Effect Controls - sluggish

(Newbie).  I was just starting to get to know CS4 when I bought CS5, but I notice with my CS5 that adjusting things in Effect Controls is very sluggish.  If I click on the "100" of brightness (say) and drag left or right, I have to move the mouse about 6" before anything happens.  There seems to be some sort of backlash or hysteresis there which wasn't there with my CS4.
My system is: PC, i7, 12Gb, 2 Tb Raid0, 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate.  Could it be that my graphics card is only a GTS250 (1Gb) and I need to invest in a GTX285, or have I got some setting wrong?
Thanks - Eddie

No, you won't see it in an FAQ, at least not an official one. I noticed this a few weeks back, and Harm revealed all.
The 5.0.1 update is a single-issue update, and doesn't fix this particular problem. I would guess it'll be in 5.0.2 or 5.1.0, depending on how many other changes come along. Whichever it is, I don't think it'll be too long to wait, but I have no real idea. Just gotta wait it out...

  • Problem with premiere pro effects controls

    Hi, Merry Christmas;
I have a problem using keys with the opacity effect in the effects control panel; the following pictures should I think make my problem clearer to understand:
The image above shows that the opacity control of the correction gopro clip is at 100% which unless I've drunk too much champagne, is in full view on the screen!
I want to make a transition effect showing the raft appearing in the window of the following picture which is an Indian Granary above the Colorado river.
On my clip of the Granary I zoomed up to the window as to give the impression I get into the granary itself; When I arrive at this moment I begin, with key frames to have
the granary interior pass from 100% opacity to 0% at the end of the granary clip. Unless again champagne is very bad for my health and vision, I should see then the river
and the raft! Well I don't and that gives me nightmares! What is wrong? I add that to have a smooth and regular zoom I have used time remapping on the granary clip.
The granary clip is the one just above the correction gopro clip and overlapping it by the duration of the dissolve shown selected in the picture below(I could of course use a dissolve here, but I want to economize on a supplementary effect)
below is the  view with the screen and the opacity of the granary clip at 25%. Normally the clip of the raft should be quite visible then! the red-orange on the right of the screen is the interior wall of the granary!
    Thanks for any suggestions... Claude

Stacking in Adobe products is prototypically the top being the final thing you "see". If you have two clips, one atop the other, you will normally see the top clip & nothing from the bottom clip ... unless the top-most clip is given some transparency by say bringing its opacity setting down.
Think of it as the bottom layer "feeds" up to the next higher layer and so on. What comes out at the top is what you will see as the final product.
Much of my work has been short interviews cut with b-roll & stills. The basic interview sits on V1, and I use V2 and only occasionally V3 for the b-roll & stills that I'll cut to for variety, information, or simply interest retention during the running of essentially the audio from V1. This works nice, as I can expand or trim the b-stuff as it seems right while playing back. Then if I want to put in a transition, as part of polishing, I can either trim out the V1 section and move the V2 clip "down" before adding transitions or do a razor on V1 on both ends and add it to the end of the clips. Typically I cut out the section.
The lesson is ... putting anything on a higher track replaces the viewable video of anything under it. Unless you reduce the upper tracks opacity.

  • Key frames effect controls and Fast color correction

I just learned about keyframes and gradual transistion of effects and i like that a lot.
Putting it in practice using the Fast color correction feature ; I seemed to miss the key navigation bar (I hoped to find it on the right side of the Fast Color corrector title line or ??? in the effects control panel)
I guess I'm looking at the wrong end of the world, or do keyframes not exist for fast color correction, I seem to notice the keyframe navigation for time Remapping and opacity..... where did I lose the keyframe navigation bar for fast color correction ???
Pro CSS3 on windows XP fully patched
hoping very hard I'm just looking at the wrong side of the world
    please give me a hint.

  • Generate text from the effect controls

Is it possible to generate text from a textfield (or something similar) from the effect controls?
I have an Adjustment Layer with a custom effect on it with a Slider, two Color pickers and four Checkboxes.
Can I somehow add a textfield that the user can input text in, and then link this to a text layer in the composition?
The reason I want this, is because the user can add all the information in one effect, instead of having multiple text layers to edit.
I don't think there is a textbox for this, but is there anpther way? Let's say I add an effect that has a dynamic name, that I can link up to the source text of my textlayers in the composition.
Any help would be much appreciated
    Eirik

    Thank you for fast reply!:)
Ok, then I guess it can't be done, not the way I hoped anyway.
This is the effect I have made. I have linked the properties to other layers.
What I wanted was an input field where the user inputs for example "My Title". The source text of my text field in the composition would then update to "My Title".
I know I could probably do this by code, but then the original point kinda disappears. It should be easy for the user to adjust the settings under one effect, instead of having to adjust it multiple places.
I guess the user have to edit the textfield in the comp by actually going into the layer (doubleclick it/highlight it with the text tool etc.) unless you have a genius workaround? (Please say you do:P)

  • Effect Controls motion - tutorial?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good tutorial? I need to learn more about fine control of motion under "Effect Controls". 'Ease in' and 'Ease out' are not enough. For example; if zooming out from the centre of a still picture, until the picture fits the screen or further, the zoom increases in speed as it pulls away from the centre of the picture until by the time it reaches screen-fit or beyond it's racing. How can I programme a start-to-finish even speed throughout such a zoom?
    Cheers,
    Aidan

Twirl down the Scale property to expose the graph editor.  Change the
keyframe type to Bezier.  Adjust the KF handles to create a graph curve
that changes faster at the beginning and slower at the end of the zoom.
FWIW, until you adjust the KF handles, the zoom is proceeding at a
(mathematically) constant speed.  The problem is that the constant speed
produces the illusion of going faster at the end.

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system?
Please review the following that I excerpted from an older post here regarding Adobe's PRE_help comments about Hollywood Effect and mention of
Red Noir. Does any of the following apply to any of what is happening to you.
    - Whenever I try to add an effect from the Hollywood Looks menu, it brings up a warning that all my previous effects on that clip will be deleted. However it will let me add those same effects *after* applying Hollywood Looks.
This is because of how the Hollywood Looks are designed to be used. Since these are effect presets (multiple effects in combination) that result in a specific "look"; they are best applied in isolation. If any previous effect is applied and we still allow a Hollywood effect to be applied, we will not be able to see what the effect does clearly. For e.g. if you already have a Gaussian Blur effect applied to your clip, and then we allow you to apply the "Red Noir" Hollywood effect, the fact that the "Reds" in the scenes will be highlighted and the others converted to B/W will not be clearly seen since the content is already blurred out. So any previously applied effects was designed to be removed. This holds good even if you apply a Hollywood look "on top of" another one. The previous one will be replaced. Having said that, you can customize the look further by either tweaking an already applied filter or by adding a newer effect on top. That is the reason you can apply an effect on top of the Hollywood Effects and not vice versa.
Please review and consider and then we can proceed from there if necessary.

  • Color Correction Effect Controls Not Showing Controls

The recent upgrade seemed to work flawlessly until I tried to go back to some color correction I had started earlier.  In some cases, when I click on the Video Effects tab in the Color Correction workspace, my controls are there and working.  For others, when I click on the Video Effects tab, there's simply nothing there.  I have dragged effects back onto the clip and then gone back to the Effects tab, and still see nothing.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Any thoughts?

I have the same problem. I've tried removing all effects, adding more effects etc, but in the Effect Controls window all I get is the name of the clip highlighted in blue. I've also gone to Window and selected Effect Controls, but all this does is reveal or hide the Effect Controls tab.  The Motion, Opacity etc controls are not there when I click on the tab. Anyone have any ideas how to get the Effect Controls back?

  • Effects control micro adjustment on value with mouse

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is any shortcut or any way to move values on effect controls but with more detail control, more like micro adjustment.
I'm trying to do Color grade in premiere CC, since speedgrade is too complicate workflow for the kind of huge project I'm working on.
I'm adding adjustment layers with RGB curves and  3wayCC but the adjustment on values are brutal, you move the mouse a bit and the value changes a lot is there any command shortcut with the mouse to have a better control on the values?
    thanks a lot
hope someday adobe creates dynamic link with speedgrade like with AE. that will make Creative cloud the most perfect software for postproduction

too bad, hope the fix this on next version
where you want to have detail control is exactly the values that you cant do micro adjustments.
like color wheels, and levels curves.
I found that some values that have the sliders (min Max) if you open the slider you can move the slider with more control pressing command.
    thanks anyway for your answers

  • No Sound Effects Control on iPad 2?

Working with a teacher this morning who has no sound effect controls on her iPad2 (iOS 6.1.3). She stated that she has already completed restart and full reset with the same results. I have looked through all volume controls, all settings, etc.
Pecuilar thing is that if I want to test out ringers and sounds, such as default marimba and strum sounds, they work fine, but have no control over their volume as well. Volume controls in Music is also missing.
Pics attached to see screen. Thanks in advance!

    1. Double-click the Home button and swipe the Task Bar (at bottom) to the right. Check volume and mute settings.
    2. Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo

  • Markers in the Effect Controls Panel

I'm up to page 165 of the Premiere 6 manual, trying to understand markers, and it says:
Create markers in the Effect Controls panel
In the Effect Controls panel, you can view all of the markers that you created in the Timeline panel. You can also add markers to your sequence to designate where you would like to place effects and see the markers as you work in the Effect Controls panel. In addition, you can create and manipulate markers directly in the Effect Controls panel.
    1. Drag the playhead to the place where you want to create a marker.
    2. Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) in the timeline ruler:
In Premiere Pro CS5.5, and earlier, choose Set Sequence Marker, and then choose the type of marker you want to set.
In Premiere Pro CS6, choose Add Marker, or press the M key.
I follow those instructions to the best of my ability, and nothing appears in the Effect Controls Panel. The previous three paragraphs are labelled as CS5.5 and earlier. I'm wondering if this paragraph should also have been labelled as CS5.5 and earlier.
In CS6, do markers appear in the Effect Controls panel? If they do, how do you get them to appear?

Thanks Jeff. My Effect Controls timeline was hidden. I don't remember it even being there, but I suppose it must have been at some stage.
Now, another Marker matter. At the bottom of page 165 it states:
    "Move a marker
    Do one of the following:
To move a clip marker in a clip that’s in a sequence, open the clip in the Source Monitor and drag the Marker icon in the Source Monitor’s time ruler. (You can’t manipulate clip markers in the Timeline panel)."
    This is what I've done:
In the Source Monitor I set up a marker for a particular clip. Three things happen.
An empty grey Marker appears above the Timeline in the Source Monitor (that Marker disappears if I move the Playhead).
Two green Markers appeared inside the clip in the Sequence Panel (those Markers stay put).
The Marker details appear in the Marker Panel.
I can cause the Marker to move if I change the In and Out points in the Marker Panel, but I cannot "drag the Marker icon in the Source Monitor’s time ruler." I can't see any Marker, except the empty grey one.

  • My crop tool isn't visible in the effects controls of Premiere Pro.  Where could it be?

I've just downloaded Premiere Pro CS6 and it's all up to date.  When I go to the effects controls to crop a graphic the "crop tool" is not showing as in it's simply not there.  To be clear, it's not there at all, no selection for a drop down.   Is there some where that I need to access to make it show up or what?  The motion, scale, opacity, etc are all showing as an option, but not the crop tool.

I just did that write before I read this post.  I was going on here too delete this, but saw you answered it!  That's exactly what I did.  I've been watching tutorials and they show it as if it automatically shows up in Effect Controls...

  • Premiere CS6 Crashes in Effects Controls

I have a 2012 iMac with the AMD 6770M 512MB and Premiere allows me to enable GPU accel. but with it turned on, everything I adjust something in the effects control, it freezes the program and requires a force start. It works fine if I disable GPU accel. but it would be unfortunate to lose that power. Any thoughts?

    Update.
Imported same files in to CS5... works with no crashes, albeit with poor AVCHD playback performance...
Would like to have an Adobe response on this sort of thing.

  • Effects Controls will not show up in source monitor

I started a project last month using the trial. Now I have a paid student/teacher membership. Ever since it's been a nightmare of crashes and bugs.
All I need to do before finishing this edit is add a mosaic effect to a few clips. The effects window shows up for a few minutes randomly on reboot of the program but then soon disappears if I click off it. 99% of the time it doesn't show up at all.
I double click the clip I want to add the effect, it pops up in the source monitor. I then click Window, Effects Controls and all it shows in source is the name of clip highlighted in blue but nothing else.
I have reinstalled twice now, nothing changes.

I think you've proved the issue here was an update in CC and migrating the project file forward. And yes, since that was started on the other machine, there was an update.I wish this could simply be a painless process, but as Adobe staffer Kevin Monahan posts here quite a bit, it ain't. He's a long-time pro editor and was a member of one of the FCP design teams a number of years back, and was also a certified teacher of FCP back a decade ago or so. As he notes, he's always taught keeping any project on the software version it started on if at all possible. No matter the NLE, migrating a project forward has some possibilities of working fine ... BUT ... if anything does not work fine, this is BAD. Clients screaming & refusing to pay bills for late work, badmouthing one about the "hood" ... none of this any delight to anyone. In these days where an update can come every few months rather than say every 18 months, it's a pain in some ways. So he recommends keeping each major iteration (full number of PrPro, such as 6, 7, or 8) "live" on your machine as they can exist in parallel.
New major upgrade, start new projects on it. Keep old projects on old versions. And for continuing projects, keep working in the old while migrating COPIES of assets into a new project, testing as you go along, this way moving everything forward while still working away. When the new project is fully functional, then archive the old one & move on.
Some work ... but dang, having major shutdowns under multiple looming deadlines is past annoying. Well.

  • Effect Controls incredibly frustrating

Hi folks. I'm trying to do some very simple Ken Burns type things in Premiere. I want to add simple beziers on the Velocity and such but I find myself wanting to throw a brick at my computer. For one, the handles are incredibly tiny and very difficult to use. you move them slightly and the whole curve screws up.  Then I zoom out and my keyframes dissappear under the menu its self and I can't get them back. I can't move the timeline over to see the keyframe.  Am I missing something? fully zoomed and they're hidden.
See attached image? Where's my keyframe? It's there. It was there a second ago. Now it's under scroller and I can't reach it.  ARG.

Click on the panel menu (top right corner) and uncheck Pin to Clip.
That will let you zoom in and out.
If you want a realy big view.
Hover the mouse over the Effect Controls and hit the tilde (grave) key.

  • Effect Controls Blank For Any Selected Clip

    Hello Adobe Community,
After much searching, I have been unable to find a solution to my problem and so turn to you, the community. Essentially, I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CC and would like to apply a rotation effect to a particular clip (Accidentally recorded in portrait). Unfortunately I can't seem to apply any effect to any clip as the Effect Controls Panel is blank (Even though I have a clip selected there is no drop-down). Everything I have found says that the effects should just show up when a clip is selected, but I must be missing something. I am going to go out on a limb here an guess it is either related to the fact that the clip is an .mp4 or because I am currently using a trial version of Premiere, but I'm hopeful that you will be able to answer my question.
    Thanks in advance,

The addition of Master Clip Effects in PPRO CC2014 changed things a bit for the Effect Controls Panel [ECP]. In prior versions, since effects could be applied only to clips in a sequence (aka, a "track items")the ECP was unaffected by panel focus. Now, in order to serve master clip effects, the ECP is focus-sensitive:
When the Timeline focus and a single track item is selected there, the ECP loads that track item. With a track item loaded, the ECP always shows the "intrinsic" effects: for Video, Motion, Opacity, and Time Remapping; for Audio, Volume, Channel Volume, and Panner.
When the Source Monitor has focus with a master clip loaded, the ECP loads that master clip. Because the intrinsic effects are not supported for master clips, when a master clip is loaded the ECP will be empty until you apply an effect.
Setting focus on panels other than a Timeline or the Source Monitor has no effect on what's loaded in the ECP.
If master clip effects are a new concept for you, this page is worth perusing: Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Master Clip Effects
