EHP4 ACT_UPG phase taking a really long time

I'm still working on the EHP4 installation and for some reason the ACT_UPG phase in Step 5 - Pre-Processing, is taking a really long time, currently 7 hours and counting. This phase apparently "Activates ABAP Dictionary Customer Objects". I didn't think we had that many (relatively), in our system.
Just wondering how long this phase took for those of you who have gone through implementing EHP4? I'm running SQL 2005 on W2K3 all 64-bit on fairly decent hardware.

Hi,
Usuall Preprocessing phase takes very long time...
But there are few steps which can increase the performence,...
1) Depends upon how many parallel R3trans processes you have taken during configuration phase...
2) Also, you can increase performence by changing some memory parameter in shadow system...For this run RSMEMORY program in SE38 then it will show you some parameter you can increase the moemory according to your hardware...
3) Also, it will be good if you increase parameter db_cache_size in your database....

Render taking a really long time

I have a 1.33 GHz iBook with 1.5 gigs of ram and I am running Final Cut Pro 4.5. I am getting ridiculous render times for very short clips. What is the problem? Is my processor too slow? I already put as much ram as my iBook can take into it. Help is appreciated.

First, as Tom says, sequence settings must match footage settings or everything you put in the timeline will need to render. Is that what is happening?
Tell us what it is that needs rendering. If you are adding complex filters, more time will be needed to render.
RAM has very little to do with render times. Processor speed is what really makes a difference.

First try a utility like YASU or Cocktail to clean up caches and logs as well as basic disk maintenance.

External hard drive taking really long time to reformat

I'm reformatting a Seagate 2TB external hard drive that connects using USB 3.0 to my 2014 Macbook Pro (OS X 10.9.4).
For some idiotic reason (because I had never used it before and wanted to see what happened), when I went to reformat the drive in Disk Utility from FAT32 into 'Mac OS Journaled (Extended)' I selected the option for "7 Pass Secure Erase". It initially told me it should take "1 day, 7 hours", which seemed like a lot but was consistent with what other Support Communities people have said for such a large drive.
It's now been reformatting for 20 hours, and the estimated time remaining says "1 day, 1 hour". The progress bar has moved and it says it's on pass #3, but this seems like it's taking an abnormally long time. Has something gone wrong? For reference, I did a 1-pass into reformat into FAT32 on a similar 1TB external and it only took me around 20 minutes (so I estimated the new one would take ~5 hours (20 * ~2X storage space, 7 passes). I know "estimated time" on a computer always defies the laws of mathematics, but if "6 hours" is actually 20 hours, will I really be waiting for another 80 hours? Can I do anything to speed this up?
More importantly, can I stop the reformat and try it a gain with 1-pass, now that I've initiated the idiot way of doing it? I don't want to screw the drive up or make it unreadable, it's brand new, but I don't want to have to leave my laptop on for the next 3 and a half days.

I don't know which Seagate external you're using but my experience with a number of GoFlex externals has been that very little thought was given to ventilation, and, as a result, the drives tended to overheat. Watching the transfer rate using Activity Monitor during normal backup use, I found that after running a while and getting hot, the transfer rate went from MB's to KB's/sec. You're not actually transferring anything but the drive is being written to, so I'd expect the write speed to drop and what is already going to be a long process will just get longer. Sorry.

ECC6 upgrade phase XPRAS_UPG running for long time

I am performing a Downtime minimized upgrade (MODPROF_TRANS) from R34.7ext2 to ECC6.0 / Windows2003/MSSQL2005
Currently i am in the phase XPRAS_UPG .It is running for really long time.I tried to reset the phase but still went on for more than 10 hrs. I initialized the phase now its running for more than 7 hours. There are no processes when i check in SM50 and no log files updated. There is no log file called XPRAS_UPG.ELG.SM37 no jobs running.
Though if it takes long time , How do i confirm that my upgrade phase is running ??????????as its not updating anything
In PARDIST_SHD phase when there was en error , i have manuall deleted the DB trigger acording to the note 956198. And the phase went on.
Now after reading few messages reg this error , i checked DB02 but no locks on any table . Have cheked note 558197,1292069,1142410,1138351,1062559,597885,551298. But nothings applicable in my case.
Please suggest ...

Regarding long runtime for XPRAS phase kindly note the following:
1. The reason of slow performance of XPRAS phase can vary differently.
Basically during XPRAS phase, there're a lot of reports to run. These
reports are inlcuded in the transport requests(both upgrade
requests and support packages). If there's a performance problem,
it very likely the database performance problem, such as wrong
access plan was chosen, or missing index, etc.
2. To find out the performance problems in the XPRAS, you can always
logon into the system. During the XPRAS phase, the system has to be up and running.
In SM50, usually you can find which report is running, and/or which table is being accessed.
If you find some table accesses take unusually long time, please
record the table name and find the SQL statement. Sometimes a simple
index can solve the problem, sometimes you need help from Oracle
to get the solution.
3. If you want to shorten the downtime, you can select less support
packages since all SPs have a lot of reports to run in XPRAS. But
remember you need to import them soon or later. But if you prefer
import them later it's fine.
Currently if you check in SM37 then you can see RDDEXECL job in active status.
Check for the job log, if there are any errors reported?
Thereafter check the SM50 and see if its taking unusually long time for some particular table.
If so then it might be because you might have not updated the statistics for that particular table.
Also check what was the parameter value of Number of batch processes defined by you
for upgrade. If you have defined very less number of batch processes for upgrade then also
it will take more time.
Check accordingly and let me know for further help.

TDMS Shell - DB Export from source/sender system taking a VERY long time

We're trying to build a TDMS Receiver system using the TDMS Shell technique. We've run into a situation wherein the initial DB Export from source/sender system is taking a VERY long time.
We are on ECC 6.0, running on AIX 6.1 and DB UDB v9.7. We're executing the DB export from sapinst, per instructions. Our DB export parallelizes, then the parallel processes one by one whittle away to just one remaining, and there we find out that the export is at that point single-threaded, and exporting table BSIS.
BSIS is an FI transactional data table. We're wondering why is the DB export trying to get BSIS and its contents out??? Isn't the DB export in TDMS Shell technique only supposed to get SAP essential only config and master data, and NOT transactional data?
Our BSIS table is nearly 700 GB in size by itself. That export has been running for nearly a week now, with no end in site.
What are we doing wrong? We suspect we may have missed something, but really don't think we do. We also suspect that the EXCLUSION table in the TDMS Shell technique may be the KEY to this whole thing. It's supposed to automatically exclude very large tables, but in this case, it most certainly missed out in excluding BSIS for some reason.
Anyway, we're probably going to fire up an OSS Message with SAP Support to help us address this perplexing issue. Just thought we'd throw it out there to the board to see if anyone else somewhere has run into similar circumstances and challenges. In the meantime, any feedback and/or advice would be dearly appreciated. Cheers,

Dont be bothered by the other TPL file DDLDB6_LRG.TPL, we are only concerned with DDLDB6.TPl.
Answer following questions to help me analyze the situation -
1) What is the current size of export dump
2) Since when is the exports running
3) What is the size of the source DB? Do you have huge amount of custom developments?
4) Did you try to use table splitting?
5) Do you doubt that there may be other transaction tables (like BSIS) which have been exported completely?
6) Did you update the SAP Kernel of your source system to latest version before starting the Shell package?
7) Were the DB statistics update during the shell or were they already updated before starting Shell?
8) Is your system a distributed system i.e. Central instance and Database instance are on different application servers?

BB10 security wipe on a Q10 is taking a VERY long time.

I am running a security wipe on a Q10.. It's been going for over an hour. I've read it can take around 15 minutes but this is ridiculous.. I don't think it's working. The phone was only a few days old and has had very little use. I was about to pull the battery when I read that that will cause the software to be reloaded. The screen just has a swirly timer going around and what looks more like a printer icon. Any ideas what to do? I don't have much confidence it's going to finish, it feels like a bug.

I can find others with a similar problem, but no solution. Maybe someone here can help? I preformed a security wipe last night at approximately 10pm. I did this because I realised I’d used 7.8GB of my 8GB limit and it was affecting the phone’s performance – specifically, I couldn’t get the hub to load. I use my phone for social media, emails and messaging only, and with my contacts saved elsewhere I’m not concerned about having to set the phone up again. Because of that, I selected to wipe everything besides the security option, which was greyed out and couldn’t be selected. The wipe was successfully processed, my phone automatically shut down and restarted, and the sim/USB looking load image appeared with a small, revolving circle beneath it. Having performed a security wipe before I know it can take a few hours, so I went to bed. It’s now 1:30pm the next day and the security wipe still hasn’t completed. I’ve read various accounts of the wipe taking between 2-4 hours, but nothing about it taking this long. I’m concerned that, although the circle is still revolving, the wipe has crashed somehow and I have no way of booting or cancelling the wipe. I’ve restarted the phone once to no effect – the same load screen appears following the Blackberry icon. I do wonder whether this effectively restarted the wipe causing a further delay, as I did it at approximately 7am and my phone is hot to touch, suggesting it's doing something at least. A lot of people suggest taking the battery out to force a reboot, but unfortunately as this is a Q10 (and unless I’m missing something) that’s not an option: the battery’s not accessible. Does anyone know what I can do? Is there a fancy way of restoring to factory settings? I was wondering whether there’s a pin-hole-esque reset anywhere? I honestly don’t mind starting from scratch; I just want my phone back! I’m going to wait for tomorrow until I do anything in case the wipe is just taking a really (really) long time. I’d just like to know in advance if there’s another solution. I would prefer to find the solution myself rather than going to my provider, who will probably leave me totally phoneless for weeks! So: how do I reboot/cancel the wipe if I need to considering I can't remove the battery? Any help appreciated!

discoverer report is taking a very long time for rows to be retrieved on export when it is run for India and it is required for month end. For some reason only 250 rows are retrieved at a time and retrieval is slow so it is taking 10 minutes to bring back 10,000 rows.

Messages are taking a very long time to send.

Hello, I'm currently having a big problem with messages taking a very long time to actually send. The spinning wheel will stay there for hours. It only happens in one or two skype groups at a time where I can send messages normally in other groups. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

I have been having this problem for the last 4 releases. I have had some take up to 8 hours to send before. I can usually fix it by signing out then restarting skype. Just restarting skype doesn't work, nor does just signing in again.

I set it to start restoring from the 3GS backup yesterday at 1pm and the time remaining kept on increasing. I left it overnight and at 9am this morning the progress bar hadnt moved and it said 12 hours remaining.
I don't know why its taking so long. I unplugged it and it just set up as new phone. So i did a factory reset and tried again at 4pm and it is now 12am and it says 4 hours remaining and my computer occasionally flickers. (Its not a bad computer, 2 months old, i7, 6GB RAM, Heaps of HDD space). It also messes with google chrome and i cannot browse the web at all while it is trying to restore my iphone.
I have tried restarting my laptop and should i reinstall itunes? I simply dont see why it should take longer than 20 hours to copy over 20GB of data!

No, you cannot backup via direct usb connection..
But gigabit ethernet is much faster anyway.. are you connected directly by ethernet?
Is the drive you are backing up from plugged into the TC? That will slow it down something chronic.. plug that drive in by its fastest connection method.. WESC sorry I have no idea. If ethernet use that.. otherwise USB direct to the computer.. always think what way the files come and go.. but since you are copying from the computer everything has to go that way.. it makes things slower if they go over the same cable.. if you catch the drift.

Do you have current backups?
Those symptoms could indicate a failing Hard drive. If it dies, all your documents go with it unless you have Backups.
I have had very good luck with physical and battery problem diagnosis at the Genius Bar. Those guys put their hands (and their ears) to these machines, all day every day, and they know immediately what all those sounds mean.

Bank statement import FF_5 sometimes takes a really long time

In the middle of august we started to have problems with bank statement import FF_5 - sometimes (but not always) it takes a really long time (3 - 4 hours) to import data - usually it would take from few minutes to 1 hour (depending on size of import file). There is no error, the documents that match are posted automatically like always, the amount of documents, that are not posted automatically, is the same as always... We didn't do any new settings in system.
We tried to find cause with debugger and sql trace, but there was no error - the import program works ok, then suddenly it stops in one line and searches in cluster table RFBLG without filled field GJAHR (year) - that means that it searches among approx 7.400.000 records (the size of our RFBLG is appr. 12 Gat the moment).
We don't have ideas any more, how to find a cause for strange behaviour. The problem is, that there is no rule - sometimes it's ok, sometimes it works very slow - no matter how big the import file is. The problem occurs with all bank files (we have 3 banks).
Do you maybe have any suggestions, what to do and how to find and eliminate the cause?

Hi Meti,
Have you tried analysing differences between files that it goes slow on and files where it goes quickly? Sounds like there is some difference in file data that causes it to do a lookup. If the traecs are not finding the differences, it might be wortwhile to put the file data into Excel for a slow and a fast and compare field level data?
