Effect preview

If I check the preview check box in illustrator why does it reset to non-preview EVERY SINGLE TIME?! It's another one of those things that just serves to annoy me every time I try to work with this nightmarish software.

If your Presets are gone, you have not deleted the Aperture Preferences, but your Presets from ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/  folder in your uer library or your system library.  If you still have the folders "Application Support/Aperture" put them back where you removed them from.  If they are in the Trash, you can ctrl-click them and use "Put Back".
What version of Aperture is it, that is currently running?  That you are using for the screenshots?
Look at the "About" panel -          Aperture menu > About Aperture
If you are using Aperture 3.5.1, you should be able to reinstall it from the AppStore. Move Aperture to the Trash (don't empty the Trash), then sign into the AppSTore with your AppleID and go to the "Purchased" tab. Click "Install".

  • Are you experiencing the EFFECTS PREVIEW "LOCKUP" PROBLEM? Please Read!

    Hello Everyone,
    After continued investigation by several members of our engineering team for the past few months we have found that the Effects Preview lock-up is caused by an altered version of the Audition executable file. If you have replaced the original Audition.exe which was installed by the Audition installer (including the trial version) you will experience this side-effect. We have verified that this bug does not exist with the released version of Audition and will only occur in cases where the user has replaced the Audition.exe with this altered version.
    To resolve this issue we suggest that you delete this altered Audition.exe file and replace it with the original. If this is unsuccessful we advise you to uninstall Audition and re-install with an Adobe issued serial number.
    If you continue to have problems please send an email to [email protected] with an explanation of the problem, your serial number, and a copy of your Audition system information report which can be found by going to Help > About and clicking the System Info. button.

    I posted this in another topic, so I thought would paste it here as well.
    Okay I feel I must share this with you folks even though the whole thing was an error on my part, so anyway we have by now all heard of the AA3 vst freeze problem, well last night I wiped my HD clean and did a whole new install, because I am using an AA3 upgrade from AA 1.5 I have to install both apps, so I did this last night and reinstalled both apps, and again I got the VST freeze, but the bug wasn't in AA3 something happened with 1.5, so I reinstalled 1.5 and then ran the repair wizard on 3 and I cannot get the VST freeze no matter how hard I try, when ever I went through the motions of reinstalling 3 on various comps, I never bothered to uninstall and reinstall 1.5, I realize this is more of a major user error (namely me)
    but it works now! I think that perhaps for those of us using upgrades from 1.5 something down the road broke and it effected AA3 maybe a windows update or something, but man it feels good to have it up and running, Long live AA, anyway I would be curious as to how many people this is happening to are using upgrades as well. Anyway if you want more info on what I did, just ask.
    Hope this helps
    Peace
    and to those I may have given attitude to, well the weight is lifted and I can now apologize
    UPDATE, not only did this clear up my VST freeze, but also a list of other minor issues, such as disappearing presets, Sound Lag when sweeping an EQ, Compressor pops, extra long load times, clicks when recording, multi track editing issues, my total re-install solved a long list of things,
    hope this helps

  • After Effects preview help

    I'm struggling to understand how my AE play and preview performance is so bad. I've seen the generic posts on AE performance but I'm wondering if I'm doing something pathologically wrong here given the severity of the problem.
    I'm new to AE on the Mac, I used it some on the PC. I have a new iMac 5k 4GHz w/ 32GB RAM. I'm running After Effects CC 2014. I've loaded in a 21 second 1920x1080 @60Hz clip. I've not touched anything beyond loading in the clip, not created any content at all, yet it plays back with RAM preview at 10Hz.
    I set the image preview size to custom 25x25 pixels, so the image I'm looking at is something you might see on an old Commodore 64:
    And it still only goes 30Hz.
    Is there some default setting that could be sinking my performance? Or is 1920x1080@60 just not going to play back?

    It should playback correctly but to say what could be issue with your playback please send us some more specs:
    - how many discs you have on your comp?
    - is any of your disc SSD or just Hdd
    - if you have only HDDs tell us if you have any other software that is reading/writing on that disc when you try to play that clip on AE
    In my opinion in your case the HDD will be that bottle neck that slow down everything.

  • Effects preview not working

    I am no longer able to preview effects in the search or browser window. I tried trashing preferences but this did not resolve the problem. Any ideas?
    I must say I am very disappointed in Apple for releasing this software when it was clearly not ready. Updates have been few and far between.
    I wish Apple would concentrate a bit more on its pro application and a little less on making telephones for rich teenagers.
    And while I am gripping, why is it often difficult to access these forums? One would think a computer company would have a website that actually functioned.
    Tony

    I couldn't agree with you more. This version of Soundtrack is so buggy I can't use it at all. I also have problems with previewing filters and it's very inconsistent some track preview them and some don't. My nightmare involves trying to save an aiff. Basically with any filter applied I get a horrible distortion and the files are unusable. I hope they fix this soon - I'm running totally out of patience.

  • After Effects Preview (CUDA)

    Hey,
    i got a Problem with After Effects CC with the (Live "Render") Preview.
    I activated on the Settings my GPU for Preview rendering, but that won't work.
    After Effects tells me that my GPU is using OpenGL 2.1.2, but that is not correct my GPU supports 4.3 (Lastest Drivers, GeForce 335.23 WHQL)
    GPU: ASUS DirectCUII OC GTX780
    CPU: i7 2600k @ 4.7Ghz
    RAM: 16GB
    before i used CS6 with 2x AMD HD 6970 were 1 GPU has been used for Preview rendering, but nVidia don't work.
    Can someone help me?

  • Photo Booth effects previews don't seem right....

    Tried using Photo Booth and when previewing effects they seem jumpy and sticky, for e.g.. the mirror effects are not smooth, they are jumpy, video backgrounds do not preview well at all and are fragmented with my silhouette in a mixed background...
    Is this normal, its difficult to explain in writing what I am seeing, so forgive my vagueness.

    I have the same problem with MBP 13" late2013. Would be nice to use pop art filter, but it is impossible 'cause of this.

  • After Effects Preview Resolutions and Pixel Bender

    Hi,
    Hopefully this is a simple fix. I've encountered an issue with PB filters and After Effects's variable preview resolution. Consider this simple kernel:
    <languageVersion : 1.0;>
    kernel gridTest
    <   namespace : "quarterlightpictures.com";
        vendor : "Quarterlight Pictures";
        version : 1;
    >
        input image4 src;
        output pixel4 dst;
        void evaluatePixel() {
            float2 coordFloored = floor(outCoord());
            dst.rgb = float3(0.0);
            if(mod(coordFloored.y, 50.0) < 1.0)
                dst.rgb = float3(1.0);
            dst.a = 1.0;
    All it does is draw some 1px thick horizontal lines 50 pixels apart. This is fine, of course. However if I set the preview resolution in After Effects to 1/2, the lines are no longer drawn - the comp goes completely black. What I'd expect is the output to be subsampled in AE, and the lines to become 2px thick, but half as bright, which is what happens if I add a Grid effect and do the same.
    At 1/3 and 1/4 resolution the lines do appear sporadically - but not everywhere theyr'e supposed to be - and are drawn 3 and 4 pixels thick accordingly.
    Does PB work pre-or-post down-res? In other words, does a PB filter run, send its output to AE's comp window and then gets down-ressed for preview (if the resolution isn't full), or does it down-res the dource and pass it to PB? If it's the former then it should just work as I expect. If it's the latter, then are my source dimensions becoming halved, or are my pixel sizes becoming 2x2?
    Hope that makes sense. This is causing an issue with a plugin I wrote using PB, with things disappearing when adaptive resolution kicks in.
    Thanks,
    Christian

    I've figured it out.
    If you test like so, it works!
         dst.rgb = float3(0.0);
         if(mod(coordFloored.y, 50.0) < pixelSize(src).y)
                dst.rgb = float3(1.0);
            dst.a = 1.0;

  • Lighting effects previews ok, but disappears

    Hi there,
    Huge apologies if this has been covered elsewhere or is a simple solution. I just need the answer asap. I am working in Photoshop CS6.
    I am putting a light effect over a layer and the lighting effect using the alpha channel.
    Everything is fine in the preview stage, however when I go back to the main part of my document the effect appears for a little while then disappears. I save it before it disappears as a JPEG and as a psd to input into indesign but when saved the lighting effect does not show up on either file.
    I don't think its crashing or anything. I appologise I'm not 100% sure what the specs of my Mac is, I only just got it. Its the i7 retina display released mid last year with 8GB RAM SSD. I hope the screen shots can help
    This is what it looks like without the effect and what it looks like after the effect disppears.
    This is what it looks like in preview, and what it should look like when saved.

    First screenshot shows the result when "Alpha 1" is targeted before activating the filter. "Alpha 1" is no longer targeted and Channels panel reveals that the filter has not affected the target layer. Only the display image has the result of the filter. When the display is later updated with the real content of the document, the filter effect will vanish.
    Second screenshot shows the result if "Alpha 1" is not targeted before activating the filter. Channels panel reveals that the target layer really has been affected by the filter.

  • FCP X 10.0.8 I can´t see the effect preview in the viewer...

    Hi:
    I update Final Cut Pro X today and now I can´t see the preview of the effect in the viewer when I use the skimmer in the effects thumbnails in the Effects tab.
    You konw... if you move the skimmer over the effect thumnail you can see the effect apply or if you hold "alt" key and move the cursor you can change the "amount" of effect to see.
    I check to reinstall the app, erase the renders...

    Thanks Russ.
    I am going your advice and install the Preference Manager (Great stuff from Digital Rebellion) and I deleted the "preferences plist".
    I go to open FCPX again and this issue whit the thumbnails in the viewer is remained.
    This is madness.
    I am going to check my other Mac and install the update to check if the problem is in FCP X or my Mac Pro.
    Thankas again Russ
    All effects show this issues. White frames, pink frames... I can´t see the preview in the viewer or the thumbnail.
    This computer is a Mac Pro 8 Core, 32G Ram, Nvidia GTX 285 GTX Mac Version...
    Two days ago I finish a work with 10.0.7 FCP X version and all is ok, I haven´t this issue.

  • IMovie Effects Preview & Sound

    Hi, i am trying to edit a home movie of a friend singing. I want to add a video effect at a certain point in the song and fade out etc. When i select the clip and crop to the approx position, i try and preview the effect. I can see the effect on the monitor but cannot hear any sound. As i am trying to edit the movie with the sound, this is quite difficult. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Joe.

    You might want to try using something like a Fade Out or Fade In instead of one of the transitions that add or subtract to the length of the video
    [Quoted from iMovie Help]
    Some transitions (for example, Cross Dissolve and Push) shorten your movie by a few seconds, depending on the speed of the transition. For example, if you add a transition with a speed of 2 seconds, iMovie overlaps 2 seconds from the first clip and 2 seconds from the second clip as it renders the transition. This shortens your movie by a total of 2 seconds.
    The Overlap transition freezes the last frame of the clip on its left and superimposes it over the next clip. Fade In/Fade Out blackens the last frames of the clip on the left and the first frames of the following clip.
    [End quote]
    I agree with Klaus. I think the best way is to extract the audio right after you import and before any transitions are added.

  • After effects preview is greyed out

    I saved my AE file correctly and closed the program. Now, when I reopen the file, I can see everything was saved yet the preview will not work. I can do everything else except preview it, I cannot even see the footage at all. What can I do, what is the issue? This has happened before but I did something and it worked again. I do not want to keep guessing what the solution is, please help. I have scrolled through the view tab, but I do not see anything that would allow me to see my preview screen...

    What is a "preview screen" in your vocabulary? A Comp Viewer? A layer Viewer? A source Viewer? From your description it sounds like you actualyl haven't created a comp and the project is simply opening without the comp viewer, which automatically will appear once you actualyl create one. and of course perhaps check your workspace and reset to the default one...

    I'm using a GTX 560 with the "hack" to allow for GPU acceleration in CS6, and it generally works fine.  But every time I try to "render effects in to out", I get an error message.  I tried rendering with GPU acceleration disabled, and it works fine.  So I'm guessing the GTX 560 is truly unsupported in this build of Premiere.  Anyone else with a GTX 560 able to confirm this behavior?

  • A Better Way to "Preview" Effects in FCP?

    Okay, in Motion (which I've recently started using), you can browse various effects (filters, behaviors, etc.) in the Library Pane and see a helpful little thumbnail movie, along with a verbal description, which gives you a good idea of what kind of "effect" that particular Effect is going to have.
    I'm told (though I've not used either app myself) that both iMovie '08 and Adobe's Premiere have a similar mini-preview function to help you choose the right filter and/or transition.
    So my question is (before submitting another Feature Request to the FCP team): what is the closest thing to this much appreciated function in the current version of Final Cut?
    I'm currently working on a project which demands a very wide variety of different (and sometimes even intentionally cheesy) filters and transitions. So I seem to spend a lot of time in my Browser's Effects tab searching for "something different", or wondering "what the heck does this one do?" -- and often having to actually drop the effect and/or transition into a Timeline (and then reading e-mails while it renders), just to get a sense of what it actually does.
    So...
    — Has anyone created some sort of "FCP Effects Previewer" that mimics the kind of function already built-in to Motion?
    — Is there a website somewhere with easy-to-search little examples of every Final Cut filter and transition?
    — Or has anyone even a created a pdf with clear verbal descriptions and accompanying screenshots of same (or even just simple diagrams to illustrate all the different wipe transitions)?
    So far my Googling on this topic hasn't been very successful, but I'd appreciate any tips on where to look.
    Thanks,
    John Bertram
    Toronto

    Hi again.
    FWIW, it was Motion which I've only recently started using. I've actually been working with FinalCut since version 4.5, though so far not for "paying clients" (in other words, just for my own indie film work, plus some pro bono projects for friends in theater and business presentations). So in that sense my work as a "professional" editor is mostly pre-NLE, cutting 16mm docs and TV episodes on Steenbecks a couple of lifetimes ago.
    But you've raised an interesting point, which I guess could be summarized as the ongoing tension between making a Pro App "stronger" (more versatile, more compatible, more stable) while also trying to make its interface “friendlier" (easier to learn, easier to customize, easier to navigate, etc.). And I can certainly understand how, for those who've slogged their way up several years of learning curves, the former category is always going to be top priority in terms of how Apple allocates its development resources.
    But whenever I venture into a previously unexplored quadrant of the Final Cut galaxy (and that can include even just an Effects Tab folder I've never opened before), I definitely experience that Newbie Chill all over again. So I've always hoped (perhaps naively) that FinalCut's development could pursue BOTH goals simultaneously -- overhaul the Media Manager; keep adding those new codecs -- while at the same time keep making the FCP interface a more inviting, more comfortable place in which to work.
    When I think about the many FCP Feedback Suggestions I've submitted over the years (also for Logic Express then Logic Studio), I can see how a lot of them -- not all, but quite a few -- would fall into that second, “user-friendliness” category. The irony is that many of the feature requests I've submitted for the Consumer apps -- ways to make iPhoto, say (or Address Book, or Pages, or whatever) more powerful -- would fall into the first category, the it-really-should-be-able-to-do-this-or-that, "beefing up the engine" one. And those suggestions, when discussed in their respective forums, have sometimes drawn the criticism of "Hey c'mon -- it's just a Consumer App".
    But every once in a while, a new version gets released, and some progress is made on both fronts. So I guess I’ll just keep tilting at both windmills for now.
    Cheers,
    jb

  • Ken Burns Effects Look Darker On Preview

    Not sure why, but effect previews on deinterlaced movie stills look darker and "better" than after the effect is applied and played back. Why?

    Do you notice this mostly on slow moving text? Photographs can get away with more, but lines or text will have more noticeable artifacts. What you're seeing is the ever changing anti-aliasing of the lines or words as they are drawn to match the few lines in a TV picture. You may have seen similar ripply effects on home made credits. There's almost a science to getting the speed just right to avoid the issue.
    If possible try a different movement speed. Ideally you want the image to be moving across the screen, or if it's up or down the screen then it would need to move at exactly a multiple of two scan lines per frame to avoid all artifacts. Thicker lines or larger text would reduce the effect too, because it's only at the edges of shapes that the effect would be really noticeable.
