Effects in Motion..

I have a question, I have two layers in motion, the top one has an image and the second has another reverse image of the same size. I tried to group the two layers and apply the "page curl" effect to it. But motion would not apply the effect to the entire group, so that I can see the other image when I flip it...rather it applies to only one layer in the group.. Is there any possible way to get this right or any other alternative to get the page curl effect ?

  • I am new to After Effects and Motion 5 and I have a question

    Hello there,
I am currently working on a personal side project for a family member. She would like me to make a video with recorded audio and pictures from the 1920’s for my grandmother. I would like to give the parallax and 2.5D effect a try but as I never used After Effects or Motion before I am a little overwhelmed.
I have about 80 images to animate. Right now I am in the ‘Photoshop phase’. I am going through each image and separating the foreground, mid-ground, and background, into separate layers and saving the .psd files to eventually bring into Motion 5 (or After Effects) and animate.
    After seeing this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVrYyX3bHI8
I really wanted to animate the images I had in a similar fashion. I really loved how they seemed to move and know that I can accomplish this appearance with the pin tool in After Effects. After seeing this video however, I continued looking into the 2.5d effect and found this movie for Motion 5:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmxlm2nkVLA
I bought Motion 5 because I thought the interface seemed more user friendly to newcomers (like myself), the effects were similar, and because I couldn’t afford to pay for After Effects every month.
But now I am kicking myself. Motion 5 is lovely and I do like the camera effects but I don’t think I can accomplish the ‘puppet’ effect with it like I can in After Effects. Does anyone know if it is possible? Is there a plugin for Motion 5? Can I send my .psd files into Motion 5, set up the timeline and cameras, save it, and then move it into After Effects and then use the pin tool to manipulate the images and layers?
I have read that some say it is hard to move Motion files into After Effects? If this is the case, could I save the Motion file, open it in Adobe Premiere, and THEN open it in After Effects and play around with it?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much in advanced.

2.5D is fairly easy to do in Motion... that's the good news. The bad news is: if you don't know what you need to do to accomplish it, it's practically impossible to do easily or well.
The first problem to overcome is perspective, and the other problem is parallax.
These two tutorials (by Mark Spencer) will give you all the information you need dealing with moving Photoshop Layers in Z-space. Even though the point of the tutorials is a "fly through", the same information applies to creating 2.5D. Just animate the camera laterally (sweep) instead of dolly.

  • Cool effect..how can i create this effect on Motion 3?

    that's great.
Someone please tell me how can i create this effect on motion 3?
    http://www.ayatoweb.com/aetips_e/ae17_mov05e.html
    thanks

Use the bezier tool to create your shapes, give the shapes an Airbrush outline. Then apply a Write On behavior to each shape. Position the shapes in the timeline so they appear sequentially. To achieve the zooming out effect, you can either scale the whole group, or convert the group to 3D and use the camera to zoom out.

  • Reflection White effect in Motion 2?

Very new to Motion 2, I still have a greatt deal to learn. But I was wonder if there's a way to create the refection effects seen in iMovie HD, version iLife 6? I really like that effecta nd would like to be able to create similar effects in Motion. Can this be done? If so, can someone give be a step-by-step or point me in the general direction? Thank you!
    Mark

Thank you Patrick, but specifically, I'm trying to figure out how I can create the 3D motion as created by the iMovie 6 "Reflection White (or black) theme. I can see, somewhat, how to create a reflection and have that reflection be 3D and move, What I can't figure out is how to create the perspective of the image, or movie, changing with the movement—e.g., appearing as if to slide along a path and shrink or grow as it moves along the X, Y and Z planes. As with the "Reflection" themes, pictures and movies and move and swing in 3D space. I'm trying to simulate that type of motion.
    Thank you so much.

  • FCPX  unable to open effects in motion

in FCP X every time i try to open an effect in Motion it reads " there was a problem making a copy of the effect the file could not be written"

I am sorry I misunderstood you. But the usual first thing trash preferences both for Motion and FCPX with this utility http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/ which is free (maybe you have already done that)

  • Lightning effect in Motion 2.0

I have search far and near and cannot figure out how to create a lightning / electrical arcing effect in Motion 2. There are two clips (.MOV) of lightning in Motion but this is not what I need. I can mimmick this effect Photoshop, but those are all still shots. You lose the fluidity of a true arcing effect.
Is there a plug in similar to After Effects available for Motion? Has anyone else successfully created this effect in Motion? Any direction someone can point me would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I tried a line and displacement map, but couldn't get any movement on it unless I cranked up the vertical scale and even then, it didn't warp the way I expected it. I'm not sure why unless it has something to do with the way Motion builds the line.
So messing around, here's something I found that seems to work.
I created a line and added a bloom to it. Then I added the fisheye filter to the layer the line is in. For more realism, 2 or more looks better. I position them and then add a wriggle behavior to the center parameter by right-clicking it and choosing wriggle. If I want the warp to look smoother, I add an average behavior on top of the wriggle.

  • I can't find a appropriate sound Effect for motion template.

    Hi,
Like my title say I can't find a appropriate sound Effect for motion template. I am using the template that goes by SATIN and There I choose SATIN BLUE-MENU.
In that Template we can see a blue Sheet flying by. BUt I am totally lost to get a nice sound for that. So far I could not find any sound for that. I never Worked with sound Effect. I appreciate any tip.
What is better only sound or a music playing with it? What kind sound goes with it?
Hope to hear from you all.
    Thanks

I think you need to give us a little more information. Which program are you currently using? Soundtrack Pro, Motion, what? What does the Satin template do?
It sounds like what you're looking for is a "whoosh" effect -- like maybe a gust of wind or something like that. In finder search for the word "whoosh" and then select whichever drive has your Apple loops. You'll find a plethora of whooshes.
Of course that may not be what you're looking for. You'll have be be a little more specific with what the picture is that you're trying to add sounds to, and even then, it's still your artistic choice.

  • Using the write on effect and motion sketch - how to cross T's and dot i's

I'm trying to use motion sketch and write on to create a signature (using the position values from Motion Sketch layer to control the position of paint brush on Write On layer).
What's the best way to cross the letter T or dot an i?
With motion sketch, as soon as you release the mouse button, things are terminated.
If I simply restart the motion sketch capture to cross my t, the horizontal line happens at the beginning (time 0), even if I advance the playhead /CTI to the appropriate spot (after rest of word drawn).
Is the best workaround simply to repeat the process on fresh layers to complete any discontiguous strokes and then manually position those in the timeline?
Not a big deal if I just want a re-usable signature.  But if I wanted to use this on longer writing samples more routinely, it could get a bit cumbersome.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

When animating a person's signature, I use masks to define a path, then apply the Write-On effect: one instance of Write-On for each contiguous piece of writing.  This means that at natural pen lift points, there's a new instance of Write-On.
Animating real signatures takes some doing because it's not an automatic process at all, but it's worth doing in the end.

  • Ease in/out of effect in Motion TAB ?

From the Motion tab inside FCP-
Is there a way to create an ease IN/OUT of a size or rotation change?
    example:
I have a rotating postcard graphic that snaps into it's final position and I would like it to ease into that resting spot with more grace.

This is covered in the Final Cut Pro user manual.
Chapter 67, "Adjusting Parameters for Keyframed Effects", in the section "Controlling Speed Along a Motion Path" on page 1123 of the pdf file found in the application's Help menu bar item.

  • How do I create this text effect in motion?

    Hi,
I am a bit of a motion newbie - and am stuck as to how to replicate this sratchy/jumpy/glow text effect found in the video preview here . . . .
    http://www.worshiphousemedia.com/index.cfm?hndl=details&tab=MM&id=4609
(click the video in top left)
If anyone can offer some help it would be greatly appreciated.
    Warmest Regards,

mark, patrick, pierre and Longstrider - thankyou - sucess!
Longstrider- special thanks for your fab run through I knew it couldn't be too tricky... hehe - it really isnt!
I have got it shaking and mimicked exactly as in the sample vid clip - now i just have to add the randomisation on opacity, and perhaps some graininess to the text (text edging&fill is a bit sharp and clean).
Once again - thankyou so much!
    Warmest Regards,

  • How do you add video effects-slow motion

Not real happy with 08 over previous versions but I would like to gain back some of the functionality that I regularly used. How do I add special effects, such as slow motion to a video clip or a portion of a video clip.

How do you do it IMovie HD in Ilife 08?
Both applications can be run on the same computer. Use whichever application best serves your needs. If you need a lot of plug-in effects, use HD. If few or nor effects other than standard transitions and titles are required and speed is paramount, then use iMovie '08. If you like being innovative and want to try your hand at creating your own effects, use iMovie '08 and learn how perform pre- and post-edits to create your own fast motion, slow motion, stop motion, pseudo time lapse, still framed, backgrounded, blended, layered, picture-in-picture, etc. that may "tickle your fancy."

  • Effect Controls motion - tutorial?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good tutorial? I need to learn more about fine control of motion under "Effect Controls". 'Ease in' and 'Ease out' are not enough. For example; if zooming out from the centre of a still picture, until the picture fits the screen or further, the zoom increases in speed as it pulls away from the centre of the picture until by the time it reaches screen-fit or beyond it's racing. How can I programme a start-to-finish even speed throughout such a zoom?
    Cheers,
    Aidan

Twirl down the Scale property to expose the graph editor.  Change the
keyframe type to Bezier.  Adjust the KF handles to create a graph curve
that changes faster at the beginning and slower at the end of the zoom.
FWIW, until you adjust the KF handles, the zoom is proceeding at a
(mathematically) constant speed.  The problem is that the constant speed
produces the illusion of going faster at the end.

  • Effects Scroll motion

    Hi all;
I am missing the Scroll Motion tab under the Effecrs button.
I have installed Muse CC, no upgrades available, so its not that.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Maarten

Actually, the problem is the inverse. The Muse you have installed is more up-to-date than whatever documentation you're referring to. With the November update of Muse Scroll Effects were significantly enhanced and as part of that they've been broken out into their own panel that can be accessed via the Windows menu. Select "Scroll Effects".

  • Is it possible to pull off this typography effect in Motion?

I came across this some time ago and have always wondered if it's possbile to at least simulate parts of it in Motion.
    http://www.romancortes.com/ficheros/dancing-typography.html
Basically, I'm wondering what would be the best way to constrain a replicator within a shape. Also, is replicator the best option for the letters?
    Thanks for any clues/suggestions

Hello, I'm the author of that visual effect. The effect is the result of my own computer vision research, so, as far as I know, my experimental software is the only one currently developed doing it in a fully automatized way.
Unfortunately my software is not user friendly nor it has ever been thought for being public released.
Since a lot of people has been interested on it, I'm currently writing a blog post on how it works. I will be publishing it soon in the hope that any software developer take the ideas and make a good, user-friendly software, to allow people make such kind of visual effects.

  • After Effects CS3 Motion Stabilize Irritation

    Hello!
I am pretty new to After Effects, and I've been trying to learn learn learn. Though, I am having a strange and annoying problem.
Imagine you set the table for dinner. and everything is perfect. Then when you go to put dinner on it. everything is messed up again!
Aside from the analogy, lemme explain my problem... I have some pretty shakey footage I am working with. I am trying to stabilize it. It is only standard def, but I have a point in the video that I can easily track.
    I'll set it up by:
    Clicking the layer
    Opening the Tracker Controls box
    Clicking Stabilize Motion
    Setting up the tracker point
Then I'll click the analyze button. It tracks it fine. I then hit apply. It worked! I made it perfect for me!
Then the problem arises. For what reason, I am not sure. But anytime I RAM preview it again, or render it, it gets worse!
The picture gets jumpier each time. I'm absolutley baffled. I went closer to try and figure it out. I checked frame by frame and it seems that the motion tracker gets knocked a little early or late or something. For example, in a video 3 frames in length. The first 2 targets are in the center, and then it moves right, and the tracker follows this fine. Then I watch it again, and the first frame is correct, then the 2nd frame moves where the 3rd should be, and the 3rd frame is correct. If that made any sense.
I am hoping that someone out there has any advice for me. I'm starting to get frustrated.
    Thanks,
    ~Bill L.

    Thanks for the help.
I makes sense that it is the frames.
So I'm checking the frame rates now. Under the video file interpretation,
Frame Rate: "Use frame rate from file: (29.970 fps)"
    Fields and Pulldown: Spereate Fields=Off
    Square pixels.
Under the Comp(which was made from just dragging my file to the timeline)
Frame Rate: 29.97 Frames per second
    Advanced:
~Preserve frame rate when nested or in render queue is UNCHECKED
~Preserve resolution when nested is UNCHECKED
Not sure if there is something I didn't list here that would need to be. I still can't get the video to work and these seem like the right settings.
Is there something I'm not seeing? Or is this something I just don't know to check ?
    Thanks again,
    ~Bill L.
    ******EDIT******
P.S. I also tried stabilizing the footage when the video's frame rate was set to "Conform to frame rate 29.97" Same issue, everytime I RAM preview/render the footage gets jumpier and jumpier.
