Efficasoft GPS Utilities Problem (5800)

I used the GPS Utilities on my old N91 and was quite pleased with it and now want to load a new version onto my new 5800. The demo version loads and runs but none of the setup options are 'clickable' which means that I cannot change the default settings.
Efficasoft are not replying to my emails so I wondered if anybody else had downloaded this software to a 5800 and had a similiar problem? Don't want to purchase if this problem exists on the registered product.

GPS Utilities is designed for S60v3 phones. The 5800 is a S60v5 phone. Some things may work, but you may have to wait for an update.

E52 internal GPS fix problem only with OVI Maps

Hi all,
I read many many E52 phones suffer Internal GPS fix problems.
I don't beleve this is an hardware problem, but only a software bug.
My experiments say this:
1) Start phone, start Ovi Maps -> No lock at all. (only 1 blinking line in bottom left corner)
2) Start phone, start McGuider (Sygic) navigator -> E52 locks quite immedeately. (in the same place!!)
3) After GPS is locked, start Ovi Maps again. Now also Maps works great!
4) Also the gps built-in application under Menu->Applications->GPS->GPS Data has the same behaviour as Ovi Maps.
Anyone can try and report this or similar experience?

Yes, you have to pay, but the connection takes about 20sec. About Sygic you're right I noticed that too. It locks pretty fast.

GPS Fix problem

Hi all,
I'm a developer for IGN France, I develop an app in Qt which uses Location API.
I really don't understand the GPS on the 5800 XpressMusic.
I explain, when I'm using the GPS, the first fix takes several time (10 to 20min), for the first fix, I know that's normal.
But if I turn off the GPS for 20min, the next fix take 10 to 20 min but not everytime...
And that happen with a clear sky, without any cloud...
All is done without the A-GPS activated because my app will be used in some place that you can't use A-GPS.
So why,for the second fix, it takes so long sometime and sometime it's very fast ?
Is there a config file which store some informations like others devices ?
Or all my customer must use A-GPS everytime they need the location ?

When the phone has a clear satellite signal it starts caching ephemeris data. This information will speed up future GPS locks, but the data expires relatively quickly (hence the name).

Problem with GPS on Nokia 5800

Some days back i had big problem in getting GPS work to get my current location. I followed some intsturctions provided by one of the forum members and it seems to have worked.
Now the problem is, even when i am in the open area where satellite status shows more than 5 available, i am unable to get a lock on my current position. Instead i get "GPS works poorly on indoors..." message. My mobile is still under warranty. Should i need to go and check with Nokia Care center? or is this could a confiugration problem?
i have Assisted, Network and integrated enabled and have GPRS enabled.
Any help would be realy apprecieated
Not to mention, i am on 4x firmware with latest Maps software and also have downloaded India Maps using maps downloader

This message sounds as if device can't communicate with the "Positioning server" so I would check that it is "supl.nokia.com" and confirm in Destinations > Internet that your desired network access point is prioritized.
Latest Nokia Maps v3.04Beta also utilizes an additional positioning method, Wi-fi/Network to speed up positional fix especially indoors as per screenshot:http://i43.tinypic.com/2mrcq68.jpg

GPS Problem 5800

I bought nokia 5800 xm 10 days ago , GPA was working fine and I get good signal indoor and outdoor
Then it stop working !
I need to restart the phone, the GPS works fine for one day and then I need to restart again.
Nothing change but I downloaded a lot of applications from ovi store.
How can I fix that?

I think that isn't good for mobile to install lots of apps.Uninstall some of them.
Also, isn't good to install more than 5 apps at one day (i think).

I have proble with GPS , After update my phone this service was working and I do some change in internet setting in my phone becase it was log to net with auto way so I change the access point to wrong number to disconnect to net with auto way

Go to Maps-->Spanner Icon-->Internet-->Connection...set to OFFLINE
Also.. Menu-->Applications-->Location-->Positioning-->Positioning Methods.. select ONLY integrated GPS
BTW to prevent auto connection to Internet..
Menu-->Settings-->connectivity-->Admin Settings-->Packet Data-->Packat Data connection...set to When Needed
..and also..
Menu-->Settings-->Connectivity-->Destinations-->Internet.. select the Access Point-->Use Acces Point (At extreme bottom).. set to After Confirmation..

Problem with GPS in Nokia 5800

I'm in Nokia Maps, I click in "my position" and it shows me the red dot in south of Portugal (Algarve). Well, that would be cool if I were there, but I'm not! I'm in the north (Braga). I want to connect via sattelite and not via internet, cause I want to use it when I'm driving. Can somebody help me?

If you won't give the Assisted GPS feature a network internet connection albeit to download 7 kb of data then your first fix is going to take longer to achieve and would suggest you go outside away from tall buildings preferably with clear view of sky.
The position achieved using the Network GPS (cell tower location) can sometimes be well off the mark unfortunately but not usually by that much and then you will get a "Black ring" around the centre when locked on to position at which time you will see next to satellite icon green bars instead of yellow.

No more fast GPS fix with 5800 XM v40.0.005 using ...

Hi to all,
I'm so diappointed to have losen one of the best strength of my nokia 5800 XM (fast GPS fix thanks to A-GPS function).
Indeed, it's now inconceivable to hope a GPS fix before 5 or 10 minutes while staying at the same place. Thus, we lose all the interest of the GPS driving through a city !!!!
I tried soft and hard reset but nothing seems to be helpful, i'm now convinced the problem is due to the firmware (v40.0.005 but I already had this problem in v31.0.101).
Unfortunately the new Ovi Maps version didn't either solve the problem...
Could you give your feedbacks on the problem or explain me how the problem might be resolved ?

would be a hardware problem rather than firmware .
Take phone to a Nokia Care Centre or you could try wiping the phone and memory card and starting from a clean install .

The problem - GPS fix is taking (sometimes) very long periods from 1 - 5 hours or in same cases it does not make a GPS fix. Other times (about 25% of tries) it calculates GPS fix in a few minutes (1-15min).
I use the GPS only outdoors within open sky and hill/forest (not in urban, tall buildings). Usualy is clear sky or clouds, but not storms.
The Satellite info page displays me the satelite signals, and usually I have about 6-11 satelites bars and from them about 4-7 with more then 75% signal.It is very frustrating to have gps satelite signal and not have a gps fix. This is obvios a software related problem not a weak gps signal.
DOES anybody had this issue and know how to solve it? I suspect a firmware bug... but I dont really know.

My new 5230 takes ages to get a GPS fix. Nokia suggested the following. It seems to have given me route not found errors but I'm still testing. I reproduce Nokia's suggestion here it case it helps you...
We understand that you are having some issues with the GPS function of your Nokia 5230. In response to your concern, may we recommend that you power cycle your phone. Please follow the stepls below:
1. While your phone is switched on, remove the battery.
2. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
3. Put the battery back in.
4. Turn your phone back on.
After you have performed the steps mentioned above, kindly perform a soft reset on your device.
To perform a soft reset, please follow the steps below. Please note that this will restore your phone's settings and will not delete any data.
1. Go to your phone's main screen and press *#7780#.
2. You will be prompted to restore the factory settings and it will ask for a lock code. If you have not changed the code, the default is 12345.
3. Your phone will automatically restart after pressing the code.

GPS charges on 5800???

Hi, I have just installed a 16 day free trial of Viewranger on my 5800 for use when I am out Mountain Biking to log my route and use as a map. Obviously for this to be effective, I have to have the GPS running. What I want to know because 02 CAN NOT give a guarenteed answer is, will I get charged for having the GPS running while I am out on a ride for about 2 hours? I have unlimited internet (browsing, 02 active) if that makes any difference?

Assisted GPS feature only needs to download 2-5 kbs of data for a positional fix, so can't you check in phone log the amount of data downloaded in say 30 minutes and I am sure that you will find it negligible. As "grschinon" has mentioned o2 can't discriminate what type of data you are downloading and you could always disable "Assisted GPS" feature in "Positioning methods" as ViewRanger doesn't need internet connection unless you are utilizing Buddy Beacon"

HP 2610 All in One Utilities Problem

Hi, I've got a problem with my HP 2610 All in One Printer. I'm trying to clean the cartridges/check the ink levels etc, and normally I would have done this by choosing the printer from the System Preferences printer section, but when I click the Utilities icon, an error message says that the printer was not turned on or connected.
I've uninstalled the software, reinstalled the basic printer driver, but the problem still persists. It won't show me any ink levels, allow me to clean, align etc because of the fact the Mac thinks the printer is turned off, despite the fact that I can print to it.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I also tried plugging the USB cable into the actual computer rather than the keyboard, but it had the same effect.

N80 and GPS pairing problem

I have a BT GPS module (Holux M-1000B) and when I pair it for the first time with my N80 it works ok as long as I don't disconnect it. But if I stop using it (for example if I stop in Sports Tracker) I have to remove the pairing to reconnect. I've tried everything and the only way to reconnect is to remove the pairing and pair them again and that is pretty annoying.
Is this a known problem with other GPS modules also or is it with this one? It works perfectly with my laptop, but I haven't tried using it with other mobiles.

If it is of any help I notice that Nokia Maps application is now available for the N80, which has not been supported since Smart2Go beta version was withdrawn:

As N80 firmware has now reached end of development, you would expect that this application has been tested with last software release in the circumstances.

Email problems 5800

I recently purchased the 5800 and i'm trying to set up email accounts using the downloaded app from ovi store,the one that says you can set up 10 accounts..but when i try to set up an account it just says contacting email server for AGES after entering my username and password been like that for about an hour now with no sign of logging in,can anyone help?

I think the problem is related to setting the retrival amount, if I set it to all, it does not get new messages. I can of course just set it to a high number but the highest is 999...

GPS movement problem

when i drive on the freeway using gps ( holding the iphone upright ) the maps is upside down. so i have to turn the iphone upside down. How to fix this without turning my iphone upside down ?

When your settings are..Positioning Method : Integrated GPS and In Maps menu (Spanner Icon) to OFFLINE Mode... for GPS to work.. you have to go in an area open to sky.. and wait for anything between 5 and 25 minutes to get the GPS Lock. Once you get 'My Location' to work.. you will not have any problem navigating..
The GPS Lock time depends on your Location and environment.. If you are in a building or Tunnel, under a tall tree or area surrounded by highrise buildings the GPS Lock will take considerably longer time.or may not work at all. Even cloudy / rainy weather will hamper the signals to get the GPS Lock longer time..
If you want a quicker GPS Lock.. you should use the A-GPS positioning method and ONLINE Mode .. but it will make use of Network connection and can be expensive...
So.. go in in open space.. wait .. and enjoy the GPS..

Nokia 6120C GPS NavFunPro problems

Hi All, I recenly purchased a Bluetooth G66 Touch GPS for use with my Nokia 6120C. I also purchased the NavFunPro for use with it as well. When I run the NavFunPro I keep getting an error, " All servers are down, which I guess means it cant connect to Google Maps. It then asks fo NavPro to use connectivity apps. It then locates my BT GPS but ther are no maps displayed on the screen, just the Compass and the Bearings with a display saying "Loading......". In the top right hand corner there are 2 icons one appears to be a satellite dish and the other has a red cross through it which I guess is where the problem lies. I would appreciate any help I can get. Regards Steve
