    Hi all,
I seen a video clip when cs3 first came out. The male author was showing how from Premiere Pro, place a video clip ( a D.J. spinning records) into Illustrator and then changing the colours and back into Premiere. Tried to find it, but cannot.
Anyone any ideas how to do this and where I could find the tutorial.

  • Clipping Masks Illustrator cs6

When I tried to click 'make a clipping mask' it came up with an error saying that the selection needs to contain more than one object....help please??

The exception to this is "Layer Clipping Masks". In that case only the layer needs to be highlighted in the Layer panel, as long as the top object in the layer is the intended clipping mask path.

  • A marriage made in Heaven..Illustrator & Corel Draw.

    Just sayin...
Starting a new job over a year ago, I was forced to do production art in a program called Corel Draw. I was born and raised in Illustrator, and I love so many feature that Illustrator has but..... I have also learned Corel and usig it in print production some of the features just blow away Illustrators version. I got spoiled with the ease of use. Now that my company is trying to switch over to Illustrator we are getting very frustrated. I would love for Corel Draw and Illustrator to get married. Adobe please please please incorporate a tool like the following in next versions of Illustrator
Corels "Power Clip" Vs Illustrator "Clipping Masks"
Corel allows you to put things in a nice clean container. Even in outline view you can not see what is hidden in the power clip. With illustrator in outline view its like nothing was ever put into a clipping mask. I want clean... we put our own printers marks on manually and trying to see through all the scribble it tough.
Better Editing in Corels "Power Clip" Allows you to go in and edit anything from text, color etc. then escape back to your original View. Editing an Illustrator clipping mask is cumbersome to say the least. Lets make it simple please.
Corels "Transform Tools" Vs Illustrator transform tools....
Corels ease of use especially for "step and repeat" is unmached in Illustrator.. Corel is so easy while Illustrator is like driving a semi-truck. Its just plain old clunky!
Don't get me wrong I love Illustrator..... I just wish the two would get married and make the best of both worlds.
    Just sayin....

Would like to add Corel's ability to utilize blending modes from Phothsop layers (eg: so Photoshop drop shadows multiply rather than gradiate when placed on top of backgrounds in illustrator).
Illustrator is great, but more competition would be good for the graphics market, so we get the level of software development we had in the past. Where is Kai Krause, we need him.

  • Aplicar Efectos a Texto en Photoshop y replicarlo en Illustrator

    Buenas tardes:

  • Will not power on nor boot up - Presario CQ5320F, M2N68-LA (Narra6), 250W, Window 7 64-bit

    Boot up problem - Compaq Presario CQ5320F Desktop PC, M2N68-LA (Narra6) mobo, 250W psu  Window 7 64-bit
    ok here it is:
Computer used to shut off intermittently
After pressing the power switch a few times or holding it for a bout 5 seconds
it would come back once is while (very few times).
Then if we let sit over night sometimes it would work in the morning.  then it would work for about a 1 day or 2 before we had to do it again,
Since then I have (I am a little savy with PCs) opened up the chassie.
I have removed all connections except the 20pin and 4pin psu connections.
Tried to start again and no bootup.
I bought a new psu (not an HP one but it is still a compatible 250W).
    Still no power up.
I had a 480W psu and tried that still no power up.
They all show a green light on the outside when plugged in,   Even took out some RAM.
Even moved the cmos pins back and forth.  Change voltage switch back and forth in the back of the psu (it is set to 115V).
NOTE: For all three psu’s I was able to jump start them with a power clip and then the fans started to work but still no bootup.  But by using the paper clip was the only times the fan would work.
The only thing I did notice was when the attempt to bootup with the original psu and a vga monitor plugged in, the monitor said “enter power-save mode” and then shut off.
My last resort would be to get a new power switch.  That is the only thing I can think off and of course the last thing would be that my mother board is dead).
(is there a way to check your motherboard with a voltmeter, I doubt it).
I did remove and re-install printer drivers for a brother laserjet, have norton 360 and hp and windows updates running.
my son plays games on the internet, have itunes but is that is about it.  i was able to do this when it would work again for a new days.
Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated and an early xmas gift,

  • Matching colors: Illustrator to PowerPoint

My apologies if this is an old question that has been asked and answered a million times.
I have a corporate logo which was produced in Illustrator (created in RGB using the sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1 profile) that I want to export to a PNG file then insert into MS PowerPoint presentation. The problem is that the apparent color is changing. I am quite certain this is related to color management and I need some help getting this right.
Note: My monitor is calibrated and Windows is using the monitor profile. My default Illustrator color working space is sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1.
I think the best way to explain my confusion is by way of an example of one of the colors in the logo and a third-party color picker tool.
In Illustrator, with the sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1 profile assigned, the color has RGB values of 195, 22, 28. According to the color picker, the RGB values of the apparent color are 169, 52, 38 - and this is the desired color. When I export the PNG and insert it into PowerPoint, the RGB values are 195, 22, 28, but this is the ‘wrong’ color.
If I assign the monitor profile, Illustrator still reports RGB values of 195, 22, 28, but the color picker now reports RGB values of 195, 22, 28; and this is the same color as in PowerPoint. But again, this is the wrong color.
The color I want is 169, 52, 38. What is the correct combination of color setting, profile assignments, whatever, such that this is the color which appears when the PNG is imported into PowerPoint? I am assuming that there is a way to accomplish this which does not require actually changing the colors in the Illustrator document itself.
    Thank you!

Illustrator is color managed. If you set the colors by values you enter the desired values, then Illustrator checks what your document and monitor color spaces are, and if they are different it translates the color values from the color space of the document to the color space of the monitor by sending different color values to the monitor to achieve the correct appearance of the color in the document color space. Your third party color picker picks the values sent to the monitor not the values you assign in Illustrator and you can do this also by a simple screen capture and measuring the values.
Power point is not color managed, it sends the same values to the monitor as the values in the image. So it cannot simulate any other color space like sRGB but the values are always displayed in the color space of your monitor which is not exactly sRGB. and thus resulting in a difference of the appearance of the same color values between Illustrator which can simulate sRGB and Power Point which cannot. You can not make Power pint match illustrator because it is not color managed but you can mach Illustrator to Power point by turning off the color management and one way to do it as you have discovered by yourself  is to have the document color space and destination (your monitor) set to the same color space (which in your case is your monitor color space(profile).
So, in conclusion you can not trust the appearance of the colors in Power Point to be something others can reliably reproduce.
May be you should specify what your final goal is. What do you want at the end, the color appearance in Illustrator on your monitor to match? If all you want is to match Power Point on your monitor then work in your monitor color space. If it is something else, please specify and we can try to decide what is possible and what not.

  • Clipping masks in ai CS5 deletes strokes and other crazy things

When creating a clipping mask, Illustrator CS5 deletes the stroke on the mask itself and when I add the stroke back in, it adds the same stroke to objects within the clipping mask.
In the file below, Figure 1 shows a rectangle with a black stroke and an orange circle with no stroke. Figure 2 shows the result of creating a clipping mask - the black stroke on the rectangle has been deleted. Figure 3 shows the result of adding the black stroke to the mask - it adds the stroke to the orange circle as well.
This is one of the many things about Illustrator that lead me to believe that the people at Adobe have never tried to work with their own programs. Why on earth would I want the stroke to be eliminated in the first place and why would I want it to be added to the items inside the mask when I go to replace it?
Is there something I should do differently or is this yet another oversight I'll have to work around forever?

Thank you to Larry and Scott! That's exactly right. I wasn't aware that by making a clipping mask you also make a group (and I'm not entirely sure that it logically should) but using the direct selection tool does the trick.
    Thanks again,
    Dave

  • Illustrator Artwork Artifacts

    Hello.
When I import Illustrator CS3 artwork into Premiere, some of the artwork has little dotted artifacts within the boundary of the clip. It doesn't affect all the artwork, just random ones.
I've tried turning the compression on and off when saving the Illustrator file, which made the artifacts disappear on some clips, but not others!
Does anyone know what is causing this?
    Many thanks.

    Hmmmm. Just figured something out.
If I open up one of the affected clips in Illustrator, draw a box under the artwork and delete it again (just to activate the Save function), resave the artwork, then go back into Premiere, when the clip updates, the artifacts disappear. If I do the above again, the artifacts return!!!
What on Earth is going on?

  • Clipping path

The paste inside in Freehand is ingenious for me use, so the clipping path in Illustrator is much more inconvenient.. Takes longer time to do this operation because you have to watch out that none of the layers disappeares behind each other. But when I am making a .eps of the .ai file that includes Clipping path, Illustrator chrashes.. Is there any solution on this problem?

    Clipping path
I need an .eps file so I can make a .tiff file in Photoshop, then I upload the tiff file in a system we have, so I can get the picture on our web page(the uploading system converts the file into a .jpg in different sizes)
But what is the problem of making a .eps file that includes clipping?
I make jigsaw puzzles, and then I need to get everything inside the frame of the puzzle. Like I used Paste inside in freehand.
We have an archive that includes all the puzzles we have. that archive is only .eps files.

    http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc260f3/3

  • ATI R9 290x - Mac Pro 2009 4,1

Hey all. I just wanted to share my experience with video card upgrading. I have searched tireless on all forums to find solid answers and figure out what the **** I can put in my computer.
I ended up buying an ATI Sapphire R9 290x off eBay for like $225. The real reason is for playing games in bootcamp running Windows 8.1. Otherwise, I really didn't need to buy a new card running in Apple's OS X for work.
My biggest concerns were 1) will the video card even work and 2) do I need another power supply for it.
I don't care about EFI flashing, I really don't see a need for it. I have my old ATI 4870 if there were a reason I need to use that. The selection for non EFI cards are far better and far cheaper.
Back on point. Initially I had issues with the 290x, nothing working with my current setup. I also purchased a 6pin to 8pin PCIe cable for the card's power.
I use the system for Protools HD. Besides the video card I have an AVID Native HD PCIe card and a 4-port USB3.0 PCIe card. I also use each hard drive bay. Mac OS, Windows 8.1, an separate spare drive, and one for Time Machine backups.
After several attempts, I took out the PCIe cards and all the hard drives, except for the Windows drive, and it booted up.
To make a long story short, I had to install OS X 10.10 on my main OS X drive for the card to boot up with everything else connected. I did a clean install because of some conflicts between a generic USB3 kext and OS X 10.10.
So everything was cool. Running Protools in OS X 10.10, no problems. Running Battlefield 4 in Windows 8.1 seemed to be going fine at first, but I had a couple of shut downs after about 30-60 minutes of play. I added a separate power supply (650w) and that seemed to take care of the sudden shutdowns. Likely the Mac Pro power supply is just a hair short of power when it starts to stress out on more intense stuff. Also for those who don't know, to run the power supply separate, you have to do the power clip trick (google it). It might that if I wasn't running the other two cards and other hard drives, I might not need another power supply, so I would try without it first if that's the case for anyone upgrading.
***** because I have to keep the case open for now until I find a better solution to the power cable, but at the end of the day, running Battlefield 4 with Ultra settings, is worth the hassle this was.
    Hopes this helps anyone else.

Thank you for daring to bravely forge ahead into the unknown compatibility mire of graphics card land.  I was hesitant to think beyond the different that Apple intended for the Mac Pro and try out the 290, but finding your post and another on Barefeats has assuaged my doubts.  We will soon be replacing our non-approved 6870 1GB with the non-approved power hungry beast that is the 4GB 290.
If you're interested in testing your soldering skills, I found a site that generously provided details on how to solder a relay between one of the SATA power plugs in the drive bay to the green and black wires on the motherboard connection of the external power supply.  This way the second power supply turns on and off with the Mac's power supply, so there is no need to switch it off and on manually.
Soon our aging 4.1 will get its much needed pacemaker and not have to wheeze through increasingly graphics hungry games like Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous.
    Keep MacIn'

  • CS4 Problem on Mac - Need Help

I was working on a few Illustrator files when the electricity in our building went out. My iMac computer restarted automatically, but all the apps that were open closed. I went to reopen the Illustrator files that I was working on before the power outage and Illustrator will not open any Illustrator file. The app quits before opening any given file - this is also happening with my CS4 version of Photoshop. I have not checked the other apps that are included in CS4, but I am sure that they will react the same. I opened these same files on a different computer with CS4 Illustrator version and they opened with no problems. I also ran a diagnostic test (TechTool Deluxe and Disk Warrior) on my computer and all seems to be functioning properly. It looks like the problems with CS4 are isolated to my computer. I believe that all other (non CS4) apps are working fine.
I ended up uninstalling all the Adobe CS4 apps, then I reinstalled them. I tried to open both Illustrator and Photoshop files and both apps still quit before opening any file. Both Acrobat and Media Encoder seem to be working fine. These apps open and also seem to be working correctly... CS4: InDesign, Media Player, Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Device Central, Bridge.
I don't know what else to do, and Illustrator is something I must be able to use every day.
In case this helps, here's the error message I get when I try to open an Illustrator file:

  • G3/300 desktop won't boot from CD

I'm trying to get my G3/300 to boot from CD so that I can reformat the HD to reinstall OS. The computer only spins for a short while and the computer spits the CD out when I start with "C" depressed. What is the problem?

I agree. I don't think your discs are bad, I think the version numbers the Mac remembers are bad.
The thing that may be wrong is that its last-running OS and OS-type parameters, held in battery-backed Parameter RAM, have been set to version 20 zillion of OS #256 as the preferred software. If you reset the PRAM, you will set the parameters back to factory defaults, and it will not spit the disc out and may try to boot.
