  • Clipping Mask Effects in Fireworks CS4?

    Hello everyone,
I was initially trained on Adobe Illustrator, and over time
have gotten very pretty comfortable with it. Not too long ago I
started making mock ups in Illustrator, and would use the crop tool
to export particular pieces (buttons and banners) of my mock up
    into Dreamweaver tables.
But I recently got CS4, and now I'm all screwed up!
Unlike CS3, CS4 Illustrator does not appear to have the crop
area function. I can no longer export select pieces of my artwork.
I recently found out that this 'crop area' feature exists in
Fireworks CS4, so lately I've been trying to learn fireworks.
The problem I have with fireworks though, is that there
doesn't seem to be a clipping mask feature. I did stumble upon
something called 'group as mask' under the modify menu. But I don't
understand it's function, as it works nothing at all like
    Illustrators clipping mask.
Clipping mask is such a useful design feature, and I can't
bear the thought of doing without it.
I'm relatively new to graphic and web design, so here's to
hoping some experienced users can help me out with this!
    Cheers,
    Cory
PS: Please don't tell me the solution to all this is
photoshop! So tired of switching applications :)

I doubt you'll find many - if any - telling you the answer is
    Photoshop
    in this forum. ;-)
The term clipping mask isn't really part of the FW
    vocabulary, but FW
works very well with vectors and that is pretty much what a
    clipping
mask is - a path used to mask part of an image.
FW can mask objects using vectors or bitmaps. Here's some
    instructions
to create a simple vector mask.
    Open an image in FW.
Select the Rectangle tool from the Vector tool area of the
    Tools panel.
    Draw a rectangle.
position it where you want the mask to be.
Cut the rectangle (Ctrl+X or Command+X for Mac)
Select the image using the Pointer tool.
Go to Edit > Paste as Mask.
Your image is now masked by a vector. Both objects remain
    editable.
There is much more you can do; this is just a simple example.

  • Fireworks vs. ImageReady

Need a little help in transitioning from ImageReady to Fireworks.
In ImageReady I would have a PSD image from PS CS2 with all my states preset via multiple layers with effects.  Three layers (normal, over, down) each with its own effects.  I would pop over into ImageReady and generate my rollover states and then export it as an html page.  Then load it into my design in GoLive.
In Fireworks (yuk!) I have a PSD file created in PS CS4 done the same way as before.  And boy was it fun figuring out the differences for assigning states to a layer. <grin>  I export the html file and all I get is a small file with no rollover states other than the raw "normal" image.  Even then it took a while to figure out to export a png file instead of a gif file.
And I thought it especially nice, having spent my hard earned dollars for Creative Suite 4, to read in the Fireworks CS4 generated html button file that it is actually Fireworks CS3 with a "purty" picture and a FW CS4 splash screen.  When will Adobe ever learn.  Probably after the bigwigs screw their employees and us into the bargain!  ImageReady is a more intuitive program and worked better.  But then of course Dreamweaver does not accept a html file created in ImageReady.
And don't buy their Fireworks CS4 Classroom in a Book.  Of course it did not go into creating a button ported over from Photoshop.  That made real sense.  About as much sense as their online training for creating buttons with rollover states.  Morons!
In the Windows version of FW CS4 what ever happened to the good 'ol tried and true "ctrl+F4" to close a file?  Any program I've used over the years "ctrl+W" was generally used to write a file to disk!  So much for integration across the suite.  And did I forget to mention that you can no longer pop directly over into the web graphics program from Photoshop.  In PS CS2 it was right there in the File menu.  Again, Morons!
So in closing — how do I create a three state button and export it as a html file from Fireworks CS4 using png files?
Thank you in advance for the assistance.

    Morning Lorraine & Jim,
You are both correct in most regards.  The one overriding concern, and this is the way I have done it for years, is to preserve the editability.  Jim mentioned this in his opening paragraph:
Fireworks does not support adjustment layers. However, if you do not need to return to Photoshop with the design, you can import the file and flatten the adjustment layers, thus maintaining the "appearance" of the adjustment, but not the editability.
Preserving editability is why I design my buttons in Photoshop and create the Internet images and code in ImageReady.  As Jim indicated the Photoshop Live Filters in Fireworks are not robust.  I should quantify this and say they suck!  There implemention is a subset of the blur, noise, adjust color, other and sharpen tools of Photoshop.  For that matter there are freeware programs out there that do these functions better.  I chose not to use them.
Meanwhile what I have been referring to is Photoshop's Layer Styles which is something totally different.  And, as Jim was kind enough to indicate, is far superior to Fireworks' Filters options.
Things have gotten a lot more complicated for those accustomed to having used ImageReady for all these years.  What in ImageReady was created with a couple of clicks and an Optimize command has been replaced with a hidden plethora of obscure commands.  This is obviously a moot point if you wish to be limited by using the "symbols" and styles in Fireworks.  If you still desire to use the editability of creating a PSD or TIF in Photoshop and then creating your rollovers in Fireworks you need to learn these commands.
However, if you are satisfied with the results, and I call them glaring for want of a better term, then go ahead and forget Photoshop.  Create your buttons and rollover effects in Fireworks.  I detest the term "symbol" in Fireworks as it clashes with the usage of symbol in Photoshop.
Following are the steps needed in Fireworks for creating a button ported over from Photoshop.
Create your button in PS and assign the Layer Style for your appearance.  Name this layer normal.
For ease of use name each subsequent layer over, down, etc.  Create a Layer Style for each different from the preceeding one.
Save the file with some illustrative name, i.e. infobutton.psd.
Open this file in Fireworks Duplicate the State as many times as needed naming each state the same as your layers.
Select each state and turn on or off visibility of the same named layer.  Turn off the layers not needed.
In the Layers panel click on the "Slice" layer and add a slice to the Web Layer.
Add a Behavior to it. Use the Swap Image and select your "over / State 2" state.  Make sure that the Preload Images and Restore image onMouseOut are selected.  Check that the behavior has defaulted to onMouseOver.
Create another Swap Image behavior deselecting the onMouseOut radio button.  Change the Events drop down to onClick.
Follow the procedures for Export in the html page. (Unfortunately this does not make a html file usable by Dreamweaver in all cases—additional steps are needed.)
Make darn sure that in the Export | Options | HTML style dropdown window that you have Dreamweaver HTML / XHTML selected.  For some unknown mysterious reason Dreamweaver will not accept a Fireworks generated html / xhtml file if that file is saved as a generic html / xhtml file.  This demonstrates the not too nice interaction of Dreamweaver and Fireworks.  Dreamweaver should read any html file.  You really need to see this in operation to understand the ramifications.
As I said there is some integration between the two programs.  Not much, but enough that they are at least image editing programs of differing behavior and interoperability.  The inconsistencies can be tolerated with workarounds, I hate that term, and some forethought.  The days of ImageReady are long gone if you want to use Dreamweaver as your HTML coding program.  To use Fireworks in the same fashion as you once did with a Photoshop and ImageReady workflow entails additional at times confusing steps.
If however your desire is to create all of your graphical site develpment in Fireworks it is indeed a powerful program if a bit obtuse from other similar programs.  Fireworks is trying to do too many things similar to Photoshop, i.e. with it's Filters selectors, that are drastically toned down subsets of the originals.
Why would I have slices in Photoshop if they are not recognized natively in Fireworks?  Photoshop automatically has a Slice 1 for each and every file with the ability to add additional slices as needed.  This Slice 1 not recognized in Fireworks.  Create an additional slice (Slice 2) in Photoshop and save the file.  Open the psd file in Fireworks and only the second slice is recognized.  This easily demonstrates inconsistencies between the two programs.
Lorraine was kind enough to offer her assistance.  As she indicated there are "some" options.  However they do not include the creation of PNG files. as shown in her screen capture.  That being said she has two additional options that do not appear in my FW CS4.  I am referring to the RL-image and RL-thumb selectors.  It is likely something I missed.
Yes, she was very accurate in stating that Fireworks defaults to saving the image files generated along with the associative html file.  Whatever the prior image format was is what all succeeding ones will be.  A caveat however is that in the File | Export Image | Options | Document Setup the example file naming still shows the GIF image format as what the images will saved as.  Another, in my honest opinion, inconsistency.
I hope this may be helpful to others migrating from ImageReady to Fireworks and appreciate the assistance of all those who have participated.  It has been an interesting learning concern that should not have been required.  Perhaps a tutorial demonstrating just how to port over a PSD button file created in Photoshop to Fireworks would have answered all my questions.  At least for those of us more accustomed to ImageReady who have now migrated by force to Fireworks.
    Respectfully submitted.

  • Placing Fireworks file in Photoshop w/ Roundtrip Fireworks Editing

I have a solution but it seems clunky and since I'm new to using both tools together I'm wondering if there is a better way.
Right now I can place a Fireworks CS5 file in Photoshop CS5. But if I double click the layer in Photoshop it forces me to edit the file in Photoshop instead of editing it in Fireworks which would be ideal. Also if I just edit the file directly in Fireworks and save it in Fireworks it won't update that layer in Photoshop automatically, which would also be ideal. Right now I have to replace the contents of the layer with the file each time I edit it with Fireworks. Is there a better way?
I've read these two articles which
Launch and Edit Preferences in Fireworks (seemed like what I wanted but they have no effect)
Place Fireworks graphics in Photoshop (exporting seems like the wrong approach if I want to continue editing in Fireworks)
    Thanks for helping out!

I think this would be helpful as a feature, I t
ried using a linked FW file in an Illustrator document and then using the Illustrator as a smart object, the update work for the Illustrator Smart object and updated but Photoshop refused to recognized the updated smart object.
I cannot really understand this but perhaps just something that was never looked at before. In theory this should work.
Maqybe Chris has an explanation why it does not work.
Although I would say the pluyg in is something Adobe should look at if it could be had.

  • Love this but can I do something like this using Fireworks?

    Hi all,
Saw this site recently and really liked the background, http://www.rareview.com/ the subtule colours and gradients etc. I do not want to recreate this in Flash I am looking to hopefully do this in Fireworks for my site.
I would love to use the image attached and add very subtle colors and gradients to this. Am I pushing it with Fireworks? I have Photoshop and never really got into it, its just to complicated for its own good ;-)
Any thoughts or advice would be great.
    Thanks, P.

Yes I do have Firefox and I see what you mean. Hmmm I guess if you know these things it is very simple, posted this in Flash also and it has been pointed out there also.
I am toying with the idea of either trying this as a static image in Fireworks for my site or even venturing into trying to create a similar effect using Fireworks then Flash.
Attached is the image I love and would like that as the main image with only a third of it being displayed behind a solid header or footer, do you think in Fireworks I could add the type of subtle rainbow and vapor effect with gradients over the image?
My strengths have never been good with gradients and messing with colours in both Fireworks and Photoshop, I tend to make so much work for myself I then end up hating the result ;-)

  • Making a fade effect on dreamweaver

okay, what i want to do is make a fade effect on the pictures
that i have. what i have in the website are 4 pictures, positioned
    like this:
    |................| |................|
    |......1........| |.....3.........|
    |_______| |_______|
    |................| |...............|
    |......2........| |.......4.......|
    |_______| |_______|
each number indicates another picture, plz pardon my crappy
cyber drawing. i want the pictures to fade slowly, starting with 1
and ending with 4. So like this: (image 1 appears) (then image 2
appears) (then image 3 appears) (finally image 4 appears), you get
    the idea.
I know that there is a fade effect under dreamweaver behavers
but that effect isn't what im looking for because u cannot set the
duration of the fade, nor the time of it.
i also tried making .gif animation fade effects in fireworks,
but i dislike that because it takes too much space, increasing my

    Version 1.3 - June 7, 2004?
I wouldn't use that - I'd use jQuery instead. But as far as I
    know there
would be no way to program consecutive fades as originally
    requested.

  • Live effects pattern overlay

I'm trying the PhotoShop LIve Effects in Fireworks CS4, and trying Pattern Overlay. My problem is I only see controls for Opacity and Scale, not to change the pattern. There is only one pattern, which isn't very useful. I tried changing to another pattern in the main Properties but that doesn't change the single pattern in live effects, which looks like big bubbles. Am I missing something here?

Photoshop Live effects are more of a way to maintain existing Photoshop Layer Styles when a PSD file is opened in FW. Yes, they are of limited use, but they are functional. For example, the Stroke Live Effect is a feature that is not available in Fireworks. Very handy if you want to add a stroke around a bitmap image.

  • How do I Edit an Existing PDF Form Without Losing Form Functionality

I'm brand new to Acrobat but familiar and proficient with Flash, PhotoShop Premiere Pro, After Effects, Dreamweaver, Fireworks etc.
The company I work for sells office supplies. We sell 57 distinct items.  We have Acrobat 9.  I am designing a PDF order form with fields that can be emailed to our clients as an attachment.  They fill out the form, it calculates the total, they send it back to us, we fill and ship the order.  Basic and straightforward.
I can add form fields to my order/pricelist... not a problem.  The question is:
Once I have brought a PDF into Acrobat and add 57+ fields and calculations, which is a time consuming process, how do I edit an item price at a later date, if someone in the company decides to make a change to our pricing?
See..., If I save the original Microsoft Excel document as a PDF, Acrobat can't edit the text for some reason.  Something to do with "Renderable Text".  Now if I open the PDF saved from Microsoft Excel in Adobe Illustrator, I can use the text tool to make changes. That doesn't help me... just saying. Why can't I edit "Renderable Text" with the Acrobat Text Tool?  Someone in a forum stated that Acrobat is NOT a word processing program!  If that is an accurate statement, it would appear that Acrobat can at least work with base PDF documents to make certain types of modifications and add functionality.  Is that correct?
Here's the problem.  I create a PDF with form functionality.  Everything works great.  The boss says, I want to change the price of the scissors.  I can't change the text in Acrobat because of the "Renderable Text" nonsense.  Does this mean that I have to re-apply all of the form fields and calculations to the new base PDF document every time there is a minor change?  I know there has to be a simple work around.  Should I upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat?
Is it possible to save the original existing form functionality as a layer or overlay to be applied to the new modified base PDF document?   Kind of like so many other Adobe products do including PhotoShop, Fireworks, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Flash etc., so that all of the form functionality can be applied in one big chunk?  Premiere Pro has the time-saving feature of "Paste Attributes".  It's a real time saver.
It may be simpler to just direct me to a video that goes through the process of creating a PDF order form with fillable fields that multiplys quantity by unit price and totals one column.
I already created a prototype of the form in PhotoShop which can be saved as a PDF.  The finished order document appearance has 95 horizontal 3px wide lines and 6 vertical 3px lines, kind of like what one might expect to see in an Excel spread sheet.  The form also contains some graphics and unconventional text areas that acrobat could overlay text fields and everything would be fine.
With these great number of horizontal dividing lines, It doesn't seem practical or even possible to create the basic layout in Acrobat.  As I originally stated, I'm new to Acrobat and would like suggestions for a workflow that enables easy editing of an existing PDF document with form fields.  I want to avoid the monumental task of re-doing all of the fields and calculations.

For what you are trying to do that is probably what you want -- Replace Pages. There are a few more issues that you need to be aware of since this is a business form. If customers are using Reader XI, it is not an issue.
On the renderable text, can you see the text list when you look at the font tab in the document properties (ctrl-D)? If not, they you do not really have fonts to edit. This may be the type of fonts you used in the original or the way in which you did the conversion to PDF. You need to have fonts that are on your system and then be sure to embed them (otherwise others may not be able to read them because of different OS or such).
As to e-mailing the form, that is fine (though there are sometimes problems with various clients and PDFs -- but usually on the sending end).
For collecting the data you may want to try a different route. For users of Reader XI, they can save the form with the data. Prior versions could not do that unless you enabled the form for Reader. However, this latter process has a 500 form use limit -- A license issue. If the data is submitted, then it does not make a difference. The folks with Reader XI can still save the form with the data, others will have to print a copy for their records.
The data can be imported to the form on your end and so you would have the exact same results as what was filled out. However, the submission process should be set up to submit to a web script for your receipt and not use mailto. The latter has problems that you have no control over due to proper operation with the mail client on the user machine. Typically the mail client must be the default and use MAPI. In any case, it is not reliable (not for business use). So submission to a web script is useful. The data in AcroForms would be of the type FDF (or possibly XFDF). If for some reason use created the form with Designer, that limit any editing in Acrobat since it is no longer a real PDF, but an XML container that Acrobat and Reader can display and interact with, but not change. Again, submission to a web script is still preferred.
For dealing with a web script and some coding for various languages, you can check out the FDF Toolkit. It has been around a while, but should still handle the CGI needs of the submission. In addition, it has tools for adding the data to a database and other typical operations for data collection. You can save the FDF files and import them to the form and deal with the data there also.
The use of Replace pages would do the job if all your form fields will still need to be in about the same location. Form fields are mark up and the pages are referred to as the document. Thus the replace pages will just original page and leave all the form fields. You will still need to go back and fix the value within the fields themselves, but that is a field edit.

  • Almost every CC installation ended with errors :/

    Mostly revolving around 2 fonts:
    CharlemagneStd-Bold.otf
    MinionPro-Bold.otf
It says everything installed but there was a yellow yield sign next to each one afterward (with the error detail), so I don't know if everything is ok or if I will have problems.  In either case, I wanted to report it.  These errors came up for Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, and Fireworks.
The errors from the Photoshop install are here.  I can post the rest if needed but they seem to all reference those fonts:
    http://pastebin.com/hBtADmRK
    Windows 7 64-bit.

Burble4300 are your Creative Suite 6 applications able to launch or did the installation fail?  You can also locate complete details on how to review your installation log at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.
From an extremely brief perusal of your installation logs it appears that you do not have sufficient permissions to modify the fonts you indicated in your original message.

  • Synchronise symbol animation using Edge Commons

    Hi All,
I've been trying to animate a PNG sequence that I created with After Effects and Fireworks using the Edge Commons parallax snippet. I'm also trying to make this responsive. I have a vague understanding of the code used so I put together a few other bits and pieces of code I found on these forums.
The effect I'd like to obtain is to scroll down and synch the animation of the symbols with the scrollbar. Ideally I'd also like to reverse the animation when scrolling down and pull in other symbols but I'm not even sure that this can be done using inline code or actually creating the reversed animation within the symbol.
I've been trying hard in the past few days but this is where I got so far ;(
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/fr6ygqs16jq11fu/wedding_invite.zip
Sorry the file is pretty heavy but the png sequences aren't optimised yet.
    Thanks

    Hi Eric ,
There might be many ways to do the play and play reverse using click operation as described by you but this is what I think could be done .
    We can set a variable in our compositionReady function   sym.setVariable("count", 0);
Then in the click handler of the symbol we can write the following code
    var x = sym.getVariable("count");
    var mySymbolObject = sym.getSymbol("Symbol_1");
//Now check if you have clicked once then play otherwise play reverse .
    if(x%2 == 0)
              mySymbolObject.play();
    else
              mySymbolObject.playReverse();
    x++;
// Set the value of a Symbol variable
    sym.setVariable("count",x);
Please refer the attached composition . Hope it helps
    Thanks

I've recently rebuilt my computer. I downloaded the Creative Cloud desktop app and installed my favourite apps.
    I've installed the following;
    After Effects CC
    Fireworks CS6
    Photoshop CC
    Audition CC
    Muse CC
    Premiere Pro CC
    Edge Animate CC
    Edge Code CC
    Flash Pro  CC
    Illustrator CC
    Touch App Plugins
I have two extension managers installed. CC and CS6. The CC version contains all of my CC apps and the CS6 version contains Fireworks.
Why is this needed and when will Fireworks be updated to CC?
Will the CS6 Extension Manager be removed when Fireworks is upgraded to CC?
While we are on the subject, can I uninstall Adobe Application Manager now that all of my Adobe products are (supposedly) managed by Creative Cloud desktop? My second PC was running Application Manager before it updated to Creative Cloud desktop but it never uninstalled the redundant Application Manager...
Keen to hear Adobe's thoughts on this... I like to keep my computer clean and duplicate apps frustrate the hell out of me

    Thanks Laubender
    Well that's a bummer!
Maybe Adobe will be nice enough to integrate it with Extension Manager CC as one of their future "bug fixes" so that people who still need Fireworks CS6 don't have to manage extensions across two different programs... *wink wink nudge nudge*
It's just nice to have it all there in one place. That's what I thought the Creative Cloud was all about!

  • Elements 9 Freezes on Adding Canon DSLR video files

I just purchased Premiere Elements 9 to edit my Canon T2i video files.  When I try to add the video files by going to Get Media - From File, the progress bar pops up and goes away quickly like it is finished processing the addition to my organizer, but the video file never shows up.  If I go to Filter By and select the project I am working on to only show the project files, I get the Windows thinking icon and that is all the further I can get Elements to go.  After 1/2 hour or so I close elements.  When I open the project file back up, the video I tried to add earlier shows up.  I don't think I should have to kill the program and reopen it everytime I try to add a video file to the project.  What gives?  My computer is a Core i5 M430 with 4gb of ram on Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

Got a response from Adobe support and this is what they suggested:
"Solution 1: Update to Premiere Elements 9.0.1 update
    Do one of the following:
    * Launch Adobe Premiere Elements 8 and choose Help > Updates.
    * Download and install updates from the below mentioned link.
Solution 2: Update the graphic card driver.
Many video card manufacturers frequently update their software drivers. If you haven't recently updated the video card driver, contact the video card manufacturer for an updated driver, or download one from the manufacturer's website.
Solution 3: Update quick time player.
Open Quicktime player> click help menu > click update.
Solution 4: Re-create the preferences files.
Re-create the Adobe application preferences file to eliminate problems caused by a damaged preferences file. For specific instructions, search the application Help system for "restore preferences" or "re-create preferences." .
    Mac Hard disk > Users > username > Library > application support > adobe.photoshop.com.plist
(please remove the adobe.photoshop.com.plist file from this location and relaunch the application and kindly make sure the application is closed before your perform this step)
Solution 5 : Install or run the Adobe application from within a new user account.
Occasionally, a user account can become corrupted and prevent the installer from accessing or creating the necessary files and folders. Create an account, log in to the new account, and then try to install or run the Adobe application. For information on creating a user account, see "Creating a new user account" in the Mac OS X Help.
    Solution 6: Remove third-party plug-ins.
Applies to Acrobat, Adobe Reader, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Premiere Elements, After Effects, Bridge, Fireworks, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop Lightroom.
Remove third-party plug-ins from the application plug-ins folder, and restart the application. If the problem recurs, move the plug-ins back to the application plug-ins folder. If the problem doesn't recur, identify conflicting plug-ins.
    To identify conflicting plug-ins:
    1. Move one third-party plug-in back to the application plug-ins folder.
    2. Restart the application, and try to re-create the problem.
    3. If the problem doesn't recur, repeat step 1. If the problem does recur, contact the developer of the plug-in that you last moved, and inquire about an update.
Solution 7. Run the application while no other applications are running.
To maximize available RAM and reduce the chance that another application conflicts with the Adobe application, quit open applications (including virus-protection utilities). Then restart the Adobe application. If applications don't quit as expected, force quit them by choosing Force Quit from the Apple menu.
Note: Don't force quit the Finder, which is the core Mac OS component.
Solution 8: Install or run the application with the Login Items disabled.
To disable nonessential extensions located in the user accounts Login Items folder, press Shift while you restart the computer. Pressing Shift disables any applications that are in the Login Items folder.
This should resolve your issue. If it does, please let us know, however in case it does not; please revert with any new information that you might want to add which will help us in resolving your issue."
Nothing helped until I installed PRE9 under a different login.  I appears my install must have been bad from the start.  I had originally downloaded the trial and then used the key from the DVD copy I bought to convert it to a licensed version.  I'm thinking something went wrong in that whole deal, should've just reinstalled from the DVD when I got it.  Oh well, all seems well now and I can finally get some editing done!  It actually seems to work smoother than Vegas 9 did.  Could probably use a bit more RAM though.  I only have 4GB.  I know PRE9 can only use 4gb, but windows 7 and background stuff uses over 1GB when the computer is idle, so 8GB might give PRE9 a bit more headroom.

  • [SOLVED] Remove cairo-dock completely from the system

I would like to know how to remove cairo-dock completely from the system and then re-install it again.
It seems like it is not uninstalled completely. I have removed and then re-installed and when performing pacman -Ss cairo-dock cairo-dock-plugins it figures as it is not installed when in fact is.

  • Converting an MOV into an SWF

I was told that I need to use my Adobe software (Adobe Creative Suite CS6 Master Collection) to make this conversion.  I have a customer that wants me to convert an MOV file to a Motion SWF file with the following parameters (What settings do I use, and how do I play the video back on my AVID computer?):
IMPORTANT GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING YOUR MOTION FILE
    Motion Flash (SWF)
    • Your motion ad must contain an action-script STOP on the last visual frame at least 3 seconds in prior to the end of your allotted time duration. (As for example, a 10 second spot must have all motion STOP around the 7 second mark – the remaining 3 seconds will simply remain stationary on
the last visual frame of creative). Looping files (repeating) won’t be accepted. Please keep in mind that this STOP command ensures your ad to run smoothly and will eliminate an abrupt ending.
    • Recommended frame-rate: 15-20 fps.
    • In general, avoid long tweens, 3-5 frame tweens are optimal. This also includes alpha fades and color shifts.
    • No multi-level files or nested movie clips. Animation must be contained in (1) SWF file.
    • Audio is not supported. Remove all audio tracks from the file.
    • Be sure to resize and color correct images PRIOR to importing into Flash.
    • Provide a "landing pad" (a single visual that doesn’t move at the end of the animation) designed to be at least 20% of the total length of your animation. The landing pad will enhance visual impact and provide headroom for an animation that might play too slowly.
    • When exporting the .SWF, set JPEG quality to 50-60%, do not password the file.
    • Avoid large amounts of text, or text under 10 pt. Screen images should be easily readable at a distance of 3 feet.
    • Be aware that using programs like After Effects and Fireworks and then exporting the finished animation to .swf will generally result in poor performance since the export converts vector objects to bitmaps. Crisp edges and smooth playback are compromised.
    • Review/ Test the final .SWF for color, quality and to ensure that all requirements have been met prior to submitting.

Basically you'll need to provide your own getParameter
    method. It's easy with a java.util.HashTable -- the
parameter name as the key.that means that i would have to go back and change the old code, correct?

  • How to Image Map w/pop-ups?

    Hello,
What would it take to use a map like the one below to enable
a visitor to a page to move his or her cursor over one of the
numbered white circles and have a small photo representative of a
building pop-up? I have a client realtor who wants a page like this
as part of a web site. I’ve never done anything like this and
I am only using Studio MX 04 with Flash MX 04
    “Professional.”
And if I can do something like this is it masterfully
difficult or something that can be done very simply? What should I
charge for just this part of a job like this?
    http://www.cbdcdesign.com/sample/overviewmap.jpg
Thanks for answering this. I know I’m asking a lot of
    questions…..
    David

That would be really easy in flash, you could do the little
white spots as button symbols and just you the "over" state for
your pop-ups. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to achieve
    a similar effect in fireworks.
You shouldn't charge anything, it should be your good deed
    for the day!
