EIS vs Studio

Hi all,
EIS 11.1.2.1 Vs. Essbase Studio 11.1.2.1...... is there anything EIS can do and Studio cannot?
and what about last release 11.1.2.2
Thanks in advance!

Hi(Bonjour)!
FCE HD is a pretty much powerfull app. But in it's 4.0 version you don't have access to Soundtrack 2and to all livetype content. You need this version to do AVCHD.
Once you understand FCE HD editing techniques and workflow (the learnig curve is steppier than iMovie), you understand Final Cut Pro as well and understanding to additionnal PRO features is relatively easy (if you need the professionnal features...).
Final Cut Studio come with a bundle of powerfull app to work the sound (soundtrack pro 2), the titling (Livetype 2 -with full content-, and Motion 3), the color correction (Color), the composition (Motion), the compression (Compressor) and DVD autoriting (DVD Studio Pro).
All those app need to be mastered to use all the power of the suite.
If you want to do DV or HDV or AVCHD in a prosumer context, Final Cut Express is the way to go, it's a real bargain price these days.
If you plan to do professionnal jobs or need more power to tweak other aspects than image editing, (and have the cash), go to FCS 2. After using FCE since 2004, I bought Studio just for Motion 3 and DVD SP 4, but with the time, I'm learning to love all other app from the suite. (but I'm still use FCE for simple straight projects).

  • Migrating OLAP Models and Metaoutlines from EIS to Studio.

    Hi All,
I'm trying to migrate metaoutlines and olap models from EIS to Essbase Studio.
I am able to fetch all the models and metaoutlines but after that when i click on the Migrate button, it throws me this error:
Reading results from query for reading view attr failed. java.lang.NullPointerException
    Any idea whats going wrong?
    Kindly help.

It just means that in the dropdown you need to pick the name that maps to the schema where your meta/data tables are stored for the EIS model/metaoutline you are migrating.

  • Cube build in EIS To Studio

    Hi All,
I've a cube being build using EIS(Essbase Integration Services). I would like to build the same cube using Essbase Studio.
    My doubts are:
    1. How do I start off?
    2. Any tutorials on similar lines which I can refer?
    3. Any old posts in this Forum?
    4. What should take care of ? What to expect?

    Hi John,
Thanks a lot for the link!
But you knw what - I'm stuck here at the EIS Catalog Migration login window which comes up.
How do i connect to the EIS Catalog DSN.
The documentation which u have sent tells me that: If the ODBC DSN to the Integration Services catalog does not exist, you must create the ODBC
DSN. If the Integration Services catalog does not reside on the same machine as Essbase Studio, you must create an ODBC DSN on the machine where the EssbaseĀ  Studio client is running. This DSN must point to the database where the Integration Services catalog resides.
How do i create a DSN which wud point to the database where the Intg Services catalog resides.
    Any help/idea is deeply appreciated.
    Thanks again.

  • Migrating Models and Metaoutlines from EIS to Studio

    Hi John,
    In the migration link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/est_help/eis_migration.htm
the point 7 says: Click in the Data Source Connection column and, from the drop-down list, select the target relational
    database.
Note: The target relational database should match the Integration Services target data source.
    Any idea wat it means?
    I did not understand this.

  • How to set alias using Essbase Studio?

I have read through P113-P118 "Oracle Essbase Studio User Guide" about the how to set up alias. It seems easy t create the Alias Set according to the document.
I want to set 100-10 alias as "Cola", the information comes from the TBC relational database. The product table in RLDB has field SKU and SKU_Alias columns, the value of SKU is: 100-10,100-20, etc.
    My binding is:
    Source: SKU
    connection : TBC::TBC.Product.SKU_ALIAS
This is using the grammer in page 115
    connection :
    \'<logical_source_name'::'<physical_data_source_name>.<physical_tabl
    e_name>'.'<physical_column_name>'
But after I deployed the cube, I cannot see the product alias name as expected from EAS? I tried 100 times, but cannot find what's wrong with me. Please advise, thanks!
My question: How to set up or associate the alias set with the product items from Essbase Studio so that I can see it from EAS? thanks! Bob

First it may be useful to convert the EIS TBC model to Studio, to do this you would have to configure EIS and create the TBC sample application.
Once it has been created in Studio you can go to Tools > EIS Catalog migration and migrate the TBC app from EIS to Studio.
If you use this method all the aliases etc will be already set up so you can see how it is done.
To set up Aliases you would go to
Tools > "Alias set Manager" > Create a new alias say "Default" and add a binding e.g. PRODUCTDIM.SKU to PRODUCTDIM.SKUALIAS
Then on your Model right click "Essbase Properties" > Alias tab > Select the Default alias table and move to the selected tables window.
This should of then assigned the default table, if you check the properties of say PRODUCTDIM.SKU in the alias tab Default and the mapping should be shown.

  • Essbase Studio Migration 11.1.3

I am trying to migrate existing EIS catalog to Essbase studio 11.1.3.
Its wired that Essbase studio is only recongnizing User DSN when compared to System DSN for EIS Catalog DSN
Essbase/EIS/Essbase Studio are installed on the same box.
Using SQl Native Client 2005 for ODBC connceiton.
have to create File DSN for Studio migration.
Is any body else facing similar issue, does Studio treats User DSN diff to System DSN, just curio's , any insight will be appreciated.

    Hi,
I have no issues with essbase studio using an ODBC system DSN, in essbase studio under EIS migration I can just enter the EIS ODBC System DSN and it will retrieve all the models.
Any chance you using 64bit windows and are not using the correct ODBC administrator (32bit against 64bit)

  • Migrating Studio across environments

EIS had/has the ability to export schemas and other EIS objects as XML files that can be used to migrate across environments.
Studio has no such thing (or if it does, I can't see it).
The docs do talk about migration, but that's from EIS to Studio. LCM, tantilizingly, shows Studio, but when I click on it I get a "User is not authorized for the action." My id has every Studio provisioning right there is.
I can see a migration path, sort of, that entails moving an entire database schema/database (Oracle/SQL Server) from one environment to another, and then diving into the tables to change references to servers, rights, etc. I have not tried this because it reminds me of pre-11 Planning migrations and they hurt.
Is the above approach documented anywhere?
Is there a better way to migrate from development to production?
If there is, wonderful. Following on that welcome news, is there a way to selectively migrate an object or series of objects?

    Hello GlennS:
CL, I hope you do not mind if I re-open this post ;)
I have been working with Essbase Studio 11.1.2 and I have seen that models could be exported to xml. But now I am working with 11.1.1.3 and I do not know how to migrate between environments.
I think I have two issues:
    1) Maybe 11.1.1.3 does not support this feature?. Migrating the entire database should be the solution?. Should I also migrate physical files?
    2) My database is in SQL Server 2005 and destination database is Oracle. Do you think I would be able to?
    Thank you for your help

  • Using SSIS and SSRS with Essbase

In Essbase, is it possible to do your ETL function using Sql Server Integration Services? And generate reports from the cube using SQL Server Reporting Services?
    TIA

Yes on the first, then output to a table or view for Essbase to pick up through data load rules, ODI, DIM, EIS, or Studio. I'm sure I've forgotten something else, but there are a lot (too many, actually) of ways to get data into Essbase.
No on the second as Essbase would need to be a supported data source to SQL Server Reporting Services. I don't believe there's an out of the box solution for that. There is always the Java API but now the level of complexity has gotten very high.

  • Creating the outline and Loading data for TBC in 11.1.2.2

Hi all, feelin kinda dumb here because this task really should not be as difficult as it seems.
I am trying to Load the TBC application in 11.1.2.2 Essbase. I have followed the documentation to
    1. Install EIS
    2. create the metadata repository and load the xml file provided
I now need to create the essbase cube from this metadata repository, I cannot seem to find any real steps as to how to do this, everything I found was pertaining to creating the repository. Can anyone help define what needs to be done and what steps I need to take, I am new to EIS and Studio so the simpler the better :)
    thanx

thanx, this did give me a better understanding of essbase studio, thank you. It did not help so much as getting the structure and data from the repository into essbase. For that from what I understand I can import models from EIS (where I loaded the TBC) one. In doing this I get an error saying that it cannot find any models (which I know are there because I can look at them in EIS. Unfortunately, looking over other posts, I installed Studio on a 64 bit server, which may be the issue I am facing (I hope)
I am going to try and reinstall studio on a 32 bit platform and try the import again.

  • Drill Down Options in Planning & HFM

    Hi All,
What are the drill downs option available in Hyperion Planning & Financial Reporting.

Edited by: dwhpc on Jul 23, 2009 10:31 AM

    Hi,
In planning V11 you have the option to drillback from forms to FDM.
Other than that there are not many options, you can write custom javascript to pass details from a form into a web page that could drill down on data.
It is possible to use to EIS/Essbase studio to use drillback with essbase.

  • Migraton from EIS to Essbase Studio

    Hi All,
We try to migrate the existing EIS (32 bits setup) into Essbase Studio (64 bits) environment.
The old EIS and SQL2000 are both installed on separate servers.
In the new environment we have a seperate server for Studio and SQL2008.
How to use the migration function ?
I have create an ODBC on the Studio-server with a connection to the SQL2000 server.
When I start the EIS catalog Migration, fill in the EIS Catalog ODCC DSN with the just created ODBC-name.
Then press the Fetch Models button and the message: No models could be fetched for the catalog etc.
What's going wrong. Your reaction is much appriciated !!
    Regards,
    Ed

    Thanks Glenn,
that gives me a better approach for my solution.
As metadata/data loading to the Planning application (workforce) will be part of an integration process we could then:
    1. Load new Metadata to the Planning application
    2. Refresh the planning databases
    3. Run a MAXL Script to redeploy the Essbase-Studio cube (which is actually the Planning cube)
    4. Load aggregated data to Essbase cube
    5. Load detailed data to relational table in Essbase Studio.
now the cube is deployed with Essbase Studio so drill through should work as expected.
The integration process will be created in ODI so ODi will be responsible of loading metadata and data, and also executing the MAXL script for cube re-deployment
Do you think we are missing something in the macro steps above?

  • Essbase Studio - Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server

    Hi all,
I am new to Hyperion and am having trouble deploying what seems a simple cube in Essbase Studio.
My environment is Windows 2003, EPM 11.1.1.2, SQL Server 2000.
I have the following two issues which may be related.
    1. The EPM System Diagnostic tool says that Hyperion Foundation cannot connect to the SQL database.
    Error:
    Failed: Connection to database
    Error: java.net.UnknownHostException: <server name: <server name>
    Recommended Action:
Every other EPM application is able to connect to the database. I have tried re-configuring Foundation Services and checking the config files and nothing looks wrong. I would appreciate advice on how to fix this.
2 In Essbase Studio, I was able to connect to the database where the source data is, build the minischema and create dimensions and measures. But when I run the cube deployment wizard I get the error:
Message: Failed to deploy Essbase cube
Caused By: Failed to build Essbase cube dimension: (Time)
Caused By: Cannot incremental build. Essbase Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server. See log for more information
…ODBC Layer Error: [08001] ==> [[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.]
I have checked the DSN as well as the connections set up within Studio, and they are all able to connect to the database. I am using the admin user for the Essbase server and have created a different user for the databases where the data resides and the shared services database. I tried using the same user all the way through and this didn’t help.
Can you please advise what else I can check or change to resolve this issue.
Also, can you work in EAS with cubes that are created in Studio? I tried looking at it and I got an error that the rule file couldn’t be accessed because it was created in Studio.
After the above failures, I tried creating a cube in EIS, with mixed success. I have been able to load the members and data without errors. But when I try to view the data in the cube, I am seeing field names for the measures instead of the data itself.
...Definitely more questions than answers at this stage of my learning.
    Regards
    Michelle

    Michelle,
I don't know if you found an answer to you question after so many months but I was hoping I could be helpful.
The issue you are experience happens often when the dimension that you are getting an error on, in this case TIME, is built from a snowflake lineage and there is a bad foreign key reference. This dimension is most like high-up in your outline build process for Essbase Studio and this prevents the build from happening usually early on.
Check your logs also. They are in Hyperion > Products > logs > essbase > essbasestudio.
You can also make your logs more verbose by setting a configuration variable in the essbase studio server.properties file but that should only be used for debugging as it really saps performance.
And, yes, you can of course edit an Essbase Studio deployed cube in EAS. However, any changes you make to the cube in EAS are subject to being wiped-out upon the next Essbase Studio deployment of that Applicaion/Database combo.
If you want to provide more detail, screenshots, etc. I would be glad to help where I can.
    Cheers,
    Christian

  • Essbase Studio Data Sources

    Hello,
we are familiar with Essbase Integration Services (EIS) which we use to build our essbase outline with the memberload-option.
EIS itself uses configured ODBC-DSN to read data from relational databases. Because EIS uses the ODBC DSN of the system where EIS Server is running it is possible to use other ODBC-DSN/Drivers than the from DataDirect supported ones.
Because we have a big EDW which is not supported officially in the Essbase Support Stack we still have the requirement to use our EDW as Data Source to Build the Outline (The Essbase Data Load also uses a EDW ODBC-DSN to load Data).
In fact the Essbase Data Load via a free configurable ODBC will still work.
But if we look for a Step from EIS to Essbase Studio we recognize that Essbase Studio will only Support some few Databases (in 11.1.2.3 it is Oracle (+RAC), MS SQL, MySQL, DB2, Netezza, Teradata)
Does anybody knows other RDBMS / ODBC-Drivers that already have successfully configured/tested with Essbase Studio.
The Documentation still say that Essbase Studio will Support relational databases but i think they mean the ones which are hard-coded in the essbase studio console gui.
    Best Regards,
    Kai

It doesn't have to but it makes life much easier.

  • Essbase Studio Issue

    Hello Experts,
I am new to Essbase Studio.
I have a few applications created in the AAS Console. Is it possible to view the created applications in Essbase Studio? If yes, please suggest the steps.
    Thanks in advance.

Have you read the introduction and user guide to studio > http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/est_help/frameset.htm?ch02s01.htm
You can open EAS from within Studio. Though Studio is not really designed for editing existing essbase applications. You need to compare studio to EIS not EAS.

You should verify with the sales rep, but it should be included. Of couse, you really shouls be using Esbase Studio instead as EIS is being replaced by Studio
