EFFECTS OF AFTER EFFECTS

Adobes After effects is something which has been my favourite when it comes to creating motion graphics in the process of film making.
Creativity is onething which gets stucked in my mind whenever i think of graphics.
Based upon my knowledge and the craze of creating something out of my creative mind, I decided to make few videos out of after effects using some special effects.
However in the process of creation, I faced 1 big problem and that is the rendering time. And few other times, the entire application got crashed all of a sudden again i had to restart the application. My search for the solution brought me upto this page. In the meantime I learnt 1 method of reducing the rendring time (atleast by 30%) and that is by the use of proxies inside after effects.
Now comming to the possible effects you can create with after effects, theres no end to creativity, each one has varying degrees of creative ideas.
Here below are the links to my creations:

I am in need of suggestions and some tips so that i can improve my creativity and come up with some of the best possible effects with after effects.

No.

  • Colour Effect In after effects

    Hi Friends,
I have after effects cs5 and I am learning it  myself by watching free video tutorials available on the internet.
I am searching for a tutorial of video colour effect sawn in below image.
Actually in that video some area is B&W but some is coloured. What is the name of this effect and how can I create this kind of video effect in After effects CS5? Where can I find its tutorials? [Please see below image].
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Vipati

So as to create such sort of effect, you need to separate targeted area from the rest of your footage.
Since you are on CS5, you may use awesome Roto Brush Tool (see this help section with two video tutorials included how to use it).

  • Looping effects in After Effects?

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to loop an effect in after effects. Let me explain more. I'm creating a scene with changing colors, the best look for me was using
the Hue/Saturation effect. I would just key frame it and change the color every 5 frames, this gives me a quick color change. The thing is, its tedious to key frame it
every 5 frames for the entire clip. It would be better if I could some how loop it through the entire clip. I basically want to animate it for about 30 frames and than
take that animation and loop it for the rest of the clip.
I hope I explained this well enough, if you want more information let me know, thanks for any help!

Create two key frames say at 01:00 and 02:00. Now copy the two key frames and paste at 02:01. Now you will have four  key frames with one loop.
In Effects Control  panel, Alt click on Channle range(if you are animating Master Hue), Click on the small arrow button to open Expression Language. Go to Property and choose
    loopOut(type="cycle", numKeyframes=0): .
This will create a loop animation of your two key frames.

  • Puddle and reflection effects in After Effects CS4

I am currently using After Effects CS4 (will be upgrading to CS6 in a couple of days) and I am currently trying out a test project using basic lighting animation.  However, one element I want to create is a puddle on the ground.  I was wondering if anybody here could advise on creating a puddle and its effects in After Effects, such as wave movements, reflection (particularly background elements) and whether I should use the basic pen tool or use some sort of diffusion maps.  If I wanted to make things a little more complicated, then how can I create rain effects to hit the ground plane without it looking like a screen filter and have it influence the puddle?
If any of you would be able to point me out to some other tutorials on the web, I would be very grateful for that.

GenArts' Monsters GT has a Puddle 3D effect that is quite okay for that. Beyond that I don't see how we should advise specifically without a reference image. There's a million types of puddle from still and murky flat ones to deep asphalt holes to wavy large ones on fields and how "real" they look will ultimately depend on their context.

  • How can i make this effect in After Effects?

hello guys, im new to this awesome program, im using the trial version so ive limited time to learn XD
can you tell me ho can i replicate this effect in after effect?
    http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2ajnybc&s=6
looks like speed effect... is there a way to replicate it in after effects?
    thank you

CC Bender is really easy to use. Just take the default settings and animate the amount with about three keyframes.
We can make it a lot more complicated with something like liquefy, or even Time Displacement.

  • Mac PhotoBooth Squeeze effect for After Effects

    Hello,
I am trying to achieve with after effects the same effect produced by the PhotoBooth sofware that comes with Mac.
I am looking for the "Squeeze" effect present in photobooth, is there such an effect to achieve the same effect with after effects?
    Attached image for reference.
Thanks in advance for all the help.
    Andres Calvo

I have been able to emulate the squeeze effect using the "flo_motion" effect. It works by modifiying one of the knots of the effect, and leaving the second knot on "0".
Still looking for other options. Peace and strength.

  • Looking for a better resource to get a handle on using effects in after effects (CS6 BTW)

    Hello thanks for looking in,
I would like to get better control over Zooming. The Zooming I found in AE did not function when
dragged it into my effects controller...Is the only Zoom control really the "Scale" as found in Prem-Pro?
I could not find it in AE. I wanted to zoom over the shoulder of my actor and concentrate on what my Actor is looking at/pointing at. I could not find where that effect is at in AE.
If you know of a couple good tutorials to watch that show how to control the effecst in After-Effects it would be welcomed and appreciated. If you know the specific path to use to pan and
zoom for my desired shot mentioned, that too would be appreciated. One other ? I skimmed through "Creative Cow" but there are many videos and after watching a couple that were titled what
I want, were not what I was looking for. Spent an hour plus surfing before I came here to ask.
Are some of the effects only applicable to one or the other? IE: Movies or stills? If so is there a
manual that states what can be used with what? I tried dragging some of the effects into my effects area and they would not populate. IE: Zoom Forward. Only used for Text?
Thanks for your time with this in advance.

  • How do you do this effect on after effects?

I want to animate a video making so as to make it look like a painting is painting itself in front of our eyes.
    Take for example this picture
Starting from a white image, do you know a way, with after effects, to make it look as if an invisible brush was painting it before our eyes?
Please do tell me if i'm being unclear or imprecise about what i want and i will elaborate.
    Thanks

You use animated track mattes. The trick is creating the track matte. You can use dozens of techniques but most if not all involve a bunch of hand work.
Here's what a Google search turned up as the first offering when searching "After Effects reveal painting tutorial." I didn't watch the tutorial but it should get you started. As I said in the first sentence, there are hundreds of different ways you can do this technique but all involve animated track mattes.

  • How to use Pixel Bender Effects in After Effects

    Hello,
if I create a filter in Pixel Bender I can save it as
.pbk-file. But After Effects uses .aex-files for PlugIns. How can I

    can I do?
    Thanks for each help!

Oh, now I copied the .pnb-file in the PlugIn-Folder.
Now I saw the new category Pixel Bender in the Effects menu.

  • Importing a Premiere Pro Sequence into After Effects Crashes After Effects

    Hello,
I'm on a Quad Core Mac, 2.8GHZ with 6GB of Ram.
I have a Premeire Pro project with varying MOV and MP4 files; from a DSLR and from a Sony EX-1 camera.  This project has lots of media, over 3 TBs, and each and every time I try to import it into After Effects-After Effects crashes and does not respond.
    Please help.
    Thanks

Don't try and do a whole movie in AE. After Effects is for making shots or short sequences. Break up the projects. Organize. 3TB of source materials into AE's Project folder means linking, analyzing, interpreting, and generating previews for enough material to shoot a feature film. Bring in the shots you're working on, not the entire movie. If you need to do an entire movie, break that up to Scenes and make each scene a separate project.
Terabytes of data would also choke Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid, or any other NLE if it was dumped in all at once. The only reason that a NLE can handle that much data is that there were some caches created when the footage was imported.

  • Old Paper Effects in After Effects (or Digieffects)?

Hi! Is there an easy way to simulate an "older paper" look in After Effects, or possibly with any of the Digieffects plugins? (I have many of their products, including Delirium, Berserk, and Aurorix, a few others.)
    Thanks!

What do you understand as "old paper"? Unless the paper itself needs to fold and bend, you can find enough textures/ photos on the internet that serve this purpose. CGTextures and similar sites surely offer enough of them, you may just need to combine different ones, e.g. dirty concrete with some ink splats, then adjust the colors to look like paper. Absolutely possible. Failing that, you can easily create some effects of your own and scan the resulting sheet. in any case, it's usually a lot easier to base such work on real sources than trying to create it artificially...

  • NO SOUND or Effects in After Effects CS5

I just spent 6 hours trying to get sound to play in AE in Windows 7 with no luck.  I tried every common sense thing I could come up with including pressing space bar, and pressing things in the preview pane.  Then I read all FAQ's and found out not to use space bar, but to try to scrub audio etc.  Then I tried to "change output module settings" but nothing matched with the faq.   If it said to do something, it usually didn't exist unless you somehow got to the part they discussed.    But eventually I found the checkbox and it didn't help.  I tried changing things in the final box when you go to render, to render audio, but that didn't work.  I know my computer has all the right hardware/drivers because I have many other sound and video editing programs which work with no problems. I also have ASIO as an option to try.   I went into edit-preferences->audio hardware, and the audo output mapping with no luck.  I re-installed windows 7 with a clean install after formatting, and set up with the most basic settings and that didn't work either.
Also no matter what I do, I can not get sound to export with the video as AE strips the audio out.  In fact I can't get any video effects to export.  I tried everything above and nothing helped.  I could even at points see the audio waveform in the editor.  Plus I know the video has audio.  But to make sure I tried 4 or 5 more videos and sometimes in different formats and that didn't work.  After spending this much time, I find this pretty counter intuitive given that every other editor like Sony Vegas etc, simply assumes a default that you want to be able to hear the audio track when playing, and assumes if you put effects on, they should render to the output file.  Then they give you ways to turn this off.  At any rate, I feel pretty stuck at this point. If anyone knows how to get sound within the program, or verify it's working I'd appreciate it.  Also a way to export the effects to the output render file would also be useful.  Thanks.

"A useless fluff question"?  lol.  I would have been happy to provide more info, but it's not a fluff question and no need to be insulting.  Especially when it sounds like you don't understand how AE works your self.  Sorry to be blunt about that, but most of what you needed to know was in that question.  So you're telling me that your only "useful" information is knowing about my motherboard or audio chipset?  Had I posted just that you would have likely told me it wasn't useful and ask me to describe the problem in more detail.   I was already trying not to make the post too long because people tend to skip things.  I asked for a simple way to verify my sound was working because I was unfamiliar with AE, and for all I knew I wasn't using the program correctly.  That's a logical approach and should have been the first step.  Anyone who knew anything about AE could have told me to look at the speaker icon, or confirm the preview pane could play sound after rendered. Or given me a simple 1,2,3 quick list to check the sound. Then we could have proceeded from there.
Did you provide any of that to save time?  No.  It seems you skipped it.  Then you ask me what 3rd party codecs I have installed.  What part about me reformatting my ssd and clean installing windows 7 didn't you get?  You say there wasn't useful information, but did you even read that?  With a clean install, obviously all codecs are provided by Microsoft up until the point that After Effects was installed and it added a few of its own.  The only exception was the addition of quicktime after the program was 1st tried without it.  Again, 100% clean, fresh system with 100% working hardware.  But here:  I have an x58 board with core i7 at 4ghz, 12GB ram, using windows 7 built in drivers for high definition audio device, standard version 6.1.7600.16385  working w/ onboard chipset.  I was also avoiding installing my creative labs x-fi to keep it as simple as possible.  But regardless, AE doesn't communicate with hardware, but the API, as well.  Which is why the sound options for WDM and/or ASIO were provided in the settings of AE as mentioned.   That should have been the biggest clue that I was just misunderstanding some step in AE's operation.
That said, I found other ways to verify sound was working.  One was to hold the appropriate key while scrubbing and audio and video play simultaneously.  One easy click did it.   Only thing is I have to manually move the cursor to hear it. Another was to look at the speaker cone icon on the track.  Finally I found that changing the work area size and doing ram-preview let me hear sound anywhere in the video in sections.  That made a lot more sense than it jumping to the beginning of the video and trying to render the entire clip.  I also found out about adding to the render que which solved the problem of no sound in my outputed video.   So maybe I can get points on this board for solving my own question? LOL.
And as I found out, the where-is-the-sound question is the most common in After Effects.  Yet the FAQ's do an absolutely horrible job at making that clear.  Sure it may be buried in some abstract way, but if it were my company I'd have an awesome step by step section on explaining the deal with sound and what to expect.  Or better I'd allow real time sound playback whenever it could render at 100% or faster as in other programs. Or maybe even 80%. It's kind of distrubing a $1000 program has such inefficient online resources for the most basic things.  I can see reading a manual to learn the cool more intricate things, but playing back sound should work out of the box with NO questions asked.  If that's not possible, it should come with a great explanation, or read me or something that grabs a persons attention quickly as soon as they install it.  That said, it took me longer, but I figured everything out on my own.

  • 3D Effect In After Effects

Hey everyone this is my first post here, and it happens to be a question I haven't been able to find an answer to.
Compared to you guys I'm very new at working with After Effects, so, please, bear with me.
I've been meaning to replicate an effect seen in this video:
Specifically from seconds :19 to :23.
The effect consists of showing a flat solid, then the camera angle changes to a perspective in which we see the rectangle was in fact extruded, and had depth.
My first though was that maybe the answer was to make a render on a 3D modeling/animation program, and import that into After Effects for placing and post-production (such as the binary texture I'm guessing), but, I have a feeling there's a much simpler way to do this that I just don't know, can anyone please help me out?
The intention is to replicate an effect like that, being able to see an element on screen which is initally seen as flat, and then have tha camera move to a perspective in which we can see the element, in fact, has depth.
I really hope you can help me out with this.
I hope this is the first of many posts I make on this forum.

For the specific case that you show, you could just have a few flat 3D layers joined together at their edges to make a box, and fly a camera around that.
There are several resources that show how to create 3D boxes.
... or you could use this handy script:

  • Fire effect in after effects

alright i saw this video and im not sure how to do this i was trying and i can't really get close this is all in after effects no stock footage or anything
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqXrSiQxuSE

The fire effect that I created in the example was
    A 32 Bit Project
A solid with Fractal Noise pre-composed
The pre-Comp with Colorama and turbulent displace
Another nested comp with Fractal noise used as a displacement map
A duplicate of the nested comp with blur and Colorama
The footage of a very small flame with a huge blur overlaid using the add mode to give flickering color values to the fire
A little more blur and Colorama, hue/saturation, Tri-Tone and probably some other color effects on other layers
Pre-composed all of the above and then duplicated the footage layer, but the fire pre-comp in between the copies.
Roto the boy walking in on the top copy of the footage layers
Some light wrap generated with the alpha from the roto, some blur and some more layers.
Manipulation of opacity blurs and color.
A bunch of other masks and color effects on duplicates of the fire, the footage and the light wrap layers to complete the effect.
I don't have the file in front of me but this is a fairly good representation of the 12 step and probably 15 or 20 layer comp it took to pull off the final fire effect. The shot as you see it was then further color graded to enhance the believability of the shot. As Mylenium said fire is not a single click magic button effect even if you pay for a plug-in that specifically was designed to create fire.
To tell you the truth, even compositing footage of real fire in a scene is a lot more than just a couple of layers and a matte. I've also done that on several projects and it always involved 8 or 10 layers to make it look 'real' to my standard of production.
