Effects causing playback problems in Quicktime Player

My sequence is AIC 720 24p and plays fine in the timeline with affects applied. These are simple effects, like Fading and Cross Dissolve. When i export the timline without Quicktime Conversion but as a self-contained .mov file and try to play it back in the Quicktime Player, wherever an effect starts (from the timeline), the player freezes. The only way to get it playing again is to pause it, find where it skipped and go to just after the stopping point to play again. Is there some export setting I'm missing?
strangely, if I do an export from Quicktime to a new file (not just a "save as") the problem vanishes. the same can be said for exporting with Quicktime Conversion from the FC timeline. I'm trying to get this thing to a file without having to re-compress it several times. Can this be accomplished without exporting with Quicktime Conversion with an uncompressed codec to save the quality?
also: I'm running the newest version of FC Studio and the latest version of the Quicktime Player.
Thanks

Are you saving the file to a disk other than your startup disk? if not, that could be the problem. I think I'd render it all first, select file/export/QT movie... then use current settings and check on the "make self contained" option. This will result in a perfect copy of the original media files, and is as good as you can make. But it will take a pretty fast disk to play it.

This is some built-in "protection" that was engineered into Shockwave some years ago. It means that SW will ignore the first 10 script errors then throw the dialogue you are seeing. You really will have to contact the developer of the content in question to have it fixed - there's nothing anyone else can do. The developer needs to replicate your error, determine the cause, rectify it and republish their movie

  • Iphone 5 video playback problems over quicktime?

ive recently got a new laptop, pre windows 8, and downloaded quicktime pro in order to play my iphone videos right side up because windows media player will play them upside down alot of the time. something i immeadiately noticed was that all my videos from my iphone 5, when played back via quicktime, have a big judder/skip in them every 2 seconds whereis all my iphone 4 videos playback no problem. the few videos i have that are recorded right side up from my iphone 5, because of orientation of the phone during recording, play perfectly fine on windows media player so this this leads me to believe it is a quicktime issue. i have updated to the latest quicktime just a few days ago with hopes of it being corrected but no such luck. im curious if anyone else is having this same problem or knows a fix? also if anyone knows how to flip videos with quicktime so i can just watch them on windows media would be great also. i found a write up how to do it but everytime i try it, after i save it it just reverts back to its orgional orientation. thanks for any help, Jamie

Add me to the list of people having this problem.
I'm running Macbook on 10.5.8. Quicktime is 7.6.9, in case this has any bearing on things.
OK......I just searched a few places and came up with this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perian
It's called Perian, and it's one of a few different options you could use to solve this problem....I just installed it (free), and now the videos play without a hitch. It's a plug-in for Quicktime.  There are others that can supposedly do the same thing--look around and give it a shot.
(Also, supposedly this Perian is no longer in open development, and may not work with the newest Quicktime update for the newest Macs, but, like I said, there are other options out there that may work for you instead.)
I have a feeling my problem may have been due to my particular Quicktime/Macbook setup being a bit outdated, but who knows?
    Good luck!

  • H.264 playback stutter in QuickTime Player 7.5.5

I've read one or two posts about stuttering H.264 playback, with hints about the latest QT version being the problem - is that the case?
I've been encoding to H.264 for over a year, and love it, but have recently noticed this problem. I most often use 720p25 format (1280x720 progressive, 25fps), at 6Mbps, encoding from a progressive source (Photo-JPEG or HDV 720p) in Compressor. My latest programme has a fairly fast-moving tracking shot, which is on the limit of what is acceptable in progressive video. Even so, watching the H.264 encode in QT Player (vsn 7.5.5) it stutters really badly. On investigation I note that when nudging through the video, frame by frame, the picture only advances every other frame, going forwards. Somewhat bizarrely it advances every frame going backwards! When I play the same file in the VLC player it plays smoothly, as does an MPEG-2 encode from the same source file (Apple Intermediate Codec 720p25).
Does anyone have any clues as to what the problem might be?

I'm puzzled by your note about reinstalling the revised version of Perian 1.1.1. You literally just put the file 'Perian-morelogging.component.zip' into /Library/QuickTime/ as is? Why would you not unzip it first?
    {quote:title=Will : Hi ! wrote:}{quote}
When I install the newer Perian 1.1.1 provided there (manually, by placing the unzipped Perian.component in /Library/QuickTime/), the stuttering problems seems to go away.
Anyway, here's what I did in detail:
Re-install Perian 1.1.1 (stuttering came back).
Then, unzip the new Perian component, which gives me a new Perian.component file.
Finally, replace (overwrite) the existing Perian.component with the new one (in the Macintosh HD > Library > QuickTime folder).
I've done what you suggest, but I've no idea if it's doing anything at all, since QT Player plays an H.264 file without it anyway.

My instructions above are only useful if you absolutely need Perian. Personally, I decided to stop using it. Since I do a lot of transcoding, I prefer to leave QuickTime as clean as possible, and usually use VLC for playback instead.

  • External monitor causing playback problems?

Sorry if this has been covered before. I tried searching but it kind of comes down to what verbs people use to describe the problem.
I'm running FCP 5.1.4 on a Macbook Pro, and I just bought a Dell 2408 for an external monitor. A few times since I've hooked up the monitor, when I play in the timeline, the video skips and stutters and keeps looping back to the same section. If I switch to a different sequence, it plays fine. This only seems to happen when I have the cinema preview on. If I kill it, click on the canvas window and hit play, it usually plays fine.
So I've got some workarounds on this, but it's an annoying quirk. Has anyone else had this problem? It seems to be tied to the external monitor, but I don't know if I'm missing a step or something isn't setup quite right.
Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated.

Go to your Audio / Video Settings >> A/V Devices tab and turn of "Mirror on desktop" for Playback ... this will reduce the load on your system as it will not be trying to decode the video for two separate (and different) playback streams simultaneously ie when using Digital Cinema Desktop Preview to display All Frames then you will not see playback in the Canvas window as well, just on the external preview monitor.
And/Or you could also try setting FCP's System Preferences >> Playback Control >> Gamma Correction to "Approximate" ... according to the manual this can offer a little performance boost (but to be honest I haven't ever tested this).
Choosing Real-Time Playback Gamma Correction Options
Whenever you watch your video on a computer display (such as video displayed in the Canvas, the Viewer, or via Digital Cinema Desktop Preview), Final Cut Pro applies gamma correction to the video to more closely approximate the way it would appear on a video monitor.
Note: Gamma correction is not applied to external video outputs such as DV or third-party interfaces because this correction is inherently applied by external video monitors.
If your computer’s graphics card supports gamma correction, Final Cut Pro automatically uses the card for accurate gamma correction. If your computer has an older graphics card that does not support gamma correction, you have two gamma correction options in the Playback Control tab of the System Settings window.
Accurate: High-quality gamma correction. This option is the most accurate but also requires the most processing power.
Approximate: Lower-quality gamma correction. This option leaves more processing power available for real-time effects but results in less accurate color and brightness rendition.
Tip: If your real-time performance is limited, try changing the gamma correction setting to Approximate (if available).
    Hope it helps

No, the first frame is not black.. The screenshots where just examples and I tried to adjust the settings, because the first time I tried the timewarp it worked, but the next clip I wanted to warp just got black.. and I tried alot of times to figur out if I adjusted some of the settings..  ( I hope you mean the method and adjust time).
Those comes adjusted in pixel motion and Speed and thats what I have them on now.. Should I adjust it to something else?

  • It seems the OSFM player streaming causes init problems for Flash Player in Linux

I've been running a number of tests with the MediaPlayerSprite. When the video is to be streamed via RTMP FlashPlayer10 Linux debugger hangs for quite a while before drawing anything to the stage. The problem lies in the OSFMplayer/FlashPlayer because if you do not add the player to the stage via addChild you can hear the video almost instantaneously. However once you addChild the Flash Player goes dead for about 15 secs at least before the stage items appear.
In addition if you set the MPS autoplay to false all your onstage assets appear, however once you click a the play button things freeze up before they stream. The workaround here is to wait about 15 secs before clicking the play button then streaming is instant ( on most occasions ). With non streamed media assets appear once the compile is done.
    Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit / FlashBuilder

This sounds like a Flash Player (Linux) bug, as the addChild call wouldn't go through any OSMF code.
I did a quick search in the Flash Player bug database, and the only issue that looks similar is this one:
    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-2914
Recommend you file a bug with the Flash Player team.

  • Quicktime Player unresponsive while screen recording. Help!

Hello. I often upload youtube videos with QuickTime Player and Final Cut Pro X. 2 days ago, I noticed a problem with quicktime player. Whenever I try to screen record, about 2 mins and 30 secs of recording, QuickTime Player becomes unresponsive. I am running on the new version of OSX Mavericks on a MacBook Pro. Thanks for concerning your time to help me fix this problem.

Thanks for the tip on the stop record function icon on the top menu bar.  Its disappointing that the new program with Mavericks doesn't keep the the player control box open when you are recording.  This may have been in response to some people complaining that the box can get in the way of the recording, although elsewhere it is said that even though it looks like it gets in the way it actually won't show up in the recording.
Regardless of your preference, I think some of us would ideally like to be able to see the window at times so that we can verify that the sound levels are coming through (its a royal pain to record an hour and find out later that no sound was recorded) and to potentially pause recording to remove sections where material is occuring that is of no interest (ie they took a break or need to look for something).  The stop button literally stops the recording and no longer gives you the option to RESUME.
The only thing that I found that does work although it is VERY CLUMSY is that if you attempt to quit   Quicktime the window with all the controls will show up.  If you hit cancel that window will stay there and allow you to do what you want.  Now I suspect all the messages that say DO YOU WANT TO END RECORDING are likely to show up in your recording, but I guess you can trim that out.  What would make a lot of sense is for them to have the option to view the control box in the  View pull down menu.
Oh well.  Any one else found any other ways to manage the quicktime screen recordings without being able to access the control window?

  • ITunes & QuickTime Player Issues

For the past few days I have been unable to load iTunes. I have tried to reinstall both iTunes, but have encountered many problems. I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes with QuickTime Players from the iTunes website, and followed the installation procedures but when I click on the desktop icon I get the following error messages…
QuickTime failed to initialise Error # - 2095

I have tried to uninstall both iTunes and QuickTime using various methods including:
    Control Panel>Add or remove programs

But am convinced neither of these methods has been successful as every time I attempt to uninstall and re-install from scratch I am unable to run iTunes and encounter problems with QuickTime Player.
Has anyone else encountered similar problems, and could anyone assist me in where I am going wrong and how I can get iTunes up and running again.

  • Crop effect causes error compiling movie

when we render a timeline, every time it gets to a title that has a crop effect on it - it causes the rendering in the media encoder to stop because "error compiling movie". Definately it is because of the crop effect - since when removed - everything is OK. There is enough memory, disk space... Does anyone have a solution or an idea?
    Thank you.

    Dear Bill,
So we figured it out how to solve it.
The problem was that this problem occurred when implementing it on track num. 30. From track 30 and higher, the crop effect causes this problem. when we took the same titles, in the same sequence and lowered it to, say, track (video track) 25 - everything rendered OK.
Have you ever encoutered such a phenomena?

  • How do I get back quicktime player?

I was having a problem with Quicktime player so I thought I would uninstall the program and then reinstall.
I come from the world of windows so that is why.
I dragged the quicktime player icon from the applications folder to the trash and emptied the trash.
I went to download the player application from apple's website only to learn this thing is supposed to be built into the OS.
So now the question is how to restore this thing?
I am on a 2011 MBP with Snow Leopard.

Use Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X 10.6 DVD and then run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 combo updater.

I have seen this problem appearing on Windows 2000, XP SP2 and XP SP3 with all QuickTime 7 versions (can't tell about iTunes since I don't use it), it didn't bother me because I have no use for QT/MOV myself.
    but.
I have just installed your latest QT Player 7.60.92 and it craps out with the same error whenever I want to open .mov files.
And I have downloaded few trailers ranging from small resolution up to highest "HD" resolution from your own Apple website to make sure it is not some encoding compatibility issue.
I know it is a bug in QT Player itself, so don't tell me please that "my QT got fragmented" or such BS (like the replies suggested in the other thread) or ask about any QT alternative corrupting "official" QT Player since I have no such thing. I am trying to make it work on my mother's computer with freshly installed WinXP (prior updated up to latest patches), machine has standard 32bit intel single core CPU (2.8GHz, 2GB of RDRAM).

Yes, same as in the other thread from year ago, the QT/.mov files play fine in the browsers (I have just check on IE7, Firefox, K-Meleon).
    Message was edited by: -888-

Look, I had it running _few times_ too until it crapped out and gives the error since (on my own other computers - which I don't care since I have no use for any QT/.mov myself, but I repeat from post 1: I need it working on my Mother's comp).
And talking about 'bad drivers' - yes, I know that the drivers are sometimes at fault and bad drivers can make entire windoze pc unstable or crash; but how can you suggest this as a cause in this case when I'm telling you that the same error appears on completely different machines? And wouldn't this error appear from begining, from very first use of QT Player if it were bad drivers? Sure it would if it was faulty driver, but since it didn't that's not the case obviously.
Another pointer that it is NOT drivers related problem is that all other audio-video programs work fine, without errors and problem-free on the same machines, including playback of some of the .mov files with Media Player Classic or VLC - while they crap out with QT Player. If it was any of the drivers for audio or video, directx acceleration, etc - the faulty driver(s) should and would affect other programs as well. Yet all of them work fine and as I said - some even play QT files too (the ones capable of).
    /edit:
Just to test it I "caved in" and I have installed entire iTunes 8.0 garbage (as suggested by foobula earlier) since I couldn't get just QTPlayer part of it to install separately, and what do you know:
LO & BEHOLD! same .mov files play fine with QT7, no errors, no problem! (I have opened/closed same .mov files many times).
Then I uninstalled iTunes and all of its junk,
removed any traces of it (because it left out - in a Microsft style - plenty of garbage in registry, user appdata folder etc),
    rebooted,
installed the "standalone" QT Player 7.60
and hello Apple my darling! - same error is back after just 2 playbacks of very same .mov files!
(I used Apple's own .mov trailers for testing just to make sure I have "right" quicktime files:
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_1080p.mov
    and
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_480p.mov
    - and I repeat: both played once each fine (haven't play till the end though, but I'm sure that doesn't matter since the problem appears from the start)
What better proof you need that the problem is only with QT Player in a "standalone edition" (or whatever Apple calls it) and not with any drivers etc?
As previously, both play fine when links opened in a browsers (so the QuickTime whatever-components responsible for audio and video rendering WORK FINE and its not any "bad drivers" problems, it is just QT Player application's problem)
Again: (I hate to repeat myself)
*I don't want any itunes or other junk,*
*I just want .mov files to open with quicktime player - no more or less.*

  • STILL no real answer to problems with QuickTime and Flash Player

The reply to Problems with QuickTime really didn't answer or solve the basic problem. Some sites to work at all require you to have working Flash Player 8 so when I try to use these sites I get the QuickTime logo with a question mark and then nothing. For all you experts on Apple and Mac; what is going on? Apple is the parent of QuickTime and I assume they want their customers happy with their work. So why is it so hard for these apparently small updates to their programs causing entire sites being blocked off? I have OS x 10.3.9 on a G4 iMac 855mHrz .... It seems that even though we, the customer by default become Apples program testers;the actual programers are never given the go ahead to actualy look at these problem posts. Has anyone ever gotten a solution for a problem they posted here from one of the programmers of the product? It would be nice to know we aren't left to our own devices when it comes to program gliches from the source. If the powers that be in apple are watching and willing to help; any time now is a good time to just but in on the conversation and help solve some of the problems us little people keep on running into.--------------
While online I run into sites that will NOT work without Flash Player 8 (which costs over $150.00) which is told to the viewer with a QuickTime logo with a question mark in it.
This leads the web surfer to try to upgrade or at least investigate Flash Player in their computer and it's version. When said web surfer looks at Flash player upgrade for bucks and the fact that in some way it is tied to QuickTime, web surfer gets real curious. Do the web masters for those sites know that their site is now blocked off? If any major portion ( say 30 or 40 % ) of the web surfing crowd is required to purchase an upgrade to Flash Player even though it doesn't look like Apple is the parent of said Flash Player; those web masters are going to be upset with Apple. Their income is tied to actuall access and browsing of a site, even if it is only to actually just get the Home page. With no access to the site due to no Flash Player 8, the web master is going to find those all important Hits going down to nil. -------
This post is way to broad for any one answer so I don't really expect one. But for you people who have run into similar problems with other programs and sites; I would love to hear if you got any help from other web surfers or from the parent people of those programs and/or sites. I know that my isp earthlink has helped out with problems faster than other groups involved. Anyway.. Any help or comment on this post ( or gripe if you prefer ) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, but you are completely misinformed. Flash Player 8 doesn't cost one red cent; it's only the Flash creation package that you have to pay for. You can download the free Flash Player 8 here.
QuickTime can natively handle some Flash content, which is why with the lack of the Flash player the browser defaults to the QT plugin. But Flash 8 is a relatively new format from Macromedia and I'm not sure QT supports it yet. Install the Flash 8 player and things should work just fine.
And just FYI, for questions about the Mac version of QuickTime, you'll be better off asking them in the QuickTime for Mac forum.
