I have an Mac Book 15" - Late 2011 / OX 10.9.2 8 Gig RAM AND 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor.My CD/DVD drive automatically ejects every disc I put in immediately. I can't figure out why it's doing this as till December 2013 it was doing fine? I had to reinstall OX and Maverics as my Laptop was lost and recovered and I had actioned erase all data.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you suspect it could be the latter, you may just have to replace the optical drive, or add an external one that supports Mac OS X utility booting, and not use possible rootkit CDs again.

Mac mini repeatedly ejects DVD drive

At start-up, computer does not chime. No monitor. Just repeatedly ejects the DVD drive. There is not a disk in the drive. I swapped the DVD drive with another computer. The suspect DVD drive operated fine on the good computer and the bad computer persisted with it's repeated eject business with the known good drive.
Any ideas?

It's not something silly like the eject button stuck or broken on the keyboard? Also the DVD will eject if the mouse is held down, so try booting with another (or no mouse) connected.
It could be something not connected correctly after you replaced the drive?

G4 ejects DVD drive on bootup

Since aquiring my own Mac G4 digital audio for dirt cheap (£0 ) I've been reassembling the peices. It works entirely, but I have a strange problem with the optical drives. Since the guy I had got it from removed almost everything (RAM, CD/DVD, HDD), I used spare parts to get it running. It boots into OSX 10.5 fine and everything seems to work ok, but upon powering the mac up, it ejects the DVD drive tray when the gray screen shows. It's done it with every drive I have tried and stops me from booting from CDs.
Is there any reason it could be doing this? These drives I know work 100%.

Now that the machine is assembled, reset the NVRAM:
Boot to Open Firmware (Cmd+Opt+O+F)
At the Open Firmware prompt, type:reset-nvram
Press Return.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type:reset-all
Press Return.
The machine should then restart, settings returned to default and a new device tree created.

Itunes ejecting DVD drive instead of iPod

I have my 80 gb 5th gen iPod set for disk drive use. When I try to eject the iPod after a sync, itunes ejects my DVD drives instead of the iPod. Any idea how I can solve this problem?
Using itunes for Windows (latest version) with Windows Vista.

When I plug my iPod into the computer USB port, the iPod summary screen appears and iTunes seems to recognize my iPod. However, the storage capacity and available space listed are those of my hard drive (C:). Further, when I try to download something to my iPod, iTunes appears to be downloading, but nothing is transferred to the iPod. I suspect its going to my hard drive.
i think you're right. (although it's kind of odd to be getting this interaction with a C drive.) do the techniques from the following document help with that?

How do you open the DVD/CD Drive on the Lenovo G50 Series laptop? There is no eject button on the computer. But there is definitely a DVD/CD Drive in the computer. Can anyone help!?

Hmm..that's so weird. Never seen dvd drive without an eject button. What's your exact model number? It should be on sticker on bottom of laptop.
The picture I posted is actually of G50 laptop and G50 page on Lenovo.com also shows eject button on DVD drive in the pictures.
Temorarily, you can open Windows Explorer (Windows key + E), right-click on DVD drive, and press Eject.

I am glad I found this thread. This is exactly what I am trying to do as well. I tried to create a workflow in automator that does as suggested. My problem is that finder gets the item "Clone" the name of the HD I want to eject. Then I make a step to eject it. I run the workflow to test it, but the HD Clone is still mounted. The automator shows no results in the eject step.
Also I would like to eject my windows boot camp drive. This drive is "Untitled" as it is formated NTSF. Step 1 in the Workflow cannot even find this drive to begin with. Is there anyway to eject this disk other than manually?

Occasionally system hangs during eject of DVD-drive

I have an irritating problem where I cannot get rid off (yet).
When I am burning cd on nero (latest version) the system starts to hang when the DVD-drive is ejecting the CD -> I have to restart the comp.
Same when I use DVD Decrypter, when I create an ISO file on the hard drive from DVD. It starts to hang when he ejects the DVD.
I started to play around with the automatic eject settings on the drive itself and in the programs and try to set it to "do not eject", but it does't work.
Any hints/ideas?

I did not do so much until now...(time)
But what I did is send an email to Nero tech support with all the information included from all there Info utilities, which should help answering some support questions. I can tell you that the support is probably just as "good" as MSI's support. It took them 4 days to send a non helpfull answer... and I had to remind them about the request as well.
I now have latest version of Nero (6.3.1.15) and the drivers from Mega 180 cd.
I assumed that the drivers from my Mega 180 cd were the same from the web (2004-2-17) and that the less helpfull drivers -mentioned in the link by you Normunds- were shipped together with bios 3.0. (I have standard 3.30). But maybe that isn't so...

Probably I will try out the following, and if the first of them doesn't help I take the next point and so on:
* Install NEC 2500 latest firmware 1.07
* Install the drivers from the web -ITB- (2004-2-17)
* Install the drivers nVidia nForce 4.24 WHQL

Hi if someone could please help me my cd/dvd drive was working fine now it is spinning and spits otu the disc. My harddrive recently crashed and I had to take it and the hard drive was replaced , that is the only change the computer has had so far. See if this helps:
The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. For example a "combo drive" can read a DVD-R and burn a CD-R however it cannot burn a DVD-R. The utility System Profiler may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.

Virtual DVD drive in Explorer glitches when an ISO is ejected

When I eject an ISO mounted in the DVD drive (G:\) automatically created by Windows in File Explorer by right clicking the drive and clicking Eject, the hard drives below it (H & I:\) also disappear from the Explorer pane and the This PC window. This
glitch is very annoying .. how can I fix it? This happened both on my previous install of 8.1 and my current clean install.
I only have MS Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat X, browser, and all microsoft updates installed right now. The only 3rd party drivers installed are those for my graphics card, everything else is what comes with windows.
The only workarounds I'm aware of are using 3rd party software (virtual clone drive works perfectly) or reassigning drive letters so that there are no drives after the virtual drive(s) automatically created when mounting an ISO. I would prefer to use Explorer
itself and keep 3rd party software to the minimum and the latter option is not practical for me to apply.

Can't install Windows 7 Pro x64 - device driver missing - can't eject DVD

Hello,
I am trying to install Windows 7 Pro x64 - I create the partition in boot camp and start windows install process. **During the Windows install process**, it says "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: if the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step".
Apparently the drivers are on the OSX install DVD. But, there is no way to eject the windows DVD! Why on earth is there no manual eject on Macs? Is there another way to eject? I tried to put a paperclick in the slot next to where a CD is inserted but it didn't do anything. Is there another way to get Windows to see the correct device drivers?
I am all for clean slick designs, but when it does not have all required functionality, it is kind of useless.
I am talking to Mac Support and they can't help.
Looks like I will have to return this Mac, I also need to boot into full Windows (without Parallels or VMWare) to do my work.

You don't mention what Mac you have, so I'd have to say there is almost no way to help.
IF the 7 Pro x64 came download ISO thru EDU, you have to burn it, and if you use Disk Utility, at 2X reduced burn speed... otherwise it won't work.
A VM isn't fussy and can use ISOs.
If you want both native and VM, to have Windows installed on its own hard drive and use it under OS X, then you have to install it and use Boot Camp Assistant.
I'd say it is all about your DVD media.

The optical drive on my Macbook white keeps ejecting DVD's?

So am trying to upgrade to snow leopard on my older intel based macbook white, but the disc just ejects, first I thought it was a problem with the disc, but I tried with another DVD and did the same thing. CD's seem to work fine.
Tried the disc utility repair and safe mode and all that but no joy. So I also have a newer aluminium macbook which works great, so I was wondering if it was at all possible to use the optical drive on my newer macbook to install the disc on my older macbook using the remote disc facility? I know its for the Air but is there a way to make it work for my non air macbook. I wanna see if this is possible before I go to the expense of getting an external DVD drive or even getting it fixed by apple which im sure is gunna costa an arm and a leg!
Or is there something else I can try to get my dvd section of the optical drive working again?

If I were you, I'd uninstall Power Manager entirely. I don't particularly like any of Lenovo's software. Each and every one has caused me problems so I've gotten rid of them all.

CD/DVD Drive is Dead - Unable to feed, Unable to Eject

I believe the symptoms started when I was trying to feed a Costco photo CD or DVD into the iMac, and it would just keep ejecting it out.
When I try to insert something now, there's no noise, no grabbing of the disc, and no inserting. It's like hitting a wall once it's inserted about half way.
I am pretty sure there's nothing in the iMac CD/DVD drive right now... but either way, when I hold the Eject button on start up, or when I hold the left click on startup, nothing happens.
It the motor or the drive dead? How do I diagnose the problem?

1) No. Since it won't work in OS 9, either, it is most likely a hardware issue. Apple says to use a straightened paperclip to open the drive manually. I'm not sure that "something sharp" wouldn't damage the drive mechanism, since a straightened paperclip is not sharp.
2) It's probably going to take a new (or used) drive. You can find one at PowerBook Tech. They also have instructions for replacing it, but it's not an easy thing to do. (You could also maybe find one on eBay.)
Another set of instructions for replacing the optical drive can be found at iFixit. iFixit also has the drive available for purchase, but it's more expensive there.
If you don't want the Combo drive, a CD-ROM or DVD drive can probably be had for less money. eBay may have some really good buys from people parting out their iBooks. Look for somebody with a good feedback profile.

How to eject a DVD from Power Mac G5 CD/DVD drive?

I already know the trick about holding down the mouse button while the computer starts up, and whatever is in the CD/DVD drive will eject. But that does not work in this case, because my computer will no longer startup. No startup chime. The power light comes on, and that is it. It is possible that the DVD in the drive may be causing the problem, because I can hear the computer checking the drive at startup, and then the startup sequence stops. Besides I need to get the DVD back to the movie rental place.
My old PC had a small hole that you could insert a paperclip in to force a CD/DVD drive to eject, even with power off. I don't see that on this computer (Power Mac G5 [late 2005]).
Does anybody have any suggestions?

And one more way I'd not heard of...
The old iMac didn't have a disk inside, but the mechanism was "frozen" for some reason. I took a long strip of plastic and ran in and out of the superdrive slot; eventually, the drive made that familiar mechanical the usually occurs after ejection.
