macro. The resin I ask is because I am new at macro and don't know if I will enjoy it. So I don't want to get a dedicated lens as of yet. So I figured if I can use this lens for it I can also use it for other things as well expecially if I decided not to peruse macro or if I do wish to this one can still serve a perpus.

    Hi Jake.
The 55-250 is not a macro lens, and not even one of the ones that are kind of close to shooting macro.
You can look into extension tubes, which mount along with a lens if you do not want to get a dedicated macro lens.
Dedicated macro lenses are fixed focal length lenses (primes) like 60mm or 90mm or 100mm or 180mm. There are no macro zooms as far as I know.
That does not mean you can't use extension tubes on your zoom lens, it will just be a little tricky. You will want to set a focal length and leave it alone - don't zoom around- or it will change your minimum focus distance which might mess you up. With macro you want a long lens anyway, so just peg the zoom at the 55mm end and leave it alone.

  • Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM

Sigma released a new lens this month (July 2012)
Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM (not to be confused with the "Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM" )
So I was wondering when you might update the "Lens Corrections" Profile to reflect the new lens.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks McLion for taking the time to answer my question.  I was just worried that the similarity in the lens names might be cause for them to overlook the new lens, which is lighter and smaller than it's older brother.

  • Lens Detection - SIGMA 18-250mm F3.5-6,3 DC Makro OS HSM

    Hi Guys
I recently purchased the lens mentioned above as a universal and travel lens.
I did some shots to day and imported them into LR4.
By Default I always do lens correction when importing but LR4 detects this lens as "18-150" only, no make, no model.
I first thought: "damned, again this problem, I had it with that stupid Tamron lens" .... but the I did an import with the same raw (CR2) pictures in Apple Aperture and I get the correct lens data here:
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for your help.
    andre

Was some kind of a preset (called "Lens Correction") applied at the tiime of import? That is what the first line in the History suggests to me.
However, just because it was called that, does not mean that it has succeeded in correcting the image. Perhaps it was intended to turn on profiled corrections but did not, or perhaps those were turned off subsequently somehow (paste settings, sync, auto-sync, another preset, something of those kinds).
If you want to see the outcome of using that preset at that time. (as opposed to, what happened to the image subsequently) then you can click on that topmost stage in the image History, and see what the various image settings then show. (Important: don't actually adjust anything at all until you have clicked back "forward" again to the lowest entry in the History, or else you will lose all these subsequent History steps.)
When lens profile correction is turned on (either by your LR defaults, as customised by the user, or else by a preset, or else manually) then in order for this profile to be applied to the image, firstly the lens used has to be recognised and associated with a particular profile.
Even if no usable profile is found, though, for a given image - whether manually selected Custom, Auto, or Default (which also pays attention to the user's customised assignments) - the state of this Enable checkbox should persist anyway, AFAIK.
If that was formerly on and then turned off, this will be evident somewhere in the image's full History - provided that survives.
I suppose that if the earliest History of your image pre-dates the introduction of the profiled lens corrections feature, the "Lens Correction" reference may relate to pure manual lens corrections. I used, long ago, to run a series of presets each directly applying barrel, vignetting and CA adjustments which I had "eyeballed" and then saved against one of my lenses. With later versions of LR, it is enough to turn on profiled correction generally, then each image will get whatever is the needed profile applied.
So I now need only one import preset to do that, instead of several antique lens-specific ones (I find it better to do it this way, than through LR processing defaults). But that antique metadata wqould not provide for the enabling of any profile - since such things were not yet heard of at the time - and profiles are not automatically turned on when you bring images up to a newer process version. You would have to actively make that happen - cancelling those earlier manual corrections.

  • Canon EOS 7D EF 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS profile

I've created a revised profile for this lens and uploaded it to Adobe. For those without CS5, it also is at:
    https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B2gd5QRdoS7BNGFkMmEwMjktM2FhMC00OWY5LThkOWQtMGJiN2Y1NDA1Z DZi&hl=en
It seems to work well, except that vignetting seems overcorrected, at least in LR3. Adjusting the slider to 60 seems to be OK.

I am getting the canon eos rebel xs in a month  and am planning on getting a 2nd lens but cant decide between the 75-300 or 55-250? are they the same or is there a complete difference? which one do you prefer?

Assuming they have the same aperture range, most likely the 55-250 will be a bit smaller/lighter.
Other than that, the only real difference is that the 55-250 will start at a slightly wider angle and won't go to as great of an extreme telephoto range.
There might be some image quality differences, but you'll need to look at some lens review sites for that kind of information.

  • MSI P35 Neo-F (MS-7360): Computer randomly freezes while playing games

    Hi there,
I have reached the end of my technical knowledge right now and I'm not even sure if this area of the forum is appropriate. The problem:
While playing higher-end games like Crysis 2, Anno 1404, Mass Effect 2 etc. my computer randomly freezes and the last few milliseconds of sound are being looped on my speakers (kind of like a buzzing sound).
By "freezing" I mean that my computer becomes unresponsive to any action other than pressing the Reset-Button or holding down the Power-Up-Button (no reaction to Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+F4, Alt+Tab, no mouse movement... you get it).
There's no exact timing as to when these freezes occur. The fastest freeze happened after less than a minute of playing a game, slowes one (just today after switching to my newer case with better cooling) took about 2 hours.
This freeze only occurs while my System is under load. No freezes while browsing the web, using office programs, listening to music or watching videos.
    System Specs:
        Mainboard: MSI P35 Neo-F (MSI-7360)
        CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz
        RAM: 4x 1GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2
Graphics: Gainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti, 1GB GDDR5 VRAM
PSU: Antec High Current Gamer 620W (upgraded from Xilence XP600, 600W)
New CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 13 Pro (upgraded from OEM Intel Boxed Cooler)
New Case: Zalman Z9 Plus w/ 4x 120 mm Fans (Upgraded from a Case with only 1x 250mm side Fan)
        2 Western Digital HDD (1x 2TB, 1x320 GB)
1 DVD Reader/Burner (unimportant for that error I guess)
        OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
        2 Screens: 1x 24" Asus VS248H and 1x 21" LG Flatron Wide W2240T
Since this error is bugging me for quite a while now and since this is not the first forum I'm trying to get help from, here's a list of steps i already took to get rid of it, obviously to no good use:
reinstalled games where the freeze occurred
updated all Drivers (including cleaning old versions in safe mode; also tried older drivers)
        updated BIOS to v1.A0
        Reinstalled Windows
bought new Case and CPU Cooler to improve Air Flow/Cooling
checked Seating of all components (took out, cleaned, reapplied thermal grease where neccessary, re-inserted)
cleaned old case of dust (obviously no problem in the new case, which is 2 days "old")
ran 7 sequences of Memtes86+ without any errors
ran Prime95 without any errors for about 45 Minutes
ran Furmark for 15 Minutes under full load (burn-in test) without any problems, even though my graphics card hit the 100°C frequency-cut level
ran Furmark and Prime95 simultaneously without any problems
took records of component temperatures and system voltages without noticing anything unusual (at least not after i switched to the newer PSU, which is about 1 Month old - yet didn't resolve the problem)
tested with cyclic removal of 1 RAM device to further rule out RAM malfunction
tested with only 2 RAM devices in dual channel mode (Slots 1 and 3)
tried to reduce RAM clock (800 MHz --> 667 MHz) to no avail
checked S.M.A.R.T. values of HDDs, no issues reported
        tested without any background programs
raised/lowered voltages to RAM, CPU and Chipset in BIOS to increase logic circuit stability/decrease heat production
I need to mention: After I transferred my system to the new case, i was able to play longer than average compared to my old case. So I am guessing that improper cooling was part of the problem, yet improving cooling obviously didn't resolve it.
Since these freezes are really annoying and nobody could help me resolve this so far, I'm hoping to find some new ways of narrowing down the problem or even getting rid of it here.
    Regards
    Sebb

Lets be realistic. A system with a 560TI is recommended to have a around 31Amps under full load, a CX500 would be sufficient.
Have you monitored your CPU and memory utilisation ?
As suggested before, test the GPU in another computer to see if the behaviour is the same.
Whew, I thought for a second there that my common sense had left me when I saw that 60-Amp-Post ^^
Yes, I monitored CPU and RAM usage, there is no recognizeable pattern to be seen and it almost never happens under full load.
I will see if a friend of mine can test my GPU on his computer, and I will test it underclocked right away.
Though one more question regarding that: Should I only underclock GPU Core Clock or both Core and RAM clock?

  • Printing text in Gray color

    Hi,
I have forms which are  printing all the grey color text in dark black, on xerox printers. When the output is of PS type, it works all well and good, but for PCL, it is printing all black.
I have been using hppcl5c.xdc for PCL. Do I need to have a xerox XDC? If yes, where can I get it or what changes do I need to make to the HP XDC in order to make it work?
Is there probably a specific property that needs to be changed in order to get the Gray text printed gray instead of black?
Is there anything else that I am probably not doing right?
    Thanks.

    Hi
KEEP a BREAK-POINT and debug the internal table lines how it is coming
some overlap must be happening ..check.
Also check the code where you are getting this text into internal table.
    1) One way to debug smartform is to debug the Function Module of that smartforms.
If you want to debug particular smartform node that the solution would be,
insert a "Program Line" just above the node you want to debug and this program line write a normal abap breakpoint.
So whenever you call the smartforms, it will stop at this breakpoint and you can debug onwards.
    2) SFTRACE can be used for debugging SMARTFORMS.

I did a quick search and came across this. Although it is for a 432, hopefully this imformation helps as canon printers are assembled relatively simular.

  • Camera Raw RC 7.4 on Adobe Labs

Adobe has released the RC version of ACR 7.4 at Adobe.labs.com.
The Camera Raw 7.4 update includes support for many new cameras and lens profiles.
Camera Raw 7.4 Release Candidate includes a correction to the demosaic algorithms for Fujifilm cameras with the X-Trans sensor.
The following new cameras are now supported:
    Canon EOS 1D C
    Casio Exilim EX-ZR700
    Fujifilm X100s
    Fujifilm X20
    Hasselblad Lunar
    Leica M
    Nikon 1 V3
    Nikon 1 S1
    Pentax MX-1
    New Lens Profile Support
    Lens Name
    Lens Mount
    Canon 24-70 f/4L IS
    Canon
Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO HSM
    Sony, Pentax
Sigma APO MACRO 180mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM
    Sony
    Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM A012
    Canon, Sigma, Nikon
Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM C013
    Canon, Sigma
    Fixed Issues
The following issues have been fixed in Camera Raw 7.4 release candidate:
The grayscale visualization associated with Noise Reduction Luminance was visible after mouse release.  This occurred when positive Clarity was present.
The command/control + A “select all” keyboard shortcut did not select all photos.
Modifying the brush size using the Right-click + Drag method did not increase or decrease the brush size by the desired amount.
The crop overlay tool resized incorrectly when used in conjunction with the “Constrain to Crop” checkbox in the Lens Correction panel.
Hovering the mouse over a local adjustment pin would turn off the desired mask.
Horizontal artifacts occasionally appeared in DNG files.
Improved interactive performance at intermediate zoom levels (e.g., 33% and 66%)

Sorry this was my mistake.  Yes, we meant to say Nikon 1 J3.  And the Leica model that is newly supported in 7.4 RC and 4.4 RC is the Leica M (Typ 240).
The M Monochrom has been supported since ACR 7.1 and LR 4.1 (last year).

  • Help generate dynamic table in xslt for apache FOP

    down vote favorite
For the following xml file, i need to generate an xsl-fo file to be converted into pdf.
I am new to style sheets and struggling to create dynamic table. Please help.
Also, the width for each column varies, based on the column. How would i include this into the code?
The Column Headers and Column Values are dynamically populated in the xml file. Below is a sample.
Can anybody please help in generating xsl-fo or xslt code?

I did some xsl-fo a few years ago for a project.
It was an invoice generator spawning multiple PDFs out of single XML document generated from the database. Pretty cool stuff but very resource-consuming.
I'm a bit rusty but here's a basic example for a single table, based on your sample data :

  • Help with asp code

    Helleo Everyone
I have been given a website to ammend and although i am not new to dreamweaver and using asp within dremweaver i sometimes struggle dealing with stuff that may have not been created with the tools i am used to.
I have a page that displays information relating to different clocks the page gets its info ftom an access table called tblmovements, in that table is column Called KitID and another column called details that has link information that would go to another page.
Back to the main page all that i need to happen is when the user scrolls down to find the clock that they want i need them to be able to click on more details and for that to link to the page that is referenced in the details column in the table.
But i am not sure on how to do this.
The column kitID is a unique column.
    Can anyone assist
    Thanks
    John

    Hi Thanks for the response
Below is the page that shows the information, then where it says details that would then link to the appropriate page.
I did do a link using dreamweaver recordset to the column that has the link in it but every details bit went to the same page, so i understand what you are saying about identifying via the ID but thats the bit i am unsure of.

<h5> For Grandfather Clocks around 80 inches high and taller we suggest a 116cm movement with a 280mm width dial.</h5>
        <h5> For Grandmother Clocks between 60 &amp; 70 inches tall consider a 100 or 93cm pendulum Movement with a 250mm width dial. </h5>
        <h5>For Granddaughter clocks we suggest a 93 or 80CM pendulum Movement and a 200mm width dial. </h5>
        <h5>For  Laterndluhr Style,  Large Wall Regulators with 116cm 'Seconds pendulums, consider Kits 24, 25, 26, 27 28 and 29. </h5>
<h5>For Medium Height Longcase Wall clocks consider the 65, 80 and 93cm Pendulum Movements.</h5>
        <h5>For Smaller longcase Wall Clocks consider Kits 08, 09 and 09A. </h5>
<h5>Shaker Wall clocks require a movement of shallow depth and are usually without chimes - Frank suggests Kit 09 .</h5>
<h5>For Small Mantle Clocks consider Kits 01 and 02. </h5>
        <h5>For Large Mantle or Bracket  Clocks,  consider Kits 04, 05, 06 and 07.. </h5>

  • Lenses not listed in the Lens Optimizer in Digital Photo Professional

As the topic title states my lenses are not listed in the Digital Lens Optimizer. I've placed the CD in the tray, and yet the program says it's connecting to the server, and when done, they are not found in the list. The lenses are:
    EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II
    EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II
Why are they not listed? How do I get them?
     DPP version 3.13.0.1
    EOS 70D / EOS Rebel t4i / EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS II / EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS II / Sigma 17-50 f2.8/ Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 macro/ Canon EF 100mm f2.8 macro/ Tamron 70-300mm / 430EX II Speedlite / Canon FS 300
Canon Pixma MG 3100 / Canon LiDE 2100
Adobe Lightroom 4, Canon DPP, Corel Paintshop Pro X4

Of the lenses I have, the following are not supported by DPP 4 (However, they are supported "in camera" with EOS Utility 3)
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II USM
    Canon EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
    Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
    Canon EF 28-90mm f/4-5.6 USM
Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
    Canon EF 75-300mm f4.5-5.6 USM
I don't care if they are "old" lenses or not. Why have the correction profiles for "in camera" correction (when saving/converting to JPG) and not in DPP 4? They have the data, they could just port it over from the database used in EOS Utility 3.
These lens correction profiles bring new life to some of the old "film" lenses like the Canon EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens. That lens has lots of distortion. However with in camera correction, it now produces good pictures.
I am not a professional photographer. I am a photography enthuisasts. I'll NEVER spend $1,000.00 or more for an "L" series lens (in fact I sold the Canon 24-105 f/4 L "kit lens that came with my EOS 5D. It was way too heavy, and the zoom on the low end was cramped (only 4mm movement between 24mm and 28mm). I like/use my Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM and Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM better.
Maybe my mistake is that I am using a program call Digital Photo Professional and I am not a professional. I noticed that that software leans heavily and supports the "L" series lenses.
