Effect of x-ray at airport on Fifth Generation i-pod

I am about to make a trip and was wondering if the x-ray at the airport will have any effect on my i-pod. It is so much like a computer that I am concerned with sending it through the x-ray machine. Anyone know if this would erase the memory or effect it any other way? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. I'll be heading to Thailand tomorrow and will enjoy listening to my ipod while in flight (17 hours). Thanks again for giving me peace of mind.

  • What is considered a fifth generation I-Pod?

What models are considered fifth generation?

The main difference a Fifth Generation iPod has from the other iPod models is that it is the only one that has the ability to play videos.
Also, it is the most recent iPod in the "Main Generation iPods" as you might call them.
There are actually two sort of sub-Fifth Generation models.
The first one came out on October 12, 2005.
Then, recently, one came out in September 12, 2006.
There are a few differences, like longer battery life, now an 80GB model replaced the 60GB, etc.
This more recent iPod is called the "(Late 2006) Fifth Generation iPod".
Here is a picture of it (the latest one):
But generally speaking, these two versions of the Fifth Gen can be considered as the same type of group together.

  • Can't restore Fifth Generation I-Pod

I first had a 20 GB I-pod, and I recently downloaded the latest version of I-tunes. So when I got the I-pod video, I thought I didn't need to install the lates software- I already had it. So I just plugged in the new video I-pod to the computer and waited for it to download all of my songs, and I would be on my way.
    ...It didn't happen.
Now it says my I-Pod Is corrupted, and so it says I need to restore it. When I click the button to restore it, a window pops up telling me that it's connecting to the update server, and then it tells me it can't restore because "the requested resource was not found." Oops. So I insert the CD that came with it to download the software that might have been required, but as far as i can tell, nothing changed. It doesn't help. So am I going to have to send it away? Should I not have plugged it into the computer without inserting the CD? Is there anything I can do to save it? Thank you.

    Try this.

  • How can I force my Second Generation Airport Extreme to use 2.4GHz when extending the network of my Fifth Generation Airport Extreme?

    Hi,
Would be great if anyone can help.  I have setup my Second Generation Airport Extreme to extend the network of the Fifth Generation Airport Extreme.  The 2nd generation Airport extreme seems to automatically get set to use 5GHz vs 2.4GHz.  I would like to force it to use 2.4GHz so my older devices can connect to it.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike.

Enable the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz network on your 5th Gen AirPort Extreme.
Then, the 2nd Gen Extreme will only "see" the 2.4 GHz network, and extend that signal.
If you are not sure how to do this, post back to tell us what operating system you are using on your computer so we will know what version of AirPort Utility you are using....so we can provide the correct steps for the setup.

  • Fifth Generation Airpot Extreme MD031LL/A can't connect more than one device

I just came back from the Apple Store @ Cambridge, MA where I got a second fifth generation Airport Extreme Base Station (MD031LL/A) which is recognized by all the devices I have (Mac Pro, 2 iPhones and 1 Power Book) but I can only connect to the Internet via the Mac Pro. This is the second unit I try in a week and is just behaving the same way the previous one was and for which an Apple specialist at Apple Care told me "it shouldn't be behaving that way".
2 Airport Extreme Base Stations malfunctioning in a row makes me wonder what other options are left for me...

And here is the message I get after failing to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Notice how the bands went from 3 to 2 lines on the Airport Wi-Fi indicator next to the Airplane mode...

  • Problems when trying to expand network with airport express 1st generation

Hi, I have an airport express 1st generation that never actually worked, so I lent it to a friend. Now I try to install it, in Order to expand my already existing network. Whilst airport express is trying to connect to the existing network, the airport utility programme tells me that suddenly there is no response by the airport express. When I then try to restart it, there is no sign of connection at all. I tried to download an updated version of the firmware but thats not possible since I can't get a connection to the network. Any suggestions??!
    Many thanks in advance, Dominic

A first generation AirPort Express cannot be used to "wirelessly extend" a network without resorting to configuring a WDS, a horribly inefficient compromise. Furthermore, you will need an older version of AirPort Utility to administer it from a current production MacBook Pro.
Read this post for instructions: How to Configure an old AirPort Express
You can use it as an additional access point in a "Roaming network". To do that requires that you connect it to your primary router with an Ethernet cable. That would be its most effective use. This KB article provides instructions: Wi-Fi base stations: Setting up and configuring a roaming network (802.11 a/b/g/n)

Yes, it is one of the things AirPort Express was specifically designed for.

  • Airport express 1st generation on mountain lion

I have a mac os 10.8 (mountain lion): can i use an airport express 1st generation? The mac doesn't recognize it and tells me to download airport utility 5.6, but 5.6 doesn't seem to exist for 10.8, only 10.7.

Just upgraded to ML and now I can't supervise the Extreme base stations (A1088). Argh.
This should have been mentioned somewhere (during the upgrade or something). Because my devices are 1st generation devices, albeit G-mode ones. This distinction should be made clear in the documentation and/or knowledge base articles.
Also the new airport utility (6.1) suggests I install 5.6, which, even tho, available on the website it doesn't seem to be installable in ML. By the way the KB mentions that it supports Lion (10.7.2) or later.. yeah right!
Now I'm stuck with no solutions available. Any other idea before I hack together a VM just for airport utility 5.6?

  • Fifth Generation iPod won't update music

My new fifth generation 30gb iPod refuses to be updated. It worked fine until I transfered a few photos onto it and now unless I have the "synchronise photos from" check box checked, I no longer have the option to update. When I have the box checked it only updates for photos. I have restored it once so far with the same problem returning as soon as I transfer photos. Any clues on how to sort this would be appreciated.

My 30GB ipod wont update music videos. I bought a
couple of music videos from the itunes store and
after they downloaded I connected my ipod to my emac
and a error message popped up and said that the
videos werent the right format. What is the right
format and how do I go about changing it??? What do I
    do?
Does the message say that the files cannot be updated to the iPod because they cannot be played on the iPod?
Go into the "music" tab on the iPod settings, make sure the option that says "include music videos" is checked (if you had to check it, click "apply")
You could try selecting the file in iTunes, and then clicking File > Get Info. See if all the Summary tab information is missing. If it is, something might have happened during the download. You might want to go into your purchase history and report a problem with it. In most cases, iTunes will let you redownload the file.
The problem is, everything downloaded from the iTunes Store is a protected file, so I don't think anything is going to let you convert it. Protected files usually can't be converted...

  • Why doesn't my fifth generation ipod nano work with my Toyota Yaris?

Hello – The charging feature on my new fifth generation ipod nano doesn’t work with the factory glove compartment adapter that came with my 2008 Toyota Yaris. It plays music, etc but does not charge the ipod when connected.
My third generation nano charged perfectly with my yaris until it was run over and crushed recently. My nano gen 5 replacement doesn’t work the same with my Yaris. Can anyone help?
    Steve

I cannot say for sure, I don't know anything about the toyota yaris. However, if that system was built to work with older firewire based iPods, then it will not charge new USB based units. There are converters out there you can get do deal with this.

  • HT1998 I have what I believe, though I am not certain, an Airport Extreme 1st generation. My internet speeds on my hardwired pc are running in half and a bit higher on my Mac Pro. Cable claims it is a problem with the router since I can bring the PC speed

Bear with me please as I have never used the community before. I have an Airport Extreme 1st generation at least I think it is a 1st generation. My PC is hardwired and my Mac Pro, obviously wireless. I have 50/8 mbps service but the speeds on my PC run around 20/8 and 30/8 on the Mac. Cable says it is a problem with the airport since my PC speeds rise to 50 when the airport is disconnected. Does anyone know what to do?

The simplest way would be to perform a "soft" reset on the AEBS. This type of reset will temporarily disable all of the AEBS's passwords up to five minutes. This should give you ample time to access the AEBS with the AirPort Utility to change it.
If you don't want to actually change the password, then you can possibly retrieve the password from the OS X Keychain, as follows:
Run the Keychain Access utility found in \Applications\Utilities
In the category column (on the left side of the utilities' window), select "All Items."
In the right column look for your Network Name. It will have a "Kind" of "AirPort network password."
Double-click on your network name listing.
    Click on "Show password."
    Enter your Mac's administrator's password
Your wireless network's password should now be displayed.

  • Unable to connect mac OS 10.4 with airport extreme 4th generation

I am setting up an old PowerBook G4 for my nephew. Running Mac OS 10.4.11. I am unable to get the PowerBook G4 to speak to my Airport Extreme 4th generation. Is this an incompatibility issue that cannot be fixed?

I guess it's time to go down to Starbucks and buy an overprised Latte
If the coffee place is running an "open" network that does not use wireless security, the G4 should connnect.
If the coffee place uses WEP 40 or WEP 128 encryption, then the G4 will likely connect as well.
My guess at this point would be that the AirPort Extreme is using WPA2 Security and the G4 operating system...or the wireless card in the G4.....will not support this level of security.
So, although the G4 might be able to handle OS X 10.5.7 or higher, the wireless card may still limit what you can do.
Things might be a whole lot easier....and a lot less expensive than a new wireless card.....if you try a USB wireless adapter on the G4.....assuming that the G4 supports a USB connnection.

  • Ipod Fifth Generation Late 2006

    Dear Apple Forum,
I have a Ipod Fifth Generation Late 2006. Recently I experience an anomalyof this Ipod. I could not remember the latest version of the software in this Ipod. When I plugged into my lappy (OS is Win 7), my lappy could not read the Ipod as an external drive. When I double clicked on the Ipod icon, Win 7 prompts me to format my drive. After consulting my IT personnel of my company, we decide to re-format my Ipod. The settings for formating are as follows:
Storage: 80GB but Win 7 detected 72GB...where did the remaining 8GB go?
File System: exFat (Default) -> there was NTFS available but my IT staff says its ok.
Allocation unit size: 128kilobytes -> there were other values available, from 16kB to 32kB but we chose 128kB. What the ****??!!
After formating, it works find on my laptop with Win 7. But when i got home and connect to my iTunes, iTunes prompts me to restore software. After which it was not able to restore due to limited memory (my guess is the 128kilobyte).
    iTunes version is 10.3.
Now my Ipod cannot start up and it hangs at the initial boot up with the apple logo and a "clicking" sound (sounds like the sound of the harddisk mechanism) over and over and over again.
Now both WIn 7 and my iMac (Leopard) are not able to detect my Ipod. I have attempted the 5 Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore but to no avail.
Could someone advise me what I can do to restore my Ipod? Thank you!

it's possible to sync from a selected folder of
photos rather than from iPhoto. there's some
information on how to do that in the following
    document:
iTunes and iPod: Frequently asked questions
    (FAQ) about Photo Sync
Thanks for your reply. I still cannot get to the prompt to sync my photos. I really do believe that I'll have to upgrade from iPhoto 2.0 since the prompt appears "copying photos from iPhoto requires iPhoto 4.03 or later" - all other prompts are greyed out and therefore not selectable. Initially I tried copying photos from my desktop to iPod by dragging a folder of 50 photos ... that is appearing as an iPod cache and shows one folder of Photos and another of thumbnails, but neither of these can be viewed on iPod or computer .... any suggestions as to upgrading my iPhoto to 4.03 at least so I can try to sync photos? I did start out with iTunes 4.7 when I first got my computer in 2004 and have been notified of iTunes updates automatically and iTunes is now at 7.2. Does Apple not support iPhoto in much the same way?

  • My ipod touch fifth generation wont turn on after the battery died and my home button is broken

i fell asleep with my ipod touch fifth generation on and when i woke up the battery had died but i tried turning it on and connecting it to the computer but nothings working

    Hi stephkayy223,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPod touch battery has been completely consumed, you may need to connect it to power for several minutes before you will see the charging screen:
If you see this screen, it means your battery is really low. Plug in your device and let it charge for at least 10 minutes before using it. After that, you can use your device while it continues to charge.
If your device has turned off, you might see a black screen for a few minutes even after you plug it in. Let it charge until it turns on, or until it's fully charged.

Charge your iPhone and iPod touch
If your iPod touch still does not seem to be charging, the steps in this article can help troubleshoot the device:
If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
