Effects Window crash

Hi,
I'm running Soundtrack 1.2.1, installed from my Final Cut Express (v3) disk. Also installed are iLife 08 and Final Cut Express v 4.0. Hardware and OS spec as per my profile.
I can launch Soundtrack OK but as soon as I try to open the Effects window it crashes.
I've re-installed Soundtrack, deleted prefs, tried it in another user's account, but it still crashes.
Grateful for any ideas: could it be an old 3rd-party Audio Unit?
H

Answered my own question! Yes, it was a couple of old third-party components which were causing the problem. Removed them and all was well.

I have video placed in a sequence and when I go to the effect browser to click on a effect to drop on it the program thinks for a few seconds and then quits. I tried dumping the pref files in the pref folder and it did not work. is there a different method I should try?

#44: FCP acting weird - Trash Prefs
Shane's Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should
If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at http://www.fcprescue.com and run it.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

  • After Effects Immediately Crashes Each Time I Open It

Every time I try opening After Effects on my computer, it goes through loading the title screen, but as soon as the window for the program opens up, it crashes with no error. I've tried all of the error tutorials and even Downloaded Adobe Support Advisor, but still I'm not seeing any errors being reported. The program just stops running no matter what I try. I am using a 64-bit Windows 7 machine with enough RAM to support this. So idea what it could be. I also have the most up to date patch installed.

    Any thoughts or ideas?

So I haven't installed any third-party plug-ins for After Effects, since I have never gotten it to open since downloading it. Is that what you're talking about? I have the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite and none of them have any plugins except for Photoshop which has a few additional brush sets added.
I also have my firewall and antivirus turned off and I tried uninstalling it and re-installing it. But After Effects still doesn't work.
The only thing I am thinking is my computer has a i7 core, so it has an integrated video card. But then on top of that I have a GeForce GT 540M video card. I've tried checking the BIOS of my computer and it seems like it only uses the GeForce GT 540M as the video card. But maybe that integrated video card could still be giving me a problem?
This could also be a useful tidbit. About a year ago I had tried installing Photoshop CS5 64 bit and it kept not working, so I installed the 32 bit and it worked perfectly. To make matters more confusing though, I have the Fireworks CS6 64-bit version on my computer and it works perfectly. So it could be that certain 64-bit programs have an issue.
Any other info that I can provide that would hep? Thanks so much everyone!

I've never had this problem before and hope that someone has a solution to this problem... if so please post an answer. I don't know if its because i put the plug in on all of my clips and then made an adjustment layer with another Magic Bullet Looks or if it's my clips fault but i just dont know what to do.
    -Tyler

It sounds like Looks is only crashing on this project. If that is so then it's most likely a problem with one of your video clips. Either there's a corrupted frame or some other codec glitch that's throwing the errors. I'd suggest replacing footage items with temporary footage. You could even use solids. Replace one at a time, then undo, until you find the footage that's causing the crash. Then either re-compress that footage to another codec or replace it.
If Looks is crashing on every type of footage then you need to pursue other options that are more system related.

  • After effects has crashed see error repor 1.   :41

hi okay on one of my computers i go to open after effects and it says after effects has crashed please see error report error 1 then later :41 then i go to uninstal it and it loads and stops it wont uninstal. please help.

how you doing guys, i hope you have solved your problem,if not this is how i solve it most of the time...
we all like fonts... alot.. sometimes we like it so much that we install every font we find kool, but after effects has a little bit of problem
caching most of those kool fonts ( i have 3,037 ).
what i did was booting my pc using HIREN'S BOOT CD in mini windows xp, download or if you have a backup of the basic xp fonts ( like me )
go to your windows folder in c: and cut and move the font folder to other drive and replace it with the basic one, reboot and voila! it worked
    hope it helps. ;-)

This was rendering a 4K video (4096x2304) with H264 compression.  I think I had around a GB of free virtual memory.  Is it just that it needs more memory - do I just need to increase the virutal memory - would increasing it by a GB or so fix it?  It's currently 3616 MB.
    Current PC:
    After Effects CS4
    Windows Vista
    4 GB RAM
3616 MB page file (according to performance options).

Is it just that it needs more memory - do I just need to increase the virutal memory - would increasing it by a GB or so fix it?
No. Not at all. The error is prety clear, actually:
    w:1374.00000 h:533.00000
These are not valid dimensions for any MPEG-based output, since they need to be multiples of 2,4,8,16 and so on. Now I'm sure you set up the actual render correctly, but that info is coming from somewhere, so check if not a specific plug-in is causing this or your source footage may be damaged...

  • After Effects error: crash occured when invoking...

I get this error: After Effects error: crash occured when invoking rendering plugin "AE_openGL" when I have videos on the timeline and I am scrolling through them.
I run Windows Prof 7, 2.67 gigahertz Intel Core i7 920 Multi-core (4 total), 12 GBs Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (2x).  My system is fast.  I saw one suggestion to turn off openGL. How should I set up my preferences to avoid this?
    Thanks.

OpenGL should work even with SLI off. Yes, you lose some performance, but for AE's limited use of these features, it should be neglectible. If for some reason you still get crashes, then you may need to push a few otehr knobs and levers in the driver settings or install a new7 different driver right away. i just cannot offer you a blanket solution that would work from a distance. OpenGL settings are delicate, so you'll have to invest some time in your own experimentation...

  • Adobe After Effects CS3 crashes with Codecs such as Motion JPEG and Avid DnxHD

    Hey guys, I'm new here
I'm having a problem with After Effects CS3 crashing with .mov files (exported from Adobe Premiere) with codecs such as Motion Jpeg A and Avid's DnxHD. Its driving me crazy.
If I import a Motion Jpeg A file, AE crashes immediately. If I import a DnxHD file that works fine with Premiere, it seems to import ok. However, when I try to play it in AE it comes up as a plain white... thing. If I move the slider across it previews one or two frames before AE crashes. Its driving me crazy.
AE works ok with H.164 and animation files.
I'm reinstalled quicktime and Avids codecs, uninstalled ffdshow, disabled Open GL and multiprocessing, changed between 10bit and 8bit (whatever that is all about) with the dnxhd and I'm really stumped. If I can get Dnxhd working I'm fine with that. I thought I'd mention the Motion Jpeg A codec to see if they're a result of the same problem.
I've also tried Avid's RGB packed Codec with the same results.
I'm running Windows Xp 32 bit with 3gbs of ram, a GeForce 8600 gt with a Intel Pentium Duo Core Processor 2.00 GHZ.
    Can anyone help me please?

I'm mistaken, Animation files don't work either!
I tried that with no luck. I even tried a few more Quicktime codecs with the same results.
Only H.164 and some png compressed .mov files seem to work. Very frustrating.
I'm surprised thats the case - I am defintley due for an upgrade. Even though this system seems to work ok, struggling a little bit with HD .mov files but yeah, I've been planning a new system for a while.
