Effects on titles

For some reason any effect I put on a title is not working... It just rolls through the effect and then jump cuts to the title. Even with just a dissolve. Anyone else having this problem??? They work when they are un-rendered but as soon as you render them to no longer work.

Thanks Jeff, it's good to know it works, I'll give you some details first and then you can tell if you need me to get you any screens.
Well to give you a quick run down. I drag and drop transitions over my desired location and this has worked for every transition in my sequence, except the title. I've tried adding black video over top of the title and fading it in, nope doesn't work. The funny thing is it plays back fine in the program window, but refuses to render like all the other effects in my sequence and of course doesn't export. In the case of adding a key frame it goes through the motions of rendering but I end up with the red line of death still appearing above the effect in my title.
I have a new Dell t3500 workstation with quad xeon, quadro nvideo video card and 3 hdd's with captured video and audio on one, previews write to another, and applications on the main drive.

Help! Applying Effects to Titles

Hi there,
Why can't I successfully apply effects to titles (black background/white letters) without the title going bright white after rendering??? In preview mode everything looks great. I reopen file and try again, but it never works.
Any amount of advice would help this frustrated beginner. Thanks!!!!!!!!

I have a iMac G5, and so far the following effects have had this problem: rain, fog, letterbox. I did however get letterbox to work in a previous project I worked on a few months ago. But can't get them to work since.
I'm using iMovie 5.0.2 (oops am I in the wrong discussion room?)

How to save video effects for title templates?

I just started playing with Premiere Pro CS4.
I have a beginners question, hope you don't mind:
In my video I use a third-low title to tell the name of songs played. I put them in a bin, basically just copy the first one and change the names in the copies. But when I add them to the timeline I noticed it looks much more professional to add a video-effect where opacity goes from 0 to 100% in a second, and then the other way at the end.
My problem is that I seem to have to do this over and over again, for each title. Is there a simple way to make one title-template, put it on the timeline, add video-effects, and then save that and make copies just changing the text in time-line? That would save me a lot of work, and the video-effects would be consistent in looks and timing.
Thanks for any hints or tips for this newbie.

Adding fading in effect to titles?

Hey. I want the title i have put in my movie to slowly fade in, instead of just appearing. I have done the research but was unable to find the method. I have adobe premiere cs4. Thank you for the help in advance, i really appreciate it.

do i really need to download a plug in to have the titles fade in? I dont think its that special of an effect... when i say fade in i mean liike, at first the title is not visible, but as time passess the title becomes more visible and visible until its fully in view. Its like a standard title function. Even windows movie maker has it i believe

Applying effect to title background mask?

I am trying to create a title for FCPX 10.1.4 with Motion 5 (the latest version).
I want it to be a lower third with a blurred background so that the footage is still identifiable but doesn't distract from the text. Imagine this like a normal lower third with a rectangular background the text is projected on, just that the background is not a solid color but the blurry image of what's underneath. I used a Gaussian blur effect for the footage and a mask that fades in and out, unfortunately this leaves me with a black background in FCPX and the only thing visible is a small portion of the background, blurred and beneath the title. I would like the black background to be the normal background and not the black color. None of the compositing settings seem to work. I tried adding a drop zone but unfortunately that adds a second source and it's very complicated to pick exactly the footage that lies underneath the title when it appears. The background color in Project Settings has no effect on the title so when I set that to white the outcome is still a black screen.

Easy. You can't duplicate the Text Template background layer, but you can make a Clone layer of it. Put the Clone layer on top! Apply the Gaussian Blur to that Clone layer, and then use the Crop tool to crop it down to where you want it. I'd still put a drop shadow on the text, though.
Anything you do to the original layer gets done to the Clone, but what you do to a Clone is NOT transferred to the original layer.

I got this fixed,
I disabled the tabbing on the window opening the title window, this happens to be my main app.
After calling the popup manager I simply call.
Application.application.tabChildren = false;
Then I created a custom event for the cancel.
Add event listners to the popups then on event I simply re-enable tabbing

After Effects 4K Title & Animation Issue

Hello,
I am having an issue implementing titles for my project in PP that were created in AE. I had someone make me title animations and logo animations for me. He designed them for 1920X1080, but my footage and sequence is 4096 X 2160, and now he's on vacation for three weeks in Europe. I have all the assets and project files for this project. I tried to do a simple change in the sequence settings of the comps but that didn't solve anything. I also tried scaling up the layers but then the animation paths got messed up. How can I re-size the titles so they match the sequence correctly?

Check the comp resizer script that comes with AE and there's a similar, more advanced floating around on AEScripts or AEnhancers somewhere. Though the aspect ratios being slightly different you may still need to intervene manually. If ev erything is based on shape layers, vector artwork and text layers, enabling the collapse transformations switch might also allow scaling the pre-comps up without any loss of quality whiel retaining the animation...

Audio/effects/transitions/titles from older versions of iMovie

I've discovered that iMovie 3 removed some content that was present in iMovie 2; specifically, the Water Ripple effect, and all the old stock audio clips. Granted, the new audio Skywalker Sound audio clips in iMovie 3 were better, but it'd still be nice to have access to the old ones too. So I have two questions:
Does anyone know if anything else was removed going from iMovie 3->4, 4->5, or 5->6?
Is there a way to get those old audio/effects back into later versions of iMovie? (Maybe a way to upgrade that preserves the older content, sort of like how you can upgrade iDVD 3 to iDVD 4 in order to keep the older iDVD 1 & 2 themes.)
Also another question: once upon a time, available for free download from Apple's website were a bunch of additional iMovie audio clips, background sets, etc. Alas, Apple has proven just as averse to preserving its past as nearly any other corporation: those files have long since been removed. Is there an archive of these anywhere?

Well after a bit of research I discovered that the old effect files can be integrated into later versions of iMovie. Basically what you have to do is right-click iMovie 2 and choose Show Package Contents. For the Water Ripple effect, navigate to Contents->Plug-ins, and copy the file Ripple.bundle, and create a copy of it to ~/Library/iMovie/Plug-ins. For the old stock audio sound effects, go back to the iMovie 2 package contents, navigate to Contents->Resources->Sound Effects, and copy all the files enclosed to ~/Library/iMovie/Sound Effects.
Of course you could always copy these files to the package contents of the later iMovie.app, but this way is a bit less of a "hack". (Oddly though when I tried just that, Ripple.bundle would only work when placed in iMovie->Contents->Plugins, not to be confused with the separate Plug-ins folder that it was stored in within iMovie 2.)
Anyway, hope this info helps somebody out there!

What does the "Music and Sound Effects", "Photos", "Titles", etc. buttons turn grey and make unelectable?

I'm on into my first steps in iMovie 11 and I try to apply the things from the "Getting started" video tutorials. However when I come to the "import photos from iPhoto" I find all my buttons grey and unelectable. I checked preferences but I didn't find any parameter which relates to that topic.
I'm sure someone knows and I'd appreciate help on this.

Titles and effects on iMovie

I just bought a MacBook Pro and have been using iMovie to edit short films. Is there anyway I can add more titles and effect. the titles and effects i have on my powerbook G4 are more than the ones on my new laptop. Isn't this new machine supposed to have better options???
Please help me find a way to incorporate more interesting titles and effects to my films.

Ok, maybe I was too wordy in explaining my problem before. Basically, my issue is that any clips on my timeline to which I add any effects or titles become smaller/cropped. I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro 1.0.

These are raw DV files that I literally import straight from my digital camera - just a Canon Powershot.
While this might not be the cause of your problem, the potential is rather high.
Please step us through your Import, and also get the full details of these files. I'd suggest that you use G-Spot (freeware) to provide these details to you. A screen-cap of the G-Spot GUI, with the file loaded, will give that detail and save you a lot of typing.
We know that your Sequence is DV 48KHz. Is it NTSC, or PAL?

Ken Burns effect

Under Snow Leopard 10.6.8 I am using iMovie '11 version 9.0.4 (1634).
Making for the first time a movie out of iPhoto pictures, with lots of effects (transitions, titles, etc.), I experience in the use of the Ken Burns effect that any zooming ('in' as well as 'out'), or panning, constantly generates a kind of 'moiré' artifact: stones, leaves, steps, rooftiles and in general anything that is rather detailed, start to twinkle and flicker. The duration of those scenes varies between 1.14 and 4.00. On extreme shortcuts, this effect is - as seems obvious - rather not seen.
As the use of the Ken Burns effect in my iMovie project is essential, I love to know how to avoid that detoriation. In iMovie itself it is not too ennoying on my 27" iMac monitor. But on TV, with the DVD burned (iDVD version 7.1.2 - 1158), it is really desastrous to watch...
Is upgrading from iMovie to Final Cut a solution?

The only other thing you can try is to look at your workflow from iMovie to iDVD. There are two possible paths:
1. Share > Share to iDVD
2. Share > Share to Media Browser
For highest quality the second option is the best. It uses a completely different mechanism than option 1. Believe it or not Option 1 actually transcodes to MPEG 2 directly into the iDVD project. Whereas option 2 converts to H.264 then gets transcoded within iDVD itself.
Which way did you get your video into iDVD originally? I don't know if changing the path into iDVD will have any effect on your moiré artifacts.
