EHP6 Upgrade - MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG

Hello,
I am performing EHP6 upgrade and I am kinda stuck in pre-processing phase. I am getting the following error message.
       Last error code set: RFC login to system SID ashost ip nr 06 gwhost host gwservice sapgw06 failed with code 1 key RFC_COMMUNICATION_FAILURE:

What amuse me is that, I don't find executable's for starting the shadow instance under . /SUMdirectory/ abap/bin/ directory. startshd and stopshd files are missing.
I used the command sapcontrol -nr 06 -function Start to start my shadow instance and its started, but I am still getting the same error if I continue the phase.
I am doubting if the kernel is having any issue but I am unable to crack it.
Any help would be great.

Hello Ling Lu,
this error points out to a corrupted MEMSAPehpi.dat file, probably when you terminated the session via Ctrl+C.
You must comment out the last line(s) of this file in order to proceed. Please open it and look for a repeated or incomplete last line(s) and comment it out. Make a backup of the file first, then repeat the phase, it should work.

I have started my upgrade from ERP EHP4 to EHP5.
During phase PreProcessing - the phase MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG fails for the following reason :

This issue is caused by misconfigured parameters for Oracle. The main
ones are the parameters: PROCESSES and SESSIONS.

EHP4 for ERP 6.0 upgrade phase MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG running takes long time

Dear all,
I just tried to upgrade a fresh ERP 6.0 EHP4 ready (Linux X86_64 - Oracle) to EHP4 ERP 6.0.
I go through phase MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG running, but it takes a very long times.
I checked the server resources usage, it 's very low.
I checked on my ERP 6.0 system and also the shadow system (background job, SM50), it seems no activities on both).
MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG running - what is this phase about?
Its normal for this phase to takes about several hours??
What should i check to ensure that the upgrade process is still running?
How can i estimate time needed for this EHP4 upgrade?
I installed that freshERP 6.0 EHP4 ready system only on around 3-4 hours.

Dear All,
I have same issue in ERP 6.0, EHP4 update, "MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG" phase is still running, 24 hours passed. (only for this phase)
This is a NEW installation and on Production. I had no issues with DEV and QA and has taken only 50 minutes for the same phase.
Everything is same between DEV and PRD except, Production is on AIX HACMP cluster and using latest Ehpi installer + latest SPAM - version 41.
- There is no any error or warnings in /usr/sap/SID/EHPI/abap/log directory
- Phase is running, writing and reading files to installation directory
- No any automatic cluster fail-over mechanisms enabled
- Cluster has two nodes, DB+ASCS on one node and CI on other node.
- Shadow instance is running, can login, no errors in sm21, st22, no any running or canceled background jobs
- I can see 15% to 35% CPU "waits" in CI node where ehpi is running, but 50% of CPU is idle
- Also on same CI node, 70% to 100% disk busy waits can be seen on disks which mounted Ehpi installation directory
- On DB node CPU utilization and disk utilization is low
What could be the reason? Any idea ? How to diagnose.

Can not pass with phrase MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG

In processing upgrade to EHP4
am facing a problem with step MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG in phrase Preprocessing
System throws a errors:
Checks after phrase MAIN_SHDRUN/DDIC_UPG were negative !
Choose action :
1. Repeat Pharse
2. Initialize Phrase
3. Exit Program
I chose option Repeat Phrase for this step many times but warning still display. I do not find any logs about this
and then, i chose option Initialize Phrase and i have a reports
a patch job RDDIMPDP must be running in your SAP system with events
trigger enables. If this is not case, -> log into shadow instance and start
report RDDNEWPP as user DDIC in client 000
Choose action :
1. Scheduled
2.Exit
i chose Schedule options and and finally, can not continue

You Cannot select assembly order for deletion error with BAPI_SALESORDER_CAHNGE after EHP6 upgrade

Hi All,
We are using Z transaction to update Wbs element data to sales order line item through BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGE. After EHP6 upgrade while updating Wbs element data to old sales orders(Created before EHP6 upgrade) we are getting You cannot select assembly order < order number> for deletion (V1 748) error in BAPI return table, For multiple Sales order run.
But if we run the same order individually it is getting processed successfully. W e are passing the same values in individual and multiple case.
We debugged the BAPI and found one more error related to Authorization, But BAPI return table is giving different error (V1 748)message. Please help us in finding the issue.

Can we upgrade direct ecc6.0 ehp6 using SUM tool ?

Hi Arun,
You cannot Upgrade directly to ehp6 because your operating system & database will not support for ehp6 as per PAM.
your target release ERP EHP6 : OS -win 2008 : Oracle 11 g
find below steps
Phase 1
1. Apply latest patches to win 2003 server.
2. Apply latest oracle patches to your current release
3. Upgrade your SAP from ECC5 to EHP5
Phase 2
1. Upgrade your OS from WIN 2003 To 2008
2. Upgrade Oracle from 10 to 11 ( you can upgrade this first phase also)
3. Upgrade ehp5 to ehp6

EHP6 upgrade with PI in the landscape

Hi All,
I realize all documentation say that you must always keep your PI boxes at the highest levels in your landscape.
I know oss note 1043047 and 954820 speak to this.
I'm just became part of a project that over looked this. We are planning a EHP6 upgrade.
This will bring in NW 731 stack right?
Our PI is old at NW 7.11
The SLD on the PI's are to the latest versions.
The project to migrate to PO is coming after ehp6.
Again this was all planned before I came on board.
Any thoughts of what to expect? I still believe it should work fine until we get to the upgrade.

You should under all circumstances perform a test upgrade, on a sandbox system first.
The theory of the upgrade is one thing, the problems of doing it for real are a quiet different matter.
You can see the changes (including what new kernel version will be installed), when reviewing the stack calculation report as done by MOPz (SolMan Maintenance Optimizer).
It will tell you exactly what software component gets replaced with what other version.
Also consider the impact on development, and if you have a multi-system landscape, you gotta plane in which sequence to upgrade what server.
Last not least, consider performance impact and downtime.
I have seen PI systems so (over)utilized that they literally "cooked the hardware" they were running on.
Putting the added strain of performing an upgrade on such a system, might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
That is why sandbox testing is so essential here.

Ki235 Error When PGI After Ehp6 Upgrade

Hello
What would cause KI235 error when PGI after ehp6 upgrade? We are upgrading to ehp6 and are receiving this error when PGIing delivery. It only does this in the upgraded client and not in non-upgraded client. The automatic account assignments match exactly in both clients and are not missing or incorrect.
Also check OKB9 setting it is perfectly ok.

ABAP activities during EHP6 Upgrade

Hi All,
During EHP6, upgrade apart from SPDD, SPAU & UCCHECK adjustments, obsolete FMs - WS_UPLOAD, UPLOAD, WS_DOWNLOAD & DOWNLOAD should be replaced with the latest one from Z-programs.
What are the other ABAP activities & obsolete FMs that should be taken care for Z-developments in the system during EHP6 upgarde?

IS Retal ECC EHP6 Upgrade Material not Article

Hi
I am busy testing our ECC EHP6 upgrade in an IS Retail System.
I have noticed the system is now referring to Material and no longer Article (MB51, MM41/2/3 even the W10T menu shows material and not article)
My developer has suggested I go to SE93 to change the transaction description from Material to Article.
This does not seem correct
Has anyone experienced this before?
Do you have a solution?

You need to apply Retail Text after every upgrade.
Please take note of the following:

ASU During EHP6 upgrade

Dear All,
I had upgrade our ecc 6.0 to ehp5, 1 year back , but it never ask for ASU/Upgrade step,
But Now once i am trying to upgrade to ehp6 , it is asking for /ASU/Upgrade step, Once i tried n/ASU/Upgrade/ in 000 client it is prompting me to choose task list , How to proceed with ASU step please give some steps.

Headings of CSKS table have been changed in SE16 after EHP6 upgrade

We have upgraded from ECC 6.0 to EHP6 , but after upgrade the headings of CSKS table have been chnaged in SE16 i.e. the last 3 coloumns are seen as Ind. only , where as in SE16N its correctly seen as Name Description , Cost Center , Cost Center short text .
Kindly help me with this

Backend PO not getting created after EHP6 upgrade

Hi Friends,
Recently there was an SAP patch upgrade in ECC 6.0 and after that while creating the shopping cart the PO is created, but it is not transferring to ECC. We are using the extended classic scenario SAP SRM 7.0. I had checked almost everything right from debugging still clueless. even checked the forums but still the issue is not resolved. Any hints of how to proceed now.

When We are creating shopping cart, system will create Po in back end based on our BAPI.
Check whether BAPI is running properly or not. You are updated new version EHP6 , I hope you should do required configuration. Try in development server whether Po are creating backend or not.
I hope you should check all the configuration in backend system i.e in ECC and SRM side.
Do again batch running and check whether back ground job getting created or not.
