Effects don't work

I've never had this problem before, but now for some reason, I can't add effects. After I click "Apply", the thumbnail turns white and the clip becomes the next clip. I have iMovie HD 6.0.3 on a MacBook. Please help! I need my effects!

The first thing I'd try is simply to close imovie and re-open. Then try the effect again.
Also, I'd try trashing the Font Collections Folder.
These files are found:
/YourUserName/Library/FontCollections folder.
Drag the folder to the trash and launch iMovie. iMovie will create a new FontCollections folder containing the files it needs when it next opens.

Hello,
I'm working on a 3D logo for a company, and I'm trying to snaz what I have done with some effects, but the effects don't work. For example, I tried adding the CC Light Wipe Effect, but it will only show up when I switch back to the classic 3D renderer. Google searches aren't exaclty effective when I my serach quiere has "Effects" and After Effects" in it, so I'm forced to come here looking for the answer.
Are effects supported in this new renderer? If so, how do I get them to work?

Pre-composing and then switching off Ray-traced rendering in the main comp gives you the ability to apply effects to the pre-comp. This may or may not work for your situation.
Another option is to pre-render your Ray-traced work and then apply effects to the footage. There's almost always something you can do if you think about it for a while.
Still another option is to put a 2D adjustment layer above your 3D Ray-traced layer and apply the effect there.

P755 and Realtek HD Audio Manager sound effects don't work

Hi. I have a P755 and the Realtek HD Audio Manager sound effects don't work. Everything seems to be up to date, but the equalizer and environment features have never worked. I am using the Analog stereo out. The Speaker Configuration is Stereo. The only thing that seems to change the audio characteristics is switching from Headphone to Line Out.

Ken Burns Effects Don't Work in iMovie HD (I've Tried Everything)

OS X 10.4.10
iMovie 6
*Hardware 1:*
PowerMac G4 Dual 500 Mhz, 1GB RAM, Internal 40GB HDD and Internal 320 GB HDD
*Hardware 2:*
PowerBook G4 500 Mhz, 512MB RAM, Internal 20 GB HDD
Problem:
This problem occurs on both of my G4 Macs. In iMovie HD, I imported a JPEG from iPhoto with Ken Burns Effects on. The still photo appeared properly in the Clip Viewer initially, but appeared as a black screen in the iMovie Monitor. Once the imported photo with the Ken Burns Effects completed rendering, the clip in the Clip Viewer turned white and appeared as a white screen in the iMovie Monitor. I have tried almost everything I read about in these forums in search of a resolution.
*Resolutions that Failed:*
1. The photo is definitely a .jpg
2. Tried importing the actual .jpg file as well as importing from iPhoto.
3. QuickTime and all other Software updates have been applied and are running on the most current release.
4. Repaired disk permissions.
5. Created, saved and manipulated the iMovie file in the standard Movie Folder on my main internal hard drive. (i.e. – I'm not saving to an external HDD)
6. Created, saved and manipulated the iMovie file in the standard Movie Folder on my secondary internal hard drive. (i.e. – I'm not saving to an external HDD)
7. Deleted the 'mac.imovie.plist' file and created a new one.
8. Attempted to do apply the effects logged on as a different user.
9. Saved file, restarted machine and reopened numerous times but the problem persists.
10. Tried a lower resolution photo and the problem persists.
11. Attempted to import all the photos I planned to use, added transitions to all of the clips and rendered completely. Saved the file, restarted the machine and reopened the file with no change to the blank clips.
12. The iMovie trash emptying issue did nothing to help.
*Additional Notes:*
1. The problem is confined to the Ken Burns Effects in iMovie. I am able to work with true video clips without incident.
2. Ken Burns Effects operate properly in iPhoto 6 using the slideshow functionality.
3. I would use iPhoto, but it seems like it would be easier to line up specific sections of an audio track with certain Ken Burns Effects in iMovie. (i.e. – a crescendo at the 16 second mark of the audio track coincides with the end of a 'zoom' on a photo, transition from second 16-17 second mark, new photo at the 17 second mark and pan left to right from 17 second mark to the 25 second mark.) Point is that it lines up precisely with the markers on the audio track, which seems far easier to do in iMovie than iPhoto.
4. Please help me, I'm going nuts troubleshooting this bug! I can't find any resolution that works.

2. Are the sizes of your images too large, as can happen with some of these new high def cameras? iMovie has trouble working with very large images.
3. Do you have any 3rd pary plug-ins, particularly in Quick Time, that could be causing a conflict?
4. Do you have enough disk space for the project to operate?
5. Have you done a recent Quick Time update? Some users have reported a problem with that.
6. From your post, it appears that you have continuously worked within the same iMovie file that exhibits the Ken Burns problem. If this is true, try creating a new iMovie project and experimenting with a few clips to see if the problem persists in the new project.
Ken Burns issues can be very frustrating. I think that you will need to keep trying things until something works. Wish I could be more help, but perhaps some of the tech experts on this forum will have some workable suggestions.
There is an application called Photo to Movie that reputedly has a far better Ken Burns type of effect. If you can't resolve your problem, you might try downloading that app. I believe that it offers a demo download.

Creative EAX Console audio effects don't work like before

My audio effects on my eax console used to make a bigger difference. ?I used to use Concert Hall and the reverb effect was much greater just until recently when I downloaded some upgrades creative said i needed. ?I have tried to edit the audio effect individually except there is no edit button like the "help" menus suggests me to use. ?wtf

Spry Effects don't work in IE

Greetings:
Is there a way to use multiple fade effects in IE for the
menu widget? Currently, what's happening is that when I add the
fade effect to the parent div to the menu, the child node does not
want to expand to its third child in IE.
However, it does work in all of the other browsers.
I laboriously created a huge xml menu using the spry widget,
and then added the "fade" affect to it. It worked in all browsers
as intended BUT in Internet explorer.

Sound effects don't work

I am using iPad 2. It all works fine except for one thing. I have lost all sound effects. I can watch a YouTube clip and there is sound? however any sound involved in the running of the iPad or any apps does not work. I have tried many things but to no avail.
The keyboard doesn't click, there is no locking sound when I close the cover or charge the iPad. I read lots of Zinio magazines and ones like the national geographic are interactive with sound. There is no sound on Zinio anymore. The alarm clock does work and the alarm sounds. So I am most confused. Why do some things have sound and not others.
I hope someone can help. It has been like this for awhile. I have just updated to iOS 7 but the problem still exists. Any suggestions to try would be appreciated. I have tried rebooting. I have an idea that this problem has only happened since the revamp on the iPad interface with the previous upgrade.

Well I don't believe it. I have solved my own problem after months of having it. I had the side button selected to mute. I was still able to change the volume so figured that this is what it was for. I changed the side button to lock orientation. However it still works as a volume button and I now have all my sound effects back. I am confused as to why it works like this but the fact that I now have the sound I want I am happy regardless.
I will leave this post in case it helps someone else.

Effects don't work after rendering

I am new to FCP but I imported all my video and have completed most of my editing sucessfully, however, when I started adding transitions ( fade in/out) everything looked great until I rendered it. The final effect is a super fast fade out and in followed by a few black frames then the video goes back to normal. I've searched through all my manuals and no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds as though you have gaps between the clips as well as not enough handles for the transition.
1. Turn on Snapping (keystroke N) in the time line to make sure the clips snap to each other (touch) when you place them.
2. You need enough handles (extra footage) at the beginning and end of the clip so the transition has enough to work with.

[SOLVED] Just installed KDE 4.6, desktop effects don't work.

When I try to enable KDE's desktop effects the screen goes haywire and everything is black with nasty distorted lines. Then everything returns after a little while and KDE shows a popup notification saying that "desktop effects were too slow and have been suspended...".
I'm pretty sure my xorg.conf is configured perfectly, I've read everything there is to know about that. I was previously on Gnome with Compiz working flawlessly, so I have a feeling its not a video problem. There's always a small chance I could be wrong though.
Could it be a video driver problem? If so, what should I do about that?
Any idea what might be wrong?

I'm using xf86-video-ati with my ATI card.
I initially tried Gnome, but for some reason, gnome-shell just wouldn't start, so that why I ended up trying KDE. Once in KDE, i had this described problem.I couldn't fix it, and it was crashing (100% CPU usage sometimes), so I switched back to Gnome 3 to attempt to get the shell running. Finally, I figured out that you must not add "nomodeset" to the kernel boot line in order for gnome-shell to work, so I removed that from the end of my line and gnome-shell worked!
It might be possible that this is the solution for the KDE graphic problem as well... I'm testing it right now, i'll be back to post it after the restart...

New Photobooth Effects Don't Work in OS X Lion

Does anyone else that downloaded lion have issues with the new first page of effects in Photobooth? Mine isn't recognizing or even showing a preview of the new effects like dizzy, alien head, etc.

CS6 Premiere Pro and After Effects have stopped working :(

After installing the AdobeCS6 I removed CS4 by using the Creative Cleaner Tool. Now Premiere Pro and After Effects don't work and windows wouldn't tell me what the problemm is. The rest of the CS6 is working fine apparently. Do I have to un-install then re-install all the CS6? Is it normal that the CC Cleaner tool do this? ... Thank you!

Advice around these parts is not to remove older versions after you install a newer one, because this is exactly what can happen. If you want to get rid of an older version, do that before you install the new one.
So yes, you may well need to reinstall.

Adobe After Effects CC don't work in OS X version 10.9

Why I can’t use the application “Adobe After Effects CC 12.0” with this version of OS X Maverick?

I'm sorry, but I shouldn't have to go back to 10.5.8 to get features of my app to work. All other apps work fine using Rosetta. But, not droplets in PS, even when I'm running it under Rosetta. Apple has made updates to 10.6 to address problems with Adobe products, namely issues with saving, printing etc. Surely they didn't do this without some collaboration with Adobe? Am I going to have to wait for CS5 before droplets and other such features work in 10.6? I'd gladly take the issue up with Apple, but they'd tell me that it isn't their product and to contact Adobe, which is more or less the case here. Unless Adobe has CS5 coming out in the next couple of months isn't it reasonable to suggest that Adobe work with Apple to correct some of these issues? Perhaps Adobe could discover why droplets don't work in Rosetta, which would essentially be the same as reverting back to 10.5.8 for the specific app. I understand very well how updates of any kind can cause issues. But a lack of effort to remedy these issues by either party involved is simply not fair. "Oh well" just isn't acceptable anymore. If Adobe or Apple made a noticeable effort and still failed to correct the issues, then fine. Some things can't be fixed. However, I suspect that in this case the issues have been given little attention.

I'll go down your list one by one.
1. Access mail - which I know that the iPad can do.
Enough said.
2. Save an excel or word or ppt of PDF attachment for review.
You can view these types of documents natively on the iPad as Tgara has mentioned.
3. Open an review and maybe change a excel or word file.
There are many apps that allow this. I personally prefer Apples iWork programs, Pages, Numbers, Keynote. They tightly integrate with iCloud.
4. Resave such above files.
With Pages, Number, Keynote you can save/resave files in iCloud and locally. Also you could use dropbox to save your files on dropbox and provide a way for you to share a folder with coworkers/family and they can add/view/review files from there and you can see the changes on your device.
5. Reply to a mail attaching a file.
This is possible in many ways. From dropbox, or another app you can email files with the share button.
6. Be able to rename files and store them in specific folders.
This goes back to dropbox/iCloud. iOS doesn't really have a traditional file system. If you save a PDF it isn't saved anywhere you can just open it. You would have to open an app that supports view PDFs and select the PDF you wish to view. The same goes for documents, spreadsheets and etc.

Adobe Flash & Javascript don't work even though Enabled

Ever since what I think was either a Firefox upgrade (I don't know which one) or installation of Quicktime, my Adobe Flash Plugin is perpetually crashed and I cannot play any Flash content on any website. All that displays in place of the video is a gray screen with the sad-face Lego icon and the message: “The Adobe Flash Plugin has crashed. Please reload the page to try again.” (See attached image.) But it will not resolve when reloaded.
No Flash videos on any sites work. HTML5 videos work on YouTube when tested, but non-HTML5 videos won't work.
Also, my Javascript does not seem to be working since at least some displays requiring javascript don't work. Sometimes the display just doesn't work, and sometimes I get a message that javascript is disabled and must be enabled, but it is already enabled (set to “true” in about:config).
I have spent days scouring every help forum entry I can find on troubleshooting Flash Player and Javascript. Everything on my end seems to be in order and I cannot find or fix either problem. I think it is possible the issue could have its roots in the fact that Javascript seems to not be working which may be preventing Flash Player content from working...??
Also, Flash content does work in I.E. but not in Firefox (I do not have Chrome installed so did not test in Chrome). I have too many window tabs open in Firefox and can't switch to I.E. (nor do I like to use I.E.).
PLEASE HELP as this is crippling for very important work deadlines I have.

OS: 64-bit system; Windows 8.1 (but some auto-check utilities detect it as 8.0 because it was upgraded.);
Graphics Card: “Desktop Graphics” System – AMD Radeon HD 8400 (0x9830);
Installed Graphics Driver Version: AMD 13.352.1004.1007 (Driver Date: 4/22/2014)
My Device Manager graphics driver updater states: “driver software is up to date.”
From the AMD website: the graphics driver auto-detect utility recommended the AMD Catalyst Driver (amd-catalyst-omega-14.12-without-dotnet45-win8.1-64bit.exe) I tried installing this driver, but it won't install. After trying to install, I got a message stating: “We are unable to find a driver for your system.” But Device Manager states I have a current driver, and my graphics card & driver seem to be working fine, so I do not believe this is part of the issue.
I am using Latest Firefox version 35.0.1; and
Using Latest Flash Player: 32-bit NPAPI Plug-in Version: 16.0.0.296; designated: “always activate” (Downloaded new update several times, including fresh install after uninstall; system & web address icons indicate Flash is enabled).
I turned off hardware acceleration in FF Tools>Options>Advanced>General

I am using Ad-Block Plus which has never affected things in the past. I have not tried starting FF in Safe Mode because I believe I will lose all open tabs and not be able to recover them (I may have over 200 open). But disabling add-ons has no effect (I disabled all except for Sessions Manager in case of a crash). (My No-Script has been disabled for at least six months.)
I have Windows Media Player and Quicktime installed.
Quicktime is most recent upgrade (7.7.6) so should not be a problem according to:

Disabling Quicktime had no effect in the prior version of FF (ver. 35.0), but in latest FF ver. 35.0.1, Flash videos only display a plain (blank) gray screen instead of the sad-faced icon and crash message.
(I tried to uninstall Quicktime altogether, but was not able to due to Error codes 2502 & 2503. I tried troubleshooting that as well with no luck using methods successful for other programs, including here:

Disabling my FF theme and using the default brought back the sad-faced icon and crash message in the place of videos on some YouTube pages, but not other YouTube pages (where video was still blank gray screen). It also enabled a still Flash image (an ad) to display on a different website page that previously had a Flash Plugin crash message. I have been using this same theme for a couple of years without previous issue. While turning it off did generate an effect on some still imagery, it didn't fix the video problem.
I tried Disabling Protected Mode in Flash 11.3 as explained here:

It did not solve the issue.
I also deleted all storage & data in Flash Player as advised. This had no effect either.

Update is that I did try a whole slew of other troubleshooting steps including starting FF in safe mode, to no avail. However, I was FINALLY (after months) able to solve this problem just today by pure chance!
The problem was that hardware acceleration was enabled in the Flash settings. I had not been able to turn it off because I didn't have access to the Flash Player settings as long as the crash error message was visible, which was all the time! Today, by a sheer fluke, I saw a static picture in place of the crash message on a Flash video. I snagged the opportunity to call up the settings and turn off hardware acceleration, and it fixed the problem for my whole browser! This has been a frustrating issue because I did not have access to the settings utility as long as I had the crash message, which was always, so my Flash was crippled without the ability for me to fix it until pure luck gave me this window of opportunity.
Does anyone know another way to access the settings utility if this ever happens again in the future? I could not find a way. (Incidentally, I had tried disabling hardware acceleration via my graphics driver settings, but it didn't fix the problem.) We need Adobe to allow some other way to access the Flash Player settings utility when this problem arises since they aren't accessible when there is a static crash message.
