Eh...I think I broke it!

Okay, I was just skimming through a bunch of songs before my battery died and then the songs stopped playing. I went back to the main menu and after that I couldn't do anything. The screen doesn't change no matter what I do. I tried plugging it into my computer hoping it'd do something, sure enough...it didn't. If there's anyway someone could tell me what to do to fix it, that'd 0..be GREAT!!!

You may simply need to let it charge for a little while before it'll turn on.
Failing that, have you tried holding the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset the iPod?

  • Iphoto--I think I broke it

I just purchased the macbook with iphoto 6 and have never used iphoto before. I copied some of my pictures folders from my windows machine to the pictures folder. I then imported them into iphoto. I didn't know it would put everything into the library sorted by years and the last roll folder. I wanted the folders sorted the way I had them in the pictures folder. So, I proceeded to delete all 800 pictures by holding the delete key. Iphoto crashed three times while doing this. I then imported one folder and attempted to drag and drop the pictures into some albums I created in the source pane. Drag and drop wouldn't move the pictures. I restarted my computer and drag and drop started working but now select all does not select anything. I am selecting the last roll, clicking edit so the thumbnails appear then attempting to select all the thumbnails but select all only selects one picture. I tried shift-clicking to select a group of them. When I drag and drop it says I'm moving however many I have selected but when I click on the album I'm moving the pictures to, only one or two pictures have been moved. I tried rebuilding the photo library but that didn't solve the problem.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I don't think you broke iPhoto, but have you
considered using the Help at all?
    1. To duplicate your folder structure in iPhoto,
simply drag the folders to the Source (or left-hand)
pane in iPhoto. There they will be automatically
saved into Albums. If you start at the bottom of your
folder structure, you can create the enclosing
    folders in iPhoto.
    2. When you tried to remove the 800 photos by using
the delete key - well it might have been better to
seclect them and move them to the iPhoto trash. Then
got to the iPhoto menu and empty the trash.
Now your photos are removed from iPhoto and the
    iPhoto library folder.
    3. When you're trying to operate drag and drop and
select, first make sure your in the library, not in
an album or smart album. Is it possible that you were
trying to drag the photos into a place they already
    were?
I have used help extensively but can't find the answer to my questions.
No, not possible. I'm in the library attempting to select multiple photos and drag and drop into an album. I can drop them one at a time but I can't select all nor is it moving the number of photos indicated. For example, I selected 8 photos, dragged them to an album. A +8 appeared as I dragged the pictures but when I looked at the album there were only three pictures there.

  • I think I broke my CD drive...

Broken Cd drive + finals week approaching=not good
    Here's the deal:
I was ejecting a Cd, and I think something was blocking it, so it could not get out. There was a loud clicking noise.
Now, the cd drive does not take cds. I am able to insert them, but usually it "takes" the cd without me having to push it all the way in. Now it doesn't "take" cd's, and everytime I turn on my computer, there is an awful clicking noise in the disk drive. If I manually push a disk all the way in, the drive will not eject it unless I restart and hold down the eject key.
I seriously doubt it's something I can fix myself, and it's probably really expensive to replace a drive.
Does anyone know how much it costs? Would it be cheaper to buy an external burner?
I know someone will ask, so I will say it now - No, I do not have applecare or any sort of warranty to my knowledge. I bought this computer used on Ebay, but it's been wonderful until now.
    I can't believe I broke my drive
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #88275 on Troubleshooting the slot load disc drive (Portables). I don't know how much it will cost because we don't know what happened. The only people who can really tell you how much it is going to cost you is an Apple Certified Technician from your local Apple Store/Reseller.
Buying a external burner will probably be cheaper then having it replaced.

Couple of things to try. Can you boot off the net or CD/DVD ? I noticed that you have disk and disk0 to be same. You mention that you mirrored root. Do you know what the other disk was ? If so you can try booting the other disk.

  • Going insane - I think I broke my system!

I'm totally freaking out right now. I was resizing my partition via GParted on SystemRescueCD and I think I deleted everything on my Linux partition when I accidentally cancelled! Oh my gosh I need that stuff (I don't have an external backup!). My dad has all his students' things on there he needs.
How can I fix this? Grub gives me like error 2 or something. I'm on a Puppy livecd at the moment. I'm freaking out more than I can ever remember freaking out. Please help if you can!
    (Kubuntu 7.10, gnome installed too)

sajro, that sounds awful... Anyway, I have never heard of anyone cancelling a resize (not that I've heard that much, so don't read too much into that), so I have no idea in what state a system like yours could have ended up in. If you're lucky (well...) only the partition table was killed. Maybe TestDisk can do something for you? Or Foremost. I have never used these tools myself, but have heard good things about them. For instance, recently there was a thread where an unfortunate dd command was rectified with TestDisk. Before you start fiddling with these tools, it is important to make a complete copy of the ruined disk, in case you fail on your first try to fix it.

  • I think I broke my mini

I decided to install Linux (PC Linux OS) along side Mac OS X because... I wanted to. I booted my mac mini into a PCLOS live CD and installed it on an external firewire drive. When it was done installing it said something about doing something to a bootloader, which is where i think the problem lies. When I shut down my computer the PCLOS disc ejected, and when I turned it on i got a flashing "?" mark on a folder, meaning my mac wont boot from its internal HDD. I put in my OSX install disc and formatted the internal HDD and then reinstalled OSX, but it still wont boot into OSX. Also now the OSX disc wont come out.
Now I really don't care about installing PCLOS on this machine. Can any one help me get my OSX back? Please?
    -Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi
I would try smc and pram first, if won't help then start from Leopard install disc and go Disc Utility. There you can format the HD in zeros and then install os again. It may be helpful:

  • Help. I think I broke my Muse...

Good morning! In my attempt to set up my domain this morning, I broke my site. Earlier, I had changed my Adobe ID info, now Muse doesn't recognize my site when uploading it, nor to I have access to my BC dashboard or am I able to directly login through the browser. Any help would be fantastic.

    Hi,
I got your email and I have made some changes in the backend after which, when I logged into Muse, using the [email protected] and tried to publish and this what I got,
I didn't try to publish anything as that would change the site content. Please try to publish and let me know if that works.
Alternatively, try to deactivate and re-activate Muse from the Help menu and post any queries or the error that you get, if possible with the screen shots.

  • Soooo I think I broke my iphone...

Okay so about seven months ago I dropped my iphone 4 off a carnival ride (clever, I know) and it completely smashed the back. I lived with it until about a month ago when I paid $120 to replace the front and back screens as well as the jammed power button. I didn't have the money to buy a new phone mid-plan. Everything was fine, I even paid $60 for an Otterbox so my phone would be more well protected. And suddenly about a week ago the light on my iphone wouldn't go off. I did everything I could and nothing worked. The phone overheated and then shut off. Now it only turns on when plugged in and it says "searching..." and can't find the service. It also thinks it's 7:01 pm on Wednesday December 31st. It shuts off and turns back on again every few minutes. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I have no warranty and I don't get an upgrade until May. My dad is taking the next upgrade even though my phone is already two years old. Am I just out of luck or...? I need to know, I really don't have any other way of communicating. Thanks.

Your iPhone got smashed (and most likely damaged) and then it got serviced six months later by an unauthorized service provider. What did you expect to happen?
    Your phone is useless.

  • I think I broke my iChat ...

I installed iChat Extender to just see what it would do (and didn't back up iChat ... yes yes). Now even after several tips that I found in this forum as well as on MacOSXhints.com I cannot return my iChat to its previous functionality ... I'd prefer not to reinstall the system to fix this.
Choosing Current iTunes Track from the Buddy List window does just that ... shows the correct track and title, etc. Choosing it, however, from the menubar gives me %Track - %Album. Now, I've attempted fixing this in the Terminal by doing this:
defaults write com.apple.iChatAgent iTunesMessageFormat -string 'iTunes: %Track'
    killall iChatAgent
... but alas ... I still get the same %Track - %Album as my available message when I choose from the menu bar.
Tips? I'd like to get this back to normal.

    Hi Ross,
Have you unistalled or trashed all the bits to Chat Extender ?
It sounds like part of it is still active.
If part of the Add-on is still active then reinstalling the application which can be done will not cure the problem.
Yep. I've done it by hand and by using AppZapper ... all seems to be gone.
There is no "Uninstall" option as it is simply an app bundle that when run tosses some extra stuff in the Application Support folder. I've deleted the app bundle, the folder in Application Support as well as the .plist ... still getting issues.
I don't think uninstalling it is the issue.
When iChat Extender makes the changes to iChat it overwrites some stuff within the iChat application. Yes, the developer of the iChat Extender software says that you should make a backup ... which of course, I didn't. So ... I'm really looking for what iChat should be set back to.
Based upon what I put in the original post, it seems that the necessary things had been addressed with the changes in the Terminal ... however, in action, it seems not.
    Tips?

You typed it, I presume? It should be hd, not hda, and uuid, not unid. Must've been a pain retyping with those random chars :-)
Booting with kernel-fallback.img instead of kernel.img didn't help?
I don't know your partitioning scheme, but I suppose installer should get everything right. I see three possibilities: there's a bug in the installer, you made some mess while trying to leave vi or it's some Virtualbox issue - but I don't recall people ever mentioning anything like that.
In case you really did some bad things while trying to leave vi, I'd suggest reinstalling - it takes but a few minutes and would be easier than fixing it, considering your apparent level of expertise. Don't worry, stay with Arch a bit and you'll know how to tackle all kinds of issues.
Welcome to Arch, by the way.

  • Think Ive broke it :-(

    Hi,
I have just downloaded the latest version of iTunes, but its telling me I have new hardware and I need a disc to install it ??
When I open iTunes it wont play anything. Everything is still there it just will not play
Been messing with this for two days now and Im getting quite cross.
    Thanks

You could try deleting the device with the question mark, then right-clicking on the Computer icon and clicking Scan for hardware changes. This should give the system the chance to locate the correct driver for the hardware in question again. If that doesn't work use system restore to go back three days to the moment before you installed the update to iTunes (which should resolve the hardware issue) then re-run the iTunes installation. Choose the repair option if offered.

  • I accidentally dropped my mac and I think I broke the LCD. How much would I have to pay with warranty?

How much would I have to pay to get it fix with warranty?

The cost varies depending on where you go to get it fixed and how much damage was done, but neither the warranty nor extended AppleCare covers that in any case.

  • Think I broke Windows MBR.

    Before I start, I'm on a iMac 27' late 2013.
After trying to fix a 'non-genuine' Windows message, I cannot boot into Windows 7 anymore. From what I have researched so far, they said that the 'fix' messed up the MBR, and that I needed to run the bootrec commands to fix it. I created a windows installation USB drive using the Bootcamp Assistant, only to find my keyboard and mouse not working in the installation screen.
It does let me select 'Windows' during startup, but am only presented with a blinking cursor for a couple of seconds before it restarts.
It does not show up in the 'Startup Disk' utility.
I've pasted the results of the commands that Loner T has suggested other people with similar problems.

  • Help.Malfunction on application updates...I think I broke my phone

Hello I was re-installing the blackberry desktop manager and then I click on the updates when the installation was finish, so it started to update when I noticed that it was erasing something (I thought it was erasing the things that I put on my phone), so I clicked on cancel..It continued and did not stop right away. Then I got an error message. Now my phone will not turn on. I took the battery out and put it back in and I'm getting this small circle image with a line going through it (like a restriction sign with a box in it that has a circle, square and triangle and the numbers 507 to the bottom). Is there anyway that I can fix this? Please help me I just got this phone earlier this year.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Your Blackberry needs to have the operating system restored. Once restored you can use your latest backup to restore settings and data. The attached links will step you through the procedure
Please tell us what model Blackberry you own, what device OS and what version of desktop manager you were using. We can help you download any software and user manuals you may need. We can then move this thread to the proper forum for the best advice.
    Thanks,
