Effects & Transitions

I'm trying to create a Keynote presentation with effects & transitions. However, when i select the effect & the Duration - and then select for the transition to start automatically after a certain amount of seconds - everything defaults back to the way it was when i click on the next slide and it won't save the effects & duration for the slides.
What is wrong with this? I am running Keynote 5.0.3 ('09) on a machine running 10.6.3.
I have located and removed the com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist file out of ~/User/Library/Preferences - and relaunched Keynote - this did not correct the problem. It continues to not remember my settings from slide to slide.
Does anybody else have any recommendations? Thank you.

Well i think i may have figured this out now just by dumb luck. Instead of physically entering the number of seconds per transition, per slide - i hit the up and down arrows instead.
Adjusting the time with the arrows up and down for whatever reason seemed to save it - whereas, what i was doing before was just going from slide to slide and entering in 5, or 10 seconds per transition....when i would move on to the next slide by doing it this way, it would always default back to 1.
Use the arrows.

  • Export presentation from my imac to my ipad with the object effect transitions

Well i've made a presentation, took me a few days to make and somehow i forgot that the only way i can present it is through my ipad, and is there a way i can export my presentation whilst not losing the object effect transitions???
i've tried making it into a video and sending it to my ipad but that doesn't work

You might get a quicker/better response in the iWork for iPad forum. Not all of us here have used the iPad and know what is compatible and what is not.

  • Manual use of effects/transitions from themes...

I am new to PE, just installed PE10 yesterday... I wish to use the effects/transitions that are in the instant movie (themes) manually, but they are not provided as choices from the effects/transition menus.  Is there any way to use them?  The instant movie feature doesn't allow for the video editing I require. Thanks.*

As Bill said there is this facility called 'Break Apart Instant Movie' in the right click menu on Instant movie, which breaks apart the Instant movie into its components. You can do editing on these parts.
And the effects/transitions used in Instant movie are very well present in the effects/tarnsitions menus. All effects/transitions/titles used in Instant Movies are present there.
And if you want to know what effects/transition was applied in Instant Movie, you can Break Apart it. In the broken components, select the clip whose/effect/transition you want to know and click on Properties button(which is below the monitor).
It will give you the name of effect/transition used.

  • What is this Effect/Transition?

What is this effect/transition used at the beginning of this video?
Where can I download this effect so that I may use it?

You can also achieve this look by using an overlay of a 'film burn' effect.
The overlay clip seems to have some hand-written 'Leader' included.
Also, it does look like there's a bit of added 'Film Grain / Dust / Hair' efx
created by some sort of 'Old Film' plugin.

  • Is there any way to get more effects/transitions free for CC ?

The one thing FCP X has over PP CC is that it has many more included effects/transitions, basic things even like star wipes and circular wipes - CC doesn't seem to have a lot of that - does anyone know where to get free plugins from ?

To create a custom effect, I usually start with a preset that is simiilar to the effect I want, apply it to the clip, change/customise as you want, then in the Effect Controls window right-click (Windows) on the Effect and you will see an option to "Save Preset".  It will then show up under Presets at the top of the list.
Periodically it is a good idea to back up the presets (as it is any of the settings because the new Sync to Cloud doesn't seem all that reliable or does it even back these up, IDK) by clicking on the panel menu and selecting "Export" option.

  • How to have no effects/transitions in iPhoto 11

I'm trying to create a slideshow without transitions, effects, music, etc in iPhoto 11. I can stop the music, eventually (unclick Play Music During Slideshow. Have selected Transistions: None. It seems to be Themes is the problem.
How can I get Themes = None (like iMovie)? Is there one to select or import?
You may think this is strange, but I want photos & videos to be just that. No more and no less.

    Choose the Classic theme.

  • PE7 crashes with 'effects' & 'transitions'??

    Hi All,
New user of PE7 and of this forum.
I installed PE7 this weekend and have been using it for about 5hrs in total. I'm a novice video editor and have chosen PE7 to get me started with editing my raw AVCHD files from my Canon HG10.
My problem is that in the 'Edit' tab, I cannot use either the 'effects' or 'transitions' or my computer crashes. By crashes, specifically I get the following message:
A white window appears in the center of the screen entitled "Microsoft Windows". The error message states "Adobe Premiere Elements.exe has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem." And after 20 seconds of thinking the error message goes on to say "A problem casued the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
All other aspects of PE7 work fine. I have imported over 50 raw AVCHD files, mucked about with them, split them, added music files, added titles etc and then rendered to my hard drive and also rendered and uploaded directly to Youtube. All of this works perfectly. Just not the 'effects' or 'transitions' which is very frustrating.
    Regarding my computer/system:
    Pentium i7 920 Quad Core
    12 GB DD3 RAM 1600
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64 bit (the operating system is installed on a seperate solid state drive SSD).
    The storage is 2 x 1.5TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD's
I made sure that both the operating system and Quicktime are both running the most up to date version with all updates.
I would appreciate any feedback/advice on my problem as I would love to be able to use the whole PE7 package.
    many thanks for your assistance.

Thankyou all for all of your responses and advice. I will read all of the additional threads and links that you have pointed out if I haven't already.
To answer some of your questions.
How far do you get when the error message first appears? Do you hit just the "Effects Tab" or "Transition Tab" in Edit Mode, and the error message pops up? Or, do you get as far as selecting a specific transition or a specific effect before the error message pops up? If the latter, which transitions, which effects?
It is immediate. As soon as I click on the "Effects" or "Transition" button in the edit tab the error message pops up. Interestingly though last night I managed to open the "Effects" and apply probably about 3 effects as a test before it crashed out on the 4th trial of an effect. However, the "Transitions" button crashes out immediately when pressed.
Interestingly as well I am able to fade in/out of audio and video by clicking the right mouse button and chosing fade in/out. Not sure if this is part of the transitions part though or a seperate function.
You say that everything else works fine. Could you clarify one point? What happens if you have a Timeline consisting of only photos? Can you apply transitions and effects to them without this issue described for AVCHD on the Timeline?
Hmm...not sure. I have only played with AVCHD video files so far, no stills. Will try it tonight and report back.
Further, if you cut your Timeline content in half, can you then apply transitions and effects to the remaining Timeline? And, it looks like you probably create the Titles toward the end of a project. What happens if you open a new project, create your titles and then bring in your AVCHD to the Timeline? Any more crashes?
Yes I create the titles towards the end of the project. No cannot apply transitions to any part of the timeline. Effects did work briefly as noted above. I will try your suggestion about creating titles before bringing AVCHD files onto the timeline.
So how much available RAM do you actually have when you are running Premiere Elements in the computers' 64 bit system?
Good question. I will check tonight.
thanks again everyone. I test all of the suggestions and do the follow up reading. In the interim please feel free to provide any additional suggestions.

  • Trigger endEffect when effect/transition is repeated?

    Hi,
I've just started developing applications with Adobe Flex 2
    and ActionScript.
Currently I've got some ads, or pictures, rotating.
I want to call a method each time the effect has ended
(endEffect = "{getNextAd()}", but when I repeat the effect the same
picture appears again and again. This would indicate the getNextAd
    only gets called once.
Does anyone know how I should go about it?
I can try to provide some code if you don't understand what
    I'm talking about.
    Thanks!

    Thank you for your reply.
I have tried that already and did once again just to make sure and it runs without error but is not outputting my trace. I am thinking that maybe a "TweenEvent" listener couldn't be used with a transition but there is no error.

  • Creating a cool effect/transition... how to do this?

Trying to think how to do this without any special program like After Effects? It's a transition I suppose, between two shots... I've seen it done a lot to music or to add drama to the cut.
Instead of just cutting straight from ShotA to ShotB, you flash ShotA and ShotB back and forth quickly, finally landing on ShotB. For example, the sequence would be like: ShotA ends - ShotB - ShotA - ShotB - ShotA - ShotB - ShotA - ShotB - ShotA - ShotB - ShotA - ShotB - ShotA - then finish on ShotB as it continues. Each flash might be a percentage of a second long, so the total transition time might total a second or two. Think of a DJ scraping a record back and forward to produce that hip-hop, rap sound.
Obviously it can be done with major amounts of labor manually on the timeline, but I want to know how one easily can create this transition. If it's a pushbutton effect in some piece of software please direct me to the software I should consider which might already have this and other cool effects and transitions that are pre-made?
    Thanks!
Premiere CS3 on a Sony VAIO; Vista; 4G RAM; 2.33GHz Dual Core....

    > Good reason to use the Razor Tool
Right. Maybe it would be easiest to nest it as a muti-camera sequence first, razor, choose A or B.
    You could also...
    1.) place B on a track above A
2.) create two opacity keyframes: one at 100%, one at 0%
3.) Set the interpolation of the keyframes to "Hold"
4.) Copy / paste the two keyframes at intervals to achieve your effect
I think this option is best, as you can easily copy/paste the effect and apply it to other pairs of clips, like a transition.

  • Effects & transition plugins on Mac?

We've been using FxFactory with their stock plugins for several years, effects and transitions for FCP. Unfortunately FxFactory does not yet support PP. So, I'm looking for some good quality 64bit plugins. I"ve googled and found Pixelan, Digieffects, etc. But wondering if anyone has a recommendation. Thanks!

Thanks Jim. I did find that and looked through them a few weeks ago. I was just hoping to get a few recommedations from users.
We don't use a lot of effects, mostly cuts, but it would be nice to have something like FxFactory (not supported in PP). Basically FxFactory is a plugin "engine" for lack of a better word. They are a company that represents many other vendors creating a wide array of plugins. So it made it real easy if I was looking for a specific effect to first look for the plugins they represented. Often that was as far as I needed to go. I really like that concept.
Boris is doing some nice things, so I'll keep my eye out for that when it is supported on the Mac, especially if no one has any more specific thoughts.
    All the best!

  • Can I pin the effects/transition tools or can I move them??

In PE 12, I always add my transition and effects whe  I finish adding things to my timeline. As of now, it seems that when I ad a transition, I have to click on it to open, then click to add, then it closes (and I repeat). Is there anyway to pin these open like the media panel?
Also - these open up right in the middle of the timeline, blocking the area I want to add. Can these be relocated to all that open screen on the upper left or right?
    Thanks!

    chuck
Sorry about that but I have not found favorite transitions an option in Premiere Elements 12.
To be noted...I have not seen that favorite transition option after Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
You can still save an Effects Preset as before. Have you seen that?

  • Audio/effects/transitions/titles from older versions of iMovie

I've discovered that iMovie 3 removed some content that was present in iMovie 2; specifically, the Water Ripple effect, and all the old stock audio clips. Granted, the new audio Skywalker Sound audio clips in iMovie 3 were better, but it'd still be nice to have access to the old ones too. So I have two questions:
Does anyone know if anything else was removed going from iMovie 3->4, 4->5, or 5->6?
Is there a way to get those old audio/effects back into later versions of iMovie? (Maybe a way to upgrade that preserves the older content, sort of like how you can upgrade iDVD 3 to iDVD 4 in order to keep the older iDVD 1 & 2 themes.)
Also another question: once upon a time, available for free download from Apple's website were a bunch of additional iMovie audio clips, background sets, etc. Alas, Apple has proven just as averse to preserving its past as nearly any other corporation: those files have long since been removed. Is there an archive of these anywhere?

Well after a bit of research I discovered that the old effect files can be integrated into later versions of iMovie. Basically what you have to do is right-click iMovie 2 and choose Show Package Contents. For the Water Ripple effect, navigate to Contents->Plug-ins, and copy the file Ripple.bundle, and create a copy of it to ~/Library/iMovie/Plug-ins. For the old stock audio sound effects, go back to the iMovie 2 package contents, navigate to Contents->Resources->Sound Effects, and copy all the files enclosed to ~/Library/iMovie/Sound Effects.
Of course you could always copy these files to the package contents of the later iMovie.app, but this way is a bit less of a "hack". (Oddly though when I tried just that, Ripple.bundle would only work when placed in iMovie->Contents->Plugins, not to be confused with the separate Plug-ins folder that it was stored in within iMovie 2.)
Anyway, hope this info helps somebody out there!

  • Need effect/transition for stills in Premiere Pro

Need an effect to use with stills/slides in Premiere Pro CC. I'd like slides to drift into frame, settle on top of each other and appear to form a pile. These scenes will be intercut with video source.
I'd hate to try reinvent a wheel which may already be out there.
    Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

That is a LOT easier in After Effects.
However, if you put the stills in a different sequence so you can put a little white background around them, you can then use the nested sequence as a slide that can be set to motion with keyframes. And as stated, you can copy and paste the keyframes to get you to the same place each time, then just slightliy adjust the ending location to create the illusion of a pile.
Or, to skip the nested issue, use Photoshop to put the border around the image, perfectly sized for your needs before you bring them into Premiere Pro.
However, if you do use the nested sequences, some of the images can be stills, but then some of them can be video, that can then be set to run normally, within the framed border. Just a thought. Start with one copy that has a hold frame at the begining and then replace it with the running video.
