Eject DVD script and map to eject key?

Could someone instruct me on how to create an eject script to open my SuperDrive DVD tray and map it to the "Eject" key? I need a powerful programming solution here and I don't mind opening some sensitive system files if necessary.
For some reason my aluminum keyboard "Eject" key will not work and the menu extra (eject.menu) turns blue and freezes. However, dragging a CD/DVD to the trash works fine, disk utility works, itunes works and toast works. OS X 10.5.5/6 does not work.
I'd like to be able to command my DVD drive to open when I need it.
Thanks

Thanks for your help, but I did an archive and install less than a week ago because I had trouble with the 10.5.6 update. All seems fine now except the Media Eject Key. Oh, I also tried a 2nd Aluminum keyboard from a new iMac, and I tried an older white keyboard from a G5 iMac.
This is becoming very weird. Nothing seems to be working. Even eject.menu (menu extras) only works a couple times and then turns solid blue and freezes. I have repaired permissions many times and between every updater and restart along the update path back to 10.5.6. No abnormal problems detected. Also ran DiskWarrior from another hard drive. Oh... and started up from a second drive with 10.5.5 and still will not open!
I have even reflashed my DVR-115D back to 1.18 as normal (down from 1.22) and that didn't help either. I know it's not the drive because all other programs and terminal can open it no problem.
Only thing left is a firmware issue or keyboard interface coding. Anyway to force the keyboard firmware 1.0 to re-update? I tried to rerun it but it says already updated.
Maybe if I zap the Pram??????? Haven't tried that yet.

  • Login Script and map command

    Hello,
This is the first year we are using NSM wide spread. In the past I would just add a map command to the storage location for the half dozen or so classes using NSM. Now I have close to 80 classes using NSM.
All storage is loaded in the same area, "classroomstorage" each class has it's own subdirectory under this location; Enghish 8, Math 7, and so forth.
If I set a map command to the root directory "classroomstorage" I get and 8804 error. Because the students do not have rights to the root of the directory structure.
Is there anyway to set a single map command? Would appling a read/write trustee assignment and a IRF to the "classroomstorage" directory allow mapping yet not allow everyone to see all the other folders?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    Allen

You need to give the teachers rights to the classroom storage via the
policy template and the -owner- methodology provided by NSM, in
conjunction with the owner attribute in eDirectory.
    thanks,

  • How to link eject key on keyboard to external cd/dvd drive?

I'm using an external Lacie cd/dvd drive with a Mac Mini to rip over 7,000 cds so I'm trying to find the most efficient way to do this. I will often rip cds while watching a tv or movie. I use my tv as my monitor. I have my itunes preferences set to rip and eject when finished. My problem occurs when I accidentally insert a cd that I've already imported or one that has mutliple entries to choose from on CDDB/Gracenote. A dialog box comes up asking if I want to replace, don't replace, choose album title, etc. At this point I want to be able to use the eject key to eject the disc and insert the next one in my stack. I don't want to have to pause my movie, swicth input jacks on my tv to view my desktop then manually hit the eject icon within iTunes. Why is it so hard to disassociate the eject key with the Mini's built-in drive. Didn't Apple think people would be using external drives?

Once again thanks guys but Ejector simply adds an eject icon onto my menu bar. I want to be able to eject a disc from an external drive without the need of switching off whatever movie I'm watching, changing the input on my tv to vga for my Mini, eject it from there and then do the whole process in reverse. Maybe I'm not being clear...I am NOT using my Mini to watch movies, tv, etc. I am using U-Verse or my Blu-ray player. I am ripping cds while I am watching movies. The ONLY solution is to be able to eject by using the eject key on my keyboard. Anyone?

  • Sound Volume and Eject Keys Not Working

I installed 10.4.3 from the DVD on a G4. After the installation the sound keys (volume up, down and mute) and the eject key on the Apple Pro keyboard no longer work. They also don't show up on the Keyboard Viewer.
Anyone have a fix for this?

I found some info on another website that indicated that having an outdated version of USBOverdrive can cause problems like this. I checked and sure enough I had that installed (I think my son did it and didn't tell anybody - not unusual...). I downloaded the newest version of USBOverdrive and the keyboard problem went away.

  • Eject key not operating USB DVD drive

    Hi guys
I have a 2012 Mac Mini running Mountain Lion and I'm using an official Apple bluetooth keyboard. I just bought a Samsung USB DVD drive and it ejects using the icon on the menu bar just fine. However the eject key on my keyboard is 100% unresponsive. Any thoughts? Is there an option I need to select? Before anyone suggests it, yes, I've tryed holding it down for a few seconds
Any help would be amazing. My OCD is kicking in and its driving me mad!!!
    Thanks guys

  • Remap volume and eject keys on aluminum keyboard?

Is there a way to remap the volume, mute and eject keys on the Apple
    (wired) aluminum keyboard?
I'd rather have them above the keypad if that's possible - like they
    were on previous Apple keyboards.

  • Fn Keys and Eject Keys Don't Work in Windows

I'm fairly good to go with Snow Leopard and Boot Camp and on installing Windows on my wife's 13" MacBook Pro that I finally convinced her to get, I had a "hard drive not big enough" during the SP3 update BUT found a solution for that, however, all the threads I read on the above topic related to Boot Camp versions of the 2.x genre and I have 3.x genre. So, does anyone have any ideas how to fix this on the Windows side?
    - All function keys (excepted F3) are non-functional.
    - Eject key does not work
    - No right click of any kind other than with a mouse
    - No scroll features
    - No Boot Camp icon in the tray
Lastly (and just an add in) on the OSX side, her Mac HD icon was not there since the Boot Camp assistant was launched AND dummy me (I did this once before - I know idiot) tried to drag it from Finder to the desk top and exploded it. So, how do I get the Mac HDD and icon back in both Finder AND the Desktop.
Thanks in advance for those who have an offering.

Actually I didn't trash Boot Camp, it never populated in the tray after the install. Moreover, the thing i destroyed was the MacHDD from the desktop and from the Go Finder listing and want to get that puppy back
Boot Camp is running just that the F keys other than F3 are not functional nor is the Eject key . . PLUS . . as I say there is no tap to click, not two finger scrolling, and no 3 or 4 finger functions operational features.
    Please help!

  • Volume and Eject Keys No Longer Work After Boot Camp 2.1 Update

Earlier this evening I allowed the Apple Software Update app in Windows to update Boot Camp to version 2.1. I allowed the computer to restart following a successful installation of the update. I've restarted two more times since then. Ever since the update (including before the computer restarted for the first time following the update), the volume and eject keys on my keyboard don't work. I also have an Apple Wireless Keyboard (one of the 2003-2007 era white/clear ones) and it exhibits the same problem. Both keyboards otherwise work fine. The computer also otherwise works fine, and there's no evidence of any driver problems.
    Some other potentially relevant information:
1- The Boot Camp icon is no longer present in the Windows System Tray.
2- The Boot Camp Control Panel is still present in the Windows Control Panel and it works fine.
3- All settings in the Boot Camp Control panel are unchanged from their defaults. In particular, I have confirmed that "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is still unchecked.
4- The Windows Device Manager properly recognizes both keyboards as Apple Keyboards.
I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate on an early 2008 MacBook; system specs are in my signature. Any ideas?
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and double-thanks if you can respond with any suggestions!

Ah, the joy of working with computers...:( Apparently, from my woes with the same problem, the Apple Keyboard Manager is rightfully entered into the Run directory in the Windows registry at HKLM/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run.
Why it doesn't start I still have to find out, but this may be because I have Parallels Workstatio installed as well and switch back between a virtualized Windows and a Bootcamp Windows. However, after installing Bootcamp 2.1 first and then SP3 IN THE BOOTCAMP ENVIRONMENT everything seems to work, except the Energy Options taskbar icon and Apple Keyboard Manager.
Will keep you posted on any progress I make.
Apple Support, BTW, was absolutely abysmal, with them even refusing to accept the ticket at all, on the grounds that they have no knowledge about Windows. Apple, get your support fixed!

  • Eject Key makes my MBP Logout and Restart

When I press the Eject Key (uppermost right corner key above Delete and to right of F12), my laptop Logs out and restarts. No warning, no options. A white Eject image (up pointing triangle sitting on a bar) ghosts on the screen for a moment, then the screen goes to blue (all open files are lost of course) and then the deskstop rebuilds itself as in a restart.
I'm dumbfounded. I thought maybe this was a new keyboard feature that I could change with a choice via System Prefs. Not a malfunction.
But I couldn't find it listed anywhere under Keyboard Shortcuts, and I don't see anyone else complaining about this key behavior on the web.
Has anyone had this experience or know what's going on? I changed my keyboard (old one got splashed by water spill and keys would type groups of characters), but the new keyboard behaves the same way.
Can anyone suggest how I might fix this so the Eject Key does not basically reboot my computer? The Eject Key, by the way, does not eject any disk that may be in the slot.

If the new keyboard is acting the same way as the old regarding the eject key, it appears a hardware issue. Take your computer to an Apple Store.

  • Volume and eject keys are not working!

Hello, i have a problem with my USB apple keyboard that come in pack with my iMac. When i turn on the computer everything is working fine but after using it for about 10 minutes my volume and eject keys stop working at all. What can you say about that? And when i disconnect and connect the keyboard from the computer it starts working again but not for a long time thought.

    Hello Folks,
Got my super new 20" duo and i a having exactly the same problems. Volume keys don't work randomly, mouse stops responding and eject works most of the time but I have had problems.
Tried different usb port getting the same.
Will try another k'board and see if that makes a difference.
I have seen another post else where and the chap got a replacement from apple. His mouse wouldn't function sparadically.
